When I'm looking at buying a new species of tarantula, you are my go-to person for accurate information. Your videos are so informative and inspiring. I have recently ordered a pamphobeteus platyomma. I feel confident and prepared, and that's thanks to you, Tom. I eagerly await your next video. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.

I wanted to say thank you: your channel was what finally made me feel confident enough to buy my first spider back in 2018 and have since kept a number of tarantulas and still do, even if I had to sell some of them due to me having to move into a smaller apartment ❤ I still learned so much from doing all of this and it was and still is amazing. - Ella from Germany
I’m in the middle (or hopefully end) of the dreaded long phormictopus pre-molt that I’ve heard you talk about in previous videos, I swear the day it finally molts I’m throwing a party. Loved the pampho vid!
Thanks for the Video! i have three of them from 2021. They are my fastest growing Spiders. No Aggressions, very beautiful. They are in Boxes 80x40x40 cm with Substrate 25cm high. All three have digged a huge tunnel, where they lived. i see them not very often, sometimes in the early Morning. They are hungry all of the time. I love them.
This is the only Pamphobeteus sp. in my collection at the moment. She’s one of my favorites. Always hungry and getting big. Her last molt is almost exactly 6 inches. I do wish they kept that Christmas tree pattern like when they are smaller. Still a really great spider and super glad I have her. Thanks Tom! (You introduced me to the genus)
Once again great video Tom! Pamphos are one of my favourites aswel. Just picked up a mascara sling yesterday haha. My pampho collection includes 7inch machala,7+inch duran,6inch antinous and 6inch nigricolor-all young mature females..definately an awesome species but quite mischievous with what they do with their enclosures.
Hey Tom! Awesome video as always. Love Pamphos but my "big tropical terrestrial" genera of choice is Nhandu. One day I will get a Pampho if sp. Solaris ever comes down in price. Picking up an N. incei Oliver this week which I'm very excited for as it's been on my wishlist for a long time and my Orphnaecus sp. Marinduque Purple just matured male so I had a slot open up. I wanted to let you know that as of yesterday, my dad has been declared cancer-free. The surgeon was able to remove the entire tumour and there were no more cancer fells found on the pathology report. Thank you and Billie for your support, videos, and podcasts during the past year. If you hear of anyone needing a MM Marinduque Purple, please let me know! Keep up the awesome work! - Charlotte
Hola, Charlotte! Sorry for the late reply; I took a week long vacation. haha That is FANTASTIC news!!!!!! You must be absolutely elated and relieved! Billy and I are both so happy for you. Wow...what absolutely awesome news!!!! And I'll keep my ears open about the Marinduque! Seriously...so amazing!
Brilliant video Tom, always straight forward and sound advice, they're a beautiful species of spider 🕷, I actually have a Pamphobeteus platyomma, a female, she's going to get a rehouse very soon, thanks again Tom for another wonderful video.
I've got mine at fall 22. She's now about 14 cm. But She's more shy than yours so the most I see of Her are the feet. I hope She'll get bolder when older.
Hey Tom! Haha a Pamphobeteus and that good ol' Simply Lemonade, you're speaking directly to my heart. 😂 P sp mascara was my 2nd sp. (after GBB). Just like you, I only give it big prey items (I'd probably go for a 1.5"+ dubia juvie once every 3 or 4 wks considering the size of yours 😅). Given the fact that Ts won't go into premolt before a certain amount of time, given the right conditions [temps, etc], no need to rush their feeding .. ;) I gave mine about 7" of substrate to burrow (as a subadult, still in the same 18"*3 enclosure as an adult female). She dug down, and then expanded to the side so her burrow is probably ~2x7" long. She just dashes into it at the slightest disturbance, which makes her very manageable (although ~8" as we speak). Quite beginner friendly actually. 1 big dubia once in a while, water bottle cap refilled as it dries out, and mostly dry environment, and she's doing fine. I'm gonna jack up the moisture since room temps are going up (maybe I'll empty up my 5L [~1.5 gal] sprinkler in there 😅). Moist & cold = baaad, moist & warm = gooood! Now, it's time to feed the monster haha. [Another good thing if you allow them to burrow, you know when they want to feed. They'll stay down in their burrow at night if they've got no interest. Right now she keeps coming back up so she's hungry fo' sho'. 😜) Cheers mate, thanks for the upload & enjoy your Pamphos! ❤ Thomas
Hello, Thomas! Yeah, I'm giving more and more of my spiders deeper enclosures to allow for them to burrow. My chicken spider has remained burrowed, even though she is 8" now. That was a bit of a wakeup call. And that's a great point about knowing when they want to eat if they are burrowed! This one will definitely get deeper sub when it's time to rehouse her. Thanks again...I hope that all is well!
@TomsBigSpiders a chicken spider who likes to chicken out... Pretty good combination you've got here lol. I just watched your 'intermediate species podcast' from 5 yrs ago, and I must say, I surely did everything wrong. 😂 Started with 2 GBBs, got Pamphos 2/3 months later, and 3 sazimai slings... they're all doing fine anyway. 😉 Finally moved one of the (~1.5") sazimai slings into a 6"*3 acrylic enclosure. Seems a lot more lively with the extra moisture. And it decided to burrow a bit this time. Nowhere like my pamphos who literally spent their days digging the whole thing out until finished. This one does little by little, when not basking in the open. Not all terrestrials are the same. ;P All good here, thanks! Stay safe mate! 🙏
Gorgeous spider and enclosure. Where do you get your leaf litter from? How have your spiders liked the green sphagnum moss? Mine get some stuck on their feet here and there😂.
Hi Tom, none of these in my collection, they've not really been on my radar, so I'll be interested to see how these progress over time, thanks Gary (UK)
Hi Tom & Billie (camerawoman extraordinaire) hope you’re both doing well today. Great rehousing video 😊 She’s a spicy girl, but beautiful 😅 I do like the Birdeaters though. There’s so many different species of them but the term fits. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Have a great new week ahead too 😊😊
We can't complain, Joanne! Yeah, there really are. Someone just said that they were getting a birdeater, and I had to ask which one! haha Hope all is well with you!
Start the day with a reptile expo, picking up 4 slings: B. klassi, H. maculata, A. ezendami, and C. fimbriatus, and almost picking up a 5th in P. cautus (if only I could have found more info on that specific species); and end the day with a TBS video. All in all, not a bad Saturday haha
Like yourself Tom I started out being more into the giant species, and have kept a fair few pamphos in the past…now I only have one haha. As time goes on I’ve actually grown more of an appreciation for the “pet rocks” (not a fan of that term), and now my favourite spiders are brachys haha, quite the 180 really! Yours here is gorgeous though, nothing like a “big brown spider” eh? 😉😂

I bet she could teach us how to apply with all those eyes. It must take her forever to do her eyes. lol. Hello Billie. Have a blessed weekend. Hugs and love, JJ
They'll burrow as slings and juveniles, but I wouldn't call them fossorial. They are very easy to care for. Keep part of the sub moist and drop in food. They are eating machines and grow quickly.
