So This Has Been Happening!!
I haven't published a video for a few weeks now, so what have I been up to!?
In today's video we'll catch up on happenings in the front veggie garden, work on my new chicken run, chop and drop activity out in the swales. I have some beautiful little lambs to introduce and finally I wanted to share some other happenings in my life. These will affect the time I'll have for gardening and making videos, so if you're interested in finding out about that, please watch until the end!!

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture I’m up in Bendigo and only have access to a 5x8 foot bed at the local community garden. I’m using permaculture principles and companion planting. Everything is going gangbusters at the moment and all space is utilised. I have seeds on heat mats at home for summer veggies. I’m particularly interested in your growing cucumbers up the snow pea trellis as they end. Will you be cutting back the snow peas or just growing over them? Mx

Hi there, we also have moisture issues and dampness in our West Gippy property which aggravates our allergies and asthma. I bought a dehumidifier- just a small model-but it is amazing how much moisture/water it sucks out of the building. Maybe one of these or even better a HVAC system could help you minimise some of the excess moisture at your place. Take care, you deserve it!

Thank you! What I've learnt is that not only are modern designs letting us down but we've selected for these organisms to grow in our homes with the use of chemicals, both in agriculture, starting in the 50's, and in our paints, with the use of fungicides. These produce resistant organisms that have mutated overtime to produce the mycotoxin producing moulds that are problematic for so many, and our highly insulated homes provide a nice moist living space when leaks utlimately happen!

I'm so happy to see you and your farm again, but sorry to hear your health news. I've recently diagnosed myself too, with "farmer's lung," after 16 months of never feeling well since having flu and bronchitis last year. Any trace of mould brings on paroxysms of coughing and I'm short of breath most of the time. I bought several large bales of hay about 4 years ago, which had been sitting outside in the rain. All of them had lots of mould inside, and it started off this hypersensitivity pneumonitis. It is one of the biggest vocational killers of farmers. My old timber house has always been damp and mouldy too. But there's no way of fixing that. Hopefully you will make some videos later, detailing your health progress! Seems plenty of us suffer from similar issues.

Oh no, Linda! That sounds horrible. I hope you can fix your house, so it stops making you sick! Some years ago I read "The bulletproof diet" and I remember that the author, Dave Asprey, also hat massive problems with mold toxins, so there was quite a lot infos in there about that topic. Also, if I remember correctly, there are foods that often can have molds in them (like coffee, and back pepper). He also has a youtube channel (search for Dave Asprey bulletproof) so there probably are a number of videos on mold among other interesting stuff about how to "bulletproof" yourself against all the crazy stuff the world (well, we ourselves, actually...) throws at us, that make us sick. I'll sure miss your videos, but health is more important. I hope, you'll come back soon, bulletproof 😊

I’m so sorry that you have had health issues for many years and hope this strategy makes huge improvements to your health for the future. I hope you have family and friends to help you get it all done. Will miss your videos but needs must for the time being. Take care Linda. Ps. I don’t want to give health advice but I know many on TH-cam who have dealt with inflammatory diseases, including myself, have had good results with Low Carb/Keto/Carnivore type diets. Just another strategy in case you need it.

Hi Helen and thank you. The truth is going carnivore for 6 months was what helped me diagnose my problem. All I'd wanted was to fix my leaky gut once and for all so that I could have dairy again - hmm not to be!! The weight lose was while I was on carnivore. Discovered I could not absorb fats - bile issues (from many years of fat free living - can you remember in the 80's you had to avoid fat at all costs!!!), so my body was using my own stores (which were runniing out!!) and I did lose lots of weight. Anyway if carnivore doesn't heal you then CIRS needs to be considered and that's what it was. Didn't publise as I felt conflicted with promoting organic veggie growing but not consuming them. I did watch my words carefully in videos - most of the food I harvested back then went to friends and family and I also cooked for my nephew. Any way I'm back to eating mostly animal based with some veg - still avoiding lots like nightshades due to the leaky gut. I have confidence in the woman treating me but it might be two years before I'm as recovered as I can be. Thanks again Helen xx

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture It's always a bit of a longshot to recommend health stuff to others as everyone is at such a different place and it can be a bit like religion. However for what it's worth, feeling I've gotten to know you a bit watching your videos I have an inkling that you might find inspiration with Canadian Amandha Vollmer and her work. She's very holistic and gives lots of ideas for detoxing. She's the go to expert for DMSO and also urine therapy. Maybe someone to check out at some stage.

Hi Linda. That's huge! I can't even imagine how to go about tackling such a massive clear out of one's environment. Dealing with autoimmune conditions is a difficult journey for sure (speaking from experience). So impressed at what you achieve despite those challenges. I'm also in the process of developing a permaculture property - only 1/3 acre, so much smaller than yours but definitely enough of a challenge at age 56 🙂. Have very much appreciated all the time you have given us here on youtube - I find your vids very enjoyable and interesting. I now also have a hand sickle thanks to you - makes such short work of chopping down comfrey. Take care and thinking of you xo.

Ana sorry to hear of your health issues also. I don't think many of us find ourselves in the organic food growing arena without some health problems to address! Maybe I'll start another channel specifically on this - will think about that and if I've got time to share!! Definitely check out CIRS as I think it's an unrecognised common issue! I'll be doing updates on the garden at times - not how to's but may just how the garden is surviving with no attention haha!!

Hi Linda, Just wondering if you have spoken with your home insurer to see if they can help you with the repairs/renovations with your house, as the cause of the mould growth was due to a leak? It would certainly make life easier for you if they were able to assist.

    • @huttonsvalleypermaculture
      @huttonsvalleypermaculture 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thanks Tammy - I did speak with them for the initial leak but haven't so far for this. There are other areas of concern as well like a poorly designed ensuite creating issues and incorrect orientation of my house creating condensation problems. Pretty sure insurance would weasel out of it but worth asking I suppose!!

I don't think I have any mould issues in my house. It's a 1928 dble brick with 12' ceilings. I've always been aware of mdf, carpets, plastics, synthetics and all man made products that leach chemicals into our environment. When I renovated I made sure that I didn't use those products. I use jarrah or pine, its more expensive but I think it's worth it in the long run. Thatnkyou for your info today. Take care and I hope you sort things out 🙏

Get an ERMI dust test done of your home - not cheap but definitely worth it as it will tell you whether you have significant mould issues or not. You can necessarily see the problem - it's not always an obvious black, green or whatever colour mould - they are often visually indetectable! If you do want a dust test - check out this website for australian testing. nsjenviro.com.au/

I've just found your channel. I'm coeliac as well. I was getting inflammatory arthritis and thought it was my CD, I've since found out it's from dairy products. I'd love to see your reno videos to. Now I'm looking into CIRS.

Hi there! Definitely check out CIRS. A fairly quick screening test can be completed online - it's Visual Contrast Sensitivity test. There are a couple of sites you can do this on - first is on the Surviving Mold website and the other is vcstest.com - cheap to do

Thanks Kayleen. I quit sugars a number of years ago and it did make a big difference at the time. Every year or two I seemed to have to eliminate something and found some improvements which then plateaued. At least now I've got the answer (I hope!!)
