- I'm converting an affordable HSS Strat style guitar into the Deluze Orphean, Johnny Silverhand's iconic guitar from Cyberpunk 2077.
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Contains graphic content - viewer discretion is advised ;-)
Maybe not a contestant for the #diykitchallenge but a great learning experience nonetheless!

Watching this led me down a rabbit hole which eventually had me picking my guitar up for the first time in almost a decade and learned the song playing in this video, oh and this build is marvelous work
That sounds perfect, thanks a lot for the feedback! 👍It means the world to me
Thats dope you should.also learn chipin in played by the same people
I can honestly relate. The music from Cyberpunk 2077 actually inspired me to play music again after 13 years. Bought a new guitar and amp. I've been playing steady for 2 months now. I've actually learned Never Fade Away from the game And I'm currently practicing Like A Supreme.
All this with the hopes that I can play better than I used to so I can play Kerry's Song.
In case you're curious this song is called Archangel and it just got released on Spotify and other services recently. Completed with lyricss and stuff.
@@asdev369 yo same, just got a drumkit after playing it, still gotta set it up tho
I just realize Johnny’s guitar’s in-lays are nukes! That’s so fucking badass!
I thought they were fish for so long lol
they are fish, just believe in it@@grrwoofarfbark3331
“You don’t say”
The song on loop started to drive me insane
My game got stuck looping it post mission when I had to choose to let the voodoo boys keep fucking with me or burn them all. I chose to burn them.
Johnny Silverhand does not conform.
it drives you insane cause he looped it early, basically cutting the lick in half
the angled bridge is by far the coolest thing and I wanna apply a trem to it
The angled part is merely a string guide, the bridge is hidden under the hand guard. I agree, a trem would be cool though!
@@simonmakes A "silverbridge" ?
@@simonmakes I can barely string my own guitar let alone this!
If you haven't already decided to do this, probably make your own string guide with rolling pins. Some of (in my personal opinion) the best bridges and string guides have roller pins for angles far less intense than this and it ends up being really good for the bridge/guide and strings.
Don't
If johnny saw this he'd probably say something like
"Still ain't my guitar, but i dig it."
You did an amazing job, you didn't ruin the guitar and make it into a prop but actually made the real thing.
Feels like the palm muting would be difficult at first but probably could adapt no problem. This looks identical in every way. I didn’t know what you were gonna do with the angled bridge but you nailed it.
The attention to detail is astounding. Badass guitar. Subscribed.
Thank you so much! There are several builds out there, I tried to be as accurate as possible.
I think you should make some of these and sell them, I'd definitely buy one.
Edit: NVM, I'm unemployed and broke now, can't afford it
I second that.
I third that.
I fourth that.
I fifth that.
I sixth that.
Man I would kill for that guitar
i know right, someone needs to mass produce that body style of guitar.
Me too
I remember someone on etsy made them but i think he hasn't restocked
So real
k but would you execute a corpo rat on stage?
ok so ive been thinking about the logistics of this build because i wanna do something similar and i kept getting stuck on the pickups. i couldn't figure out where the hell you got square covers for strat pickups..... an then i spottet the filtertron covers and p90 covers and i had to watch through the whole video again, and i realized what you did. your a fucking mad man, and i love it
Haha, Thanks! Just realized that the P90 covers are still on the table at the end of the build - their size is not even close.
Maybe some explanatory words for the back of the class:
What sofie brandt figured out is that I machined and cut those filtertron humbucker covers to size in order to make them fit the single coil pickups. What makes this even sketchier is the fact that I did not know what material they were made of when I ordered them. The descriptions all say "nickel" - but nickel what? Cardboard? Pig iron? Luckily it turned out to be brass so I could solder them back together instead of having to rely on super glue alone.
Arch-Angel is such an amazing riff. I never get tired of hearing it

RIOTS
I know this is a year old, but if you made a few of these to sell I'd 100% buy one
Sweet looking guitar! 🔥
Haven't played the game, but seeing this makes me a bit more interested to try it out. As if I had time to indulge myself like that... 😅
Thank you mate!
