This scene always reminds me that people are not supposed to do what they're told to. With an impressive drive, people can be expert in the genres that they've never experienced before. The most important thing is attitude and personality. I love Elle. This is my favourite movie of all time.
This is actually something I figured out very young. Everyone’s sort of conditioned to follow directions but you get more for your buck by being an anomaly. Within reason of course. For example being a polyglot.
I saw this movie when I was 9 years old. I didn't get everything they said, but it really inspired me. I saw it again yesterday (I'm 27 now) and I loved how Elle proved everyone wrong while being her fabulous self. Plus, it's great that Vivian and Elle ditched Warner and became friends. Our lives don't revolve around men.
It always amaized me how all her Sorority sisters helped her focus and pass the test, even tho they were all "Barbies" as well. They all really cared for each other and supported her as it should. We needed women supporting women in media at that time when another woman appearence always meant women fights.
It's funny, but it's also sad. Elle has the grades, she has the extracurriculars, she is smart and ambitious, but all anyone sees of her is a beautiful blond.

The fashion major comment reminds me of my classmate in Med school who has a mass communication degree. I always remember the look of our presiding doctors faces whenever she introduces herself as a mass com graduate when we have our medical cases small group discussions. She was the only only one in our batch with a non medical pre med school course but now she's a practicing pediatrician.
Hopefully, she's not too discouraged by those looks. If I had a terminal illness, I'd want her to tell me. Many doctors can be unintentionally (and unfortunately, sometimes intentionally) crass and cold when telling a patient they only have a short time to live. Coming from a theatre background myself, I've started arguing that language really is its own skill, which I think is a reason why I stayed away from fields like medicine; it's just too "inside the box" for me.
What I love the most about this film, was those faces from the lawyers around the table, they were astonished, speechless after watching Elle's video 😂
Still the best positive movie out there saying no stereotyping. Girls are not dumb no matter where they came from or what their interests are or personality like.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Elle inspired me to study law. I couldn’t finish because of certain issues I had back then, but she was such an inspiration. I also looked like her in my twenties (not so pink I went for a more goth style) I’m blonde with green eyes and petite and I wasn’t taken seriously in college (I majored in English before going to law school) because of my looks, but I proved everyone wrong and I graduated with honors, getting the highest score on my thesis. A funny story. Some years ago I got a job thanks to her. We were on a group interview and the interviewer asked us the typical question “who do you admire?” Most people mentioned people like “Mother Theresa”, “The Pope” and so on. When it was my turn, I said I admired the fictional character of Elle Woods because of her drive, her intelligence and how she proved everyone wrong by excelling in everything she put her mind into. I could sense the other candidates thinking I was dumb, however, the joke was on them since I was the one who got the job in the end.😊
Honestly it’s not shocking she got into Harvard if you know the requirements of getting into an Ivy League law school. It’s not much as long as you have a good gpa and high lsat score, a fun personality and majored in a less common major it may actually help you more in that you have a fresh perspective for law school and make you stand out from other applicants. Both Yale and Harvard have recently shared their encouragement for applying to their school and not letting an lsat score or low socioeconomic background discourage you. They also have implemented more programs to help people afford to go to their school
Warner: "YOU... got into Harvard???" Elle Woods: "What? Like it's hard?" What a queen! 😭 also that's a major roast for Warner considering he got waitlisted and had his father pull some strings 😅 Elle didn't know this of course.... that dang that was a good roast 😅
A fierce and determined leader that knows how to get things done, assemble a team that supports her vision and is not afraid of challenge and hard works. That’s how I’ put it.
Honestly I think the video essay was really creative all things considered. It showcased her in a very unique way. It showcased her and her sense of self. It was Elle being unapologetically herself and I think that’s a great thing when applying for competitive places like Harvard. In addition her application and her extracurricular activities and her grades and her LSTATs score were impeccable. It’s really not surprising as to why Harvard admitted her. She was already an amazing candidate.
