Great video Ariel thank you for sharing your adventures. I'm now 83 years old and my greatest accomplishment at age 30 was to fly my single engined Cessna 182 from Dar Es salaam Tanzania to Biggin Hill UK and all the way back. It was a thrilling adventure as well. I've done a lot of coastal sailing here in my new home and country. British Columbia Canada and now sail with you on TH-cam
Full agree! What a beautiful video. Love it. Erik: Thank you so much for having us part on your adventure and the brilliant presentation! Fair seas all the time! :)
I found your channel as i love boats but it was always ski boats and stuff i had. Your videos are so inspiring i would love to buy a sail boat but i dont know anything about them. I live in northwest ireland and we have some lovely places here i would love to sail around. The wife asked me if i would sail in stormy seas i said i would do it with someone like yourself who knew what they were doing. Anyway thanks and i cant wait for your next adventure.
Hey Eric! My name is Ryan Beatty, I’m 46 and I live in Baton Rouge Louisiana in the USA. I have never sailed or even been on a sail boat. I just wanted to thank you for editing and uploading your amazing videos. I can’t stop watching your videos!! Its really neat to be able to see a glimpse of what you actually do! I doubt our paths will ever cross but I sure hope I do one day so I can buy you a bunch of beers lol Thank you again for al the footage! -Ryan
Great sailing and filmmaking. You are a natural at both. Camera work, editing, choice of music - everything top notch. Best sailing films on TH-cam. Look forward to your next epic voyage. Are you a filmmaker by profession? You should be.
Agreed..... some spectacular shots and editing in there Erik..... glad you had a smoother trip back than the trip out. Though I would highly recommend packing higher quality cat food next trip...:)
Reminds me when my granddaughter when she was just 2 years old, she would eat the cats food from his dish, I would correct her not to do that but she would always say it's good grandpa, her first day of school is to today and I will miss her antics greatly.
You've done a very professional job documenting your voyage. Beautiful. It's inspiring to see what one man fueled by sea air, canned meat and a thirst for good breeze can realize.
Bloody brilliant Eric! You must of spent a lifetime in post production! This has got to be the best short sailing film currently out in cyberspace. If you give up saving lives at sea this work is a natural to you. Bloodly brilliant. ....... did I say that ? ! !
I don't really have anything to say other than you are an awesome person who personifies both strength, tenacity and humility. Those are lovely traits in a human being. The world needs more people like you, Erik. Keep on keeping on, buddy.
I love this "no bullshit just sailing"...I follow the well known sailing channels but I grow tired of their common ploys and antics, it's great to just watch someone sail and talk about the process. Refreshing. More please.
I have watched so many sailing videos with arial shots. By far and away your drone video is heads above the rest. I really should not say video, you are on par with many cinematographers - think the arial sequences in Master and Commander. I had to go back and re-watch. With Mo While Mear playing it was truly epic ... goose bumps from a TH-cam vid, who would have thought. Outstanding and that's no BSJS !!! Thank you for a great experience.
Prime example that you have to endure some hardship to earn the reward. It's not always sunny and easy. True sailing is a reflection of life. Fair winds!
Hey Eric, huge kudos fantastic vid, very inspiring. I'm in NZ at present and round here there are more than a few reports of single handers towards the end of a passage being tired and falling asleep and running agrond at there destination. I've fitted a a WHA WHA WHA alarm that I can switch on to my plotter waypoint alarm. Man when it goes off I wake up, I'm standing straight on the cabin floor going what the fecks that. It really works. Wishing you great sailing Eric. Thanks for your videos.
Your journeys are amazing! I've watched every single video from your first one to this and I've seen how your filming and editing skills has improved A LOT over time. I am amazed and fully appreciate how you take all the details from different angles and how you play with this in editing. I am aware of how much work it involves, especially in post, and how much care you give to all the details. You are doing a GREAT JOB on the sea and on the computer as well, and I enjoy every second of each of your videos. My question is if there will be something else to watch and enjoy so much after I finish seeing all of them. LE: Oh, I forgot to mention. The drone scenes, with your boat especially, are out of this world! LE2: THANK YOU!
