    The temperature dial being referred to goes to just the top vents and it’s so you can control the upper and lower zone independently 👍

      they usually dont work if the plastic grip thing round the metal pole on the floor is missing/incorrectly placed (sorry that doesnt sound very helpful but if you own one you will know what i mean).

    The temperature wheel is for the face level only , I'm surprised you don't know this , when you have the heating on but still want cool air to you're face , you move it to blue , many cars never had this feature.

    Actually conventionally BMW lock and window buttons were in the center. I believe this changed after 2006. Also the fine tuning feature existed long before this model. I've owned 2 BMW E36 models and I found this slider very helpful. Great video great car

    4 - when your car is cold, it won’t allow to blow cold air into the cabin if it is on the red area, it’s very usefull in countries like Poland, Germany. There are big temperature fluctuations and cold winters

      the only explanation that actually made sense and that's mad useful tf

  • @TopSecretForzaClub
    @TopSecretForzaClub 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Captain here. You are wrong about the temperature adjusting. Its separate air temp for your face/breathing. Climate controls the overall room temp. For example: in cold winter weather you want hot air for your feet and body, but not so hot air into your face. Also some people are really sensitive when it comes to dry hot air blowing into your face/nose/lips.

    What is the doug score?

  • @sincityrrt301
    @sincityrrt301 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The knob is not for temp, it works with the auto climate control. You set a temp as normal with the primary control, the knob controls the intensity of the heat or coolness from
    The upper vents. You’ll still be able to maintain whatever temp you’ve set, but not have either too cold or too hot air blowing at your face. It’s amazing and that’s why bmw won’t get rid of it although not many owners know or appreciate it.

  • @sincityrrt301
    @sincityrrt301 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The center dial for the climate near the unlock button is for the intensity of the temperature. so the main temp dials are set to a desired temp and the auto system will control fan speed, the center dial will control the intensity. so if you want a pre set temp but you dont want really cold/ or hot or blowing at you.

  • @sarajanehaven
    @sarajanehaven 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What I've found is that the seat belt assists work perfectly in the winter when the belts are stiff and almost never work in the heat of summer when the belts are limp so starching in summer makes sense but I can't be bothered. You didn't mention the warmer toggle switch for the 'supposed' cup holder in the center console under the arm rest. Now there's a 'what were they thinking' feature!

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sara Jane Haven i didnt even kno about the cupholder switch! Where is that located?

    • @sarajanehaven
      @sarajanehaven 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      See page 107 of owner's manual. Its a rectangular off/on slide switch in front of the cup holder (called storage compartment). Says the temp is controlled by the wheel that controls the temp in the rear of the car.

    Just to provide some perspective; I have an e90 and I love the climate control, I think it's one of the best parts of the car. I work with cars and many people don't just press the AUTO button on the climate. So right now in NY winter I have it on auto, both temps set to 72-75 depending how cold, and the seat heaters on, lovely and toasty after a few minutes.
    Now what that red/blue knob in the center does let you adjust the temp of the air blowing in your face, so you have heat rising from the floors, seat heat, and cool air hitting your face. it's very nice :D

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Ahmadi Ahhh, that makes a lot of sense actually! I love the climate system too its really nice, i was just confused about the knob! Thanks man!

  • @brandonedwards7166
    @brandonedwards7166 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm pretty sure the temperature control is for the back seat. The driver and passenger can select their temp but usually having back seat passengers the center vents are directed to the back.

  • @AlexNZL
    @AlexNZL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I removed the fuse for the seatbelt extenders. I was alway worried that someone would break one off. I also switched my paddles so that the left one downshifts.

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      AlexNZL You can do that for the paddles? I never knew that, is that like a flash software?

    • @AlexNZL
      @AlexNZL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simply Car Things no it's a hardware change. the plug for the paddle has 3 wires centre one is common the 2 outside ones are push and pull. you just switch the 2 outside wires. it's about a 15 min job if that.

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @chasecrallie2557
    @chasecrallie2557 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actully the heat/ac nob is to adjust the heat coming out of the upper vents, so say your feet are cold and your face is hot you can put colder air to your face and hot air to your feet, pretty nice if you ask me

  • @tuckerdow9288
    @tuckerdow9288 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I could be wrong, but I was told that the temperature dial is for the dash vents. You can adjust them to blow cooler air on your face to keep you alert on long drives or at night etc... but who know ha.

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tucker Dow Yea thats what others seem to be saying, its funny how BMW never really gave an official explanation for it! Haha but that seems to make sense

    • @benben20
      @benben20 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read on the manual that the dial is supposed to keep either side (the passenger side or the drivers side) at a certain temperature just by simply moving the dial to cooler or hotter. Correct me if I am wrong?

