Dude great video I can't believe the only 200 views, you have giving awesome information. Best video I had see about Passat steering rack removal good job
Great video. Took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to remove from start to out. Only thing that would make this better is a list of torques for all the bolts. btw Pentosin CHF 11S can be hard to find and expensive. Amsoil's power steering fluid specifically states it is a replacement for VW Part #G004000M2.
Awesome Job and Video I might have to do this my steering is getting super loose and locks up turning left sometimes and stopping Oh s**t hang turn left to keep straight while getting wheel bounce like an F250 truck scary stuff
@@MattShaughnessy6 Actually, I need something real quick. On 10:25 you said: ''power steering mounting bolts''. You didn't show that on video, I hope so I will find it.
Hey bud. First off , Great video. Lots of info. I have a passat myself but its a 2012. I don't see any other videos but yours on replacement. but you are working on a 2002. N I think the 2012 has an electric rack and pinion. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time
I haven't researched it but CHF-7.1 is cheaper, it's compatible but they recommend not mixing the two. I wonder if the system was flushed out maybe CHF-7.1 would be a possible substitute. UPDATE: found a less expensive fluid ATP AT-224 Synthetic Power Steering Fluid, 32 fl. oz (CHF Compatible) Less than $14 per bottle.
You can get the bolts from other places than the dealer. I just would not go to the local hardware store for these things. There are a number of stores and websites that have the parts we need for our cars. Just pick your favorite store and look there to see if they have the OEM parts. There are sometimes more than one OEM brand for various cars. That helps in case there is a shortage of parts from one of the others then you can still get parts without having to wait or worse be without your car. I would not have used a bolt that should not be there just for the simple fact it might not be the right grade and not be as strong as the one that should have been in there. You don't want this thing coming apart at 70 MPH or more on the highway that can be really bad. I don't have any leaks or anything like that with my 2013 Passat is changing the rack on one of these similar to a 2004? I only wonder because these cars tend to have leaking problems when they get older. I know do not use ATF in that.
Hello,I whant the ask ,I whant to chengi my Volkswagen Passat b5 .5 road track end ,how to proceed when you are chengi ,how to adjust road track end by car ,you need to do everything perfect ,you can't tell me how proceed been chengi
Don't even know if it was duralast. They sold me some crap in a "Box" that was busted with zero markings/label.. I'm trying to get my labor claim from them as we speak. Had to pull a used one off from the yard, something that I don't like to do, but after TWO (2) rack and pinions from AutoZone... It made more sense besides the dealer wanting $1061.00 for the same part!!.. just might reinstall it myself.
Thank you for your easy to follow post and great video angles. Got mine successfully installed with your help! Much appreciated!