Eric, I have to say, as a yachtsman, I follow many people, couples, on you tube and find it great to support them on their voyages, but I have to say your video footage, and the quality of your shots is outstanding ..... great work my mate ... keep the passion...Neil.
the language, cigs, canned food keep it honest and real. I have only read about these kinds of guys. Like sailing around the lower 40 latitude, around the world. Very amazing, thank you
I grew up in the mountains and have always wanted to Master sailing to this level. That particular sea is so dangerous and just so damn beautiful. What an honor to be able to take a peak into your lot in life, the earth is amazing and what I wouldn't give to come see that part of her. Screw comfort. Thank you for all the effort that went into these videos!
I'd go so far as to say that was an immense privilege seeing this film. a fantastic way of spending a Sunday morning breakfast. thanks Erik. deeply appreciated.
I rarely comment on TH-cam videos, but I have to say that Erik's sailing videos are in a class equal to documentary film making. Great job, and hello from Texas, USA!
WOW....loved it ...fantastic cinematography....can't believe that one man does all this while sailing alone....this is like watching a movie on the big screen...love the music too...thanks for taking us Landblubbers sailing......Inspiring stuff.
Bravo...just bravo. Great everything brother. I'm 42 yo, recently started learning to sail and you're "film" is the most inspirational (in-spirit) on sailing I've seen so far. Thank you man.
hey Erik. Awesome video. no beaches, no bikinis, no big budget sponsors boat and best of all.....NO BULLSHIT!! Please stop eating that crap cold and at least a pot noodle is hot! So true about the love/hate the time at sea but I can never wait to get back out there alone within a day of getting home. Keep doing what you do and letting us share through your great photography. Thanks. Nick
Erik, glad you got your boat back! You help keep me going. I have to say you got to go with a below deck auto pilot. Trust me you need it. Stay safe I wouldn't mind seeing jack lines and you clipped in as well. See you next time!
While I am waiting to get my boat back in the water for the new season in the NE of the US, your videos are truly inspiring and pure pleasure to watch. I can fully understand when you say that 5-6 minutes on land and you want to be back out there again! I've been feeling this way ever since my boat went on the hard for the winter months. Keep up all the awesome videos ... pure perfection, in my eyes! I LOVE NBJS!! While so many other sailing channels spend a lot of time on their on-shore adventures, you have held true to your sailing with breath taking videos and drone shots. Your seamless transitions from one to the next is stunning! Kudos my friend! I look so forward to what you put out in the future!
Another great film. As has been said, yours are amongst the best short sailing films on YT. They keep your attention from start to finish. I really enjoy the comic edge you give to your comments too. Keep sailing and stay safe.
I just found your site today. As a sailor for over 50 years, I've enjoyed riding with you as I catch up on your videos. Very entertaining. Beautiful cinematic touches as well, nicely done. I like it.... No bullshit, just sailing!
Finally, someone like you is filming their journeys. Your production quality is quite high as well. Until I found your channel all I saw was New Age type sailing. Now I can watch, no BS, just a man sailing some rough water. Thank you.
Beautiful cinematography Erik... great sound track. Well produced overall. Great job! I sail on the San Francisco Bay. Hope to one day sail the North Sea...
As if you're videos weren't fascinating enough, what a pleasant surprise to find an Irish language song in the middle of this one! Warm greetings from Ireland :)
Like others have said before, best sailing channel on TH-cam. We just bought our first sailboat after 20 years of dreaming. Love your adventures. The North Sea reminds me of my home in Newfoundland. Cold, windy, rough and rugged. Nice change from the sunshine sailors down south.
