TTartisan 100mm lens on Fujifilm Medium Format
The TTArtisan 100mm 2.8 lens was made for full frame/APSC/M43 however it also works on the GFX cameras.
The news is mostly good - it covers the whole sensor, it's easy to focus, it does produce bubble bokeh as well as sunstars, it's dirt cheap.
BUT, TTArtisan don't know how to fix the m42 mount so the lens is the right way up on the camera. Every other m42 lens I have is fine, until it comes to this one.
So, if you can put up with the stupidity of the markings for focus and aperture being underneath the lens, then this lens ticks all the other boxes.
I don't know whether to give this lens a 9/10 or a massive fail for being so stupid!

    I know you're mainly a digital channel, but I for one am extremely happy that anyone today is making a lens perfectly compatible with analogue cameras with M42 or Pentax K mount. Also very excited about the new 75/1.5 Biotar remake. And I'm not surprised in the slightest that this lens covers the tiny digital "medium" format sensor, 105mm was the standard focal length for 6x9cm format cameras, 75-80mm for 6x4.5 and 6x6, triplets like this were often used on the budget models.

    I was thinking about this as I was driving earlier today. If I had that lens, I would want to get a second lens cap, cut the centre out, superglue a step-up ring to the outside (with the assistance of a strip of plastic from the bottom of a Woolworths bag if necessary) and screw a protective filter in. I watched something recently from a chap discussing whether it was better to leave the objective lens unencumbered by extra glass, and depend on the hood, or tu use a UV/Skylight filter or such and maybe lose a little light. He decided after his camera swung as he was picking his way down a rocky path and the hood helped centre a jutting out rock on his new and expensive lens. That lens would be around 11mm on a full frame camera, I guess?

    • @GregCarrick
      @GregCarrick 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Rigging up a filter would be a bonus, plenty of times an ND filter would be useful on this. Yes, it's about 11mm in full frame terms.

    Great lens. Proof that sometimes you have to ignore the hype re the big brand names and just enjoy ( sometimes ) the less sharp lenses with there own look or style. Me I used to buy only expensive filters because you must have big brand names on ur expensive lens HYPE. Now I have tried Amazon polarised lenses ( very cheap ) guess what they are great. I recently got an x-t20, but i wanted a pocket camera aswell, and was considering the x70, but i decided to go for the xq2, which the smallest x-series camera and is really worth it as a second backup camera. It doesn't have the analog top dials, but it does have a front control ring on the 4x optical zoom lens to control aperture (f1.8), and the d-pad is customisable with the push of an E-Fn button, for iso, focus modes, etc. In manual mode, its easy to change the shutter speed. And it has 6 film simulations, with monochrome including the yellow, green, and red filters. The xq2 has classic chrome, where the xq1 doesn't. Its much better than i expected it to be.

    I decided to see how much of my XH1 I was using in manual mode by switching every thing off in camera and I was suprised to see that I don't need most of the camera for my work. I only shoot in manual mode and if you use third party lenses like I do I only need the very basics from my camera. The battery lasts roughly eight hours with continous stablisation mode switched on although camera is programmed to switch off after 5mins none use. I can go out for a days shoot with only two batteries ( one as a back up just in case.) It does beg the question why do we need such cameras with all the internal hype, only wish someone would produce a quality camera body that is all manual and nothing else at an affordable price. If I find it that's my next camera. Your Black Russian lens is not the sharpest, try KMZ Industar M39 50 f3.5 50mm in silver, looks a bit like the Russian spaceship, very sharp and a beautiful 'Tessar' lens to use.

      Hi Raphael, I'm no expert on the Sony system or lenses, never having used any, but if you want a small walk around lens, the TTArtisan 25mm f2 might be better. You'd have to check if they have them with a Sony mount for your Nex. It is also an all manual lens. So the focus and aperture are set by you on the lens itself. No control from the camera body over those two functions. However, it's a lot more capable and versatile than the 7Artisans 18mm. A three parter.... 1) A bit complex this one... the Fujifilm sensor is a X .80, so the 85mm would be about 68mm equiv. however, slide projector lenses don't gather light from the front, they gather it from the rear (to project light), so who knows what the 85mm or 100mm actually refers to... 2) My son in law does the CAD and printing of my adaptors. 3) I haven't noticed any, but then I haven't bothered trying much video with them.

    Nice photos again! Is that a full frame sensor -- i e., are these 85mm equivalent as well? Do you make your own 3D adaptors, or does someone do then for you? Do you get colour aberrations if you film in colour?

    When I got an X-T2 I found myself using front button focus. Works really well. I have an H1 on the way and I might just keep on with front button focus. I also use autofocus similarly and rarely see the need for AF or CAF. While it’s nice to have a snappy focusing lens like the XF35 f2 it’s great using fully manual lenses and many times I prefer that experience.

    Many Fujis are becoming collectors items - no wonder Matt ‘Mr Leica’ posted last week that he couldn’t understand why Fuji owners were willing to pay good money when they could own a Leica - even my XT 1 has gone way up in value !!
