She’s only sang it twice live. Once for a stand up to cancer television fundraiser and the other time at a show Ronan’s parents were at. His mom had a blog about Ronan and his story that Taylor read. She actually gave co-writing credits to his mom for the song. Usually people watch the stand up to cancer video when they react to the song. Taylor made it through the song but there’s pictures of her after completely breaking down :(
Oh wow! It would make sense that she would sing it at those times, but I can’t imagine it being easy. I’ll have to check out the video. That awesome of her to give credits to the mom ♥️
This is only the second time through this song and I still cried for her. As a mother this breaks my heart.
She damn near didn't make it through the song....she had tears in her eyes. Succh a special lady.

Maya still has a blog. Taylor is Ronan's little sister Poppy (not her name) godmother, but Ronan called her in Maya's tummy 😊

One of her most lovely songs, without a doubt, but I can only handle it until she sings "my best four years," at which point I melt into a puddle. 😭
The level of empathy that Taylor must have in her soul to capture a mother’s pain like that. It’s one of her best songs but it’s soul scorching to listen to and it never loses its impact…
I listen to it I think about twice and I was just listening to it right now like a moment ago and I actually managed not to cry but the first day when I did hear it those two times I broke down into tears like I was an emotional crying mess such a beautiful song yet it's so sad
This song hits even harder knowing that, after it was written, Taylor's own mother was diagnosed with cancer, went into remission, and then was rediagnosed in 2018. In 2019 Taylor released the song "Soon You'll Get Better" on her "Lover" album 😭❤️
Ronan really is something else 😫😭 i cry within the first 5 seconds
Taylor contacted Maya, Ronan’s mom, when she decided to add it to the Red TV’s version to ask for her permission. Maya, of course, said yes. The proceeds from what I understand still go towards cancer research like the original did. It’s hard to listen to but I think it’s a great tribute and it helps others in need. I never skip it when I’m listening to the album but I do have to mentally prepare myself before it comes on.

every once in a whole, i come across a reaction to Ronan, it's insane, I HAVE TO watch it for, i think, obvious reasone and EVERYTIME it hits way to hard. can't think straight for an hour and gotta go wash my face everytime. also hitting oder videos after to make the algorithm not show me every Ronan Reaction there is. I personally thing this is Taylors most precious and somehow most personal performances. also. FUCK CANCER dammit. RIP Ronan. thank you for this song, even though it makes the world cry, i think it raises awareness which is incredible.
I had to mentally prepare myself when I saw this was the song you were reacting to. Its Taylor Swift so she makes sure you feel everything in her writing. It's a beautiful song and I love that she did this for that family. However, I just can't listen to it. I cry as soon as the song begins. As a mother myself, my heart just breaks for that mom.
I had a brother who died of cancer he would’ve been 27 today he had a WHOLE life ahead of him instead cancer took him away at the age of 10 in June 2006 whenever I hear this song I cry Every. Single. Time thinking I wasn’t going to cry and I cry anyways😢😢

I was there one of the only times she sang it live. It was absolutely heart crushing. I’m so happy that she put it on the album though it is hard to listen to. I’ve never made it to the end without tearing up.

The saddest thing ever is that in the song she says: "you were my best four years" but the truth is that she made it live him four years, in reality, this poor and little soul, died at 2 years old.
Taylor is such a pure soul and that's why she perfomed this song just two times, because i think nobody could handle that performance just thinking about this little boy who had a whole life in front of his eyes, and (his life) it was completely token away.
If you also notice at one point of the song, after the bridge if i'm not wrong, Taylor takes a little breath, sign of her in the studio being like this was the first time she recorded the song, the same pain.
Sending so much love to the family, i can't even imagine the pain of them.
That isn’t true he was 3 years and 363 days old when he died.
Sometimes experiencing one moment of someone’s life is enough to last forever…🙏

Everyone cries. Her voice cracking says it all. I believe she only sang it live once to the child's mother at a fundraiser.
I feel bad that you went into this with no backstory. This is truly the saddest song I’ve ever heard and the lyrics are in his mom’s words from her blog. So brave.
Taylor sang it live twice. It’s hard for her to do it and it’s an incredibly personal song. Rowan’s mom is so brave to do this and raise so much money in her son’s memory to help with childhood cancers.
It’s a tough one to react to especially when you don’t know what’s coming . The best reaction to this is to just let the song speak for itself ❤️

I don't know how many time i listen to this song. But again, this made me cried in the morning..
She did sing it live when Ronan's mother Maya was in the audience. She credited Maya as the cowriter on the song, because she took pieces of what Maya wrote on her blog about Ronan and turned them into lyrics. Even if you don't do it as a reaction, you should watch that performance. It's beautiful.

I read that the family had a baby girl around 2013 I believe, her middle name is Ronan.
I saw her perform this song during the 1989 concert in Glendale AZ. Ronans Mother was in the audience that night.

@@ohef17 Yes, Taylor said she was from the Glendale (the Valley) area. Taylor had guest stars at all her performances but ours. She sang Ronan as his mother was in audience. She was the guest appearance. ❤️

I'm not sure I ever really gave this one a chance before and really heard the whole song until watching your reaction now. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to really listen to and take in the whole thing.
It is really powerful poetry and really simple and especially paired with the photos and it's super powerful. It's not my favorite musically and doesn't span the depths of emotion that I think some of her other songs do, even when it comes to grief and cancer I feel like I like some of her other songs better. (Marjorie, Breathe, Soon You'll Get Better, even songs like Haunted and All You Had To Do Was Stay speak to me on a grief level even if they're about breakups... even Never Grow Up has so much more range of emotion.) (and this song isn't personal about her own child but it's from the point of view of a mother, so I think it lacks something because of the lack of personal connection.)
This song knows what it's trying to be though. It's stuck on one aspect of grief, the bittersweet emotion of the good memories in spite of how sad it all is now, the music is simple to match, the melody and harmony doesn't stray much and is semi-monotonous, because that's how it can feel when you're in early intense grief like that over your own child, like everything is dulled and it's hard to just... feel much of anything. The song is definitely growing on me now.
As for your reaction - I love so much watching how fully you put yourself into feeling this one and didn't need to say much, your eyes often said it all ;)
It’s a beautifully simple song that just hits you right in the gut. There have been so many times when the song has come on and I’ve had to change it. Not because I don’t like it, but because it’s so difficult to listen to at times.
