Ever notice that there are so many drum celebrities out there. But Dave is so rarely touted as a drummer's drummer. WHY IS THIS ?? He's one of the greatest drummers I've ever seen. He totally understands what DRUMMING is all about !!!!

This guy seriously made me want to go back to the woodshed at 50 and just reinvent everything about the way I play. I love everything here; the touch, the sound, the way Dave tunes, the composition itself. The only other live "band/combo" video I've seen is pretty much him and the organ player doing a set together somewhere.
For two instruments, they're just tearing it up. I'd love to hear some bass though. That's pretty much where the rubber hits the road in terms of understanding just how deep a player can go when they're supporting or driving some crazy counter-rhythm and melody.

I would be here all day praising Dave. He is first and foremost an awesome dude. I have been blessed to have gotten to play with him a bunch of times and he is so musical and adventurous. He has such a massive vocabulary and dexterity musically that it’s a joy to have a “conversation” with him. I like to call him the Bruce Lee of drums.

Okay, I have got to get a schedule for Drum Center before I go off my rocker. It's 20 minutes up the road and I am missing all these amazing drummers. Been following Dave for several years now and he never ceases to amaze me. Dude is a BEAST!!!

Had Dave as an instructor in college... What a wealth of knowledge he has, such a tasteful and solid drummer; one of the best drum labs I had ever taken. If you enjoy DiCenso's playing, you should listen to Hiromi Uehara (when he was playing with her). Don't get me wrong, Steve Smith and Simon Phillips are awesome drummers too, but I just enjoy Dave's playing better.
For me it's a tie between DiCenso and Valihora for the drummer most suited to Hiromi. I even think Valihora was slightly the best, during the Sonic Bloom days. But Definitely Dave and Martin head and shoulders above Steve and Simon, at least for Hiromi's music.

What amazes me is - you see ANYONE else executing ideas anywhere "similar" in complexity, and they are just sitting there like RIGID mannequins!! NOT Dave!! He performs and executes with such PASSION and Dynamic CONTROL (from finesse to slammin, etc) he NEVER sits still, he is FEELING the movement of the music and it transcends THROUGH him... always blows me away. Check out his videos on DRUMEO as well!! 🤘🏻🦁

Does anybody else here think this guy has a Colaiuta feel to him? Some of the playing here reminds me of Colaiuta's from "Five-Five-Five". I think this guy would have been great with Zappa. I bought his "Rhythm and Drumming Demystified" a while back ago and can hardly wait to take a crack at it.
vinnies technique , knowledge and skill set but he crushes vinnies feel IMHO. and i've wored with them both as a producer. daves in a league all his own. truly. .

I've noticed some drummers (i.e. Bruford, Beauford, DeCenso) grip their sticks very far back. With Bruford, I've always attributed it to having larger hands perhaps. What would be the reasoning one would grip the stick this far from the fulcrum?

Dave was using a coated Ambassador on the rack tom and coated Emperors on the floor toms.