Outstanding video. Loved it. I have a down haul attached to each of my mainsail reefing points up the mast. A friend of mine called them 'Down f**kers'! The idea is you can pull the mainsail down super quick without using your hands on the sail itself. Works very well. Take care, safe sailing.
Hello Erik , I am blown away by this movie. Your pictures are breathtaking and your postproduction is so professional. These two movies are so much different to what is usually available on you tube. I am only a good weather sailor, but now I’m dreaming of such a journey. Now I hope to see more of you. Michael
Absolutely outstanding! The no bullshit and "cat food" for dinner is perfect. The drone footage and music are spot on and illicit the inspirational effect brilliantly! Can't wait to see your next sail.
Erik, the sailing, the landscapes and finally the video, everything is AMAZING ! Thank you for sharing in a such beautiful way, you give us great feelings...! Hope to see you on-board again soon .
You deserve more subscribers!!! Excellent work Eric. I have added you onto our Channel Homepage (Distant Shores) as a recommended channel. I very much appreciate your hard work and style on your videos. After years of avoiding drones we recently added a Phantom 4 to our stable of cameras mainly after admiring your drone work and catching it while underway!
I have been enjoying your sailing videos for some time now. It makes me imagine how my Scandinavian forefathers must have seen things in that beautiful part of the world.
Erik, as a sailor myself, of a Catalina 30 I appreciate the skill you have and the balls you have to do what you do. When I sail solo I have a major adrenaline rush so much so I am really nervous and second guess myself. Your camera work is getting to be outstanding! Nice work and keep it up.
Ravioli straight from the tin...perfect sailing food! And then the 89p meatballs. Exquisite! For me, corned beef and baked beans from the tin also hits the spot. Brilliant videos, Erik
Thanks so much for that Erik. Excellent production. I really enjoy the educational bits like when, why and how you raise and lower your sails etc. More of that please. It may be obvious to some, but for the majority of viewers who have never done any extreme sailing, its enlightening. Keep 'em coming mate.
Hi Erik, you are true humble inspiration Sailor. Like your principle : no palm trees, no pinacoladas, no sandy beachs :-) Just me and my boat :-) Really amazing your sailing and adventure spirit. Many thanks for sharing and I really everyday went to see your channel when you could come back to finish your voyage. Big Hug, Paul
Just watched parts 1 & 2 - man, you are bold and inspiring! The life we live is short and frail, we have to try and live it to the fullest. You are doing exactly that!!! Thanks for sharing!! - Luis from Texas
I recently purchased my own boat. SS22 and like sailing it here in Perth, Western Australia. I have watched so many sailing videos on youtube over the last 8 years, including Sv Delos etc. And your videos are so raw and pure I love it. Legitimate Viking esque. Make more mate. Good drone videos and great music to go with it. This one in particular "Long Way Back" has it all. Great video.
I lucked out and randomly came across this video. Very nice balance of fun to watch sailing, overhead drone views and interspersed with interesting commentary. While sailing with someone you enjoy can be wonderful, safely completed single-handed trips feed ones soul with confidence and pride. Thank you for this enjoyable video Erik....
Thanks Erik ! Your video is always a true escape. Watching you sailing makes me traveling thousands kilometers away. So refreshing ! Flying with your drone around your sails is a real impression of freedom. Keep on sailing, no bullshit !
Your videos really are top-notch! With all of the gadgets and technology, though, it is hard to imagine that you don't have a whisker pole on board to pole out the headsail (which would keep it powered up and eliminate the rig slamming when it empties and fills again). Please do keep up the great work. We never get conditions like this on the Chesapeake, but I'm hoping to be ocean-bound soon! You are inspiring and your videos are riveting!