I love lawyer Elle but there’s always gonna be a part of me that wishes she stayed in LA and pursued her fashion dreams :( She seemed so happy with her friends and social life before, I just know she would’ve made an amazing designer, creative director or smth else like that.
if u r someone who is asking the question, "can a seemingly vapid valley girl who focuses on shallow issues prove she is intelligent?" then according to this movie, the answer is yes. hard work and rote memorization have more to do with learning in schools than anything else. any average person can do well as long as they make attendence, do their work, pay attention and study hard. either that or it teaches us the inherent flaws in the school systems. work ethic, reliability and social networking have more to do with getting a good job, the degree is just to get you in the door.
I like how despite being hesitant and doubtful, these guys still saw that she was impressive, just not in what they were used to seeing, and knew they should try new things

“Once again we join Hope on the search for her identity. As you know she’s been brainwashed by the evil Steffano.” I just realized how clever that line was. Hope is Elle. Steffano is Warren.
Oh my god! I never realized that
Waiting for the day when someone recreates this and actually sends it to Harvard
Harvard (and most schools) never accepted video essays. It would take too much time for them to watch
Georgetown accepts 1 minute videos...I did it hahah lemme know your email if you're trying to watch my masterpiece
I love how supportive they all are
I saw this movie when I was 9 years old.
96 babies ;)
I OBJECT gets me everytime!!!
It always amaized me how all her Sorority sisters helped her focus and pass the test, even tho they were all "Barbies" as well. They all really cared for each other and supported her as it should. We needed women supporting women in media at that time when another woman appearence always meant women fights.
The reactions from the men in the admissions office always cracks me up!😂
It's funny, but it's also sad. Elle has the grades, she has the extracurriculars, she is smart and ambitious, but all anyone sees of her is a beautiful blond.
Yeah, but it is Harvard, and sadly sometimes the best of the best don’t get in there. Plus she did over exaggerate her essay video, I’m sure it’s not something admissions see on a regular basis lol!
@@rosesweetcharlotte They still looked past it, listing her accomplishments and accepting her for that.
It's still hilarious that all of the others were trying to convince the head guy lol She deserves her spot but they're reasonings were great.
@@brookekobasher5125 Molly McGaan's Harvard application was much worse ... google it. There the admissions board was addressed by "Listen here you little slanks".
It is a classic and I am getting old....geez, 20 years?
That’s just crazy!
STILL WATCH IT ALL THE TIME
Even though she went to law school to get Warner back but along the way she found that she wasn’t what she wanted and she deserved better!
Also, the dank Harvard degree!
The judges were like " Yeah , she is weird , but she's smart and scored a lot so .... Yeah ."
179 is actually crazy hard to get. She must be a genius.
These guys spinning and hamming up elles resume is me writing mine
elle's best friends are amazing, i've never seen them downplay her or her potential
Watching this as I'm prepping for the LSAT myself. You go, Elle!
You also go, Rebecca!
How did it go? ☘️
@@talkinghead1554 it went pretty well but I’m hoping to do even better as I continue! Thanks!
This was absolutely iconic
Gotta love how the admissions board was completely bewildered, but still impressed at the same time.
Still a great comedy! I remember seeing this in theaters and just laughing hysterically!
Instead of turning their backs, they supported Elle all the way through….!!
Happy to see many people supported her. She's really caring to everyone thus she's so loveable :)
Elle is similar to Barbie in many good ways.
I love that when her boyfriend dumped her and she got really upset about it, she started focusing on becoming her best self.
sadly, many girls in real life don't do that after a break-up, and rather be dramatic and act a fool on IG.
She has the support and help from her best friends and her whole house was cheering her on. I love seeing women lifting up women!!
I love how all her friends are so supportive.
What I love the most about this film, was those faces from the lawyers around the table, they were astonished, speechless after watching Elle's video 😂
Elle's hard work is so impressive and her friends are so supportive
Omg I love this. Women supporting each other. And I am so glad that Harvard Admissions could see what an amazing person she is.
I used to think the joke was that they let her in because they found her attractive but what if they were just legitimately impressed.
She does have a 4.0 and earned a 179 on the LSAT which is impressive.
Still the best positive movie out there saying no stereotyping. Girls are not dumb no matter where they came from or what their interests are or personality like.
