I think the audience was really lazy that year. No one got a standing ovation. Maybe it had something to do with the writers strike; everything was austere and toned down. And ever since this ceremony, everyone seems to get a standing ovation: Octavia Spencer, Mo'nique, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock..
He doesn't need a standing ovation, everyone who has seen his movies will all agree that hes the best actor of all time, bar none. I can't even describe it, when I saw what he actually looked like after watching Gangs of New York I was confused and thought there was another Daniel Day Lewis, hes just that good. Nominees for an Oscar would be lucky if he doesn't make a movie in that year.

I watched There Will Be Blood 4 times in the past week. There's something about the film that really pulled me into it, and still hasn't let go. Daniel and Pauls performances were absolutely brilliant. Daniel Day Lewis, hands down one of the very finest in the game today. Cheers

I love de Niro and pacino (de Niro has the edge over pacino for me) but I have to agree Ddl has more in his acting armoury he's simply amazing. I don't like all his films but his acting ability is peerless. My fave Ddl films are last of the mohicans and the boxer.

I'm sitting here watching Day-Lewis' 3 Oscar acceptance speeches and I'm in awe of how humble this man is. He is easily the most gifted actor of his generation, and yet he has found the means to not let all of that clout go to his head. A truly great artist, and possibly an even better man.
I just noticed the 4 actors that won an Oscar that year are all European: Daniel Day Lewis and Tilda Swinton (UK), Marion Cotillard (France) and Javier Bardem (Spain).
For me personally and this is entirely my opinion, Daniel Day Lewis's performance in There Will Be Blood was spellbinding. I mean TWBB is a long watch but, I found the time passed amazingly fast for me. I found myself looking forward to every syllable of DDL's dialog. Every turn of his head or expression. I have not seen Lincoln but, right now, to me Daniel Deal Lewis in TWBB is the greatest acting performance I have ever seen.
It's really hard to believe that this gentle man with the voice and look of a young man, is the same person who plays Bill the butcher in Gangs of New York and Plainview in There will be blood.. What a great actor.
I just watched there will be blood for the first time last night, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Everything in this movie was incredible. Daniel Day Lewis is magical beyond measure, and the way it was filmed, the story, the music. One of the greatest movies ever created.

Perhaps the single most immersive performance ever put on film. You absolutely, 100% know you’re seeing Daniel Plainview and not an actor. Every single aspect of that character was perfectly realised. He’s on screen for almost the whole movie and set a new standard for how to possess a character.

Roberto Ruggio I'm very happy DDL won that year, because of obvious reasons (man is a complete genius, TWBB is gold), but I am a big amirer of Viggo and I absolutely loved him in Eastern Promises! Man...I remember watching this live that night and rooting for Johnny Depp, because I was (and still am) an avid fan and just KNEW he was going to win for Sweeney Todd. I knew he would. But this man, whom I honestly didn't know much about until that night, swept in and got it for There Will Be Blood. I was so pissed. But then something about that baptism scene they showed stuck with me and I had to watch the film...and I could not stop talking like Daniel Plainview for like a year after. My momma was sicka me screaming "I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!" all the time 🤣🤣 Oh my goodness, I *immediately* withdrew all hate and fell in love with his phenomenal acting!! Love Johnny, but Daniel Day-Lewis did his thing in There Will Be Blood and I am heartbroken that he has retired 💕
Daniel Day-Lewis is unbelievable. Hard to describe his talent and skills without writing a book. Simply superb. "There will be blood" is one of the best movies ever made and that I've seen yet. A masterpiece from A to Z. No other actor could have portrayed this character in the movie as Day-Lewis did. Same goes for "Lincoln". British actresses and actors are the finest.
It always bugged me how Helen Mirren just said and the Oscar goes to Daniel Day Lewis. Even though everyone knew he'd win, the suspense of "and the Oscar goes to..." is important.

It's so amazing, astounding, how different Daniel Day Lewis is from the characters he plays.
Some great actors often take something from themselves to embody a character. They pull something they can relate to.

Roberto Ruggio I'm very happy DDL won that year, because of obvious reasons (man is a complete genius, TWBB is gold), but I am a big amirer of Viggo and I absolutely loved him in Eastern Promises! Man...I remember watching this live that night and rooting for Johnny Depp, because I was (and still am) an avid fan and just KNEW he was going to win for Sweeney Todd. I knew he would. But this man, whom I honestly didn't know much about until that night, swept in and got it for There Will Be Blood. I was so pissed. But then something about that baptism scene they showed stuck with me and I had to watch the film...and I could not stop talking like Daniel Plainview for like a year after. My momma was sicka me screaming "I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!" all the time 🤣🤣 Oh my goodness, I *immediately* withdrew all hate and fell in love with his phenomenal acting!! Love Johnny, but Daniel Day-Lewis did his thing in There Will Be Blood and I am heartbroken that he has retired 💕
Helen Mirren by far the best presenter of Daniel Day Lewis's Oscar. She is talented and gorgeous in equal measure.

Daniel Day-Lewis is unbelievable. Hard to describe his talent and skills without writing a book. Simply superb. "There will be blood" is one of the best movies ever made and that I've seen yet. A masterpiece from A to Z. No other actor could have portrayed this character in the movie as Day-Lewis did. Same goes for "Lincoln". British actresses and actors are the finest.

Even though everyone knew he'd win, the suspense of "and the Oscar goes to..." is important.

Can tell what a great actor he is in real life he is somewhat shy and self effacing but has played theses ferocious larger than life characters.
