He comes from a great family. His dad, Cecil was one of the earliest supporters of George Orwell and helped him tremendously in the initial part of his writing career.
He's so unlike how you'd expect him to be. For someone who's incredibly intimidating on screen he seems so affable in real life. Not that I'd expect him to be overly serious anyway but still, refreshing to see he's just a regular guy.
Yes, you're right. He appears to be a very nice, fine, well-mannered man which is a farcry expected from an actor that legendary. I expected him to be very chilling and intimidating. Nice to see it's not the case. I hope to see him in new movies next year. He should definitely work with Fincher, Von Trier or Malick one day.
I expected DDL given his prestigious acting pedigree and upbringing to be very intimidating, icy and haunting. But it appears he's actually humorous, witty, polite, eloquent and a very decent guy. Can't WAIT for his return on screen.
So you're in front of Daniel Day-Lewis. One of the greatest and most reclusive actors of our time. And now you have the opportunity to ask him a question, an opportunity most can only dream about. And what do you do with this opportunity? What do you ask him? Whether his fucking beard was itchy or not...of course. In fact, almost all of these questions are incredibly stupid. Seriously, how can these people call themselves "journalists"?
I love how he makes such an effort to find the questioner, make eye contact, and really establish a connection with that person (calling him or her by name if he can). He seems so affable, open, quietly articulate and funny... and this for a person with such a reputation of being reclusive.
Here we have one of the greatest actors of all time and the reporters ask him questions about beards, passports and drinking. It makes me wonder how these reporters get their jobs yet he handles the stupidity in the most elegant manner which is what makes him one of the greatest actors of all time.
Oh piss the hell off you pompous, pretentious dickslap. If we're not hearing about how celebrities shouldn't speak on serious issues (politics, social ills, environment, etc.), then we're getting the likes of you knocking anyone who doesn't ask them about their 'method' or did how they 'channel' so-and-so in their film. He obviously was fine with all the questions and no doubt was glad not to get some such topic that would lead to some longwinded response. This was just a quick Q&A post-award, goober, not Inside the Actor's Studio.
Daniel Day Lewis is such an amazing actor. I like it that he has never been interested in the awards or money, but seems to do it purely for the art of it.
Daniel Day-Lewis is so humble and gracious. He is truly a decent human being. I am so glad he has been my favorite actor of all time! Love his sense of humor, too!
So happy to see William, the Duke of Cambridge, dub him Sir Daniel on 11/14/14. He was so humble on the announcement, and seemed very proud and honored at the ceremony. It's a shame we have to pinch ourselves when an actor is totally serious about the work but doesn't take himself too seriously, and gives acceptance speeches that are usually brief but always articulate, gracious, and witty. He makes all those qualities refreshing, not stodgy.
His Lincoln portrait stays with you long after you see the film. It's so refreshing to see someone who's so choosy about the work they do. The real triumph was when 12 Years A Slave won the Oscar this year. That film is the bookend to Lincoln, which I consider a work of art.
He is ageing very beautifully and is pure class 💜I have had a big crush on him since the unbearable lightness..... shame about the moronic questions which he dealt with of course with grace
if he does another historical figure or a character with a disability, he will get himself a fourth best actor oscar, we all know the academy gives extra respect to people who do roles like that and he always is incredible.
@@EclipticVistaYT Nowhere near Oldman or DDL. Their sheer range, skill and versatility beats him. However, Brando was the most "influential" of all the actors because he brought naturalism on screen and commercialized it, which was actually initiated by Orson Welles - who again is arguably the greatest American actor of all time.
He's the definition of an English gentleman. Hats off, Mr. Lewis. He should be knighted by the Queen for his extraordinary contribution to acting, since he makes it harder for any other actor these days. I love the British Invasion :)
DDL is the most wonderful and most talented actor ever! Totally deserved all this honour! Looking forward to his next role in some years, hopefully not in too many years. Daniel, congratulations and all the best!!!
It's almost like acting is so easy for him that he doesn't understand why people are so shocked. Especially when the gentlemen ask if he has trouble breaking character, he almost is like, Yeah of course dude its not that hard for me. Greatest Actor Of All Time.
Anybody else want to make a list of less-stupid questions? I'll start: -Mr (or Sir, now) Day-Lewis, after you won this award for My Left Foot, you said that it wasn't any particular aspect of Christy Brown that drew you to tell his story, but his life in its entirety. Do you feel that way about Abraham Lincoln?
1:11 Even Plainview? "I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my meal!" "I want to talk to you without your friend in my ear, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark." "What do you want for dinner Daniel? I am a spaghetti man."
min 1:28 "Have you been able to come out of character yet?" Same dude that asked Tarantino the most idiotic batsh#t insane question when he was up. Indian dudes HILARIOUS!
Wow..... Your name is an indian name and you are asking this.... Truly, British not just ruled india, they also enslaved minds and hearts of indians forever....
After all the ribbing he's gotten about his extreme take on Method acting its wonderful to see that he's taking it all with such grace and humor. Also, lol beardkid-how did you even get in the press conference room???
He is a throwback to the golden era of hollywood. He has a old soul, one of the greatest ever actors. 3 Oscars WOW. He is debonar and old hollywood classy, he would be perfect back in the 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, 1960's. One of the true greats. His name is even like a old hollywood...Daniel Day Lewis. He deserve all those Oscars.
he's such a gentleman, answering kindly to all those terrible questions
He comes from a great family. His dad, Cecil was one of the earliest supporters of George Orwell and helped him tremendously in the initial part of his writing career.
Daniel Day Lewis is like the smartest, classiest, most elegant actor of all time. lol
needless to say, just the best of his generation.
He's aged really well.
He's so unlike how you'd expect him to be. For someone who's incredibly intimidating on screen he seems so affable in real life. Not that I'd expect him to be overly serious anyway but still, refreshing to see he's just a regular guy.

