      Several artists participated in the show just out of love for it. It wasn't just Olivia Coleman. The man who played Nick's father is a very famous actor in France. Taylor Swift was so touched by Darcie and Tara's scene where, they told each that they loved them, that she let them use one of her songs for free.

If Alice wrote this episode like the comic, I’m going to be a mess on October 3. Season 3 - love, mental illness, future plans, and sex. ❤❤

It’s interesting how you talk about the pattern of expectations when one confesses their love for another as we got to see a bit of that last season with Tara and Darcy. I think Nick was going to tell Charlie that he loved him near the end of 2:8. "I love your hair. I love your eyes. I love....." And the divine Olivia Coleman is heard to say, "Nicky! I'm home." after keys in the lock and the door opening. I think that the "I love you" plotline is either going to be resolved quickly or is going to be used for Charlie to spiral a bit in anxiety of saying it. Nick adores Charlie. He can't even look at him since the "snow day" without love being written all over his face. We only see Nick look truly worried about Charlie when Charlie is not there. When they're together, he's completely bonkers in love.
    My theory is that each episode title actually refers to NICK rather than Charlie. Nick Meets Charlie in 1:1. Nick has a Crush on Charlie by 1:2. They kiss in 1:3 [and Nick has been having a proper full on gay crisis the whole episode]. He needs it to be kept a Secret. Charlie says "He's my friend." in Friend but that refers to Nick and he and Imogen decide to "just be friends". Nick is the one that has the many scenes with girls in Girls. Harry is the Bully, but it is Nick who fights him and pulls him off of Tao. And finally, Nick is who says "We're boyfriends!"
    2:1 Nick is coming Out. Family expands Nick's family with David and mention of Nick's dad first happening and we see that all is not nice in the Nelson household. Promise is Nick's promise to Tori that he'll protect Charlie [and it also references Tao and Elle having promised to put their friendship above all else in season one and how they're navigating becoming a couple. Every episode has other tie ins]. Challenge is for Nick not to kiss Charlie [which, by the way, it is Charlie who kisses Nick first. What's he supposed to do, lie still like a statue?]
    Heat is one of the least Nick-centric names. The heat is on because of the hickey and Ben saying he wanted Charlie back and Nick starting to push back on being asked if he gave Charlie the hickey, but the main heat is Elle and Tao [which Nick encouraged by his convo with Elle on the stairs just before it happens] and the intensity of the convo after Charlie faints, Nick speaks French, and heading toward Nick's dad. Nick can't tell the truth to his dad, at least he can't blurt it out in the moments he has to do so but then Dares to tell the Truth in that episode and then the convo continues when he truthfully says that he's not ready to do anything more than kissing. More truths get said between Tara and Darcy and Yousef and Nathan.
    Sorry is about a lot, but it is mostly about Nick's sorry excuse for a dad. In fact, Nick STARTS his coming out to his dad with the word "Sorry." He apologizes to his Mum when he leaves the table, "Sorry, Mum." He says "Sorry" again when Mum comes outside to them just after and she says that how his dad is is "A very sad way to exist." Dad says Sorry to Nick and says he wants to do better but in the moment he can't remember if David, obviously his favorite is going to Uni in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Tori calls David "a pathetic little man" and she could have just as easily said "a sorry little man". Nick's Mum says "sorry about all the drama" to Charlie's Mum who also says "sorry" about how she'd been thinking of Nick when they're leaving, "He's a very nice boy" she just doesn't use the word. And Perfect, well, it was a perfect end. Elle and Tao are moving forward, Tara and Darcy are moving forward, Nick is worried about Charlie. Charlie might become more of a focus in Season 3, but it is going to be Nick by his side for it.
    We also have many other love stories to expand in the next season. Yousef and Nathan might have more to do. Coach Singh and her wife might appear. Imogen and Sahar is being hinted at. Isaac might find a bit of happiness perhaps with the other Lambert student. Even Harry might get a girlfriend, maybe even Imogen [a girl with options!]. He stood up for her to Ben and his arc seems to be bending that way, the redemption of his character flaws. He's only just 16 and could do with some need to make someone else happy, to care about someone else's feelings [which Isaac encourages in him before the Eiffel Tower climb after which is when he defends Nick and Charlie.].
    But it will be Nick and Charlie at the center. And at the center of that, it will be Nick making sure that Charlie is healing, not becoming broken. As Nick says "I've done so many scary things because you were by my side." That's how he sees Charlie, the person who makes him strong. How could he do less for Charlie?

    Without spoiling anything, mental health and intimacy are the big focuses of the graphic novel volumes and novella being adapted for season 3 so… I think you’re on the right track with your expectations!
    Charlie’s quite mature in a lot ways, but I think his nerves around saying “I love you” and not wanting to “pressure” Nick into reciprocating also have a lot to do with his insecurities and tendency to overthink and doubt himself. You would think he’d have to know that Nick very nearly said “I love you” first in the season 2 finale!
    Jonathan Bailey is confirmed as a cameo appearance, so sadly he probably won’t show up in more than one episode… but his role in the story is fun, and he couldn’t be more well cast! He’s actually been talking about wanting to be part of Heartstopper since the first season came out two years ago. Apparently he has a mutual friend with the show’s exec producer, so he reached out and asked to be involved, and that’s how he ended up with this role. (Which is in fact an author/influencer crush of Charlie’s!)
    (Also… Tori’s definitely blunt, but I think this short clip was spliced in a way that made her advice seem extra abrupt and forceful lol.)

