    I grew up around Dave in and around this time period. He's a one of a kind, musical genius behind the kit. These days his groove is deeper than the ocean. Just a special, special person and player.

    Been drumming since 1980 and pretty much know every single well known drummer, but this guy no one ever talked about. Came across that video on the pink kit and couldn't believe what I was seeing/hearing.

      Now kiss.
      But seriously, I don't even play drums and I've been watching all of these 'study the greats' vids. I really appreciate some good drumming; these explanations are good enough that even I understand it all (mostly), and that definitely adds to the appreciation. My favourite drum lick ever is the intro from 50 ways to leave your lover, so damn tasty.
      Keep making these videos and I'll keep watching! Cheers from England :)

    I love these exercises. Just a suggestion of what I do to facilitate some of these exercises is I start on a different section (last two notes) of the sticking pattern "loop," such as the 32nd note "flam" shown at 2:23. It seems to help speed up the pattern so I can hear the gestalt of the exercise.

    Man! I've been admiring dicenso long time ago and I think it's awesome that you made this lesson. Once again thank you for sharing. BTW I'm still here because I kinda like your sense of humor. I watch every video to learn but also hoping to laugh at the scenes after you fail at something

    Hey, Austin, awesome video as always. I'm curious as to why you picked that specific segment. I watched the video from Two Ton Shoe after seeing this and it seems like any portion of DiCenso's absolutely insane performance could be broken down into a very tight and creative display of technique, so why that lick specifically?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Like you said, with these kind of players, pretty much anything they play could be a lesson but I try to pick something that particularly stands out to me that I think I could make into a coherent lesson. Usually a pattern that is repeatable or part of their vocabulary instead of just something they were improvising in the moment. I dunno, I just watch these videos until I say to myself, mmm!... and then I try to isolate that part and figure it out haha

    • @michelaraujo4375
      @michelaraujo4375 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, man! Then i guess your choice of musicians is more based on technique, and importance to the drum world (hence: the greats), but the choice of the techniques themselves is more based on expression/feeling? A sort of unique playing that the drummers developed? Something like that, i imagine. The best explanation really is "something that makes me go HMMM!" hahaha

    So in the inverted one you're basically doing a six stroke in the front, right?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +tdrum21 Yes, but that six stroke roll in the beginning starts on the left hand so that makes it a little awkard to get into.

    The sticking you’re using while playing is way different than transcribed. The transcribed sheet is way too much to memorize not to mention triple hits with the R hand in the first phrasing. Perhaps the R - L sticking is not correct