I think the game is certainly worth looking into - but finding time is a problem, I get that. 😉
That 11 Marker on the Volume had me!
Great work and nice Details for your Video!
Greetings from GER
Thanks for linking the parts you used !!!
I don't play or know how to play but i wouldn't mind making this Guitar, i love Cyberpunk so much :D
I absolutely love what you have done!!! Cheers.
Love your cosplay! I'll get back to you.
This is pretty cool but it seems like the video skips some pretty important steps around the angled bridge construction. Would've liked to see more of that.
Agreed!
Could you share the measurements for the shape of the bottom? I want to make my own but I have no idea about doing the bottom. Also where did you get the stickers from?
there is an invention called "the printer". don't tell anyone tho, it's a secret.
@@Nuke_Skywalker okay, he still has to know where clean pngs of the designs can be found. Being a condescending dick can only get you so far in life
Amazing build! I come back to this video every once in a while just to watch the craft! Was curious if you’d ever make another for someone who’s willing to buy or if this is just a one-off? Regardless I love all your stuff! ❤
this is easily the sickest guitar ive seen in awhile
That's sick as hell, good work dude!
Wow
There's a difference between a guitar builder and a guitar player
also there are guitar MASTERS, they can do everything
It was recently announced that they're going to make a live-action CP movie. You should contact the producers to see if they want to use this in the project.
Fr even if it only ends up a subtle thing for game fans like it’s in a display somewhere, this would be so fuckin cool
WHERE AND WHEN WAS THIS ANNOUNCED
Well there are DIY projects, and there is this. Amazing instrument. Those inlays are a work of art!
Thinking of doing a similar guitar as this but with my own actual use in mind. This a super cool little project, well done!
I love how the Strings go around the corner!
For no apparent reason other than style! 😁
THIS IS AMAZING. I need one so bad
Same 😅 !
The design decision to put that metal cover over the bridge must have been made by someone who has never picked up a guitar before, as it renders palm muting impossible. Also the tuning stability must be amazing...
Both statements are correct! 😉
Would make no sense for the kind of music played with the guitar, but it's worth noting there have been guitars made with bridge covers before, mainly from Fender (see the original Telecasters, 70s Strats, and Mustangs)
Johnny Silverhand has a metal arm. So the wear on that side of the guitar, and the bridge cover, kinda make sense in universe.
@@aamry His metal arm is the left one, his right hand is organic
@@saxwastaken Oh, you're correct, nothing makes sense anymore.
That's really cool man! It looks identical. Congrats!
Your doing the lords work Sir.. respect!.
As much as I can - Thank you so much!
never expected a letterkenny reference watching this great job on the guitar as well!
Simply awesome! Really wish i had the tools and skills to do this
Incredible craftsmanship! loved the video
Love this so much! Well done! Only question is where did u find that stainless steel selector switch? All I can find are the knob caps but I love how that little bar looks
Thank you so much!
I turned it on the lathe, could not find it anywhere.
Yeah I was a bit skeptical about the bridge. Amazing job man!.
I would want one myself
Sweet build! Makes me wanna do something custom with my own
If I ever had one of these commissioned, idk if I'd ever be able to bring myself to play it or keep it as a beautiful art piece.
"Tonight's the night that we won!" That's awesome. Would love to have it in my collection.
Wow awesome work and super detailed
freakin' awesome work man!!
this is an awesome build makes me wish i had this and i'd actually get me to learn guitar to play like johnny honestly i'd have this hung up on my wall by my desk with my edge runners led light so i could also admire it while playing cyberpunk this is metal af dude
Hey, thank you so much!
In fact, I have it on the wall by my desk. 👍
Supreme guitar, choom. If I evet had a chance to pick a replica up I'D HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE!
Thank you algorithm for showing me this. That looks amazing.