Man the end of this episode brought tears into my eyes. This is some supreme video making and music choices! Can't wait for the next episode. Also warm up your food man ha ha
NBJS: exactly what it says on the tin. Enjoyed the P1 and P2 of this series very much. The photography was top notch, especially liked the drone footage and the music choice too. Everything I like about YT was in these vids, thank you , Erik. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks for showing us your courage of sailing in rough weather and for sharing beautiful videos of the islands that most people will never see in person. Your story telling is wonderful
The simplicity of your sailing is what makes the videos work for me. It isn't about elaborating equipment and so on. Like the old photographer reporter told the kid when he asked what equipment and setting works best to get the picture. "F8 and be there, the rest don't count if you aren't around to point the thing". Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Fabulous again Erik!! Great footage and absolutely loved the wee bit of Mo Gile Mear thrown in there too 💕 Fair winds for the season ahead and looking forward to seeing the next adventure!
Just watched both North Sea passages, Sent chills down my back just watching it. Love it, quality of your production is brilliant, don't know if I'd ever dare in my Folkboat. you're an inspiration, Thank you.
Great to see a nice safe and proper trip home. Was impressive following you north and I'm glad all went well. Appreciate your taking the time to put this all together! I bid you fair winds and following seas my friend!
Thank you for your great effort. You have created a true idea of what it is to go to sea. From an old navy man. Please put a bilge pump in. 100 gal. water = 1000 pounds of unsecured weight. Cheers
Erik, please do not close any circles. I have followed your documentaries and you are just getting better! Dont know how you manage all this on your own! Would strongly advise you to continue so no closing circles. Just keep doing what you are doing. Also great scenery of viking spirit and landscapes. Just love it! NBJS
Addicted to your videos. Find myself laughing out loud at some of the lines. "F*ck that, took me three minutes"... Absolute gold. Plus you've done a brilliant job with cinematography. The videos capture the raw beauty of our lands up north very well. Fair winds and thanks for making these videos!
The introduction of the meatballs in gravy, LMAO. Love your sailing videos. I’ve been sailing for 7 years in and around Boston Harbor but am looking to go on greater adventures. Your videos are indeed an inspiration. Stay safe out there.
Awesome Erik, keep doing what you are doing, being true to yourself is the best thing you can do in this world, thank you for sharing your dream with us all, looking forward to your next adventure!
Great stuff! All who enjoyed may also be interested in the voyages of Frank Dye, who crossed from Scotland in 2 voyages, to Iceland, and also to Norway, in an unballasted open boat. The tale is told in the book "Ocean Crossing Wayfarer", by Frank and Margaret Dye.
Thanks, your video brings back why I love sailing. The beauty of the the North Sea is indeed inspiring. You do excellent work with the camera, camera drone, and accompanying music. One comment: it doesn't look like you use a jackline, but you should, esp since you're sailing solo.
Hi Eric, it's Scotty from Halifax once again, must say I believe you missed your calling my friend, your videos are by far the most professional, educational and entertaining I've seen in the last few years that I've been following sailing blogs on youtube. Being a retired military engineer and fortunate to own a 1984 Canadian Sailcraft 36.6 T, much is similar with Tessa. you keep me inspired to continue to push my sailing boundaries so please keep your videos coming and if you find yourself ever across the pond I'll be honored to buy you a beer. Scott from Halifax NS.
Nice style. Impressive drone skills. Great camera work and you give the viewer a chance to appreciate the expanse of the sea and the beauty of the boat trim and slicing along at a good clip.
This was long awaited and certianly well worth it. I kept checking back in to see the return voyage. Those were awesome drone shots joined with some great music. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this, and also for fueling the inspiration to sail.
Love the honest look at making a passage and your love for sailing. Drone footage your got is amazing and adds so much to an already very inspiring video.
Crossing the North Sea singlehanded is an achievement you should be proud of. And making a wonderful video on top of it is a very good job well done! Looking forward to more adventures from you onboard your yacht! Thanks!
A most fine vessel you have, sir, and professional camera work for us to experience your voyages with! Top notch, grade A. You had me sold at the cat food remark! Hahaha! Well done, sir! Can't wait to see where you sail next.