    Shows like "Heartstopper" and "Young Royals" are great, and I like them a lot, but there are also other fish in the sea, and some of them are absolute classics of cinema. Believe it or not, there probably are a couple people, but not many, I suppose, who were born in the past 20 years who've watched classics like "Rope" (1948) and "Boys in the Band" (1970). Actually, there's a lot of gay coding in Hitchcock's films. If you're in-the-know and paying attention, it's kind of fun to pick it out. Besides "Rope," where it's very obvious, examples are to be found in "The Lady Vanishes" (1938), "Rebecca" (1940), "Strangers on a Train" (1951), "North by Northwest" (1959) and "Psycho" (1960). Other older, good films with gay characters/subtexts include "Tea and Sympathy" (1956), "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1958), "Suddenly, Last Summer" (1959), "Some Like it Hot" (1959), "Victim" (1961), "The Deadly Affair" (1967), "Advise and Consent" (1962), "Les amitiés particulières/This Special Friendship" (1964), "Victor/Victoria" (1982), "The Hitcher" (1986), "Doing Time on Maple Drive" (1992), "The Talented Mr Ripley" (1999), "Go" (1999), "The Mudge Boy" (2003), "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (2011) etc. If you like series, there's the horror/family drama "The Haunting of Hill House" (2018), which features a lesbian character and is absolutely incredible. I suppose some of today's "sophisticated" gays would find some of these films horribly dated, but, if they actually thought about them, they'd think not. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. "Rope" is a very good movie, but also very disturbing. So much so, I can't watch it again. "Les amitiés particulières" and "The Hitcher" are also rather disturbing, but I find C. Thomas Howell in "The Hitcher" to be irresistible. In "The Deadly Affair" you get to see an excerpt of Marlowe's "Edward II." It's the part involving the hot poker, unfortunately. What an interesting play, though.

    Let's just say this kind of slow burn with their relationship works in the very-English, suburban, fancy-school setting. Both Nick & Charlie's pasts have taught them to be cautious about expressing themselves, it's sort of the reason the story exists. Season 3 will clear away a lot of the hedges in the garden, lol.

  • @lacynut

    Spoilers spoilers everywhere! It must be a nightmare trying to avoid them. But at the same time it's weird already knowing what's going to happen in Season 3. I only saw the first season without any prior information, and I was on edge of my seat throughout. The scene they chose for the teaser is ripped out of the pages of the book (although Charlie says "tank top" instead of "vest"). It sparks such anticipation wondering how other pages will come to life. But it is different from seeing everything fresh for the first time.

      The acting and the writing in Heartstopper is exceptional , the show has won many awards including five Emmy awards in it's first season and Kit Connor won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Performance in the Children's and Family Emmy Awards and also best actor in the Royal Television Society Awards, and season 3 has not come out yet. The writing follows the books very well and the books have sold just under 9 million, so I don't think your comments are warranted about the acting and writing.

    • @belpop
      @belpop 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lindawalsh514 this has nothing to do with the books or the children’s Emmy’s. I feel the acting and writing is cringe, partly because I think some of the stuff just doesn’t translate well from book to screen and feels clunky and awkward. • @user-bl5yi4uw6j
    @user-bl5yi4uw6j หลายเดือนก่อน

    I haven't read the books/novels yet, so this is pure speculation, but I think Series 3 is going to be quite dark, and I'm anticipating a mixed finale. Isn't that true-to-life? We've seen already an increasingly dark progression going from Series 1 to Series 2. It was foreshadowed quite clearly from the get-go that Charlie has issues because of what happened to him the year before, the eating disorder for sure which Charlie eventually admits after Nick's coaxing. That's bad enough, but there's more. This Series I think I saw Charlie doing something to himself, like pinching or whatnot under his wrist, when he was stressed. What's up with that? Now, at the very end, he tells Nick he has a self-harm problem. Wonderful! What's this going to mean for Charlie and Nick's relationship, which is also going to be next level from now on? God forbid, Charlie attempts suicide! Also, Nick is going to have to start thinking about his future and what that means. What sort of stress is that going to put on Charlie? Are Charlie's problems and Nick's reaction going to cause Charlie to regard Nick as another Ben? Of course, we know Nick would never be like that. Ugh, I see all sorts of dreadful scenarios possible. It's going to be a bumpy ride in the final Series for many of the characters, I feel. Even so, I do so hate to see it all end. I really like these characters/actors.
    By the way, I don't agree with the tack that was taken regarding Ben and Harry in Series 2. Yes, they both behaved dreadfully, especially Ben, and it is completely understandable why Charlie would want to shut them out, but, from a mental health perspective, I feel it would have been better for Charlie to forgive and forget the past as much as is humanly possible. We all make mistakes and sometimes do horrible things, but we can also grow as human beings. Also, by doing what he did, Charlie left Ben in a similar damaged state as himself. Does he really want to do that? I wouldn't think so.

    • @charliec4405
      @charliec4405 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I really admire what they did with Harry and Ben. Most programmes would have them being forgiven, what is needed -and what we got - is the portrayal that actually some things are beyond forgiving and forgetting and that's OK! We are not obligated to forgive people

    • @user-bl5yi4uw6j
      @user-bl5yi4uw6j 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@charliec4405 No one is obliged to forgive, and in real life I know it's often a difficult proposition to forgive those who have done us wrong. I say this as someone who's pretty good at hating by the way. But, if the repentance is sincere, why not? If you don't, it seems _you_ now hold a grudge, and people who hold grudges are more likely to suffer from severe depression and PTSD. What do they say in "Star Wars?" Let go of your hate because that leads to the dark side? Something like that, right? Surprisingly, there's some truth to it. That may be, say, Charlie's problem. If it is, it's going to eat him alive and negatively impact those around him. Forgiveness, on the other hand, can have powerful health benefits. Observational studies, and even some randomized trials, suggest that forgiveness is associated with lower levels of depression, anxiety, and hostility; reduced substance abuse; higher self-esteem; and greater life satisfaction. So, why not - even if it's clichéd?
