What a wicked irony.. to see an existential sadness in Geoff's expression while he performs this one.. His voice is haunting. And in a way, he seems haunted by something treasured in the past, and now gone. More than immersing into the song, it shows a personal experience of his own thoughts, of his own emotions. Beyond identifying with the story, it's as though he is reminiscing of something he lost. That's why he got a work of art as a result. 🎹
I can't quite explain the feeling that takes over me when it's just Geoff and his piano with those low, rumbley tones. It's like when a cat lays on you and starts purring... Inexplicable peace and happiness. ❤

It breaks you and makes you cry... And after you listen it again and again (yes, being in his Patreon is the best thing ever!), it heals you. Thank you Geoff❤
After multiple listens, it occurs to me that there are repeated builds then falling back. Just like the relationship; step forward then back. Such an intriguing detail.
Holy. I had to go to my piano to check the lowest note you reached, I was so blown away. You have the deepest bass voice I’ve ever heard. What a gift! ❤ 🇨🇦
The simplicity of this arrangement stripped back and raw gives it all of the emotion the original missed. Its stark low rumble then ascends to a chorus in the clouds. Love it.

I like it stripped down to just the vocals with a Piano while he had white walls with windows.... simple, elegant, and it really makes you focus on just the amaziness of his rang and the beauty of his voice. You can really focus on every inflection, Man is too talented!
Geoff’s deep, smoky voice pulls you in, and then his incredible range shakes every fiber of feeling. Another exquisite arrangement which becomes another benchmark of beauty. Thank you.
Geoff thank you playing this song!!! This is one of my favorites and I every time I hear this song the world stops. I can't wait to hear this song tomorrow the my good headphones
I keep coming back to this. Haunting and yet ethereal with that awesome 'purr'. I had already loved this song from the original Now after hearing Geoff's several times I need to say just how much more emotional he made it. Previously, I really liked the higher parts, but Geoff has changed those into an almost breath. Not that he sings it in a particularly breathy manner, but more that it is so natural it is almost like breathing. Whereas, Isaak's high bits were more like a yodel. And usually, I prefer Geoff's more 'rounded' tones in his bass voice, but these more gravelly purrs feel more like a 'catch-in-the-throat' emotion. This is just gorgeous! And getting more gorgeous every time I listen to it. Visually perfect, too! Almost like the subtlety of fog. So many shades of grey.
Every time, I think that I'm finally going in prepared. And every time, I am not. This one shakes me, hard. A gorgeous, emotional gut-punch, so beautifully bittersweet.
I am hearing, but there is something weird and currently undiagnosed about how I experience sounds, so I always watch videos with captions on. What's missing in the captions for this one is that towards the end of the second verse, the steady beat of the rhythm becomes more "thumpy" and feels (both in my head and in my chest) almost like a heartbeat that is trying to stay alive, but is slowly burning out. I have done captioning for videos so I know that describing it this way would be pretty difficult to fit into the captions, but I wanted to share that in case it helps someone feel the song in a deeper way.
You described the sensation I feel when those notes shake my hand through my phone speaker. I have an unusual hearing loss due to a MTBI. That's why I enjoy Geoff's videos so much.
From the opening notes, tears sprung to my eyes, not only from the chords this time but by the plaintive cries of that piano. The arrangement as well as the instrument choice (not just that it's piano, but the type/timbre/tone of the piano) is absolutely perfect in conveying the heartbreak of these lyrics. I could have sworn that you slowed down the tempo from the original, but comparing the two, they are both at about 112 bpm and then I realized - Chris Isaak’s version has percussion on 1-2-3-4, but you’ve chosen to halve that, which gives the *illusion* of being slower. Really changes the mood of the song! Geoff, your choices just amaze me! I love how you utilized the main motif of this song in so many cool ways. At 1:04, it was super cool to hear, behind the lines of the verse, the motif of the chorus in the high, high piano, starting on an F#5, coming down to E, then D and *lingering on that D to create an E7 chord* (excuse me while I swoon for a moment) before finishing the line down to C# and then B. Then it repeats, but this time not lingering on the D and resembling more of the "I...don't want to fall in love" melody line. At 0:19, there's an A in that B minor chord, turning it into a Bmin7 chord which just has such *richness* and depth and interest. Holy smokers. At 1:18, using the above-mentioned chorus riff, but *backwards* (ascending) and in the bass clef as a transition to the next part of the song?? GENIUS! It's those little elements that really tie your songs together. (Not unlike The Dude and his rug.)
Angie, thank you! You always come through with the theory. I literally sat here with a metronome comparing Geoff's version to the original because I thought his was slower as well. I also landed at about 112 bpm for both versions, and ended my train of thought with just a "huh". But you come along and explain to me why I was hearing what I was hearing, and that's why I adore your musical breakdowns so much.
