She said she wrote this song after reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It's from the pov of a wife devoting her entire life to her husband but he doesn't even care.
The line "tell me now if it's all in my head" and the way she ends the song with "I sit and watch you" is actually genius! It's like how a character in a movie kills someone in a dramatic outburst but then snaps back to reality where he's just sitting across the person he wants to kill with a fake smile 😁
The ambiguity of perspective is masterful. It’s not deterministic. It’s not an imposition. The narrative of this song implicates anyone who has not felt loved or appreciated enough by the people they give themselves completely to (probably Pisces risings like myself).
These track 5’s are getting seriously intense - I’m actually starting to fear them- not gonna lie when I first listened to this album I skipped track 5 and went back to it after the last track evermore - I don’t recommend doing that - I got a double whammy
Lol, this comment wins. Taylor loves to bring power to her track fives. Like in Speak Now, "Dear John," in Red, fucking "All Too Well," in Reputation "Delicate," in Folklore "My Tears Ricochet," and now in Evermore goddamn "Tolerate It."
it was inspired by the book) "During her interview for Apple Music Awards 2020, Taylor stated that she wrote “tolerate it” based on a book she was reading entitled Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and how she had felt like Rebecca at some point in her life: When I was reading Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and I was thinking, ‘Wow, her husband just tolerates her. She’s doing all these things and she’s trying so hard and she’s trying to impress him, and he’s just tolerating her the whole time. There was a part of me that was relating to that, because at some point in my life, I felt that way."
Everyone talked about how it ends with her accepting his toleration of her but I hear it more as the song circling back to the beginning and she’s still watching him in that one moment
You mentioned all the reasons why I love this song so much. It's easily in my Top 5. The lyrics make me sad but the music gives me comfort. Great review. :)
This song in particular (these two albums as a whole) feels like a master class to me in songwriting. The lyrics, the harmonies, the music and production. One could sit and study it for awhile. This song is so affecting to me. I feel like it speaks to different relationships in my own life. PS. I listened to your band's single and really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
I cannot believe I accepted being tolerated. I thought the ‘love’ I felt made it worthwhile. Embarrassingly relatable but at least I stay single now rather than settle
After this I’m so glad track 6 is a lighter song even if it does include lying cheating and murder - ok saying that now I think I need to get my head checked - but once you listen to No Body No Crime you’ll get it
She says she can leave him but the song ends with her saying I sit and watch you
Ooof 😳😳😳

Or the crown she was watching diana and charles
@@gloomydaysunshine8656 That fits perfectly! But she's already clarified that it's about Rebecca here: th-cam.com/video/CQacWbsLbS4/w-d-xo.html
So glad that this was not a real situation that Taylor dealt with. Whew! Rebecca is a real gothic type story.
My top 1. Yes, I like to be sad. Yes, I am a Taylor Swift lyric glued together.
sammmmmmeeeeee
YES! I feel like this song is so underrated even tho it’s track 5
At the end of the song she tolerated him tolerating her

A track 5 is a track 5 for a reason, right?
Can't wait for the next one...
evermore is a masterpiece

Just watching your facial expressions while you listen is gold, you can just see the thoughts light up!
The slow build up and layering of the pain she invokes is masterful

Love your reaction as always💕💕💕💕 excited for track 6 and 10
5:47 kills me .
This song is the perfection of genius songwriting and storytelling. If anyone doesn't think so, then they do not know Taylor at all.
I love watching your reactions to her lyrics
You're so cute when you try to sing the "aaahhh (3:10)" and the the chuckles after that. Hahaha.
Yes Taylor is an absolute genius!
I cannot believe I accepted being tolerated. I thought the ‘love’ I felt made it worthwhile. Embarrassingly relatable but at least I stay single now rather than settle
Can't wait for the two bonus songs.. Can't wait til my order arrives
AND THIS WAS JUST MINUTES AGO TOO IT IS 2 AM I LIVE FOR THIS

Bingo. She does all she can to see him happy and loved, he barely even notices she’s in the same room.
Yes you're on point.
Love your evermore reactions ♡
This literally was my reaction like wow
It's like the opposite pov of exile.
This is probably my favorite. It guys you.

Please, react to cowboy like me by Taylor Swift, it's also the song from evermore, thank you😊
I think it’s about a father daughter relationship

I think this is in the perspective of a Child and a Father.
you couldn't be further from the truth.
Well Zayn you better appreciate Dorothea and not just tolerate it
I could be but the bridge says otherwise haha..Most accurate is about husband and wife :)
