Thing is, dude isn't even playing to a metronome, he just has God level feeling for time. Bit that gets me every play through of this is that the drop of the tambourine on his stack is in time with him slapping it. Obviously he knows how it's going to fall, but he has zero control over it, he's just that in sync himself.
He actually explained how blowing or sucking air into/out of the porthole makes the drum sound deeper or higher at a gig. I think he played around with that a lot just how he does
I used to watch Buddy Rich and think "maybe I'm not so good... I need more practice..." In that time passed, Benny has made my life even more difficult. Now there are two drummers I will never be as good as
Holy Bump! He's on the short list of great technicians/teachers (how can anyone say Thomas Lang is better than Jojo Mayer is better than Stanton Moore is better than etc), but I wouldn't underestimate what serving songs and being on said songs means to being on a "Greatest" list. I couldn't tell you anything about the music Benny plays on. Being in a band that people are aware of matters.
Die Traurigkeit darüber, dass ich ein solches Niveau niemals erreichen werde, weicht der Freude darüber, dass es solch unglaubliche Musiker wie ihn gibt. Was dann bleibt ist die Inspiration. Danke dafür
@@MatthiasFrommann 16" sonor floor tom, I'm pretty sure it's a remo emperor on top and on the bottom an ambassador with some cotton touching the bottom head
Drummin' level: Benny Greb. I loved the reference to the brilliant Dennis Chambers with the deaccelerando - accelerando on the snare with the bass keeping up an even tempo.
Benny has the best groove, best dynamic, best technique and best musicality - partnered with the best sounding snare, kick, tom tom, floor tom and cymbals :) it's always amazing! It's the first time I see him reaching his own limits - amazing to see this and I admire the courage to play this! well done Benny.
Benny needs more mainstream recognition, like I’ve seen so much of this guy but every time I see or hear what he does I’m even more impressed, if I could only be a quarter as good as him I’ll be set for life
So Benny Greb have some of the most beautifully tuned drums Ive heard. The way his drums are tuned is what stood out to me the most when I first heard him play. Im typically more of maverick and do my own thing, rather than what other do. His drum tuning is so good, that I just had to tune my drums like him. Every drum set I have had since, Ive tuned as close to his sound as possible.
Met this guy at the Mastersession in Italy one month ago... Probably one of the best human being on this planet, and also one of those musicians who makes your stomach twists while they're playing. Thank you Benny for sharing with us this magic.
The only 21st century's drummer who's telling me a beautiful and amazing story when soloing ! He's a real musician, not just a drummer. Thank you Benny Greb.
no one can bend the feel and time quite like Benny Greb - he has this ability to change the gravitational pull of the time itself so that it isn't that it rushes or drags but time itself speeds and slows down while he remains perfectly in the middle
I'd say, it takes some damn balls doing that on stage. I mean, everybody knows kind of what's going on but you'll have to pull it off damn perfectly, especially in front of an audience full of drummers. :D
I dont think it's polyrhythmic. I guess he's completely doing going down and up tempos on his hand whilst doing a constant tempo on his feet. So impressive!!!
The man is so creative in his grooves and rhythm! What a friggin' talented player, listen to that single kick pedal and hat groove going on. Benny Greb, you're diamond bro! :D
Meine Fresse war das gut! Technisch herausragend, innovativ, musikalisch....
Total Boss! My Brain hurts at the subdivision with hands while grooving with the feet. He dont need a mostrar kit he is a legend with his stacks and awesome sounding drums
I wish I could see his right foot during the second half of the solo Amazing speed. Benny is always pushing the envelope with new sounds and ideas. A great musician

Психоделические скетчи I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this comment and went back to see what cat mode was 8)) I got a good chuckle out it. Thank you. Hahahah
That floor tom tone deserves a grammy.
And an Emmy.
I have Sonor drums and it is pretty easy to get this kind of depth from the floor toms. Absolute killer sound from Benny as usual!!
His limbs are so independent, I’m surprised one didn’t pack its bags, move out, and live a successful life during this solo. Good Lord this was insane
I wonder if metronomes practice to a Benny every day.
WINNING COMMENT
Keith Lee Agreed
This my be the coolest comment I've seen on youtube.
For Sure!
Thing is, dude isn't even playing to a metronome, he just has God level feeling for time.

