Dude, I’ve watched your channel for a while and I gotta say I’m surprised it isn’t more popular.
You tackle some of the biggest questions writers and DMs deal with and you do it well.
Solid stuff, hope you blow up at some point.

Thanks so much, Ryan! That means a lot.
I think the biggest factor is the small amount of content since I only post once a month. If I keep going and people like you like and share, we'll get there eventually :)

Amazing stuff really made my creative juice flow.
I've been kinda stuck with my magic system, but just by watching the video I got multiple cool ideas. Thanks for that!

The first thing that came to mind for me with the mentality of desert is that there is an emotional/psychological cost to the magic those animal tenancies from the weakness are maybe bits of yourself invested in the constructs and some of those losses could be permanent thus making it very important to reclaim your magic when your done, but those animal tenancies want to survive and escape.

that would definitely be interesting. That might even expand to people being able to steal your magic from you growing in power and permanently damaging you in the process

I love this! I came here because I was about to buy your book recommended by another author named K. M. Weiland on her blog. I was just curious to see a little more about how you do magic systems, and that deck looks awesome. I'm over here tyring to figure out how I can replicate it with my Story Engine and Deck of Worlds cards, but I bet I'll get the Mythulu deck at some point xD Anyway, I'm off to buy your Magic Blueprint book now. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much! If you're interested, I do have a video specifically on how to use the Story Engine for building magic systems

Different strengths and weaknesses from Mythulu, but it should give you some ideas of how to start

Ok, I really liked Mythulu. I'm more into metaphors than straight answers, and just in your examples I could see the same cards inspiring different ideas. I'll check it out ^^

Excellent! I hope you enjoy them. Something I forgot to mention is that they do have an app as well if you'd rather use that. I like the cards though

I looovveee these card ideas!! Not long ago I came across some AuthorTubers who were using various tarot cards and oracle cards to come up with story and character elements. I’d be curious to know, as well as see your own method, as to how you would use them to help out with a magic system.

I love the one for disease! So basically your pets don't get sick but they interact with each other and spread a petrifying disease that causes the owners to turn into gemstones upon contact with their pet who has been infected!
It was so cool to watch your thought process on the Glass Shaping magic system!

Hopefully it helped your brain take the cards and spin them off in different directions as well. That's the great part of these kinds of creative tools, in my opinion

Just got my two decks along with some decks from Story Engine. They're all so awesome. I love how prompt cards sparks the imagination. I can do pretty good at thinking up, but it's really fun making a game out of it. I love how you can make magic systems with the cards, but I'd love it if they'd develop a magic system deck. If you worked with Mythulu, you could have your own cards through them. Like have a magic seed card for example. That'd be badass.

I would absolutely love to do that!!! I've been lucky enough to meet the creators of both tool sets and would love to collaborate with them on a magic-focused version of their tools.
If you (or anyone reading this) is up for it, making that recommendation to the Story Engine or Mythulu folks certainly won't hurt :D
@eldon: I hope you're enjoying your decks! I can't wait to get my hands on Mythulu Deck B

Gems and crystal: symptoms are slowly hardening joints, or body fluids, or maybe something like bladder stones or gout.
Spread by some sort of animal contact. Maybe grows and spreads like spores. So when you touch an animal that has been in contact, they can Burrow under your skin

@@themagicengineer5314 thanks! After I posted that I remembered that fungus that grows on ants and I was thinking a fusion between that and crystal growth would be wicked dark/creepy/body horror.

With money being scarce in the current economy, which would you recommend to get first: Mythulu or Story Engine?

    • @themagicengineer5314
      @themagicengineer5314  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Review the comparison I make at the end. But to simplify
If you need story ideas quickly and like straightforward ideas, consider the Story Engine.
If you like exploring metaphor and hate feeling like it's all spelled out for you, consider Mythulu

Magic pattern #2 is literally just capitalism, with "paid" being capital, "yin and yang" being the supposedly balanced free market, "bureaucrat" being investors and CEO's, and "catalyst" being the political power bureaucrats wield over ordinary people without sustaining any meaningful consequence themselves. anyways, Mythulu cards seem like a perfect fit for me, since I like to think in metaphors and abstracts

Interesting. I'll have to think on that more. I hope you enjoy the creation cards; they really are awesome!