Been waiting for this and it did not disappoint -- superb! The Orkney tourist board should pay you for your artful and professional drone photography. Takk for innsatsen.
Thank you for filming, editing and sharing. Love your vids! 30 kn of W is not faster in the North Sea as in the carribean or transatlantic. You have the cold, trade winds brings squalls, day & night! Every place and climate bring its own challenge! Bon vent, belle Mer!
Well done mate... you are a true Viking!! Should catch up for some serious sailing stories and lots of beer!!! Well done. Keep doing what you are doing!!!
This isn't a silly little sailing blog, this is Cinema!!
Great work, and congrats on becoming the best sailing channel on TH-cam.
Cheers
Raw sailing videos don't get much better than this, with epic drone shots.... And, I have to say your editing skills are awesome 🎬🎥✔️
Thr drone is so cool I would love to see him land that sucker on the boat with all that rigging and moving sailboat.
Full agree! What a beautiful video. Love it. Erik: Thank you so much for having us part on your adventure and the brilliant presentation! Fair seas all the time! :)

That Mr wheatley is an understatement..
@@Darkwell0071 he does… Eric does things that scare most Yachty’s to death..
You inspire me, Erik. Youre "get comfortable being uncomfortable" motto is close to my heart. So glad I found your channel.
Drone filming Tessie underway with both sails makes my heart sing! Such a proper and fit looking lady, at home in the deep blue.
You are one of the very few who concentrate on sailing and no verbal garbage, thankyou Eric

Great sailing and filmmaking. You are a natural at both. Camera work, editing, choice of music - everything top notch. Best sailing films on TH-cam. Look forward to your next epic voyage. Are you a filmmaker by profession? You should be.
You will be professional if you keep this up. Love it
Couldnt agree more, absolutely phenomenal
Yeh, he is good. Very rich content.

tastes like cat food... not bad... best line in the whole thing...
drone footage is great..
How does Erik know how the cat food tastes ???
Все пробовали кошачий корм с пивом))

You survived for 3 months, don't let the "6 minute" rule get you down. Magnificent video and such an eye for the best angles.
Very inspiring. Erik is living life, not wasting it away. Work to live don't live to work.
Nice to see a sailing blogger that actually makes videos that are about and show sailing. Best on TH-cam!

Awesome matey your passion for the big blue is unreal.. true Viking warrior.
You are a true legend mate👍INSPIRATIONAL just doesn’t seem a big enough word for what you bring through your videos⛵️
Some of the best and courageous drone shooting on youtube! I can really feel the magnitude of big wave blue water sailing.
Keep your good work coming!
NBJS
I loved it when you "blew" us up into the air to look at the sea from above.
The views and the way you catch it are simply incredible
Fair winds, Im so glad its still Vikings out there. Keep on sailing.
Cool! Thank you Very Much for sharing, Erik! Epic Video, Cool party, landscapes and aerial views!
Thank you Erik. So inspiring to take on new and difficult challenges.
Well, Very well done, and I can really understand the love hate of solo sailing. Once again. Well done Erik, Cheers...
Awesome Erik, keep doing what you are doing, being true to yourself is the best thing you can do in this world, thank you for sharing your dream with us all, looking forward to your next adventure!
Great stuff!

Thanks, your video brings back why I love sailing. The beauty of the the North Sea is indeed inspiring. You do excellent work with the camera, camera drone, and accompanying music. One comment: it doesn't look like you use a jackline, but you should, esp since you're sailing solo.
Excellent sail trim, Eric. She looks right and the tell-tails never lie :)
Thanks for letting us be a part of your journeys Erik. Absolutely brilliant to watch.
Haha ready for next one!!! Kör hårt gubben - längtar till att se nästa. ;)
Fray Bentos...... that's Dog food Erik...ja? Thanks for sharing...awesome sailing and awesome flying!! Fair winds my Viking brother !