Nice to see it's not the case. I hope to see him in new movies next year. He should definitely work with Fincher, Von Trier or Malick one day.
He seems incredibly soft spoken and shy in interviews. He was quite (obviously) happier here
I expected DDL given his prestigious acting pedigree and upbringing to be very intimidating, icy and haunting. But it appears he's actually humorous, witty, polite, eloquent and a very decent guy. Can't WAIT for his return on screen.
oh, dear...
Sign of an actor dude
They are in front of one of the best actor in history and they make the most stupid questions ever.

Whether his fucking beard was itchy or not...of course. In fact, almost all of these questions are incredibly stupid. Seriously, how can these people call themselves "journalists"?
Can I have an example of what you would have asked then? :)
Not whether his beard was fucking itchy or not lol
Johnny Twohats what character was the hardest to come back from??
Johnny Twohats I'd want to know about his selection process when it comes to selecting film roles.
+kickodude i know like it was not a fake beard u dumb fuck
I love how he makes such an effort to find the questioner, make eye contact, and really establish a connection with that person (calling him or her by name if he can). He seems so affable, open, quietly articulate and funny... and this for a person with such a reputation of being reclusive.
He’s so kind, down to earth, and polite when answering these!! What a legend of a man!
Here we have one of the greatest actors of all time and the reporters ask him questions about beards, passports and drinking. It makes me wonder how these reporters get their jobs yet he handles the stupidity in the most elegant manner which is what makes him one of the greatest actors of all time.
i couldnt agree more

Most genuine man in the industry. Not fake at all, completely genuine, charmingly awkward, gracious, and genuinely kind hearted.
He's so beautiful and kind. A gentleman.
he's such a sweetie
Wow! He seems so humble! :D
he's so adorable
Daniel Day Lewis is such an amazing actor. I like it that he has never been interested in the awards or money, but seems to do it purely for the art of it.
just so deeply, unconsciously charming & polite. plus as impossible as it seems, he gets better looking with each year that goes by.
What a polite, funny, down to earth guy. Cool dude.
Daniel Day-Lewis is so humble and gracious. He is truly a decent human being. I am so glad he has been my favorite actor of all time! Love his sense of humor, too!
He is sooo good looking!
His smile is so tender and awkward I fall in love everytime a watch him
"did you get any grief playing an American president" no I'm Daniel day Lewis the greatest living actor, and possibly the greatest ever actor
Si Wakeman Should've said "bitch, I AM THE THIRD REVEALATION!"
Did they get money to ask such stupid questions?
They're called "jokes"
I see. They're on the wrong place then, they should change places with the mighty Daniel.
+Max Walker Jokes? the one from the beard is just stupid

Legend, nuff said.
The Greatest actor ever :) greatings from Bulgaria
He is one of the greatest actors ever. Period!
He seems so kind and humble. And his performance totally wins the Oscar! I loooved Lincoln.

Lincoln, Twelve Years a Slave, and Django Unchained is like a black rights trilogy
he is adorbs and that smile 'le sigh'!
He is ageing very beautifully and is pure class 💜I have had a big crush on him since the unbearable lightness..... shame about the moronic questions which he dealt with of course with grace
The most amazing and memorizing actor in the last 30 years!
great actor and beautiful man!
he can still get it
if he does another historical figure or a character with a disability, he will get himself a fourth best actor oscar, we all know the academy gives extra respect to people who do roles like that and he always is incredible.

