If you want to be good at something you have immerse yourself in it. Live it, feel it walk it, obsess over it and talk it. it feels like “practice” then just move onto something else. It’s never felt like practice to me. I love learning new things about the instrument and amps and gear and “theory”. When I was younger I’d get flustered when learning other people’s songs until I realized why… I hate playing other people’s music. So, I just stopped learning other people’s songs. I just throw on a looper or backing track and jam along.
As usual, glad to be here Greetings and salutations from Massachusetts USA Glad to see you’re still keeping the faith Love to hear you play every time I don’t even know what this is about yet, but I’m super stoked to be one of the first people to be able to comment on this video I’ve been loving your stuff since the very beginning Glad to see you out here You give me hope for a bright and beautiful future Keep up the great work
When I started playing drums at 14 I had some lessons for rudiments etc, which is important to learn the alphabet as they say and then you want to play a groove, get in a band and start doing Giggs. It doesn't matter how you hold the sticks, it's how you feel comfortable, I started out with traditional grip just because that's how I was taught but after a few years I switched to matched grip because I found it more fluid around the kit. I really didn't get in the nuances of tuning, snare wires, cymbals etc until years later. Like Dave said your always learning your instrument, like for me now I have certain cymbals I like, drum head pedals etc, because it all affects the way you play and sound. And mics, that's another difficulty o master but it takes patients nd dedication nd time. But when I was young I didn't care about that stuff I just wanted to play and be cool. So, great advice Dave you're and excellent guitarist and a great guy and I enjoy your band and videos .
Absolutely agree with what u say about learning and teaching institutions. Especially your experiences at music school. How can something that is emotional and creative be pinned down into a regime or strict timings. You can't do that with art.. Or with writing... Its almost the opposite of what anyone needs to do do become more creative and better at their craft.
Because usually you start music when you are 6 to 8 years old, and you need teachers to teach you (and why it’s super rare that someone learns theory past a certain age, because it’s important to start as a child). I don’t know why people think music is different from every other art forms (which are all taught in schools, painting, sculpture, architechture etc…).
love the mic placement tabs on the mesh.......Genius idea used by steve albini also....off axis on axis x and y also makes a huge difference to sound pressure levels on the diaphragm and differing tones...
I agree , With everything you said Dave .. With Guitar playing , I taught myself thru many years & books , I did it on my pace. 25yrs ago I tried a guitar teacher and what a train wreck that was @ $20per 1/2 hr. After I fired that guitar teacher I’d never look back , I recommend teaching yourself when ask. Want to know how long to learn - whatever??? Play it correctly + Cleanly daily then your ready to move on to next playing style🔸
Thanks Dave, glad your getting to grips with the BassMan, interesting news about the Katana, always use the clean which is great but will deffo try the Acoustic side for a change and report back, why didn't I think of that???
Hi Dave, I have a question about the pedal board into Katana settings. If you have the Katana's gain and volume turned all the way up, how can you practice in a low volume setting? As far as I see there are three basic options; you set the attenuator in the amp to its lowest setting, you change the settings on your pedal board to reduce the signal going into the amp or you just turn the volume knob down on your guitar. Which of these would you do? Have a good evening.
Some my favorite films consist of “dazed and confused” “slum dogg millionaire” “jaws” “step brothers” “lord of rings” Hey Dave will you ever be back on 5110 club?
I watched a recent Peter Green documentary, he got out of the car, and said whos that? Sounded like live music in a pub in England, the manager said just a live band playing, he said ive seen this guy on tv, (it was Kurt Cobain MTV blasting so loud in the street, was 1996-97, I even thort for a moment it was Nirvana playing live, was bizzare that reaction & cool
@greenmanalishi6963 Peter Green 1997 @11 mins 50 sec, also in Beatles Get back, John Lennons talking about Peter Green, to be honest ive only just started listening to his music, every note on fretboards got feel, amazing really I know hes classed as one of the best, just took me years to listen, I knew Albatross a bit though
Dave, do you think the Fender Tone master Bassman will replace your Oranges and Boss Katana Artist? Please Hurry up and do your 2nd part to the Tonemaster Bassman with your pedalboard!
Dave, so you are gonna get another Jet guitar cause the first had ghosts? Playing Paul McCartney’s song Jet! too many times give it ghosts of suffragettes did it?
Here we go again with Nirvana of Dave’s music cause that’s where he sends me, to Nirvana. This statement has no relation or substance to the band of the same name. It’s just a coincidence regardless what Gibbs says they do happen and this is one.
All good information. I’m still ogling your new Tweed Tonemaster Bassman. That just blew my mind. As far as mic 🎤 placement, do you ever watch people playing who sound good and look where they place their mics? If possible, I’d really like to hear you demo the Blackstar St. James 100 amp. Those aren’t very popular in the US. Also, I don’t think you can buy a Jett guitar 🎸 in the US. Could you demo a Black Cat Bad Cat small stack? Have you seen the Sterling Cutlass CT50? It has almost everything that the $2499 Fender Strat Ultra has for $599. I’m not planning on the Ultra since I learned about the Sterling. It has all the important things that I think should be on a Strat and then some ✅. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵⭐️🩷
Dave, keep doing what your doing mate🤘
Thank you so much. I will try my best.