When she says she hired a Coppola to direct this. It was definitely Sofia, lol.
That shot at 2:44 is priceless 🤣
I loved how supportive all her sorority sisters were of her :)
Let it sink... this movie is 20 years old now
No, it isn't. It just time traveled to my childhood.
My sister was born that year and she’s 20 now
The one movie where a sorority was shown in a positive light.
House bunny does a good job
i love how her whole sorority was just so happy and proud of her and how they helped her too.
Warner: "YOU... got into Harvard???"
Elle Woods: "What? Like it's hard?"
What a queen! 😭 also that's a major roast for Warner considering he got waitlisted and had his father pull some strings 😅 Elle didn't know this of course.... that dang that was a good roast 😅
Can't believe they could find positive correlation between fashion and ....law.
The fact that she hired a Coppola to direct this. ICONIC!!!!
Beautiful, talented and smart, also funny, and a friend to anybody no matter who they are. Love ya Elle.
I wish my friends had streamers and balloons on stand-by every-time I pass a test
I love lawyer Elle but there’s always gonna be a part of me that wishes she stayed in LA and pursued her fashion dreams :( She seemed so happy with her friends and social life before, I just know she would’ve made an amazing designer, creative director or smth else like that.
I always imagine Elle as a lawyer going against big companies producing leather garments or celebrity cases like the Johnny Depp one
on July 13th this movie will have its 20th anniversary
I miss movie like this again... Like it's simple but complicated and fun
This is Francis Ford Coppola's best work yet
"We've never had one before"
How does he know that? Did he memorize what majors everyone admitted to Harvard has had?
Well she’s really unconventional
It's not necessarily to memorize what every student's major was, to know that they didn't have a fashion major.
@@patricklindsay72 Maybe I didn't phrase it properly, but that's a lot pf students to remember as not being fashion majors
@@debrachambers1304 "...that's a lot of students"
How many? He didn't say. So why are you assuming?
It’s just a movie
Yes we all randomly think about this video essay.
She got a nearly perfect score on her LSATs she’s one smart lady. She is so cute
I really love that is so sweet and positive sorority ❤
I was in the sorority that the author of the book was an alum of. It was a very positive experience!
“I even got a Coppola to direct my admissions video” 😂😂😂 kills me everytime
if u r someone who is asking the question, "can a seemingly vapid valley girl who focuses on shallow issues prove she is intelligent?" then according to this movie, the answer is yes. hard work and rote memorization have more to do with learning in schools than anything else. any average person can do well as long as they make attendence, do their work, pay attention and study hard.
either that or it teaches us the inherent flaws in the school systems. work ethic, reliability and social networking have more to do with getting a good job, the degree is just to get you in the door.
Her smiles at the end of every segment destroy me 😂😂😂😂
my aunt keeps replaying this movie when I was a kid and I miss this so much!
Wow !! Rachel's sister Jill was trying to get into Harvard. That's amazing their father must be proud ! 😂😂😂
Rachel is no longer the only sister he’s proud of!
I like how despite being hesitant and doubtful, these guys still saw that she was impressive, just not in what they were used to seeing, and knew they should try new things
that video made me laugh as a kid but also bittersweet. Friendship for Elle is magic.
God, elle woods is multi talented. Her essay video shows that she also knows multimedia arts. She can design clothes, very smart as well. I want to be like her.
It reminds me of the contestant on American Idol who auditioned in a tiny bikini. The male judges loved her, the females hated her.
1:31 This is so epic!
She was in a Ricky Martin video...haha!
That's... one small step... for Elle... One... giant leap for blonde-kind.
I love how they were all with her, supporting her, helping her it's empowering not to mention the fact she stayed true to herself ❤❤❤
If you ever need any proof of why Reese Witherspoon is amazing watch this and Election back to back. She’s a wonderful actor.
“You got in to Harvard?” Elle:”What like it’s hard?”
I thought that this was an actual persons harvard essay video and I was so impressed by the camera work
She did not get into harvard as Warren who was born to prepare for such a position and was resourceful and destined. She made her mark, fought for it. Thats what is impressive.
i love how supportive her sorority sisters are