He is a gentlemen for sure and adorable really.
he's Daniel Day Lewis for God's sake ASK the Man a bloody good question!!!!
along with gary oldman, the best actor in my lifetime
Gary Oldman has an acting portfolio that most would envy, I agree.
He's one of my favorites!
anderchri what about Marlon Brando
I don't consider Brando in my lifetime Sheila, he died when I was 14
@@EclipticVistaYT Nowhere near Oldman or DDL. Their sheer range, skill and versatility beats him. I can´t believe how a man too sweet can make ruthless and rude characters, I love him.
Him and Christoph Waltz must do a movie together!
So humble and self- depricating! Just a great actor and genuinely nice man.
He is so cute and amazing and humble and brilliant
omg i Love him! he is so charming and adorable.
Daniel, you are a LEGEND.
He's the definition of an English gentleman. Hats off, Mr. Lewis. He should be knighted by the Queen for his extraordinary contribution to acting, since he makes it harder for any other actor these days. I love the British Invasion :)
I love his sense of humor and his personality. He seems fun to be around.
A well-deserved Oscar, for sure. I think it's one of the two or three best performances in film history.
He's darling! So gracious and humble.
He's lovely :)
He has an amazing smile💙
Thank you, Mr. Lewis, for your work, your kindness and your humanity.
He'll always be bill the butcher in my heart :)
DDL is the most wonderful and most talented actor ever! Totally deserved all this honour! Looking forward to his next role in some years, hopefully not in too many years.

Greatest Actor Of All Time.
He's very charming!

I like that question
We could do much better than them by just exchanging some ideas right here for ten minutes.
+julittok
That's what I've been waiting for but nobody's added any more
Good question! But you've got to call him Sir Daniel Day-Lewis or Sir Daniel. You don't say Sir McCartney, it's always Sir Paul or Sir Paul McCartney.
"She knew how to handle all of them in their own particular way." *wink*
Its nice to see great people so humble and calm and easy.. Love him 👌
He's so charming. Love this man!
He is the greatest actor I know. His work is steeped in historiography.
1:11 Even Plainview?
"I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my Broccoli! I've abandoned my meal!"
"I want to talk to you without your friend in my ear, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark."
"What do you want for dinner Daniel? I am a spaghetti man."
he is so nice and down to earth even though he is the best actor ever
awesome actor!
I LUV his accent
He's so cuuuuuuuute and I love how he laughs.
He is so incredibly wonderful.
I feel second hand embarrassment on behalf of some of those journalists.
DDL on the other hand is purely incredible.
I love with his laughter and smile
Such a lovely man,sweet and smart❤️
Beautiful...❤🥰
I'm growing a strong love and respect for British people day by day... They are really classy and super smart with great sense of humor 👍👍👍👍❤️🥰
Come to Hull
Is there a more gracious and humble human being who walks this Earth? I don't think so.
This is the only interview that i have seen him this joyful
He is my top favourite actor in Hollywood. Just so damn great actor.
Such a gentleman...
He's actually really funny
min 1:28 "Have you been able to come out of character yet?"
Same dude that asked Tarantino the most idiotic batsh#t insane question when he was up. Indian dudes HILARIOUS!
RideMyTruck what did he ask?
That indian journalist, how did he make it to the Hollywood? How did he do it?
I was expecting a comment of this sort.
Wow..... Your name is an indian name and you are asking this.... Truly, British not just ruled india, they also enslaved minds and hearts of indians forever....
I was looking for this comment. Man, that Tarantino disaster! xD
In spite of the title of this video, not one word was mentioned in this interview about Daniel Day-Lewis winning his third Oscar.
he is the greatest actor ever in the movie history, well balanced as well. great man.
After all the ribbing he's gotten about his extreme take on Method acting its wonderful to see that he's taking it all with such grace and humor. Also, lol beardkid-how did you even get in the press conference room???
To think this is the same guy to play Bill the Butcher.
Good god he is a good acting
Man, I thought I loved him before… but this wit and humility 🥰
It's funny how they struggle to find people in crowd x)
The questions sure are silly... But he really knows how to answer it with a lot of humor ! X)
THREE OSCARS...congratulations ...only five films since 1998...and three oscars....

What an amazing, articulate, humble gentleman Daniel Day-Lewis is.Not a bad actor either. All the charm and wit of the young Beatles in one package.
We all know he's extremely talented but dang he's so handsome and I love the dark blue tux with the black trim.