Btw, the official replica guitar also have a strap with Chinese words, "老马" which is Old Horse, most likely from the proverb "老马识途" The Old Horses Knows The Way.".
Now it just needs Johnny Silverhands signature and that thing is selling for whatever you ask.
Awesome work man!!!
Awesome work. Wow
I made one to thanks to you, didn't have all the great tooling but it turned out really nice thanks for the video
That's so cool! I'd love to see it!
@@simonmakes th-cam.com/video/60N3r9G0SME/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d08IRu3W-ux75QfA
It looks absolutely stunning! Would love to play something like that. I'd shorten the guard plate as much as possible though, seems like it would make palm muting really difficult.
Looks nice, but I think it lacks the top lock and your build motivates me to replay the Cyberpunk 2077
Thank you!
I followed this build, which has no top lock: guitarservice.pl/gitaracyberpunk2077/
But it was part of the original design, good catch! 👍
Nice work on the guitar looks badass wish I had Johnny sliverhands guitar I bet it looks great on the wall
Such an awesome video and turnout! Subscribed!
WoW , awesome man !
This is really cool, very well done
always wondered about the functionality of the metal part at the bridge. Does it make palm-muting difficult? Just seen this video is a year old, have you still got the guitar kicking about?
Ashtray isn't a new thing, there's an argument about raising the magnetic force of the pickups and protecting from dust, but for this to work it should be above the pickups, not the bridge. You'll usually pick closer to the neck because of that and this is by far the "reason" why the tone changes TBH. And yea, makes palm mutes next to impossible.
In the case of this guitar, it's just an stupid visual choice (probably made of silver) that would only make adjustments to the action and intonation harder to deal with since you would need to remove it everytime you want to adjust something. Plus, it will make palm muting harder unless it's REALLY close to the bridge. Since the height doesn't seem adjustable, you'll need to cut this piece in the exact height for your desired action before installing.
I am so impressed! Very nice pal :)
Thank you! Glad you like it! 😎
Looks incredible, spot on. Just finished my first cyberpunk playthru and I’ve got a couple partscasters that this is motivating me to combine into something inspired by this. where’d you find the little T-handle for the selector switch?
Thanks a lot! Had to make the T-handle on the lathe, couldn't find it anywhere.
dang, yeah I figured it was probably a custom made part. Thanks for the reply!@@simonmakes
Nice work choom!
very well made!! love it.
Ive always wanted to do something like this to a guitar, i was thinking of trying it with a cheap strat style just for practice and rehearsal of such extreme modding
That was my thinking exactly - way to go! 👍
Sorry to bother, but where did you get the string retainer between the bridge and headless tuners? I couldnt seem to find it anywhere.
I made that using the shoulder bolts from the original trem system and a piece of sheet metal.
This is badass! Great job man! 🤘
I don't know if it was intentional, but having that song as the background music. When the game had a bug in the final mission where the same song would play endlessly is funny to me.
It's my hommage to that bug. 😁
I would 100% buy a left handed version of this!!!
damn... this is incredible. I wish I had the talent to make one of these! Would there be any chance of any of these or this going on sale in the future? This was also the first video of yours I watched and you gained a sub. Keep it up!
I want one now. This look amazing!
Watched the whole vedio and at the end saw tha you have only 600 subs, you deserve much more
Very cool, although I was very sad that you didn't include the fitting of all the body hardware. Went from paint to pickups and bridge tuners etc already installed. Which was pretty much the bit I wanted to see in the video
Wow thats incredible
So cool, I definitely gonna buy
but what about the octabation? Does anything change if it is done with a guitar with soul?
what problems with the sound can happen? esthetically, a work of art, congratulations, it inspired me to do my own project of this type.
Well, I would say it improves the looks, not the instrument ;-)
Nice build 😮
is there any way you could provide the measurements for when you cut the wood at the bottom for the angled bridge along with the metal inserts?