When you love to drum so much, that you can't hold yourself back and start to make out with your tom in the middle of the solo.
He gives it a blowie
He really fucking likes his floor Tom aye
He actually explained how blowing or sucking air into/out of the porthole makes the drum sound deeper or higher at a gig. I think he played around with that a lot just how he does
Lol the audience didnt know how to react
This drum solo is the most Benny Greb drum solo.
not really, he used a ton of allusions in this lol
I used to watch Buddy Rich and think "maybe I'm not so good... I need more practice..." In that time passed, Benny has made my life even more difficult. Now there are two drummers I will never be as good as
Mattie Mclean what about Thomas Lang? Tony Royster Jr? George Kollias?
Samuel Habluetzel Have a real look at Mike Mitchell
fleagalisyourdaddy ooooh he’s rlly talented too :)
I've watched a lot of drummers lately, and I mean a lot, and I'm starting to believe that Benny is the best there is.
I agree , I love his style . Benny and Dave Weckl , who has got better with age are my Favourites ,oh wait ,Carter Beauford too.👍
Holy Bump! Wenn man es zumindest versucht hat, kann man am Ende trotzdem Stolz sein.
The tone of that floor tom makes orphans cry at night.
Druman19 Anyone knows size of Tom and drumheads used?
@@MatthiasFrommann 16" sonor floor tom, I'm pretty sure it's a remo emperor on top and on the bottom an ambassador with some cotton touching the bottom head
Druman19 it makes me cry at night as well
its making me cry right now
Mattia I don’t think he dampens it he just uses a coated bottom head tuned less than finger tight
Drummin' level: Benny Greb. I loved the reference to the brilliant Dennis Chambers with the deaccelerando - accelerando on the snare with the bass keeping up an even tempo.
Yep - it’s a nice tip of the hat!
Bass and Hihat pattern
him shaving his head unleashed a new beast
muhamed pampur it's the Brecker mantra, the less he had the more of a beast he was.
Jordan Johnson fair enough
He definitely pulls it off.
The opposite of Samson.
thats his final form. we will see his "ulti" when he shaves the beard.
one of the best videos i ever seen. you can tell benny has some serious hours behind the kit. Drums sound outrageously insane
Benny has the best groove, best dynamic, best technique and best musicality - partnered with the best sounding snare, kick, tom tom, floor tom and cymbals :) it's always amazing! 4:37 what a catch
Marco Bogataj followed by another stick flip, what a monster
Hes got so much groove even his stick drops are in time.
5:01 to the end , Dennis Chambers ‘ s solo idea. The big intro of Benny is amazing
There are no words to describe this solo...there are no words worthy enough.
So Benny Greb have some of the most beautifully tuned drums Ive heard. The way his drums are tuned is what stood out to me the most when I first heard him play. Thank you Benny Greb.
The kick drum and floor tom combo here is literally the best drum sound I've ever heard so much punch with just enough boom
no one can bend the feel and time quite like Benny Greb - he has this ability to change the gravitational pull of the time itself so that it isn't that it rushes or drags but time itself speeds and slows down while he remains perfectly in the middle
Unreal. This guy is a freak in every way the drumming community needs!! So creative.
It's like this drum solo represents me so much I can't explain in words.
Benny Greb is one of THE guys we've today
I’ve been waiting my whole life for this
01:55 This duuuude playing ghost notes with his fingers got my mind blown. Never seen that in my life.
4:54 - 6:01 what...?
I tried to do this after watching the video and it didn’t go as planned let me tell you.
I'd say, it takes some damn balls doing that on stage. I mean, everybody knows kind of what's going on but you'll have to pull it off damn perfectly, especially in front of an audience full of drummers. :D
Dallas Farmer That section is honestly one of the most impressive things I've ever seen a drummer do.
Dallas Farmer iii
Maintaining that kick + hi-hat groove constantly despite doing other stuff on the snare must be one of the hardest things ever. That coordination.
I dont think it's polyrhythmic. I guess he's completely doing going down and up tempos on his hand whilst doing a constant tempo on his feet. So impressive!!!
Now that's how you play (with) the drums! Thanks Benny for the inspiration - You are incredible!!
I dont know who on earth has such a tasty groove and timing and phrasing in solos. For me, there is no other drummer than Benny doing so.
This guy is one of the most independent, creative and tasty drummers around! Love it!
This gave me such a groovegasm
there's no way you didn't watch this twice in a row
thrice for me
5 for me
Lauty Bend only the good drummers will watch it multiple times. Studying obsessively
You guys need to see this solo with added music. If you haven't yet -> th-cam.com/video/iVNv9yb27MQ/w-d-xo.html

