  • This camping trip begins at Native Dog Flat camp ground, East of Omeo.
Heading out of camp the next day, we take on Limestone Creek Track.
This track has a number of very steep section that require caution on those steeper sections of the track.
Once we get up onto Davies Plain Track, it's quite an easy 4x4 track. The track winds it's through high country open grassy plains, with a number of great camping spots.
The drive along Davies Plain Track is well worth exploring in the Vic High Country.
The further you travel East in the Vic High Country, the terrain really changes.
This track over Davies Plain would be one of the premier 4WD tracks in the whole of the Vic High Country.
I highly recommend camping at Davies Plain Hut, it's a large grassy area surrounded by beautiful snow gums and you can look inside the historical mountain cattlemen hut thats in the camp ground.
Just remember that Davies Plain Track closes on May 30th each year, and doesn't re-open until November 30th each year.

Camped at Murry then Mcfarlans Flat ( the apparent highest vehicle access point on the Murry River) amazing spot.
(Just watch out for the jumping jacks) lime stone after seeing Stockman's Hut AKA Davey's. lots of brumby's.. Came in from the other end. Then the last trip the Beloka Ck broke bank and the trip was called off ( 2008) So this is again on the list of things to do. awesome video mate.

Hi Tim! Great vids mate. I am looking at taking my 4wd ute upto the Upper Murray to try and get as close to the source of the Murray as i can get, and bye the looks of my maps the closes i can get without doing too much hiking is at -36.794868, 148.171803 Is Cowombat flat track accessible via vehicle to the coordinates I have just given. The reason i ask is there is no videos on youtube of this track. I recon this would be the best track to take if it was open as it is pretty much one turn of the main track "Limestone Rd" and it takes you directly to were i want to go. If not my research tells me to go via cobberas track and then turn left onto MacFarlane flat track. would luv to hear your feedback.
Also I noticed that on Whereis maps call Limestone Rd "Limestone - Blackmountain Rd" however Google maps call it "Limestone Rd" can you please confirm what it is actually called. Note: I have not checked it out on hema maps as yet.
Cheers for Now and am looking forward to many more of your vids. Have a safe and wonderful New year.

      Hi Craig,
I haven't been to the start of the Murray River. I have been to the Poplars, which is the highest point in the Murray River that you can drive you 4wd.
One day I would like to hike into the head waters of the Murray, would be amazing to see.
As far as Limestone Road. I have driven Limestone Track many times which begins not far from Native Dog Flat. Its far from being a road, its pretty steep in spots and 4wd only.
I hope that helps you out a bit mate.
Happy New Year mate and plenty more videos are coming.

      @craigtsadventures7414 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@timbates4wdadventures Hi Tim! Thanks for the feedback. Poplars camp may be a good idea as i only have an unmodified 1997 holden rodeo 4WD. What a bugger there is not much info on Cowombat flat track to the Murray River. I am looking at going over that way in april next year, which should keep me out of the fire danger and before heavy snow. I will probably head for Cowombat flat track first via the Limestone Rd and take a look and see if Cowombat track still exists and if it is accessible. I know the limitations in my old girl "97 Rodeo" so if i think its a bit dangerous i will probably abort any attempt to reach the coordinates mentioned above.
      Thanks again Tim
and as always mate! Take Care and looking forward to the next lot of vids.
      Happy New Year!!!

Yeah for sure mate. The Poplars would be a good starting point, if you can walk in from that point.