Well, as the exact measurements will depend on the shape of the actual body you are using as well as the lenght of the tuners, here's what I did:
The tuners sit at a 45 degree angle in relation to the strings. I placed the whole 'block' so that the tuner for the low E string would not stick out past the bodyline. I drew a line for each string onto the body (from the actual bridge downwards that is), then intersected these lines at the 45 degrees I mentioned above.
The angle plate with the six screws sits exactly in between - at 22.5 degrees.
You really neeed to draw this onto the body to make sure the angles and string distances turn out correctly.
Good to know that in the future guitars are still guitars
I know I'm very late on this but I'm hoping to get a few questions answered if thats alright. I'm in the preliminary stages of building a guitar in a very similar style with a few upgrades for playability. What were the measurements you used for the spacing of the bearings on the string guide and what specific angle is it at? Also do the specific headless guitar tuners hold tune well or no? I'm hoping to do this on a budget but I also don't want it foing out of tune every 5 minutes, I'm thinking reducing the angles in the hard tail bridge with roller saddles can help but I'm hoping to limit the money I spend on the tuner part
@minerock16 The spacing results of me extending the string spacing from the bridge downwards, then intersecting it at a 45 degree angle. I drew this directly onto the guitar. The measurements of the headless tuners will basically dictate where it needs to end up without them sticking out of the 'imaginary' bottom outline of the guitar - hope this makes sense ;-)
I don't have much experience with roller saddles but anything that reduces friction is going to help.
The tuners holding the tune is not going to be your problem. It's all the additional points of friction causing uneven string tension.
So - I appreciate your motivation! I still think it's a cool design - just don't expect it to be a reliable instrument.
@@simonmakesShoot I wasn't expecting you to respond, thank you very much for your info. I'm hoping with the nicer, roller bridge and maybe a roller nut I can reduce sticking points enough that I can have my cake and eat it too. Also I just remembered another question I had for you, did you notice any issues with sustain with the headless bridge hanging off in the cut out like that? I imagine the block of wood it's sitting on mitigates that vs something like a metal L plate, but figured I'd ask just in case.
@@minerock16 No worries - the video just gained some popularity due to Phantom Liberty coming out I guess, so I'm happy to answer any questions people might have.
Sustain.. hmm, no I assume that the biggest influence you'll have on sustain is on both ends of the actual section of string being played, i.e. between the nut and the bridge. To my understanding, that's why installing a brass nut and/or adding mass to the bridge/trem system will help with sustain.
I played with the idea of a metal L plate but a) feared it could flex and b) saw that is was not the way guitarservice.pl did it in their build. So I shaped the cutout in a way that the block benath the tuners was part of it and simply machined it lower based on the space requirement of the tuners.
The most noticeable change in tone (in my mind) was caused by covering the cutout of the trem system on the back of the body. I covered the cavity where the springs are supposed to go with a piece of plywood but it's not filled - so it basically turned into a small resonance cavity opening towards the fixed bridge.
@@simonmakes Copy all, that answers all the questions I have. Thank you very much for your help, I've been looking forward to doing this build for a while now and I've just gotten to a position where I can start sourcing parts so I just wanted to get everything squared away in my head to minimize unexpected variables. You've been a tremendous help and again, very impressed with your work.
Love the build. But I'm new so I was wondering what the point of the 'tuners' at the bottom of the guitar are for? Is it just for finer tuning or does it change the sound at all?
6:13 what did you buy, or how did you make the bar that the strings wrap around past the bridge to change angle?
That's basically a piece of flat steel with holes for six shoulder bolts. The only critical measurement is the spacing of the bolts/strings.
@@simonmakes Thanks! Do you think that that angle would be an issue for bass strings?
@@NewCoffeePlus Hmm, given that they are wound with heavier gauge wire, I could imagine that they'd be even harder to tune. Changing string angle creates friction which leads to uneven string tension.
@@simonmakes Thanks for your input!
That is badass ( i want one )
If Keanu Reeves saw you do this, he would probably be overwhelmingly proud
Hi, I’m working on my own guitar inspired by Silverhand, How did you get the string through the bridge and what pickups did you use?