Lmfao nice bro
best comment ever my dude hahahah

I don't know how you can watch that and not be impressed. That was awesome.
One of the best sounding floor toms I've ever heard
Damnnn. How can you not just love his playing! So inspirational. I was fortunate to meet him a couple of years ago, too. Nicest guy on the planet!
What a great sounding drumkit! Sonor worldclass as Benny Greb!
The man is so creative in his grooves and rhythm! What a friggin' talented player, listen to that single kick pedal and hat groove going on. Benny Greb, you're diamond bro! :D
*People at meinl drum festival* :"Hey Benny....so what would be the genre of today's solo?!"
*Benny* : _Benny greb_
Very refreshing style always trying to find the missing link, feels like a journey to watch him grow as a drummer
Benny you are one of a kind! I love your style
utterly enjoyable technique and sense of groove AND... an improbably tuned floor tom. just so good
Drumming from the future. Simply incredible.
This needs more views. He does so much with this small set up its incredible!
Remarkable. Speechless, actually! One of the best solos I've EVER seen
Impeccable tuning and sound.

Always a joy to watch Benny lay it down.
The best solo that watch of Benny Greb!
I knew right away that he preferred that deep Tom Tom. Much love and appreciation to dude and everyone else who made this possible. Peace.
that snare sounds so clean, i just crank the volume and my house is spotless.
Absolutely captivating. Rank 1
so many styles all in one solo, pure class this man is
4:36 "Ninja mode: ON" oh, i love this dude.
that save. It was awesome
Absolutely unreal. I can only aspire to such groove.

Magnifical dear Benny ! (from Didier D'Agostino (French teacher at the "Bagshow Paris 2017 ) .friendhips !
Damn. Just damn. That was beautiful
This guy is inventive. Pushing the limits.
Man that kit sounds GREAT
Love the constant hi hat to remind you there's a metronome. I'm convinced he's the birth child of an expert jazz drummer and a busker.
Great performance - cool foot and hand technic. Fantastic independance
Even when he drops a stick it’s in time and sounds remarkable!!
Very good drum solo! Absolutely amazing!
Much love from a Filipino drummer!!!
5:00 Dennis Chambers reference? :D
This guy always delivers.
he is not the most precise nor the most technical, but when he plays he returns passion and emotions. I love his way of living the drum
Re delle Mucche You’re kidding right? Do you have any understanding of what he was doing?
Uhhhhhhh...... that was both extremely precise and technical......
Love the dry tones with open snare
Sou fã do Benny Greb...
Tomara que um dia venha para o Brasil. 🙏🎶🎉✨
Amazing solo... only dream of this!
3:24 "When bought a new floor tom"
hahahahaha !!! :D
I could listen to Benny for hours! His playing is eminent!
Your single paraddidle with continuous base and hihat is awesome
Great sounding kit!!!
Crazy musical drumming!
Total Boss!

Musical, witty, and of course, astonishing chops
Thousands of hours on the kit. I’m still stunned
The stand tom is so amazing!!! And the rest too xS
smooth ......... creative... self expression what you love best..... love it....
I wish I could see his right foot during the second half of the solo Amazing speed. Benny is always pushing the envelope with new sounds and ideas. A great musician
Yeah..they messed up not putting a camera on the floor aimed at his feet.
dude cracks me up. seriously so good
that floor tom is soooo glorious.
Bass drum, cymbals everything sounds unreal
Áron Ó Maoil Eoin dude, the floor tom.
holy flying cats that was possibly the best solo ive ever witnessed. this guy can do no wrong
Say what you want about Benny Greb but he has a style all his own.
Great drumsolo. I love it.
The best drum solo ever, Drum beat
amazing! So much depth .
Benny always plays with a sense of groove. Great!
So intricate is his technique, yet he makes no mistake...why...so amazing...
a nod 2 Dennis Chambers@4:57--:)
Dude yes... glad I'm not the only one who thought this.
