This was the first song she sang on the show. They all thought she was just a singer from a metal band. It's a surprise that she is Dutch and were not aware of her talent, it being a Dutch TV show. That's why they all look so surprised. Yes they do all sing either each others songs or songs they know the people they are singing to likes. Each episode is devoted to one of the singers and that singer just sits with the host, while the others take it in turns to sing them a song.
The Vilja Lied (Vilja Song) is from Die Lustige Witwe (The merry widow) by Franz Lehar. She is singing in german.
This one was the first performance at the show. Most of them were experiencing for first time watching Floor's performance, and their reaction was priceless.
Floor sang 6 individual songs and 2 duets. All of them sing a song to each other. It can be a song they did or a song that means a lot to them. This song was an arias that Henk's mother sang to him as a child. She was an opera singer too. That is why he was tearing up. I think it is this shows 12th year. All the songs they did in this show was really good. Floor sang in 4 different languages. They all put their touch on the song. Watch them you will enjoy it. Thanks again guys............. :-)

Vilja Lied Pronounce Vilja Leed is a aria from the opera Die Lustige Witwe or in English The Merry Widow, Henk's Mother Also a Opera singer sang this for him when he was a little boy, Floor only changed the song to a bit more Rock :)
Everybody's like..."Wait a minute, this is not metal singing...is operatic" !!! They didn't know her at all at that time and they all got stunned...!! That's because this was the opening song of the 2019 Beste Zangers season 12 TV show..!! Thank you guys, if you like check the rest of Floor's performances from that show, they're all amazing !!😊🤟

About Beste Zangers:
Beste Zangers is a show with seven Dutch singers. Each episode focuses on one of the singers, in this clip's case it was Henk's episode. The other singers then each take a turn to sing a song from Henk's reportoire or something Henk has a strong (emotional) connection with. All singers come from different backgrounds so they either sing the songs in their own style, or they try to get out of their comfort zone.
This clip is actually from the first episode and it's the first performance, so Floor was actually the opening act ;)

It's from the opera The Merry Widow, which is performed often by local opera groups around the world.
Almost correct 😉. It is pronounced as Veelya Leed. Lied means song, so it’s basically Vielja’s song. Yes, basically they sing each others songs, but not always literally. It can also be a song that has a special meaning to the singer. In This case Floor chose this aria since a) Henk is an opera singer, so it is definetely his reportoire, and b) his mother sang this aria to him when he was young, so it has a special meaning for him as well. Floor put a metal twist to the song, which is also a recurring element in the show, the singers are expected to make the songs their own. In this case Floor chose to add a bit of metal.
There is no competition and therefore no winner, it is all about sharing the love for music and each others company. Each week one of the singers is put in the center of attention, and the other singers take turns in singing a song to the singer in the spotlight. At the end of the episode the singer in the spotlight chooses the performance that moved him or her the most, but that’s the only competition alike element there is. The last episode is the duet episode where every singer gets to choose a duet partner and a song.
Vielja Lied was the very first song in the first episode, so this was the opening of the season! Floor put the bar high for the rest 🤣. The other singers even mentioned that, lol. The Phantom was the very last song of the last episode, so Floor both opened and closed the series.
I love all of the songs she sings in this program! They do take turns, singing songs that the others either wrote or are very fond off. This one is the episode when Henk gets sung to.
Beautiful song. It's in an old german language.
It's basically about a young man (royal member)and this girl, Vilja (fil-ya), and yeah it goes along, about their class distinction; and with this song she tells him what could happen if they where alone for privat and describes it in a nice package (if you understand what I mean😏).
It's funny for me, german is my native language and the old-german thesaurus is so funny xD

Have to add that while it is older, it is still very much New high German (Neuhochdeutsch). Middle high german is very different.
Old high german is even more different.

Apparently you are reading this as allegory. The translation in Wikipedia has it as an encounter between a hunter and a wood nymph (fairy) who gives him a kiss and "steals his heart."
Not that you are wrong, necessarily, but this seems like a stretch.
This song reminded me the old bloke on the couch (opera singer Henk Poort) about his mother, who was also a singer.
Good choice. Henke asked her to sing that. She sang that to him. There is a LOT of background info there, I don't feel competent to relate it. I do 'know' she holds Henke in high regard. See if you can find a whole show of Beste Zangers, it might be illuminating. It (again) 'think' she changed the song up to a more rock-like tempo, which was what a lot of the amused reactions were about. Thanks guys.

