    Awesome sharing and a glimpse into film making... Now does the video gone through any filtering or post editing software..Cos the "feel" and colors on the vid looks amazing.

    • @AlexPerri

      Glad you enjoyed it! Yes it definitely all comes together in the color grade. I used Phantom LUTs to go from SLOG3 to REC709, then did some basic color corrections and exposure correction, then finished it off by adding a film look with the Dehancer plugin. I absolutely love the way the Dehancer plugin makes my projects look.

  • @joshuaaruiz

    man ill be looking forward to that color grade! this was amazing, thanks for sharing!

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Joshua! I'm hoping to do a couple of breakdowns for the color grade soon. I'm really happy with the main color grade so will definitely be talking about that but I might do a separate video on my day for night process. All the night shots were shot while it was still basically day time, or at least light enough outside.

    Amazing Alex! I really loved the colours, I recently bought a fx30 ,could you you please help me with the "LUT" you have used and what mic you used for out door shoots. One last thing where can I watch the shortfilm?

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much man! I'll be doing a proper breakdown of the color grade soon, so look out for that, but I started out with the Neutral LUT from Phantom LUTs and built the look from there. I also used Dehancer to round out the look. For my mic, I use the Rode VideoMicro for my BTS cam and the Sennheiser MKE 600 for my productions. As for when and where to watch the short film, I will be releasing it on the channel here within the next month or so. I've submitted the film to a couple of festivals so just waiting to hear back but if nothing comes of them it will be releasing online sometime later in October. Stay tuned!!

    what camera was used during bts? loved the colors and the mood. The halation is just incredible.

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sony A6300. I've had that camera for a very long time now and although it definitely has it's limitations, it still produces beautiful videos. But that's not why it looked the way you described. I had a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter on the lens, which was a Sigma 16mm f/1.6 lens, and I color graded using Phantom LUTs and the Dehancer plugin to give it the film like look.

  • @JirehTorres

    I thought these lenses are for S35? It covers the fx3 sensor?

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are for S35. I used the clear image zoom feature on my FX3 to crop in a bit when filming. Worked surprisingly well, although I still did get a bit of vignetting. But I kinda like what it added to my footage!

      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So glad to hear that Gustavo! Yea these lenses really surprised me. When u use these s35 lens in FF such as FX3, do u use s35 mode in camera or crop it in post?

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually used clear image zoom to zoom in a bit in camera. I haven't looked into it enough but apparently Sony's algorithms are doing something to the footage to make it look better when zooming in this way versus just cropping in post, but I have no idea if this is true or not.

  • @sloppysteaks
    @sloppysteaks ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you use clear image zoom on the FX3 to kill the vignette? These are S35 lenses so the image circle is too small for full frame.

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep you got it. Now was I consistent with how I used clear image zoom? Definitely not, I just completely winged it. A lot of my shots still have vignetting but a useable amount I’d say.

    I'm just curious as I had mixed experiences with these lenses so far. I am using the sony A7SIII & the A1 - so very similar sensors as the fx3. For me the best handheld results have been with Steadyshot set to active and a clear image zoome of 1.5 across all three lenses. However I still do get a little bit of these digital wobbles on my footage. What are your experiences here? What set up in terms of steadyshot and clear image zoom did you use on this shoot?

  • @deborahfournier7640

    I'm confused as to which lens to buy as I can only afford one unfortunately. I shoot videos and closeups of my cats and horses and also do a lot of garden photography. Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I only have another 10 days to get the sale price!

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what camera you're shooting on, but I always suggest a 35mm if you can only go with one. It can get you a decently wide field of view if you need it, but can still be great for medium and close up shots. Hope that helps!

      @@AlexPerri Thanks! The Nikon that I want this lens for is an F-mou t so sadly it won't work with these. I also have a Canon with a fixed lens (unfortunately) or I'd get some of these lenses for it. And it won't work on my old Ricoh either....all the rest of my cameras are fixed lenses. ☹

    The colors in the short film are beautiful and look extremely well graded. How did you go about achieving the look? Did you have a certain on camera lut for monitoring during production to help you establish the final look? Can’t wait to see the final product!!

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man, glad you like it! I started with converting from SLOG3 to REC709 using a LUT from the Phantom LUTs collection. I typically have this LUT installed on my FX3 like you said for monitoring during production. It's definitely a great starting point but I usually determine the final look entirely in post. Then after some color correction and exposure correction, I use the Dehancer plugin to emulate the film look. I add some film grain, halation and blooming, as well as choose a film stock and add a few other effects to achieve the overall look I ended up with. I'm gonna do a breakdown video on that soon so check back for that. Looking forward to sharing the full short with you!

    'No budget'........... Pull out 30k of equipment lol

      LOL well I mean this is gear I've built up to over the years doing paid work but I didn't really pay for much else other than the location and some props. I didn't hire any other crew, which is typically costly, and the actress is a friend so she joined the production as a passion project for her. Something like this could've easily added up to tens of thousands of dollars after the gear I already had, so it really is a no budget short film. You obviously need a camera, a lens and some lights to make a film of any kind, but you didn't need the FX3 to pull this off. I really could've gotten away with using one lens for the whole thing, and I used natural light for most of the shots. SOOOOO in the grand scheme of things, I still think this is what people in the industry would consider a no budget short film.

      If you rent the equipment he had you would probably pay 500-1000$ max. So it’s still super cheap if you want to shoot a project. And also by far not 30k equipment.

      In case you don't check out that link, the representative from SIRUI says "It is soo-rei. I know it's si-roo-ee when you spell it, but in reality it's soo-rei. And it actually means sage or wise person, so, when you buy a soo-rei, you are a wise person."

    Wow just wow!!! Sorry man, not really… This started out as a different kind of “lens review”, but you never mentioned much about any of the lenses characteristics like flaring, distortion, bokeh, ease of use, color matching… in concept your idea is awesome, but….you simply forgot to tell us more about the lenses!!! While we saw some shots, it would have been nice to see a 60 second clip or two. So yeah, no….thumbs down on this one as far as any kind of Lens review.

    Short films are a waste of time, they go nowhere and just shows that u cant or dont have the creativity or capacity to make a full length film with a real plot. Also noone buys or pays for short films so where is the profit in all that work ???

    • @AlexPerri
      @AlexPerri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That has to be one of the worst takes I’ve heard in a while. There’s just so much wrong with all of it.

    • @Csnumber1
      @Csnumber1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment is so ignorant it’s laughable. Short films are the crux in which filmmakers,
      Editors and actors can most definitely get noticed. There is an entire short film category at the Oscars…you did know that didn’t you!? And as far as short film makers not capable of making a feature film…we’ll, again….I’m laughing!!!

      LOL completely agree with you on that. Really not sure how someone can have that kind of opinion on short films. But anyway, if you're interested in watching the short film, you can check it out here th-cam.com/video/SyPClgnA4zs/w-d-xo.html@@Csnumber1
