The song was performed during a concert in Italia of the Night of the Proms series.
Night of the Proms is a legendary series of concerts in Europe: held yearly in Summertime and touring in several cities and countries across europe, it is a very popular shows sequence that mixes pop, rock and classical music with a big orchestra in giant stadiums.
It has been running since the 80s and the most famous artists have been performing in these concerts: from Joe Cocker and Art Garfunkel to Simple Minds, Seal and Sting.
The music director of these events was for decades the legendary John Miles, known in Europe as Mr Music due to his immense hit simply titled "Music".

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonata, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and gave his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music compositions, mostly operatic, and different lyrics (the band Renaissance, Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in italian then co-wrote the english lyrics for it and is the original performer of these 2 versions.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Julie Anne San Jose, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, Evgenia Fanfara, , …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.

Her italian version is also amazing. A famous italian version:

Or you can check her recent excellent rendition in Paris early october 2022

I heard her sing this in English. Dimash covered this song on The Singer 2017. She later collaborated with Igor Kutroy to compose the song "Your Love" for Dimash. Igor composed the music and she, the words. Dimash also covered her song, Mademoiselle Hyde. Her voice is so perfect and beautiful. Dimash said growing up, he always wanted to sing with her and he got the chance on two occasions.

Dimash also covered her Love of Tired Swans. Initially, in 2010, she wrote this song in French under the title Je t’aime encore. Music from Igor of course. Then in 2014 a russian version was created for her and was titled Love of Tired Swans. Dimash covered it in 2018 with a few lyrics changes to become a male song.
And Dimash also covered her Ascolta la Voce, it was a pure vocalization, and lyrics were added for Dimash to become Know.
Both Lara and Dimash also covered an old song from Igor: Love is like a dream.

I had just been hearing a reaction to Geoff Castellucci singing "I See Fire" from The Hobbit. I thought I could maybe get through it, but I couldn't. I've tried several times, but it's just SO much crunched NOISE (harmonically speaking). I love a lot of Geoff's stuff, but that particular one HURTS my head something awful. I asked the reactor to do Dan Vasc's version soon, if he will (and he probably will, since he loves Dan's music). THAT one I'll listen to at least 100x a day.
Anyway...I came straight into this reaction when I saw it pop up. I LOVE her voice, and it was JUST what I needed to soothe the still-jerking raw spots in my ears and brain. Thank you, Leo, and thank you, Matt, for your wonderful reaction, and thanks for the TIMING, too (even though you had no idea what I would be going through before seeing the reaction on my screen. 😀 I definitely really need this tonight.