This was the 12th season of Beste Zangers. There are 7 singers all from different genres. Each week one singer sits on the couch and the other 6 sing songs written of performed or just ones that has someway influenced the sing they are paying tribute to. This was the first performance from the first show. This is why everyone was amazed to hear Floor, this heavy metal chick sing an opera aria for Henk Poort. Viljia lied (Viljias song in German) is from the opera "The Merry Widow" Henk's mother used to sing it to him when he was a child. Floor did about 7 or 8 songs on this show. All different types of songs, but adding a little of her style to each one. They are all brilliant. Good job boys!

It's so funny to see English speaking people having their best guess at the word 'Lied', like you guys did. It was totally wrong yet totally understandable because that's the way English speaking people pronounce 'lied'. The word however is german for 'song' and funny enough we Dutch use that same word. You pronounce it as in 'Leeds'. There is a small difference between the German and Dutch pronounciation where the Germans draw out the 'ee' sound somewhat longer than the Dutch.

Beste Zangers 2019 is the best show I saw last year.
Good reaction, I'm glad you're intrigued in the show. I'm sure you've been well informed by the Nightwish army about the set up of the program. Floor sang beautiful every single episode and really showed of her diversity in styles and epic talent, but I also love the song Strong by Emma Heesters in the same show. She sang it for Floor and it had loads of emotional impact on her. But also make sure to watch About Love I Don't Know A Thing and Mama by Floor. And of course Henk Poort's version of Sounds Of Silence. Have fun, keep up the great videos!
I still remember doubting myself, should I send you that message with recommendation to check out GLS or not, and I wondered if you're even gonna see it and reply.. And here we are today, you two are enjoying yourself with loads of Nightwish and Floor content exploring it on your own, I'm really happy for that.
Now I'd like to recommend something else as well, a band called Jinjer, with their live session of the song called Pisces. They are quite interesting, and very popular amongst reactors as well! A week ago I went to see them live in my country and they were amazing so I'd really like to see how you feel about them 😊

This was opening song in that season and last song was Phantom of the Opera. Most best order is look all Floor songs in time order. Cos then you can look other singers face "evolution". This first song surprised them all, cos what they knew from Floor before was she is tattooed metal vocalist. And what they got, this song! And how it was performed! Total surprise! Next song ("Mama", Dutch folk song/genre) they already know that she can sing, but they weren´t prepared what they got. Again! And so on, every song she will surprise everybody. Later they just wait, what Floor will give us next! And when is last song (Phantom), you can see their faces, they wait to get something really splendid and when they realize what is coming...
So, if looking in time order, you will get something extra to react. Not only Floor.
Very good decision to start with this song of Zangers 2019. Can’t wait to enjoy your reactions for the others songs of this show...

If you want to hear one of the other singers start with Emma singing a song written by Floor. She wrote this song about her mother who is Rheuma patient so very often she is in pain that she tries to hide from her children to not spoil the mood. Hey guys, great reaction once again. This show has been going on since 2009, so 10 yrs already. And as we speak the 21'st of december there has been a christmas special from "De Beste Zangers". It is all about 7 artists with every episode 1 in the hotseat and the other 6 are singing a song which means something for the person in the hotseat, could be his/her song or something to remember. The last episode is the fun one where they can form a duet of an own choice.

Hi guys, I subt about a month ago and I realy like your reactions. I have one small suggestion: try to make the sound of your voices as loud as the music. Now your voices are louder than the music, so I have to turn the volume down when you speak (I use head phones). Otherwise great reaction as always. 👍
Hi there 😀 many thanks for being part of our community. Unfortunately in the past we've had people complain they can't here us when we talk during the reaction so we made sure we was slightly louder. Hi HypeTrain guys, reading the comments i've already seen that pretty much everything has been answered by others, so i wont elaborate on what the show is about and whatnot.
What i do offer is something for everyone who loves the show, and wants to know/hear more from this show (previous seasons)
There is ofc Denise Hoffs who did upload this entire season and the full episodes, but many of her videos have been removed (copy right claims most likely) so that isnt going to help with finding videos of this or prior seasons.
But... Ice Rabbit uploaded every video from all seasons... as unlisted videos. (yes that works because unlisted on youtube, equates to not being on youtube for some reason)
