Ricky Smiley has a son who a few years ago made some disrespectful remarks about darker women and why he don't date them. I think this is a mentality in that family and not just a joke. They're really prejudice against dark skin women/people and use comedy as a cover for how they really feel.

I was made fun of in school as well for being dark. I’m surprised I can still cry tears instead of blood because those kids made me cry every day. Plus alot of them lived in the same neighborhood I did so I caught bullets double, even triple because my family made fun of me too. My grandma and my mom tried to lighten me. I was lost. I was called ugly. All of this on a daily basis.

I’m light skinned and ur story breaks my heart. I was teased horribly at home and in the community for my complexion. I was ok at school except for a couple of older guys who tried to rape me. One of our gymnastics coaches gave me pervert vibes too. The kids use to say to me that I wasn’t Black bc my skin looked like white people skin was mixed with it. I use to cry a lot too. I also stayed depressed. I sunburned myself horribly bc I wanted to get darker so badly. My daddy accepted my dark skinned sister but hated, beat me( almost to death one time) and denied me. Black women go through it; not just one toned sistas

It's always the dark skinned men with the hateful remarks. I don't think Tommy Joyner on the radio would joke about BW skin tone being dark and comparing it to an object. Why waste your time on such platform to make a joke that wasn't funny when there are other things to talk about.

this is the reason we are treated the way we are, other races see that we don't love and respect eachother, so why should they, no other race care about the complexion of people within their race but black people, it's so fucking ignorant, and immature, and of course sad, we can't blame all of this dumb shit on the white man, we are our worse enemies, not just the white race knows this, but every race know it, because people will treat you the way you let them, they can see we hate eachother, that's why they call us shitskin, because black people dred the thought of being black, because they want color, so they figure if they make us feel bad about our color they wouldn't feel so bad about not having color, black people can uplift every race except their own, sometimes I wonder is there any hope for us, probably some light-skinned black person is layed back saying well I got mine, I'm already light-skinned, soooooooo sad

I graduated Morehouse College and while there learned to appreciate our culture and diversity. I made friends from across the United States and the Caribbean and comprehend that the petty differences we latch onto like skin tone, dialect and economic status pale in comparison to the ties that bind us; we are more alike than different. It's rewarding to challenge our prejudices and grow to see a more inclusive perspective.
The best thing I received from Morehouse besides my degree was a safe place to heal from all the attacks that I did not even realize that I was reeling from. Seeing men behave like brothers based on what they had in common and not how they looked was different for me. It wasn't like that back home. But, I brought that back home with me. Judging by the content of one's character needs to occur within our communities too.
I love melanin rich women for several different reasons. Not just the beauty but the tenderness and strength also. Anyone who's spent time in the south has seen the remnants of slavery that still persists. Like the paper-bag test, and veins in the skin visible or not, 'The Letter of Willie Lynch' who taught division between light and dark & house and field to create hierarchy to better control the minds of slaves. So hatred of the dark skinned has an origin and a place within our cultural historically. It has to end. It is self hatred.
I think your message is timely and relevant and healthy. Ethnocentric is a love for one's own ethnicity. We need to embrace ourselves and not just for athletics, music, dancing and physical attributes. But for our minds, our hearts, our innovations and our rich culture. Culture which includes food, language, customs, spiritual beliefs and old traditions that we still have that originated in Africa (I dated a Nigerian beauty and learned this insight from her). I say all this to say that I appreciate your message and wholeheartedly agree and I still bump "Ball Headed Hoes" from time to time for nostalgia.

By pitting slaves against one another by each other skin color among other things like hair, size, intellect and such.
And due to the raping of the black slaves by the white slave owners those slaves children were born with light skin. Thus began the light skin slave being treated better than dark skin slave and the dark skin slave worked in the fields, and the light skin slave worked in the homes.

I'm in my 30s now and I got teased a lot as a child through my 20s for being dark-skinned. I definitely feel it plays a role in how I see myself today as it pertains to the eyes of my male counterparts. Especially in the age of social media where everything light and bright gets the props before the dark skinned chick. You heard the ignorant mess Gilbert Arenas said about Lupita. It's really getting old with the jokes especially from Rickey ol baser looking ass.

My mother is dark skin and my father is light skin both fully black, but I see where the beauty and even having thick hair came from, and it’s my beautiful mother❤. Its’s disgusting how this society tries hard to condition our people to hate our black beauty. We are so beautiful the dominate society, made laws for us to not wear our hair and hate our dark skin, that show’s insecurities of other to what we naturally have. Stay blessed and beautiful my sister and remember we are the blueprint of all beauty.

Now through all the Black history that is being taught your melanin is highly advanced and highly true beauty. Learn all about melanin this is why most are so jealous of you and this is why most people can't touch your intellect.
