Hi Mark…I’m a short man like you, I’ve got Brixtons boots (3” lift) they make all the difference mate…they stop me looking like a child when trying to manoeuvre the bike around👍

Howdy, just came across the video randomly. I've got the same bike, with the khaki tank and all. I found that the bike was geared ~really~ low for what I required, with off-roading being maybe...5% of my use requirement. Just recently changed the front sprocket from a 14 to a 15, along with having a custom 37 tooth made for the back. Immediately better, fixing the only issues I had with the bike itself. I'll end up having to replace the tires it comes with, but that's not necessarily a negative.

I saw one of these in Blade Stratford (Upon-Avon) a few days ago and I think they look better 'in the flesh' so to speak. Not a bike I particularly want but I must admit I was impressed with it....Incidentally I took delivery of a 2017 Honda NC750 today. I needed a workhorse and couldn't think of a more suitable bike.

This looks stunning Mark, the gold forks, green paintwork and tan seat really set it apart, a lovely burble from the exhaust too, it sounds bigger than a 400!

Thanks as always, Mark. The Scrambler 400 is 20 lbs heavier than the Speed 400.
I viewed a review on both bikes together between two riders who swapped the bikes back and forth to compare notes.
They both agreed that the Speed 400 was discernably the quicker of the two, but only slightly.
Apparently, in this 400cc power range, 20 lbs can make a difference.
It looks like the Scrambler exhaust is the biggest contributor to added weight and next after that is the 21" cast aluminum wheel.
An after market exhaust should narrow the weight gap considerably.

Recently in my local Triumph dealer and I have got to say the 400x has cracking build quality for the price, wonder how it compares with the Fantic caballero 250/500. Usually go for a bikes around 120bhp so not sure if its for me or not. Thanks Mark.

Great review, I took the 400x out for a test and did like it but have to say I thought it was a little slow, maybe expected too much but always had a 600 and just think I would get bored with the 40hp as does not have the get up and go of other bikes, I’m testing the 400 this weekend I’m hoping the smaller rear sprocket and gearing make me think I could live with it, as really think they are both bargains and great looking bikes.

@@markpulling12 Hi Mark, The Scrambler was fun to ride. Comfortable, great handling on the bends, good riding position, super nippy through town traffic. Braking was good, overtaking from 50 to 70 mph was done with ease.
I did find lots of vibration from around 60 mph which I expected as its a single but would have found very tiring/annoying on any reasonable long ride. So wasn't the bike for me.

Did the one i test rode have an issue i wonder as at slow speed, 30 and below, it have quite snatchy. A red bell was illuminated on the dash which would indicate some sort of issue 🤔. The pull in top gear from 70 was impressive i thought.

    • @ohmylanta4558
      @ohmylanta4558 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Depends what gear you were in and how 'ham fisted' you may have been with the throttle. The red light is probably immobilizer. There seems to be a common problem with it being lit but I believe Triumph are working on some software to fix.

On the suspension travel... it's possible this could have that about its suspension, but on the roads, even if the suspension is sprung exactly the same - the larger front wheel and beefier tyres will make a noticeable difference in gliding over bumps and potholes. I noticed this big time after a few years riding scooters for my delivery job, then returned to geared bikes and suddenly potholes and bumps seemed nothing like as bad as I'd remembered them. It's all about relative perspective, although what I was riding was the cb300r, which was extremely lightweight and had showa big piston forks, which probably made an even bigger difference.

Noi don't agree mark is absolutely right to compare 1 bike to another especially if its a direct competitor in every way including the seat hight and power output including the torque output aswell as everyothersspectof a bike's appeal over its competitors as I've had my eyes on the royal enfield interceptor 650 but since the introduction of the BSA goldstar I've heard its more torquey than the interceptor im not sure if its enough to sway me either way towards the interceptor over the BSA but im very much greatfull to TH-camer's like Mark and Andy from the Missenden flyer for their efforts in helping us the general public who are giving the purchase of these bike's serious consideration!Mark is a very good reviewerwho's well spoken thoughtful and respectful in his reviews in relation to other TH-camer's and motorcycle companies and enjoy all of his reviews so much so that I've often watched a review on a bike that im not even interested in just to enjoy Mark's review and opinion on whatever bike he happens to be reviewing! By the time ive added extras, the Speed comes to 5,500 anyway, so its flip a coin time. I'll need an axle stand to do chain work, but thats typical of todays bikes....no center stand! I've had more than 27 bikes. Hypersports, sport touring, touring, motorscooter whatever bit the last years I am downsizing because I just ride for pleasure. My last bike was a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and I loved it. But after 2,5y i sold it. Could sell it easily with some manufacturers warranty on it. I sold it just because I don't have the room to have two bikes, and for the sort highway riding and overtaking in general the Meteor wasn't good enough. So I did a testride with the Royal Enfiels Meteor and Himalayan 450, Kawasaki Z500 and Honda CL500. The Honda falls off the list because the next years it will be no longer available in Belgium and Holland and I suppose also the rest off europe no longer available. The Engine of the Kawasaki was nice but the seat position was not for me anymore. I prefer a straight up riding position now. The guerrilla and Himalayan 450 were great. Still a single cilinder and off course not so smooth as the twin of the honda and Kawasaki but more than ok. But....I really don't like the colors of the Guerrilla and Himalayan. Not one color that conquered my heart. But the Triump Scrambler 400 is absolutely the most beautiful of all the bikes I mentioned.
So my question is. Have you ridden the Himalayan or guerrilla and which engine (and in fact all the bike)do you prefer? The royal Enfields or the Triumph's (especially the scrambler)
Very curious to what others AND YOU have to say. Thx🙏

Hi Mark, meanwhile I did a testride with the Triumph Scrambler 400x and I must say, I wasn't impressed. Even stronger, after 15min I was back at the dealer. It is good but it didn't makes me smile. The guerrilla was more fun to ride but not super. I think I look some further and probably ending up with that CL500 which was the best testride in the 400-500 category till now the last couple of months.
