It's that time of the week again! Waking up to a cheerful video from your garden is always a blessing. I'm so jealous of your climate and long summer!! My seedlings took much longer to germinate than they should have, and nothing is as advanced as your beautiful crops. My first borlotti beans are only 3 inches long, and most varieties haven't even begun to set yet. Last week a mini frost nipped some of them, and we've had chilly nights ever since. I despair of ever getting crops of anything frost tender. My glass gem corn is taller than me, but who can tell if it will be spared long enough to produce anything!! I'm running out of years to create the abundant self sufficient garden I've always longed for, unless I content myself with peas, broad beans, potatoes, leeks, leaf and root veggies. I do seem to have the world's largest crimson chard plant. But of course we gardeners always want to grow EVERYTHING!
Oh Ruby that’s challenging! We’ve had pretty cool nights here too but nowhere near having frosts. Fingers crossed it warms up a bit more for you to get those crops grown!! Yes we’re never quite content with what we’ve already managed to grow but I suppose that keeps gardening exciting - the unknown of what we might be able to grow haha!
Those bean seeds are very pretty. Your pumpkins are taking over , with them and an abundance of potatoes, you'd be set . I hate it when perfect pumpkins get themselves stuck in fences. It hasn't ended well for me. That's great that the vine went on to do well after a prune. The cabbage moths were watching your every move , luckily you covered those seedlings up quick . Thank you for sharing lovely ❤❤
Yeah I had to move in fast with those moths - I’ll have to get back and check for eggs or caterpillars soon - had to have closed some in there! Thanks for watching Naomi 😊
The pumpkins are looking amazing Linda! I can see a few have cross pollinated, and if they’re seeds from me… I can pretty much guarantee they’ll be crosses lol 😂 Maybe we can start some new breeds 🌱🌱 It’s actually been good conditions for them the last couple of weeks. We’re gonna be swamped with pumpkins this year🤣🤣 xx Cathi xx 😘
What a lovely climate you must have. I struggle mightily with squash vine borers (southeast USA) so growing pumpkins and winter squash is a real challenge. You don't seem to have that particular pest at your location, you lucky woman!
It's not a bad climate at all - fairly mild summers and winters - not too much in the extreme! So pleased not to have borers - it must be very disappointing when they hit! How's winter treating you Sue??
@@huttonsvalleypermaculture We went from 13 degrees F about a month ago and now our afternoon temps are 70 degrees F. It is insane! These beautiful afternoons make me want to plant spring vegs, especially sugar snap peas, but I know there are more cold temps ahead.
Thank you for your wonderful videos. Your garden is amazing and inspiring. We’ve recently moved to a house on 1/4 acre which compared to what we had previously is wonderful! I’m doing what I can in the space we have. I’ve just harvested a fantastic crop of pumpkins that are growing under our newly planted fruit trees, and there is a lot more on the vines to come. I’m keen to try potato and sweet potato next.
Oh yes - definitely try both types of potatoes - so exciting to dig them up and see what you have and so easy too. Love that you have extra space o grow now! Thanks for watching!!
Glorious, glorious pumpkins, Cinderella will be able to take a choice of carriages if she visits your garden😂❤ more spuds again! How do you store any not processed please Linda?
I love a pumpkin filled garden!! The potatoes I mostly give away or sell these days. I do keep some in the pantry but find they fairly quickly sprout so thats why I process them. I've reached the point with my garden that I can be fairly confident of being able to dig up a potato any time of year if I need to, so can more freely give away the excess - it's a nice place to find myself!!

It's fun growing the unusual - creates more excitement when going out to explore the garden - you're not quite sure what you'll find!!
