No kidding, I was shocked that he was willing to pay them to fix their own brand-new leaking part (though he had it for a long time). And then was “hoping” the new one wouldn’t leak through “no fault of theirs” (from the original video). What the hell, I don’t get this guy 😂.
Great job Jimmy. And its nice to see how you were able to do the installation in only 8 minutes. LOL Good to see that the company stood behind their product 100%.
Just started the video and laughed at how you said Redhead. My 1990 S10 definitely needs another steering gearbox. It's got a big area where the steering wheel turns, but not the actual wheels. IDK if I can trust junkyard units though. Would love an aftermarket one if they weren't on the pricey side, even if they're worth it.
I’d love to learn how to rebuild these things. I might head to a junkyard and get one to tear it down! I’ve seen a pretty good video here on TH-cam where a guy shows how to completely rebuild these things. 👍
That's some awesome customer service. Like you said that's how they should do it. Also with you making this video and such they'll get some more business for sure. Well done..
I went with redhead when redoing my suspension as all the research seemed that redhead was the top of the line and an upgrade from stock, two units later and hundreds down the drain i gave up and installed an OE acdelco unit and haven’t had a problem since.
Awesome. I have a bluehead steering pump on a 2005 Suburban 3/4 ton and love it. But that is good to know that Redhead stands by their warranty and actually came forward with the issue. Definitely will keep that in mind if I have any issues with mine and have need to switch.
Hey Jimmy Redhead is right down the road in Auburn, Wa listen avery sat morning to KVI Tom Turner on his radio show PST 6-9:00 am fixing cars on the Radio. got me a 1 ton 1998 Silverado with all the Problem you just Fixed C/K3500
You don't really learn anything about a company until there's a problem with one of their products. That's when the real story of the company comes out, the good companies do what's right by the customer. Those are the only companies that totally deserve their reputations.
Man I’d love to have a older Chevy with no rust!! That thing is in great shape. Have a 2003 Silverado with only 63k but live in the northeast and the rust is what takes the life of these things up here
Should have got a blue top steering box then you wouldn't be sending it back just after the warranty expires I love how they made you pay for shipping even though it was clearly defective from the manufacturer
how does it preform? more immediate response than stock or similar to the usual chevy slight lag response? i have a 96 tahoe 2wd and it has the typical steering response. not really bad but my works ford truck is immediate so i was thinking about an upgrade.
I’m not going to try to sell you on the gear but what I will say is this; as part of my entire front end rebuild, including all new upper and lower control arm bushings and ball joints and a completely brand new steering system (Kryptonite centerlink, tie rods and pitman arm and a new idler arm), I believe my truck steering and suspension feels as it would have when new. Definitely do your research with other reviews and such but I like the gear.
I have a 2014 Silverado which has two battery’s and one tested 100% and the other 33%. I’m going to replace the going bad but, I just don’t understand how one is fully charged battery and the other is not. New to this..
Was the steering any tighter, my box doesn’t leak but the steering has a lot of slack, I’m not sure if this would help that or if I should go with borgouson because the actually gear ratio is 12.7:1 instead of the stock 14 or 15:1? All the other components are tight
If its you're daily, this is a huge problem. Especially the free labor you have to provide to do the job twice. This is not a glass half full deal especially when you're going out of your way to go above and beyond on the part itself. If I found out they charged to repair, would be shame on them.
you had to pay for shipping to get the product to them and they thought about charging you for 1hr of labor. no thanks, i don't have trust in them and will go with local autozone and oreillys lifetime replacement parts.
Why wouldn't you just put it on the truck before you install and torque the pitman arm? It's not like it's going to be any lighter with it all on there?
Great question, this truck is a 4x4 and thus has a cross member (frame) completely in the way. The only space is for a thin wrench which I have coming and will hopefully be able to get some more torque on that. 👍🤙
I guess I am spoiled by my older squarebody K5 and the straight front axle, lol. I keep telling myself I would like a OBS Suburban but maybe I will just stick with a Square Burb, lol. Thanks Jimmy for the great content none-the-less!! @@1RoadGarage
@@danielhn93i pulled mine to change pitman arm for a lift, wish ida just put a new one in because its got so much slack :( i guess its not really that bad once u done it once, but it aint easy forsure
FYI, I just shelled out $3,000 to rebuild the front end on my 97 Yukon w/169,000 miles- KYB shocks, upper lower ball joints, pitman, idler arm, steering box, alignment, OUCH !
*I WOULD HAVE BEEN TEED-OFF* if a company sent me a new part that leaked out of the box. No way would I be willing to give them a dime $$$ , to get an exchange, and I'd also want them to pay for the shipping cost I'd incur to return the part, especially one as heavy as a steering gear. I'll bet they thought about crossing a guy with a TH-cam channel like yours 1ROAD. lol... The rest of us saps would probably have to go to war to get a solution. By-the-way, I appreciate the channel. I have the samr suburban, and I have plans to do a bunch of the repairs you've completed, especially being that this vehicle is climbing up in value!!!
They shouldn't have charged you anyways. There's zero excuse for that box to have been leaking so quickly. That's 100% on them.
yep, had to pay shipping on his dime too.

Glad it worked out. Because been thinking about getting that gearbox for my 98.
That good to know. All companies should stand behind their products. Can't wait to see what's next.
Glad to see old girl is back up on the road 5:38 jimmy nice work @1Road
Great to hear Redhead backing up their stuff. I am still with Lares these days though, with their limited lifetime warranty.
Just put a RedHead in my 93 E350 short bus and it's wonderfully rebuilt. They love their products they make and it shows!!!!
I enjoy your videos. It's just fun watching you do what I do for a living.

Nice looking truck.
I rebuilt my own steering gear. It was pretty simple. I believe mine is a 670 Delphi though. I put the rebuild on youtube.
I got rid of my rag joint as well

If I had to do all that work to fix a redhead gear box, I'd be upset. Redhead quality control failure. How many units had this problem?
I looked up reviews and seen a couple customers claiming the same problem (leaking cap)
Where do you take used oil? I have plenty to get rid of.
Automotive parts stores like Autozone, O’Reilly, advance auto

$70 is NOT a minimal charge. If I order something & it breaks quickly I expect a free replacement.
