      @@Exel3nce It's not like it's an all encompassing issue, that with literally every word or action he'd only provoke unintentional laughter. I mean, yeah it's still a part of making art, so not like it's a black and white imperical fact. But in a case like this there will be more objectivity closer for the audience than subjectivity, and no, I feel just as confident today as I ever had saying he is a significantly inferior actor (granted he did have some truly dumpster fire of dialog to try to spout). But that doesn't mean he can't still somehow pull off a genuine, authentic moment or two to the audience, they can be in there to find.
      Have you ever seen "Shattered Glass"? because HC plays a real life magazine journalist Steven Glass who got into a ton of shit when it came out he wrote most of his feature story/interview articles totally out of the blue, they never happened. Major scandal. But funnily enough, HC's still very underdeveloped acting prowess somehow found the perfect next script for him to do, because all this stuff that's awkward and disjointed about him the prequels, for the character of this real life guy, and how far he'd often go to keep his secrets, it actually works kinda perfectly here in that context. It's a very good movie.

    I always assumed Padme "losing the will to live" was the medical droids unable to read/explain the effect the Force was having on her, and that Palpatine wasn't entirely dishonest when he told Vader that he'd killed her.

  • @TYcarterTracks

    its actually cannon that the reason he talks like he does when he becomes vader is because its no longer truly him talking as his lungs and vocal cords were damaged too badly. and the baftha tanks that they use to heal people cant exactly get inside his lungs without drownding him so hes forced to wear the suit that amplifies his breathing and translates vocal vibrations into words kinda like a advanced text to speech device.
    the only times he speaks for himself is when he uses the force on himself to boost his bodies ability to function in fights or like at the end of the 6th movie when he knew he was gonna die so he suffered thru the torture of talking

    • @kevinw712
      @kevinw712 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      which reminds me of a question I've wondered for years-- is he able to survive at the end of Ep3 specifically because he has such a crazy high midichlorians count? cause I mean the amount of damage his body accumulates, even by the time those little probes come to pick him up off the ground (nevermind the time then taken to get him to that chamber to get in the suit) that's like a solid 70% more fatal harshness than I'm certain any human body has ever endured before biting it. fucks sake almost his entire head is literally on fire while he's still on the ground lol

    • @TYcarterTracks
      @TYcarterTracks 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinw712ell it was cannon that the force kept him alive because the force was driven off of your emotions and the stronger your rage is the stronger your force abilites are while the stronger willed you are the more control over the force you have.
      so the sith use their anger as power while the jedi use their minds and control of the force as power.....
      so vader survived because his anger for obiwan in his final moments the betral he felt and rage towards the jedi "winning" and stopping him from saving his wife were what kept him alive.
      same way darth mal was chopped in half but his anger and rage towards also obiwan kept him alive for months inside of a trash compactor at the bottom of a 2000 foot fall... and darth vader was 100X more intune with his anger than darth mal.
      the thing tho is ani being taught by the jedi to control his power was what made him soo much more powerful than most jedi ever.,
      any jedi who can master balance of the force meaning both anger and control would become as powerful as the jedi of old.
      hense why luke is so powerful . he was taught to control his power by obiwan enough before he was introduced to the dark side that he had a grasp on both sides and just needed to train to find the balance between them.
      same for quigon who was the first jei in years to be considered as a jedi with a grasp of both sides and he was also first to figure out how to become a force ghost and told yoda how to do the same from beyond the grave....
      meaning control of the dark side made quigon more powerful than even yoda .
      obiwan was the only other person to be somwhat incontrol of both sides because quigot taught him not to fear the dark side but embrace it wqhile never letting it consume him.
      same thing obiwan tried to teach ani before darthsid clouded his judgment.
      also deppending how you look at it darth vader was created by darth sid by manipulating the force to create life from it its self. and created the most powerful jedi in history ..before luke .....
      so darth vader could just be powerful enough to survive or he used his rage to survive.
      i personally belive its the rage cause in the third films ending . if you watch ani's eyes .. they only turn evil yellow after he gets his legs chopped off . he only became a full fledged memeber of the darkside after attempting to kill his master like all sith do and inturn got defeated......his anger of loseing or dying or padme....somthing kept him alive . but it was the force forsure that did it.

      @kevinw712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh I doubt even the most ardent SW fans would try to argue against the OT for its fair share of hokey ass lines. But it's easy to not have a focus of that put on you as a viewer because it's the undeniable fun of the adventure story that's playing out before you. George Lucas was never in danger of getting called a good screenwriter. But he's good at being an overseer, a producer. Sure he can help craft a story from even the ground up and bring tricks to bear on developing structural and pacing issues, but you don't want him piping out the entirety of the whole shooting script himself. (I've always felt this is a very similar issue with James Cameron as well)
      I mean it was no mistake that Lucas had that Joseph Campbell sort of "bible" about our most enduring cultural myths in story form before he went full boar into breaking down the OT.

