No you cannot. IF you are a woman, you get disciple, if you are a man you get handmaiden. Unless there is a mod to change it, it's set in stone. I found handmaiden's story to be far more interesting than disciple. Typical, they always give male characters the better stuff.
You get the handmaiden only when your main character's a male.

i dont think you can. But i made her a jedi and for some reason she still talks to me. And i completed this game.