I really didn’t think this was a song I’d ever listen to on repeat, but Geoff put his magic spell on it and I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it now, but it’s many! And I’m definitely not done with it any time soon…
This is strange. I've listened to Geoff so many times that my ears seemed to be trained to expect certain things from one of his creations. The low notes...are resonant and give a shiver...because they are as good as it gets, every time! When it's time to stretch his range, the ears are expecting silk and melting butter, and they are rewarded. The harmonizing is anticipated, and every time it's like...omg...as the ears are taken on a ride. Putting his own uniqueness to a cover is just the icing on this velvet cake of hard work and talent. When the maestro sings, the ears are grateful to have all expectations met, and thank you for the enjoyment of truly beautiful music.
When I first saw these four quad triplets sing together so harmonious I fell in love with them right away. It took me weeks before I found out it was just one man singing all these different tones and lyrics. Mind wouldn't allow me to believe it, I am still having trouble believing it. I am not surprised about his bass voice because I grew up around Church quartets. But the fact this man has such a awesome range of all four tones of singing vocals is just darn astonishing! Geoff if you read these comments Thank you and God bless you. I cried the day Marty Robins died I had just turned fifteen and I so much loved his music. I heard you sing a few minutes of his song "Big Iron" and I cried again, you did such a good job of it. Could you please sing more of Marty Robins songs for me and make an old woman happy reliving her youth. Thank you. I loved Paul Bunyan's song as well.
J'adore toutes ses chansons. Il a une voix extraordinaire aussi bien dans les basses que dans les hauts. Je trouve juste dommage qu'il ne soit pas aussi connu en France entre lui et Voiceplay, parce qu'il le mérite.
Tu as tellement raison ! Sa voix est exceptionnelle, je l’adore que ce soit seul ou avec VoicePlay, il fait tellement de choses incroyables et pourtant j’ai l’impression que personne de mon entourage ne le connaît 😢
This has been soothing my broken heart this week after the loss of a pet. So glad to have had early access to it through patron because Geoff's voice always helps with my anxiety 🥺
I’m so happy that you finally caved in to our demands…uh…requests for this song and even ended up enjoying it yourself. I always knew your voice would be a perfect fit for this, especially where it sits in the whispery part of your low chest range. The drops give me chills and when the harmonies hit, I feel like I leave my body for a second. It’s so beautiful!
This.. this is.. I literally have no words. Geoff’s voice in this song is just - bliss. He’s honestly making love to the microphone with his voice and it’s just simply unbelievable, amazing, indescribable… you get the point. Geoff is just so incredibly talented. My mind is completely blown by this song. Literal CHILLS with every word!! I’m not sure how I missed its release, but it’s definitely going on repeat right now!!
My mind: Ok, LAST video for now Five seconds later: What?! Geoff covered Wicked Game?! So much for that.. You've seriously got a gift brother, thanks for sharing it with us
2:02 I don’t know what it is, but these harmonies seem so beautiful, sad, and soothing at the same time. The notes I hear are B, A, then a beautiful E.. sounds so great. Also at 2:29 , the harmonies gave me absolute goosebumps.. sounded so pretty
I have literally never been more moved by a performance in my life, than when watching this video. Geoff, I hope you see this. This is the most amazing cover of this song I have ever heard in my life. Also, your cover of Jack’s lament from the nightmare before Christmas had me in tears. You have the capacity to move peoples complete souls with your voice. You are amazing! I would love to hear you cover a Type O Negative song. Anesthesia or Wolf Moon if I had a top pick. Please consider this at some point! Thank you for sharing your AMAZING voice!
I absolutely love this song. I've found just about every recreation of this song youtube has to offer and yours brings a tear to my eyes like no other!!
I could feel my headphones vibrate against my ears with this one. Wicked indeed. And the CHORUS with the higher notes. HELLO?! That layering is incredible. Gorgeous.
This song is beautiful in your performance. Each note is like a soul touching a soul. When the last sound of the song fades away, I realize that love is inside us, not outside of us. Thank you. P. S. Sorry for the mistakes. English is not my native language.
This is another one like Phantom of the Opera. I love the original so much that I wasn't sure about how I felt. I had to forget the original and appreciate it as a different song and find things I liked rather than things I didn't. One thing remains true. I love Geoff's voice - especially in his mid range. It has such a sweetness to it.
I've loved this song for years and was one of those wistfully hoping for the Geoff treatment pretty much since day one of becoming a patron. Geoff, this is everything I hoped for and more. You've honored the heart of the original, while putting your own unique, lovely spin on it. The bts on Patreon shows it wasn't all easy times pulling this whole production together either! You and Kathy absolutely rock ❤️
Apart from your unspeakable musical and creative talent, you always manage to hit painful nerves and transfer feelings. It hurts and yet one listen to it again and again to find some kind of comfort in that very pain. You are valuable and important to people who feel their soul.
