My brother and I share one in Colorado (a 2004 in blue) we bought used that I ride when I visit him out there - I have the predecessor St1100 (actually 2 of them, a 94 and a 2000)- they’re all great bikes, and I never think about getting a replacement bike. I’m 60 now, so I’ll likely hang on to the 2 STs I have. No bike is perfect and all bikes are a compromise, but the ST series does most tasks very well.
Be careful wrapping the pipes this has been proven time and time again that it's super heats the headers and then it breaks down the metal and it starts to crumble
I am a BMW R 1200 RT (2013) owner myself but the ST is a great bike. I ride a lot in very hot conditions and the heat that bike emits would be a deal breaker for me. When it's cold out I use my electric heated gear but when it's hot out it's hot out. I have a cooling vest which helps to some degree but I would choose riding in cooler to cold weather any day. I have 200 k km. on it and in my opinion it is the best touring bike made period. 74 yrs. young and when I get on the bike I feel like I am 16 again.
I picked up an '06 in August with 30K miles on it: it isn't mint & has almost new tires. I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I love it! I've already come to the conclusion that I won't ever sell it. 😍
Sorry I have almost everything you have but on my Honda VTX1300R, I have leather lowers that cover over the Crash bar and it allows the heat of the engine to come back and warm me up when in the cold or I remove the leather for summer and enjoy the wind. Very Versatile!
It's such a hot bike in the summer and the head buffeting is NOT good. But............I've had mine for years, and I'll keep it. I don't like the ABS. Ya never really know if the brakes work right.
@SharazKhan-v1b this has been gone over many many times and it is because of the way the stock windshield is designed. All you have to do is change the stock windshield so it doesn't create the vacuum Vortec in front of the rider's face causing a swivel or a death wobble.
@maghrebgamer2776 normally heavy gas consumption it's caused by O2 sensors being dirty throwing off your fuel economy because it's introducing too much fuel to the engine. Remove your O2 sensor and give it a thorough cleaning and then slap it back on
The ST1300 is the fifth-worst motorcycle I ever owned. The water pump and alternate went out on me in succession. When the bike get up to 60,000 miles the water pump will go out, $1,200 repair cost. At or over 63,000 the alternator will go out, another $1,200 in repair cost. Then the fuel pump will become intermittent until it failures completely and you will be left stranded. It was a pig to ride in LA traffic. Street Pig. Best of luck k to you.
@brillot2000 sorry you had a bad experience most people will never have those issues. Sounds more like you got one with a lot of Gremlins in the system that was slightly mistreated before you got your hands on it. My last one had 142,000 Mi on it and ran like the day it came off the lot
I owned my bike from 2004 for eight years, and it was a fantastic ride most of the time. I handled most of the maintenance myself, drawing on my 37 years of experience in riding and fixing motorcycles, along with my background in electromechanical engineering. However, one must consider the reality of time; if you lack the time, then money becomes your alternative. For instance, replacing the alternator costs $750 plus labor, and it sits between the cylinders at the top of the engine. That replacement job requires attention and effort. Tearing the entire top of engine starting at the airbox down. The throttle bodies and then further down. It did not either tools or time, so I went the money route.
its not a proper bike thats why its so cheap nobody wants them ...its for ppl that like scooters but want to ride a bike ...its a good engine for a car
@luiscardozo0000 going to be honest those are some pretty ignorant statements considering this bike was $20,000 brand new.... you say it's not a proper bike but it puts down over 120 horsepower can go 150 mph with only five gears and can pull a 0 to 60 in almost 3 seconds flat... I'm not quite sure where you got your information from but my guy something tells me you need to hit the books again. I've had over a hundred bikes in the past 10 years sport bikes Cruisers off-road Enduro you name it I've pretty much ridden it and out of all of those bikes this one is my favorite. I'm sorry you can't see past your own ignorance pretty bold statements that you made without any backing.
@luiscardozo0000 if you really want to know why they didn't sell very well it's because they were the same price as a Gold Wing with less features and short 2 cylinders. This put it in a weird marketing category then they followed it up with another failure the CTX once again another bike that ended up hitting the market that was overly priced and really had no place. The end result was it became a sought-after sport touring bike because after a while Honda realized they weren't going to make the money they thought they were and it pushed the bike into at lower marketing bracket which made them affordable. When that happened it's not that the bikes sucked it's that they became affordable for people that were looking for a reliable tutoring class bike without a few features and that is why the value has not decreased on these bikes since. I'm glad I could teach you something today maybe you'll drop that ignorance and become a little more open-minded
@@IFixShet im just saying you can get those bikes for less than 2k and its not for the quality because its the best quality its a honda and its indestructible but in some ways it kills the racing spirit of every bike needs to have a little bit and the hp is nothing for that giant slow car engine remember a 1988 zx10 can give 137hp and its a litter bike and have room for 2 too ...its for ppl likes scooters to me or for ppl tha likes bmw k series or maybe goldwings too😇
@luiscardozo0000 I'm going to say it again....The Yamaha YZF-R6 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 3.0-3.35 seconds and The Honda ST1300 can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 3.27 - 3.84 seconds. Your argument has just been thrown completely out the window. This is screaming fast 800 lb Touring bike to be able to keep up with an R6 tuned YZF power plant Yamaha race engine. And it's not that far behind the ZX10R, The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in around 2.7 seconds. Your whole argument just got completely blown out of the water now what?

I'm a FJR man myself but the ST is a great bike for sure.

I hear ya, the ST series is definitely a great platform!
Had one in Houston TX, Heat was un-Bareable, and yes did all the mods to reduce heat. That was the only complaint.
It's a keeper. Line fairings and under seat with insulation wrapped pipes problem solved
Be careful wrapping the pipes this has been proven time and time again that it's super heats the headers and then it breaks down the metal and it starts to crumble
i gave it to a friend to try it. he is a BMW 1200 GS rider. He had one word about the bike: impressive!
Heck yeah!

Probably the best decision you'll ever make just keep up with the maintenance and she will treat you good

I love that setup, sounds like a perfect balance of function and comfort!
Actually, you have to take the radiator off to work on the clutch.
I always loved Honda
Looked at these, but went Goldwing.
Either one will most likely fit your needs and make you a very happy person
Goldwing is a pain to change air filter though
Yeah it can be a little work getting the tank up to access it but for the most part it's an easy to work on bike most of the time

Police use those here, better than the BMW the had used, faster ,better handling and less maintenance demands.
Yeah I had a police version as my first one it was pretty sweet
My brother about stole his from an auction, then sold it for double. This was fast af
Yeah I bought mine for around $2,000 it was definitely a steal
Don't cry cup cake!
No tears here bro
I saw one with 820k yup looked like a shit box but 820!!!
That's absolute insanity
Interesting. What year is yours?
2005
It’s easier to work on than a BMW but not an FJR1300
That's because the FJR is more of a sport bike setup
my 2013 BMW R1200RT is real easy to work on.
@ have changed the clutch in that thing? Holy cow
ST 1300 was discontinued because of Vicious.Tank Slappet at high speeds

@SharazKhan-v1b but that's only if you're going excess of 90-100 mph which let's be honest you shouldn't be doing anyways
@@IFixShet Life begins at 100mph! No excuses!
No highway pegs? Ewww....................!
I actually think the pegs are perfect they sit right underneath you they're nice and wide you can ride for hours without problems
I have one that uses a lot of gas which is why I have to sell it
@@maghrebgamer2776 sounds like it's time for just a tune-up

I have never seen the trim that you have around your mirrors. Do you know where I can buy?
I average about 45 mpg
