- There's not as many Ebike options here in Australia as in America, so how do you get a good cheap ebike?
I found one and bought it, but is it any good?
Is 250W enough?
What do you get for A$800?
Spoiler alert, It's worth it.
Hi Greg, I too I’m a photographer and live in Tasmania; however, I’m currently in Victoria. I found your channel as I was researching EBikes I’ve just bought the same bike as what you bought three years ago, so yeah, I’m looking forward to trying it out.
I'm mainly a landscape photographer, semi-retired now as I celebrate my 70th birthday on Friday. I'm just about to watch some of your other videos. I have of course liked and subscribed.
Hi Henry, welcome aboard. I'm also retired now, and just getting into land/seascapes for my own enjoyment.
Had my bike nine months now and I love it. It lives in the boot of my car and pops out when I need it. It has 700km on the speedo and I thought I would have done more. But eight weeks of constant rain, then howling winds and biting cold turned me into a wimp. How is the bike? Still doing exactly what I want it to. Battery and motor, fine, tyres, fine, frame, fine. I normally ride 15 to 20km per trip and do two trips before I charge the battery. I normally have one to two green battery lights showing after two trips. Also, I am a big bozo at 6’4” and verging on fat bugger so the performance of the bike is great. The only problem I have is some of the spokes have a tiny bit of surface rust but that is because I live right on the coast and generally ride along beachside tracks with the occasional ride on the beach, and isn’t that a blast! Value for money? Terrific. Would I buy another one? F$&@ yeah! Overall comments, a terrific bike, but heavy. I fold mine after every ride and I have noticed a little bit of wear and tear from lifting it in and out of my car, a commodore, but that is expected. I have a dream ride coming up next week that I have been planning for some time. I am ducking up to Sydney for a week with the bike and including a ride from woolloomoolloo, through the opera house, along circular quay, under the harbour bridge through Barangaroo into darling harbour and finishing up in pyrmont. Then back again. I am looking forward to the trip and am sure the bike will go the distance. If you are iffy about buying a folding e bike don’t be. If I didn’t have this bike my arse would have merged into my couch. I feel healthier, I am healthier and my bike makes me happy.
That's great Bob, and your planned trip sounds good. Much better to bike around Sydney than try to drive :) Glad you're out there enjoying life.
Greg, I have been following your story. I am currently in hospital recovering from a hip replacement. I ordered one of the fortis e bikes a week ago and it arrived yesterday. My son has put it together and it is waiting for me when I get home next week. I thank you for your simple “Aussie” inspiration. I am looking forward to clocking up the k’s on this thing and being a bit of a yahoo.
Hi Bob, hope you recover well with your new hip. Take it easy on the ebike too... I've already come off at speed and broken a wrist :) Self inflicted. Still using my Fortis, and also an escooter I got. The bike is a lot safer and relaxing though. Cheers
A middrive motor would suit you better for steep hills as you can change gears, rear hub drive doesn't utilise any gears just drives the wheel
Hi Greg, thanks for this - I've been looking for an ebike but for a 70km round trip commute with some serious hills. Assuming I need to keep looking lol - but thanks for the views from the warby trail, nice to see something outside our 5km radius at the moment! Pen
This might give you an idea of what battery/motor set up to look for for long range: www.juicedbikes.com/pages/real-world-range-test
Good for you. Surprisingly cheap. My ebike conversion cost $600 for the bike and $1600 for the kit.
The same bike is now cost $1167 from Kogan and I just bought it for me and my wife for $999 each while on sales.
Good to hear that this bike is just adequate for basic use and in reasonably good made as I am intended to do anyway. Have a nice day out and about
You’re looking for a good throttle e bike FLX Bandit On throttle alone goes 25 mph Shimano gearing Front suspension,Of course pedal assist But if you don’t want to you could just hit the throttle and go.For your next E bike check it out FLX Bandit. Also good review I enjoyed your video.
Is that available in Australia?
I believe they ship anywhere and pay for the shipping too
@@kingdiamond51fifty Nah, website says not available in this country... nice looking bike though.
Sorry brother I don’t understand why they wouldn’t ship it.if you got the cash I would ship anything If I want to sell something bad enough Get my product out there.
Probably not available because 250w is the legal limit in Australia for EBikes. This is why we have limited options.
A bigger motor is actually illegal in Australia. Ebikes can only be up to 250watt and the assist has to cut out at 25kph, anything faster is by leg power only. A throttle is only legal at 6kph walking speed on a 250 watt motor but is ok for use on a 200 watt motor. I've never seen a 200 watt motor advertised anywhere. There's a lot of huffing and puffing on a steep hill with a 250 watt motor but try it with the motor turned off for a reality check. 😀
Is that an old disused railway line you’re on?
The Warburton Trail. An old rail line that ran from Lilydale to Warburton.
Thanks Greg, for the comprehensive review. Do you think you can add a throttle to this bike?
I couldn't, but someone who understands the controller and wiring could.
@@GregCarrick thanks for the quick reply. I've been thinking to purchase a 20" bike and this keeps coming up. You're review and the 1000k update have me convinced. Those trails look amazing btw. Happy riding. .. Glad you covered well from the nasty fall.
@@GregCarrick Just got mine delivered this morning. Now to put it together!
@@suearis2336 Excellent. Don't forget your helmet :)
@@GregCarrick your videos are highly informative. Thanks for taking the time to do them. Saw one where you mentioned the Pines. I grew up just over the gold course... Karingal. :) good old days!
Wheres this place? Looks great
MNount Evelyn and the Warburton Rail Trail in Australia
Just got the same bike from Kogan for $750,
great price
Mate, I would like to know if you're riding your bike without pedaling what is the top speed? 25ks?
That would be 0kph. There is no throttle on this bike, only pedal assist.
@@GregCarrick but if you are pedaling how much effort you have to do? I mean, is it a good pedal assist or you have to put a lot of effort on this bike?
@@julianomocellin5960 It has 5 levels of pedal assist. You would be best to try before you buy.
Jings, why are you pecking when you’re riding an electric bike? 🤣
I'm an old man!
Greg Carrick I know how it feels 😆
Nice bike for the price... bargain! 👍🏻
Not a waste, you get good money for scrap these days!👍😂👍
Yes, and batteries are worth something!
🙂
That's a poor tail light.
