    He's so humble and down-to-earth. He seems to kind and genuine. Hands down, most talented actor working today.

      Imo Denzel is as talented as Daniel. He's also humble and genuine. Both are one of the best actors today.

    I was reading a book about the last discovered American Indian, "Ishi", while I was working in a theater. DDL came by the theater and saw me reading the book and asked about it. I told him about the Indian man's thoughts and the story about him. DDL stated he wished he had read the book before he did "Last of the Mohicans". I thought that was interesting that he was still interested in his character, wanting to inform the role, even after the film had been made.

    • @benjaminknotts745
      @benjaminknotts745 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He sort of answered. He doesn’t really have an aim, he’s just attempting to live the character and ignore his personal feelings about what he wanted for the character

    • @primarchlogarius
      @primarchlogarius 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was actually looking for this comment. He is an excellent actor and also a good person off screen but I am always left wondering during his interviews what is he trying to say. I feel it’s not dodging just that his answer and my thinking are not synchronized so it doesn’t make sense to me but it might have to him.

    People need to stop saying he is a Method actor. He is not, even HE cringes when somebody says the word "method". The Method was created by Strasberg after Stanislavski came to NY and follows sensory memory and work. Basically, personalizing every aspect of the character inner life to oneself. Staying in character for the duration of the whole production is not going method, is his own personal way of staying focused and working. Marilyn Monroe, Brando, Elia Kazan, Al Pacino, Eleonora Dusa, Dean, those are "method" actors in the sense that followed the teachings (sense memory) of Strasberg and other "method" teachers as Stella Adler (who didn´t get along with Lee) back in the days at the Group Theatre and the Actors Studio.
    DDL studied at Old´s Vic and had a "remarkable teacher" (quote) called Rudi Shelley who apparently designed his own version of Stanislavski´s system (himself didn´t like the word "method" or technique) - just as Lee did back in the day - and DDL adopted his WAY OF WORKING from there. But that is it, each system, technique, whatever you wanna call it, is a way for the individual actor/actress to work, it´s always maleable because it is supposed to serve each artist individually. But the "method" that everybody loves to mention, is a very specific system that 99% of the actors and actresses people name as "method actors", are simply not method actors. The best actors have their own system, and learn to combine the best aspects of each technique/method they visited before.
    Calling "Method actor" whomever decides to stay in character is a socialmedia trend.

    • @samkresil6011
      @samkresil6011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait, he cringes whenever someone mentions "method" to him? :/ But it is what he does though. How he prepares himself for his roles.

    • @jorgeanwaryoma3166
      @jorgeanwaryoma3166 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@samkresil6011 you can see it in his face everytime someone mentions the "Method". Because him staying in character is not method acting. Method acting is connecting one owns sensorial experiencies to te character. Staying in character is his own approach, and whistl nobody knows how he works *exactly* when alone (which might be sensorial), being rhe character in and out the set is his own approach.
      Moral of the story, being in character outside the set is not "method acting". (Its not better nor worse, it is simply not it)

      At last. Someone who knows a little bit. I always get frustrated being on the internet when this subject comes up. What has to be mentioned though that all American "methods" whether it's Strasberg's or Adler's or whatever... are lesser versions and interpretations of Stanislavski's system. None of these people actually worked with or studied under Stanislavski. NONE. The only teacher in the US who could've tough Stanislavski was his student Michail Chekhov.

    This is so sad - he places such emphasis on the joy of this work, how deeply he feels this joy - and you can see he means it - and then after the next film he quits acting - I know this isn't the first time he's said he's quitting - and I can see how Phantom Thread might make him newly self-conscious about his process, if that's what happened - anyway, I hope he opts to resume his acting

      Brando couldn't even come close. Brando stopped doing method acting in the mid seventies, after last Tango in Paris. Because he just couldn't handle it. It became too painful for him, and he stopped using real emotions after that. Lewis has mastered it, because after all these years, though he has had moments where it got to him, like turning down Interview with a vampire because of it. he still to this day, will submerge himself and become another person, to where, like he says here, it seems like someone else played the part.