  • @mxracingunlimitedltd7784

    I coded my car to disable the "Seat Belt Butlers"... As BMW officially calls them haha. It's just kind of a useless feature for me and plus it's somewhat noisy (noisey?), when the inside of the car is quiet. I think I can handle grabbing the seat belt on my own. And yes I do know about the seat belt butler "grab fix"
    As far as the paddle shifters, idk what BMW was thinking in the Pre-LCI's. Stupid design for the way you have to upshift/downshift... Now I have a 6MT 335i Coupe (E92), so this is rly an issue for me, but my brothers 2006 BMW 530Xi (E60) is an auto. It has the same transmission as a 328Xi I believe... either that or the same as the 335xi drivetrain..
    But he has the Pre-LCI paddles and they're basically useless.
    I've drive a lot of E9X's by I do a lot of work on customers BMW's so I get to see the differences between the different years, engines, and configurations.
    The E90 LCI are soooo much better than the paddles you have on your car in this video. They do exactly what you would expect them to do. You can only pull them towards you, you get a nice high quality click feel each time, and the Left Paddle when pulled will downshift, and the right paddle when pulled towards you, the car upshifts. This coupled with the Alpina TCU flash I've done on many cars! (N54 & N55's... As well as 335i's and 335Xi's)..
    If you think your current paddles are good quality get some OEM LCI paddles or OEM M3 DCT paddles. Just remember to do your research and make sure the correct steering wheel is being used or they won't bolt up properly. And always disconnect the battery before removing the air bad or steering wheel at all...
    My next point is, I see a lot of people complaining about the cup holders. If you keep the cup holders clean and not sticky with spilled drinks and crap, they will work great for years, and they actually work great for me. It can hold anything from a small 8oz Red Bull to a big bottle sized "Core" Brand water (water in a bigg container).. The drinks never spill on, even when doing some hard launches and shifting lol. And that includes an open can of seltzer, or something similar that would spill easily.
    Just for clarification, I have Pre-LCI cup holders (no aluminum piece in center when pushed in), which are "supposed to be revised"... maybe I just got lucky, but the original cup holders are still in the car (2007) and I'm the 2nd owner after the original owner.
    Also since I already typed so much, I figured I'd address the climate temp slider. This is for controlling the temp of the specific vent that the control slider is attached too. Therefore, if you want super hot heat on your feet, but the hot air is bothering your eyes, you can still keep the heat on and not get b,asked in the face with hot air. The adjustmen temperature slider is electrically connected to the HVAC control unit (IHKA) and changes the air temp & distribution based on this when in Auto Mode.
    Also worth noting is there is one more of these, for the rear seat A/C & Heating HVAC system. So to basically have dual zone climate control (front to rear), the rear passenger can for example, turn the heat down slightly in the rear by spinning the temperature slider slightly, this will lower the temperature of the air being blown into the back, and there's also a fan slider as well, to control the air blowing intensity to the rear seats.
    This can all be done without having to affect the front dual zone climate control, and still be able to have a decent amount of temp control in the rear without having to ask the driver to change the main HVAC settings. The rear climate control can be completely disabled as well by moving the fan speed controller to "0."
    I will agree with you, as will many others, that the car should of came with a physical oil dipstick, not even just for oil level checking, but to also get to to see how the oil looks in color.. This would be very useful.
    All in all, great vid. I enjoyed watching it! If you need any coding/remote coding done. Shoot me a msg. I'm always willing to help out a fellow E90post/ E90 driver!!!
    Anthony

      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow thanks for all your insight! I read it all and I already feel so much more knowledgeable haha! Yea I should upgrade my paddles to the LCI ones someday, but its not a big deal for now. And same here, my cupholders are nice, havent had any issues w/them, I just think they are kind of flimsy lol. Do you know how much a reasonable mechanic would charge for a valve cover gasket replacement? Mine currently needs the VCG replaced and I dont want to do it myself because its quite extensive nor do I have the time to perform it. If you could let me know that would be awesome. Thanks again!

    Plastic impeller on the waterpump would be my biggest quirk, wtf. Those seatbelt butlers are annoying, I remember those things on a 500SEC Merc I drove a while back, they were a block long lol. Good for seniors though. Those paddle shifters are neat and all but ya really should have the stickshift, it's (traditionally anyway) one of the best parts of any BMW, they're really anodyne and soulless without it IMO. Climate Control? First thing I turn off in any BMW, weather permitting, I hate having it suck power, besides A/C makes me sneeze. Good vid bud, I hope you don't end up with the curse of all kraut kars and 335's in particular: the dreaded Christmas Tree Dash.

    It's extremely rare for a BMW not to have the lock/unlock button centrally located. It's just something they've always done. I've always suspected that it's to prevent you from locking your doors as you're leaving your car without your keys, decreasing the chances of you locking them in your car.

    • @SimplyCarThings

    that temperasure is not to fine tune temperature.. it allows you to out cold air through air vents pointing to your face so you can have cool face and women legs or what ever. it's because some people don't like warm air in face makes drowsey

    Nice vid man, I just picked up my 335xi this week and Im so glad I'm not the only one who has that seatbelt handle issue haha. Do you have any small tips on how to take care of the car better? I'm not the most mechanically inclined person. And also what do you think about an eBay front m sport lip?

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blob Eye Sti Congrats on your car man! And as far as tips, I would buy a code reader and have it handy in case you get an SES light, and do routine maintenance whenever it needs to be done! As far as the lip, I think it would be cool just make sure its not crap material and fits right!

    4:30 it so you dont die. in spring for example, you put 27* and it blows at your face, na na, thats why you put it on colder, so it does 20* at face 27* at feet

    I know for the 4.8l v8 in the 550i they all said there's no distill but then the told me it did and showed me at the dealer. Some engines were used in cars without idrive so they still have to be used without it.

    I'm looking to get this car in the next few months as a vehicle to drive to college and work how much money does it cost per month to drive the vehicle as far as things like gas , insurance and maintenance, and how much do you think you should make as a side job to afford the car?

    • @SimplyCarThings
      @SimplyCarThings  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Estavaughn Goodum Hey man, with gas, insurance, and maintenance combined the car costs me roughly around $350 a month. I dont commute or drive far so gas isnt a big expense and most of the maintenance I have done myself which has saved me A LOT of money. I'd recommend to make at least $500-$600 a month to comfortably afford the car assuming you dont have other expenses.
