That is the best how to video regarding the steering gear for this platform that I have ever seen! About to do the 3 turn redhead on my old 99 burb. This will be the third time changing the box over the past 20 years, but I definitely picked up a few awesome tips from your primer. The one I have in there now is super tight (...and it's an ACDelco)! I'm gonna throw out the doorman steering shaft and get the Cunningham as well! Thanks again for the great video!
Glad you liked the video, bud. Good luck on your install. Just a heads up, mine started to leak from the adjustment bolt. Red Head wouldn't respond to my emails on call me back so I went ahead and tightened down on the locknut and the leak stopped.
@bootstrapjesse I was just worried, because they draw a line to mark where the adjustment bolt was set and they include a note that says if you adjust the bolt the warranty is void.
TEXAS!!! 👍🤠🙂 I have the upper and lower Cunningham Machine shafts for my 1998 C1500. Great video by the way. Probably going with the Borgeson new steering gear. Did you consider that one?
I'll give it a "meh". It does have less slop than the factory box, but I barely notice the quick ratio for daily driving. Might be worth it for drifting, but not for me. Side note, I changed my oil this weekend and noticed a small drip coming from the top adjustment nut of the box. I sent red head an email and I'm waiting for their response tomorrow.
Just a note? Any return from Red Head email in consider of drops top of adjsutment nut of the box? Thank you, for any information you have!@@treyhaberman
@enriquemartinez16 No, they never called or emailed. I just put more on the locknut and she quit leaking. It moved the paint mark on the locknut though, so it probably voided the warranty doing that
@everage86 I would just use a regular box. Couldn't tell that much of a difference with a "Quick turn". I would probably try borgeson. I really like the quality of their shafts

So weird. Sounds like maybe someone just forgot to tighten it on the assembly line. Seems like you should have gotten a response from them though.

Great job sharing all the details!!!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome bud, hope it helped.
Thanks again. I'm learning. Suburban looks prestin.
Thanks man. Glad it helps
Thanks for the torque specs on description👍
No problem man, hope it helped.
@@treyhaberman yup, it sure did
Thank you for the video. In your opinion would a quick ratio be a little unsafe for a 2" lifted 2 door Tahoe?
@@69mustang No, it wouldn't be unsafe. I could barely tell the difference between the stock one.
@treyhaberman Thank you for the reply. I'm considering a Borgeson quick ratio for mine. My Tahoe is on 33" tires and a mild lift.
@69mustang yea I would try boregson too. If it's alot more for the quick ratio, I wouldn't bother. Not that big of a difference
Did your steering box not come with the nipple where you connect the steering shaft?
If you mean the shaft, then yes it did. I point at it at 11:10

Yes, I did. I went with borgeson on my 80 jeep cj5. It's been good.
How’s this mod working out for you? How’s the steering slop/play now?

@@treyhaberman Aww sorry to hear that. I guess I'll stay with my stock, sloppy setup :)

@@treyhaberman Just a quick question, Sir? Any response from Red Head on the drips from gearbox? Thank you kindly!

I have a pre airbag truck, 93, can I turn the steering wheel as much as I need to get it straight?
You should do all your steering wheel adjustments with your tie rods. Your horn will still have a breakable wire in the steering wheel.
Did you change the upper shaft part for less play??
No sir, the guys from Cunningham said its just a solid piece of steel and it's pretty much the same as the factory, so I kept it.
So knowing what you know now .Would you save the extra money and go with a new factory box or is the 1/4 turn worth it to justify price?
@everage86 I would just use a regular box. Couldn't tell that much of a difference with a "Quick turn". I would probably try borgeson. I really like the quality of their shafts
What wheels are those?
U.S. Mags Hustlers 20x8 front and 20x9.5 rear
@treyhaberman they look good bro 👍🏾
@Bluekbizzel_gaming thanks man. I'm loving them
@treyhaberman something like that would look good on the silverado.. been looking at different styles of wheels
@Bluekbizzel_gaming U.S. mags have been my favorite look. I also like their Bullet and Rambler wheel.
That's a ridiculous price for a steering box
I agree and did not get ridiculous performance out of it
