  • @Jayne1971
    @Jayne1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว +238

    From an "older" woman's POV (I'm 50). As a lot of people have commented, this is just what's trendy as opposed to aging. I've had the tight curls, the A-line Bob, the thick fringe, the thin wispy fringe, the tight pony, the looser pony, the side part, the middle part, the face framing layers, the scruffy layers, pretty much all of these hairstyles I've had at one time or another. And it's always been whatever happens to be in trend and suits my face shape. The ones considered aging will be back in trend soon enough, you'll see.

      I was thinking the same thing. I was glad he clarified this only applied to fake styled curls, not natural curls, but at the same time the 'not hot' one looks natural to me. The 'out of place' hairs kind of gives it away. They would have been laid down smooth if they were styled with a wand.

    This video isn’t about “aging” this is about trends. Some of these “hot looks” look terrible on certain faceshapes. There is a difference between a style aging you and a style being dated. A hairstyle that ages you (like the title implies) has a cut or style that dosnt suit your faceshape or color washes you out. Yes these cuts are what’s in and trending but if you truly want to look younger (not just trendy) you need to make sure the cut and color actually suit your faceshape and skin tone.
    These shag cuts though super cute and trendy can make you look dramatic older if not suited to your face. All that layering can draw attention to facial features and cast shadowing where you don’t want it. Just a thought

    Our obsession with women's youth is really uncomfortable. Men are allowed to age while women have to constantly worry how to look the youngest as we possibly can. And the beauty industry is THRIVING because of it. Teen girls are buying anti-wrinkle creams and 20-year-olds are getting botox. It's freaky and so harmful for women.

    The problem is once you reach a certain age, following the youthful trends can actually age you because it looks like you're trying to look like a teenager when you're clearly older. I think the best way to age gracefully is to adopt a more classic/timeless look. And there is nothing wrong with looking older and like a mature woman. Besides many of the "hot" looks just looked sloppy and unkempt to me. The pulled back ponytails always look harsh to me, so I would never wear a pony like that. I prefer a softer more feminine look. Honestly, I can't stand current trends, so I just do my own thing.

    Get real. This is all about how to get that clichè look in what is currently trending, NOT 'how to look younger'. Just because it looks hot on a celebrity does not mean they all will look hot on everyone. To look young is different for everyone depending on texture, facial features & ethnicities. Half the women on here are literally still young or look young because of plastic surgery & botox. But shit I suppose all middle age women should just slap on a current taylor swift or Selena Gomez style to look young again, how easy.

    honestly this is the first Brad video i’ve ever not liked :( nothing against Brad and no hate, but just the premise of the video and the underlying views that are hard to ignore. aging is not bad, aging is beautiful and a blessing so many people aren’t afforded. I also notice that this is very clearly only directed towards women (all the examples are women and all of the hairstyles are traditionally femme hairstyles)~ women are taught that aging is the absolute worst and most shameful thing, yet what about men? why aren’t men’s hairstyles that “might age them” a concern? why isn’t aging in general a concern for men?
    because men are not taught that their appearance = their value. men also aren’t taught that their youth or even ADOLESCENCE is the prime of their life. hollywood, the media, and mainstream culture (all dictated by and catered to patriarchy and the male gaze) are EXTREMELY p*dophelic.
    think it’s a coincidence that everything that’s “trendy and hot” and everything that’s considered “feminine” is all based around literal childlike features? nope. definitely no coincidence.
    we’re taught to want perfect, clear, “baby soft” (seriously, does it get more obvious or creepy?) skin, tiny waists that aren’t proportionate to a healthy adult body, long fake eyelashes mimicking that of literal babies, huge eyes and tiny almost nonexistent noses (like CHILDRENS because they’re still growing and their faces aren’t even fully formed and their features are proportioned differently than adults)….
    I could go on about this until i’m old and wrinkly and absolutely grateful to be so ~
    just some things to ponder. there’s a lot of context to media like this, and I feel it’s important it be recognized so it can begin to be dismantled.
    again no hate to brad, still watched 100% of the video and will be back next week like clockwork. just some thoughts

    I think it’s interesting how many people are surprised that the “hot” ones are just what’s trendy because if you wear a hairstyle that was quite trendy or iconic at one time people are automatically going to think of that time and incidentally how long ago that was making you seem older. Plus all the “hot” looks (apart from the bun and ponytail) are part of that “effortless beauty” trend that has been around for quite a while. And if for some reason you are upset, he is not telling you to get any of those hairstyles he’s just telling you what looks cool and hip (trendy) right now and will therefore make you look younger by default.

    The one I really don't agree is the JLo bun. That thing makes most women look matronly. It literally only works as an alternative to a face lift, which is then negated by the receding hairline.

    • @Rose-ew3fu
      @Rose-ew3fu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      these hairstyles are HORRIBLE for your hairline, and the temporary “face lift” effect will do more harm than good since it’s not actually engaging the face muscles or tissue it’s just manually pulling it back for a period of time which will likely just weaken the muscles and create more noticeable sagging when you’re not wearing the hairstyle. also totally agree with the matronly thing, this is only a “hot look” because it’s on people that are already hot and also have real face lifts already!😂 on anyone else gives Ms Trudgebull from Matilda vibes lol

But thatsOK because there is one thing Brad hates 100 X then brown hair. That would be short hair on women and not chin length short, I’m talking short hair. You know he hates it because he never shows or mentions it. Even though it is the most trendy haircut for some women.

    Sorry Brad … love your videos but you kind of missed the bus on this. This video is the epitome of why I hated my natural curly hair growing up and straight permed the shit out of it for a decade. Every ‘hot’ one is a person with thin and straight hair with curls added from a curling iron. I mean, you’re not wrong, that’s the aesthetic that’s been pushed forever, that the only hair that’s beautiful is straight … but like the hair you’re picking out as ‘not,’ this attitude is also a ‘not.’

    I definitely feel like colour & health of hair influences how these ‘age’ a person as well.
    Also I typically look younger than I am & it’s annoying because people treat me like I’m inexperienced at my job (I’ve been there 7+ years) so I’m constantly trying new styles to actually make me look my age (28).
    I know I’ll be grateful for that when I am much older but it can be annoying now.
