1961 Ferrari 250 California: A Drop-Top Espresso Shot

  • The Ferrari 250-pick just about any version-was the ultimate 1960s grand touring car and it was introduced to the world before that decade had even begun. More than half a century later its genetic code is still identifiable in today’s top sports coupes, but for this edition of Morning Coffee we’ve ditched the roof for a blast around Britain’s B-roads in a rare open-headlight version of the series II California Spyder. With a Tipo 168 3.0L V12 planted below the sultry length of the hood, four-wheel disc brakes, a shorter wheelbase and a wider track than its predecessor, later Sypders like this one owned by Hexagon Classics’ Paul Michaels offer the strongest cocktail of classic front-engined Ferrari performance and Italian coachbuilt style from the house of Scaglietti. If you’ve had your espresso already, here’s the second shot.

    i get the emotion you're trying to convey with music, but i would love a minute of uninterrupted engine sound. it's a symphony in itself.

    • @davidcharlesiannotti3800
      @davidcharlesiannotti3800 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was thinking the exact same thing. That V12 engine is a symphony itself, and doesn't need any background noise (music).

    Back in 1984 when I was sixteen my friend and I walked into a classic sports car shop in Portland and they had this very car. The owner couldn’t have been nicer and let us sit in the drivers seat. That was a fun day!!

    ''Imagine. You as a young teenager sitting on sidewalk in front of your house. the only family in the street who owns a car is the dentist, a beige Beetle. the only cars you saw today were two Opel rekord P2, a Citroen 2CV and a Volvo 544. Then, a rumble is heard in the distance. You see a red dot appear that moves fast and it's coming your way. A Ferrari 250 GT 2+2 flies over the cobble stones, passing your house with unknown speeds you ever witness. The only thing that was more thrilling, was the ending of the World war 2, 15 years ago.''
    ... I wish I had these moments in my life.

      Actually i think @firebird188 is a great story teller.....and thats exactly what the mood would have been. We all know someone who was in the war......that made the 50's and 60's post war (mini renaissance) so special.....I grew up in France.....and in little rural towns.....not much has changed! Although you're more likely to see an Alpine, R5 Gt Turbo or Citroen Deesse than a 250Gtb....Thanks for the Nostaligic moment firebird!

    • @stevenswm9844
      @stevenswm9844 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      firebird188 That's a beautiful visual! Although now, some 58 years later, if that same red dot rumbling in the distance turned out to be a 250 GT 2+2 as it passed by, I think that very same thrill would rise up inside of me, even being the much older man that I am today! To me, the thrill that car induces is Timeless!

    good grief people, shut up. The video was absolutely beautiful. The music was fantastic, and you can still hear the timeless growl of the car as well. If you want a video of only engine/exhaust noise, there are plenty of those out there - this isn't one of them. Just respect it for what it is and stop complaining.

    To everyone pissing and moaning about the music, are you not getting the whole "Morning Coffee" thing? Or that on this channel there are different styles, or themes, of videos, and those styles are identified in the title? Maybe try this. In the morning, before you're really awake, sit down with your first cuppa and turn up the volume and watch it again. It will wake you up. That may have been their goal, strident music and amazing mechanical sounds along with gorgeous video can't help but kick start one's day. So quit with the griping about the music.

      Al Terego please get off your high horse. Please don't read the comments if you have thin skin and everything offends you. The comments are legitimate. Some people don't get the opportunity to listen to the sound of a classic Ferrari. They wanted to hear more of a car they may never see. I see them in events all the time. But it doesn't mean I don't respect those who haven't, and want to hear the music these beautiful machines make.

    You probably have read it in previous comment sections The sound mix should lower the violin sound. Need to hear more of that glorious engine sound. Cinematography just delicious. Great lighting job. bang on boys.

    Loud dramatic music overwhelms. It's a car. A nice car. A very nice car. A very, very nice car. A very, very, very nice car. A very, very, very, very, nice car...............................................

    Just once I'd like to watch a video of the California without background music drowning out the V12. Just a straight in-car video without any cut scenes and no music. Just the sound of the V12 going through the gears to entertain.

    If we could of seen and heard a little more of the car driving , would of been perfect 👌