      Still the solid 2nd place of SW movies overall, only beaten by Empire Strike Back. A New Hope and Return of the Jedi don't come close. Tbh, every Obi-Wan and every Palpatine line are so masterfully done and iconic that they almost secures the movie its spot in the "hierarchy" without considering the rest of it.

      Melodeath00 well the film is, in many ways, destroyed because of the films that came before it. This movie is where so many things fall apart(ex: Obi wan and anakin’s relationship, Padme and anakins relationship, the republic etc) but imo, the first 2 films did such a terrible job at making me care for them. I mean look at TPM, obi wan and anakin barely speak to each other in that film. In AOTC, anakin and padme’s relationship feels so forced that I’m not engaged in the relationship. Yes ROTS does its best to recover from the terrible job those first 2 films did, but its not enough. So in the end, while rots had the potential to be the most emotional film, that potential to be fully realized was dependent on the first 2 films which, like I said, I feel so a terrible job at setting things up. I have other problems with the film but I feel that’s the main thing that holds it back. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad movie, but it’s not great either

      Yeah, I always defended the kid killing scene.
      Anakin has the moment that kylo ren should have. Kylo kills han and that is supposed to be the moment he is fully evil, but it unfortunately changes nothing.
      Anakin has the scene where he kills mace windu and agrees to go full dark side.
      It actually makes sense palpatine would have him go do the evilest thing possible, to make sure the dark side fully takes over and stop him from having a chance to go back

      @Autismo I enjoyed his inclusion of Uncle Owen, and his thoughts that the prequel story should have revolved around Obi Wan (with the original being Luke, and the overall arc being Anakin). I also enjoyed his usage of Dooku and of course keeping Maul around (I think this was before Clone Wars). My only gripe is how he wrapped it up at the very end, just a bit too cheesy, in my opinion, but still overall I would have enjoyed his version. Granted its in hindsight, so of course it will only ever be interesting fan fiction.

    Padme was killed remotely by sideous. You hear the anakin and Padme heart beats, then both stop, then Vader's starts up. Palpatine used the power to prevent death just like he said he would, he just used it to save Vader and take out Padme. It had to be that, otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to tell Vader that Vader killed her himself,because what if she is seen a few days later? He has to know she's dead, and since he said that only moments after she died, he had to have played a role in it. And that explains why the droids couldn't give a good reason why she's dying... They figure she must have lost the will to live.

    To Teddys point on the 2 on 1 swordfights. It's different than you would think, if you do any kind of sword fighting or medieval reenactment you learn that it's harder than you would think to fight with a partner. You dont know when or where your partner will strike and you dont want to get in the way of their shot OR, worse, to hit your partner by accident.
    On the other side, if you're fighting two people and can keep moving yourself it's easier to fight 2 than one because you can make them get in eachothers way.
    So sometimes 2 swords isn't better than 1, it's often even or worse.

    “So this is how Liberty dies...with thunderous applause”. Thats one of the most poignant messages of the prequels. Corrupt, greedy, and ambitious leaders manipulate the levers of power during crises until someone legally seizes absolute control.
    Palpatine is basically space Hitler.

      Do you really think that was a well written line? lol

    • @BookofFuture
      @BookofFuture 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      R yes, because democracies tend to kill themselves. During crises power is legitimately and enthusiastically ceded to an individual under the pretext of security and defense. That power is never returned to the body that ceded it and the people.
      Recall this film was made in the aftermath of 9/11 and the creation of the massive surveillance apparatus of the US government. Additionally it is loosely based off the Enabling Act of 1933, which granted Nazis absolute Authority over Germany.

    • @RRRRRRRRR33
      @RRRRRRRRR33 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BookofFuture this line became a joke among the community, a meme. Back when last jedi was released, there was a lot of memes on reddit mocking this. There are 2 major issues here: one, a normal person don't talk like that, it's something pretentious. Second, it's not because this line is inspired by real life events, it doesn't make it better or worse. You are taking seriously something written by George Lucas, that alone is a sign of insanity. He wanted to send a message to Bush, a nod at the nazi regime, etc... In the end, he mocked both with his horrible writing and a space Hitler who shouts "unlimited pooowah" like a cartoon villain.

    • @BookofFuture
      @BookofFuture 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      R yeah the SW “community” consists of many dense Gen Xers who took the originally trilogy too seriously. The prequels are goofy, but were still fun especially for children at the time. Nonetheless, this was this one of the more poignant moments in the prequels because few cinema and tv shows dramatize how the rise of authoritarianism is often willful. The “Rome” series is another good example.
      Lucas was not a great script writer, but he was a good world builder. The world he created is one where democracy was willfully abolished because of manufactured crises. Some found displaying such political machinations lame, but I think it’s particularly relevant in the 21st century and added a distinguishing layer to the franchise.

    Vader was never meant to be father. It was originally not meant to do that. It was a myth started by Lucas to convince people that the series was planned out from the very beginning. In reality early drafts of empire indicate that in fact yes Vader was originally separate from Anakin. I love Star Wars but early drafts really do indicate that no Lucas really didn’t know where he was fully going until at least the later drafts of empire.