I love that his voice remains in the very low register the majority of the song. More opportunity to enjoy that husky quality. And it makes the octave jumps a crowning jewel by juxtaposition. This is truly outstanding.
Another cover that outshines the original artist's. 3:02 on he steals my heart and leaves me breathless. Makes me want to crawl into my TV and give him a big O'l hug!
Geoff is not playing games with this one! Wicked good! 🤩

The dude abides... THANKS!
I knew this was Angie who could really analyze this piece of music
Angie, thank you! You always come through with the theory.
I literally sat here with a metronome comparing Geoff's version to the original because I thought his was slower as well.
I also landed at about 112 bpm for both versions, and ended my train of thought with just a "huh".
But you come along and explain to me why I was hearing what I was hearing, and that's why I adore your musical breakdowns so much.
@@katthor7311 Thank you - what a kind thing to say!
Pretty impressive breakdown.
Been listening to you for years! Nobody…..and I mean NOBODY has the amazing, incredible range that you do!!❤🙏🏼✝️
When I first saw these four quad triplets sing together so harmonious I fell in love with them right away.
The game Geoff is playing with this song and video is truly wicked, and I'm sitting here both melting and with tears building up in my eyes 🎶🥺🥰❤
the talent in his lows crazy, just now discovering this artist i am impressed
J'adore toutes ses chansons. Il a une voix extraordinaire aussi bien dans les basses que dans les hauts. Je trouve juste dommage qu'il ne soit pas aussi connu en France entre lui et Voiceplay, parce qu'il le mérite.
Tu as tellement raison ! Sa voix est exceptionnelle, je l’adore que ce soit seul ou avec VoicePlay, il fait tellement de choses incroyables et pourtant j’ai l’impression que personne de mon entourage ne le connaît 😢
This has been soothing my broken heart this week after the loss of a pet. So glad to have had early access to it through patron because Geoff's voice always helps with my anxiety 🥺
This was absolutely worth the wait. Thanks, Geoff for deciding to sing this song.
“i would never call myself a true bass”
- geoff
Said Geoff in an E minus 7 speaking voice.
There's that lion's purr again! Absolutely mesmerizing! And the higher notes, as pure and crisp and flowing as a mountain spring!
It's like a thought then a whisper then a cry - So beautiful ..
Многие умеют петь "профессионально и технично", но Джефф поет сердцем. И за это я благодарна ему. 😊слушая, я становлюсь чуть лучше. 😊
This song sounds amazing with Geoff's gorgeous voice.. I love the simplicity of just him and the piano🥰
My mind: Ok, LAST video for now
Five seconds later: What?! Geoff covered Wicked Game?! So much for that..
You've seriously got a gift brother, thanks for sharing it with us
That was Boss Mode. You just dropped the melody an octave. Nothing more needed to be done. LOVED IT.
2:02 I don’t know what it is, but these harmonies seem so beautiful, sad, and soothing at the same time. The notes I hear are B, A, then a beautiful E.. sounds so great. Also at 2:29 , the harmonies gave me absolute goosebumps.. sounded so pretty
I don’t wanna I’ve fall in love either, but I have fallen in love with this man’s voice I tell ya. Everything he does draws me in♥️
I have literally never been more moved by a performance in my life, than when watching this video.
Дякую) Дуже чаруюче, заворожуюче виконання
Started tearing up due to emotions but happiness it’s a cover of the song I’ve been obsessed with for month since seeing the show
Sends shivers down my spine 🙂
I absolutely love this song. I've found just about every recreation of this song youtube has to offer and yours brings a tear to my eyes like no other!!
Джефф - это мой восторг! Непревзойденный талант... А красавец какой, осанка, волосы, плечи😊 Мечта! Спасибо вам, Джефф!
Definitely a song that sounds even better each time I hear it.
Excellently said
I love that his voice remains in the very low register the majority of the song. More opportunity to enjoy that husky quality. And it makes the octave jumps a crowning jewel by juxtaposition. This is truly outstanding.
Geoff's music is ALWAYS amazing! He NEVER disappoints. 😉
Это верно!
True that.
Another cover that outshines the original artist's. 3:02 on he steals my heart and leaves me breathless. Makes me want to crawl into my TV and give him a big O'l hug!
Just love his tone. So please lyrics to the ears and heart.
i thought no song would get me more addicted than 16 tons or constant sorrow...............geoff just made another one that added to that list
Whoa! I'm waiting until I stop shaking before I listen to this again. It shouldn't take more than an hour or two. That was intense!
Dragon purrs and those gorgeous harmonies! Love this!