Hi, the bridge I linked in the description has holes in the back, that's where you feed the strings through. The pickups are the ones that came with the guitar, just nicer covers on them.
just stumbled onto this video whilst looking for cyberpunk guitar covers, amazing job. would love to have a guitar like this to hang on my wall, but all this work is not something for me haha
Where did you get that bar style switch tip for the pick-up selector switch? I want to buy one for my guitar, but I can't find them.
It's custom made on the lathe - I also could not find a source to buy it.
@@simonmakes I was going to ask the same thing. Any chance I could buy one from you?
Now that it’s been awhile, if you were to make another one (maybe not identical, but that same shape) what would you do differently from the first time? I really want to make a cyberpunk styled guitar but the angled bridge seems to me like it’d be a pain or that the strings would break more often?
Well, the strings don't break, luckily. But they detune. Like hell. I'd like a locking nut AND bridge, if such a thing existed ;-)
"Nice axe."
I am looking to do the same cutout/sideways bridge idea for a custom guitar I am making, what piece do you have that is guiding the strings and their bend between the two bridges? Is that custom made? Thanks!
Yes, that's a custom made piece of flat steel and six evenly spaced shoulder bolts to guide the strings.
@@simonmakes Too cool! Thanks for the reply 😀Decided to get a guitar kit online and use my own shape designed in photoshop with similar cutouts as inspiration to make my own cyberpunkish build. Your video was a big inspiration!
Coole neue Akse Simon, saugeil!!!
Iove the spinal tap reference
you 're a legend!
Where did you get the stickers from? I’ve been having a hard time finding sources for them
How did you get the switch tip? because standard switch tips look like butt plugs.
It's been custom made on the lathe.
Can a Whammy bar still work? :0 Or does it not work since the bridge is sortie at an awkward position?
Unfortunately, the bridge is hidden under the hand guard. And it's fixed, no more whammy bar.
@@simonmakes Thanks!! :)) Thinking about making this body on my own with this tutorial, think I can execute the same look if I put the puck guard over the bridge pickup?
@@enalol9127 Due to the angled strings, the tuning stability of this guitar is problematic enough. You need to wiggle the strings to even out the tension. Adding the variability of a tremolo system would make matters a lot worse I'm afraid.
@@simonmakes Thank you so much!! I may just use a digitech whammy pedal, will build tho :))
@@enalol9127 Way to go! 👍
God I wish you had recorded more of it playing
Sure do love this riff...
How much to buy one of these from you? Name your price.
I'm trying to make the deluze orphean as well, but I can't find a good full image of the sticker decals, any chance you still have the sticker files? As well as what you used to mount the strings on the head?
Really beautiful and incredible build, it's my secret dream to be a luthier one day and this is the type of guitar I would love to build! amazing!
Really killer riff in the background too, great choice!
although I gotta say I wish the vid was a lil longer and went into more depth about the pickups and the angled section, what is happening and how cool it all is. it deserves a deep dive! are those paper stickers, where did you find the decals? Idk maybe it's just the format that works!
Hey @simonmakes , I know you made this video a while ago but I hope you see this. I have been looking for the same style of toggle switch knob for one of my builds. Where can I find one? I don’t see the link for it in the description and would love any help since I haven’t been able to track it down by searching for it online and my local shops don’t seem to know either. Thanks!
Hey @davidcruz7231 , I updated the video description - many people are asking for this. I had to make it myself on the lathe because I also couldn't find it online.
Drilling and tapping it on my lathe is ... doable, but it needs to be slotted in order to fit the selector switch. Ideally you'd use a milling machine for this.
So, if you find someone who sells them - please let me know ;-)
@@simonmakes haha you will be the first person I tell. Thanks!
Is this a one off or do you take commissions? Because this is stunning and I must have it!
Not me taking a glance at my own guitar as he cuts the body up on this lol as if i could even do all of this myself xD
