I had this exact same mower in the late 70’s, my neighbor gave it to me. I rebuilt the original engine and used it for a good long while until the deck cracked. Loved it! Mine had the original B&S engine from ‘59 or ‘60 with the oil bath air cleaner and the 4 ball starter clutch. Cooper made such great mowers, loved the Cyclo-Mo. I also had a Cooper Klipper reel type mower that I didn’t like much, it cut the grass way too short and if the wheel hit an obstruction in the yard the mower would do an immediate 180 degree turn and come at you. I’d probably spin that engine right way ‘round, the puller handle should be up in the handle. Cooper and HOMKO were among the first to do that BITD.
Wow, this brings back memories! Loved working on those old engines! They don't make them that good anymore! Thanks for sharing! Great job! Blessings to you and your family
Wish I could find one of these this is a cool looking mower and it’s right in my era of collecting early 60s in prior it would be another one that would be added to the collection and possibly restored at some point cosmetically. Trying to get at least two back up push mowers. And a riding lawnmower from the 50s 60s and currently I have a 1960s 127 cub cadet that I’m restoring cosmetically and mechanically.
@@SecondWindMechanical I have a few of these Sprint engines. I will not sell or get rid of them. I put them on the good decks when the new engines take a dump.
That automatic choke setup shows me that is not the original engine, as that design first entered production in 1968. The previous design used a manually operated choke.
I loved this video. I do hope you checked it had oil before you spun the engine over to check for spark. I love older briggs engines. they are built better in my opinion
Oh nice. I used to have an old Ryan Ren-o-thin dethatcher that had an old Clinton 494 on it. Smoked like a diesel and was pretty loud but ran great. I got rid of it when I did a major cleanup in my shop. I could kick myself for getting rid of it now. Would have made for some nice TH-cam content
@@SecondWindMechanical I'M old when I was in my early teens my dad bought a used rider with a 7hp B+S it was a good mower the only 1 in the community with a copper colored motor

I've been a small engine mechanic now for years, I've worked on thousands of different machine and you never need a puller for push mowers and ride ons you just need a pry bar and a hammer
@@quadvloggs6876 I've only actually needed to put a real flywheel puller on a couple of them. One had a sheared key and was all screwed up, the other my 12 HP briggs off my rider, that one took over 2 hours to get off it was extremely stuck for some reason.

That’s a really cool old mower great to see it up and running
Thanks
Love to see those vintage mowers come back to life, sounds good too.
Thanks I have never seen one like this, so I decided to post a video of it.
Cool channel, great seeing old equipment given a new life

@Ellenslife851 I'm looking for a 1960's Swisher zero turn because they have Tecumseh engines with windup starters.
@@SecondWindMechanical that’s cool I’ll keep my eyes out
All American made and still putting in work decades after it left the factory. As the old saying goes,
"They Don't Make Them Like They Used To"
All the mowers now are throw away. You're lucky to get one summer out of it.
Built to last.
Not like these new mowers that are built to throw away.

Thats one sweet mower

didn't knew that this type of carb built in tank was existing from so many years !😮
@martindesmarais7158 it's a simple design
Pulsa get carburetor

@@leehuff2330 In the description I note that the engine was replaced.
That looks like a newer engine than 1962... Looks like a model 92902. Great engine nonetheless
It is I didn't put that in the description the engine is from 1975.
What makes it rare is the grass shoot in front I have the same mower to the day I put a 6.5 horse power on it you can chop small stumps with it
That's aggressive
I remember those.
Were they any good back then?
Did this engine originally have the off / on switch on top of shroud?
No there was a sticker over the hole from the factory.
Sweet Chopper
@@BrianAdriance Thanks
Looks a lot like a Lawn-Boy deck
That's what I said when I first saw it. But it's pretty common designed for the time.
Very nice
Thanks
I'd much rather have/ use an old lawn mower than the garbage they sell now days. Built way better, lasted a very long time.

Nicely done! Is that a self propelled mower? Hope it still works ok. Very professionally done! Enjoyed watching!😅
Yes it is! The self-propelled works great.
for something this OLD it cuts the grass even and CLEAN.

Nice mower but may I suggest for future videos a little narration. Those old flathead Briggs engines were tried and true.
I will have to work in it. The next video is going to be an old Clinton mower.

At one time B & S replacement engines were copper colored.
The engine on the mower is a replacement from the 70's. It's still a strong running engine though.
