The fucked up thing about that was that his daddy doesn't want and never was in his life. Women I've met who have kids pretend that their kid doesn't need a father or extra support in their life, which later on I play with their head and they admit it. I was talking to someone recently for about a month(never went out with her) she had two kids and I immediately told her straight up I'm not willing to be stepdaddy again. She was okay. I am a single 41 year old woman with no children that was in a relationship with a man for three years that had two daughters under 18. He was always going over and into the ex wife's house "checking on the kids". I always got a feeling that the relationship was never completely over. The lesson I learned was to be leary of men that are "close friends" with there exs and stay away from men that have children under 18 because they still have to deal with the ex, good or bad. Also make sure that you only date men that have they raised their children to be responsible independent adults if not it will always be financial issues and problems arising that can affect your relationship with that man.

Married 9 years. Met my wife in 2007 at church. Assistant Pastor told me she had 4 kids and ex-hubby died in a car crash. I immediately rejected any thoughts of moving forward with a situation like that. LOL. Finding out she really only had 3 boys with the ex-hubby and he was still alive working as a Wayne County sheriff here in Detroit softened the blow a bit. Even as a kid I had always wanted a large family. In 2010, me, her, her 3 boys and my 1 daughter took pictures at our wedding. Fast forward and we brought 3 more kids into the world. Now, we have a 2 year old, a 24 year old and all ages in between. Kids in grade school and kids in grad school. We've had to deal with some of these stepfamily issues Willie D is speaking on and, looking back, it wasn't the smartest move I ever made in my life. The same time, my stepsons had to deal with a man who wasn't their dad and moved into their home with them and did his best to just lay down the law without much acknowledgement to the pain they experienced in their lives because of their real dad's absence so there was a lot of resistance from them and their mom who was, in my opinion, a little too overprotective of these kids, who, in her eyes, were still getting over the hurt their natural dad put on them. Not to mention that I saw my stepsons more than my natural daughter who got a full ride scholarship to a boarding school near Detroit so that was a little crazy.
However, I love my wife and accept the fact of the choice that I made. We're kinda at a crossroads right now. Not sure how 2019 will fully play out but I'm praying and hopeful cause I came from foster care as a child and really want to be able to keep THIS family together.
We'll see what happens.

@willie D, my sister had a baby by a married man. His wife happened to be pregnant at the same time. My nephew is now 19. I raised him like he was my own son since he was born. When I met my wife he liked her at first, until I started spending more time with her. He was 8 when I got married. He followed me everywhere I went. I told her that we were a package deal since his dad didn't have anything to do with him. He has never said to me or her "you ain't my dad or you ain't my momma". He's lived with us off and on, but every summer. He just started college We did EVERYTHING for him to start school. My sister did nothing and started treating him different when she had my niece from her current boyfriend. His dad had a stroke and is in an assisted living facility. He actually thanked me for taking care of him all of these years. I didn't want him to make the same mistakes as I did growing up. From gangs at 14 to selling drugs when I was in college because my mother was on a fixed income.

I’ve dated a single mother and let me tell you, avoid them at all costs.
I tell ppl all the time.. the reason why Paul spoke of no sex before marriage && why Jesus didn't approve of divorce because that union is so sacred it would behoove you to make sure that person is equally yoked with you before sex && marriage . The dynamic of having " Step " parents is very unnatural. Kids can't comprehend that. Then most of the problem with single mothers is they put the kids before everything.. so the kids feel like they are in control. Most of the time single mothers are looking for help more than love.. that's why the majority of women who have been divorced , have been in 2 0r 3 marriages. Once you give your all to somebody it's human nature to have residual effects from it once its over.

What about the good guy who falls for the single mom's trap, then realizes later that its not for him? By that time, the kids may already look at you like dad, the mom will put pressure on you to do what her kids father didn't do. Realistically, its a lose lose situation. Think about this too, if you go on to marry her, YOUR KIDS would be the youngest learning the ways of the older kids which may be a very bad thing. All the drama, fighting ect... No matter how fine the woman is, no matter how much you, "love" her, it would still not be the wisest thing to do. Single mothers are kinda screwed, but that isn't the new mans fault! At the end of the day it just doesn't make sense to date a single mother, period.

I'd date a woman with children because her having children is not a disqualifier in my book. If these children are well mannered and respectful because she's taught them to be that way then I'd be the first in line. I find women with children are not as selfish and self centered as women without children. Single or divorced mothers know what it's like to give of themselves and love to the fullest imo!
I am afraid that you would be making a potentially grave mistake. You see, women don't want you or anyone else hitting on their kids, even their biological father! You can support them, buy them things, take them to six flags, and help with homework. As soon as they step out of line and you have to discipline them, THEN you are going to have a problem. The problem with what you said in the last min is that it doesn’t matter how great the women are men are with kids. The fact that they have kids and an ex that is bonded to them for life is the deal breaker. So bringing up that they could be the perfect partener is irrelevant. It is possible that a person could give you the best relationship in the world but him or she could also be a serial killer. So that fact that they are the best person in a relationship to be becomes overshadowed by the fact that they kill people for fun. Why? Because I would rather risk looking for someone who doesn’t do that because if I wind up with the serial killer one way or another I’m mostlikey going to be affected by their actions.
