I actually thought everyone HATING the Red Skull WAS cannon. I mean, it literally transcends time and space. Even The Joker, Clown Prince of Crime, mass murderer, insane lunatic and arch villain of batman, upon figuring out the red skull was not delusional, but an actual Nazi, went completely of the handle. "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I am an AMERICAN criminal lunatic." Even one of the most despicable villains in DC and all of comics, HATES the Red Skull.

In the comics Magneto captured the Red Skull and kept him in a place where no one would find him with no food and limited water.
And in a DC crossover The Joker refused to work with Red Skull after discovering he was an actual Nazi

For those curious about the name thing, Max Eisenhardt is indeed Magneto's real name, according to the 2008 "Magneto: Testament" storyline. However, after escaping Auschwitz and marrying his childhood sweetheart, a Romani girl named Magda, he decided to forge a new identity for himself as Erik Magnus Lehnsherr to more easily live among the Romani people.
If you're wondering why the movies treated Erik Lehnsherr as his real name... well, like I said, Magneto: Testament came out in 2008. When the first X-Men movie came out in 2000, Erik Lehnsherr was the only "real name" he had in the comics. Though strangely enough, the fact that Erik Lehnsherr was not his real name was first revealed in February 1998, so they probably knew it was an alias, but still decided to run with it as they didn't have another option.

Just in case anyone doesn’t know: everything (including water and wood etc) is effected by magnetism just not by magnets you’ve probably seen by much as they are quite weak but they still effect them, this means if magneto (someone who effected a bit of metal light years away) could definitely control them too

One of the things that i didn't know about Erik Lensherr (i prefer his old name i think it translates to feudal lord) is he was a Sonderkommando. if you don't know what it was almost all of the labor done at those camps was done by the prisoners including the crematoria. most were executed after 3 months for security reasons some were more valuable and lived longer. for similar secrecy reasons the Sonderkommando where kept in separate accommodations and allowed to keep some of the goods brought in by the dead they transported stripped searched burned and disposed of. don't have more to add than that.
He can control one of the 4 fundamental forces of the universe and the strongest one at a distance. It's not just messing with metal.

It always bothered me that "he has total control over magnetic forces," which are literally everywhere, but he's pretty much limited to metal.
Thats Not entirely true actully.
A strong enough magnetic feild can pull elements like hydrogen and helium and super heat them to a state of plasma (100 million degrees f°)which is 1 part of how nuculer fision will soon be achieved.
Edit: rereading the OP post now i think what i explained is part of what bugged him , the fact he could control more then metal if he focused his power better somehow.

Idk if any writer has written this, but induction heating is done by quickly alternating the polarity of magnets. Theoretically being able to manufacture unlimited heat
I like to believe that Magneto's maximum power are that of a manetar, which could perform all these feats and more. Magnetars are one of the most interesting celestial bodies.

To be fair about those points about Toad and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, that was very early magneto who was horribly written and one dimensional, all he was missing was a mustache to twirl. Magneto wasn't given any motivations beyond "He's evil and wants to rule the world because he's evil" until much later.
If Magneto and Dr. Doom ever teamed up, there wouldn't be a way to oppose them.
Worse, Dr. Doom can possess people.

As much as I love the MCU, I've always been a comics X-men fan and Magneto's easily one of my favorite characters. He's powers are also extremely cool.

Magneto could possibly generate wormholes by creating a black hole at his location and one at his destination(because he can use his powers at light years) then draw the two points together. Like using two pens to draw a straight line starting at the ends and joining the tips in the middle.

I hated how Marvel retconned his name to
Max Eisenhardt. I greatly prefer his original name Erik Lehnsherr. I don’t know why they changed his name but it is what is. Magneto is definitely one of my favorite Marvel characters. I love how there’s so much to his entire character. Magneto can be a villain or a hero depending on the situation and circumstances. Not too mention how utterly powerful and Badass he is.
Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of magnetism know how powerful he is. To say the least he can just use magnetism to stop the electrical signals that make your hart beat or shut down your brain.
I don't think you've covered a comic character who wasn't "one of the strongest entities in the entire universe"
weird theory. the metal bismuth exhibits reverse magnetic effects (when a magnet gets close, it gets pushed away) so if you were to fire a bismuth bullet at magneto would he be able to recognize that he needs to impart the reverse effect of stopping a normal bullet before it hit him? since he has to basically form a magnetic field behind a bullet to stop it, doing so would only accelerate the bullet further.

Erik Lensherr was a fake identity that Magneto got a master forger to create for him.
Can’t remember why he got it made, but in one of the X Men comics, Magneto goes and kills the forger (Georg Odekirk), because the identity was traceable back to Magneto’s actual “proper” birth identity.
All this can be stopped by a wood gun, wait every thing can be effected by magnetic fields even wood guns if field is strong enough. And a point missed is quick silver and Scarlett witch has been known as his kids.

One of my favourite panels on the x-men was one were Quentin Quire is wearing a shirt that says "Magneto was left"
I remember reading a Wolverine solo story in which the protagonist went up against an old World War II Nazi cyborg. After Logan won and was about to take out the bad guy (I think) SHIELD stepped in as the cyborg had diplomatic immunity or had "vital information" or some such bollocks that saved him justice.
Logan's allies are all "What? He's just going to get away with it?!?" but Wolverine just goes "I'm going to make a phone call"
At the end of the comic, The Nazi Cyborg is smugly going through an airport, when something bumps into his foot. He bend down and finds a small toy robot. As he stands back up, Magneto (dressed in a black suit and hat, much like his first shot as an adult in the first X-Men film) is revealed to be standing behind him. After greeting the cyborg with a smile, Magneto escorts him off-frame and we focus on the toy robot. Which is now being dismantled by unseen forces, piece by piece.
Recently Magneto was just hanging out on the S.W.O.R.D. satellite while transporting it through space because his method was faster than the boosters on the satellite.
Magneto was also the last superhuman standing in the original Marvel Zombies.

Fun fact: Changes in magnetic fields propagate at the speed of light. Light being an electromagnetic wave, after all. So in order for Magneto to effect something a light year away, it would take a year for him to actually interact with it. Either that or Magneto's powers are faster than light. Which opens up the possibility of paradoxes due to the fact that time is relative and all that. Basically what I trying to say is that scientifically speaking, marvel is nonsense.
There is up to 4g of iron in a person's blood. Very light for a bullet - half the weight of a 357 - but if you can decide exactly it's location before having it spread everywhere.... Magneto is a monster! Also - Shout out for the tribe! wreck 'em!

I'm a huge xmen fan and magneto is my absolute favourite. And you did justice by him.
Just wonna add (because I'm a piece of shit and cant help myself) that Magneto doesn't use his armour to fly he rides the electromagnetic waves in the air, not unlike storm who uses the wind to fly. He can also manipulate the electromagnetic forces in the air to make a impenetrable force field(which you covered) to fly and he can actually fly unaided through space in that bubble.
He can also use that electromagnetic energy in the air to fire electromagnetic forces of lightning at people. That's also why he can lift and throw people without metal on them because he uses the electromagnetic fields in the air and weaponizes it.
