I also loved how the Leftovers explored the themes of order and chaos. I came away feeling that it taught me how both are different sides of the same coin. One can't exist without the other, but one also negates the other. It's a paradox. A battle. A dance. And it's something we all must cycle through continuously in our own lives. The sooner we learn to accept and embrace both rather than trying to hold on to or push away either, the sooner we learn to live our lives with grace.

The most underrated show of all time for sure, They deserved much more credit for that, but it could've also became bad if it would be much more popular. I think the whole series is a process. Season one shows us the darkest moment of (intends of) grief after the sudden departure. Season two is the characters trying their best to feel better, and not accomplishing it, but at least there is some bright light for moments. And season three has the answer: what you need to move on is not knowing what happened, instead having around and appreciate the people who still are there with you. Love is still worthing

To me it seems as if they were all existing in a simulated universe, very similar to a combination of the Sims and Second Life. Their world is a diverse mixture of characters, some autonomous, some NPCs programs, and possibly participants from 'our reality' immersed in the simulation. You had cowboys hanging out with Buddhist monks, nuns mingling with pagan revelers, cops milling about the town dealing with circus clowns, party people and a variety of animals. Strange, random events occurring, changes in the environment and landscape. People who were supposedly dead or killed, RESPAWNING multiple times, some of which had different personalities and memories. A glitch in the matrix or a moderator/programmer altering the parameters of the simulation at will perhaps? Think about the scene in the after life purgatory hotel, where Kevin had to CHOOSE a set of clothing in a closet that would determine what his role would be in THAT simulation, that is straight out of the gaming world, like GTA.
Still the absolute best TV show ever made. I find it so strange it never got the attention it deserved from the masses, but in someways, it made it all the more special for those of us who experienced it.
The Leftovers is still to this day the best series i have ever seen. Its simply AMAZING. I still find myself thinking about this show on a monthly basis. If you ask me thats testament to how good it is.

The main reason that the show raises a lot of questions it's due to its deconstructive nature. This show de-naturalizes ideas just to play with the audience's expectations, starting from the search for meaning behind everything in the show. The common systems of belief are purposely subverted and the existential crisis is also unusual in its nature, raising questions in the opposite way that it usually does: The Leftovers doesn't explore the meaningless of life but rather life as a punishment as the departed are more priviledged than those who remained to grief. Also, the propensity to surrealism is also amazing, exploring an ambiguous limit between reality and dream and generally between plains of existence, external and internal, real or magical/mythical.
@@spicnspan981 Yes... And no. I got different viewpoints on my two watches of the last episode. I suppose if you're asking: Did they give a DEFINITIVE answer? Then, no, they do not. But this show was never about those who disappeared, it was about those who remained, hence the title: The Leftovers
A video about Lost, then Westworld (with ideas that I happen to agree) now this, my top show. You gain another subscribe. Thanks for the work you put into this videos.
For me not answering the questions you proposed in your show is like telling me “ I have no idea, I’m just rolling with it, I don’t know how to write a satisfying story” yes sometimes you don’t need to answer everything, or the answers aren’t satisfying, but still that will fill the void somehow, it’s just my personal opinion, I will watch the show maybe i will change it
There are favourite shows. There are important shows. I think this is an important show. It shows how as a humanity we are in fragile state and we are one disaster from kinda crazy to batshit but not in Hollywood way. It's very important to understand this show.
I think it was a great show. However as naturally dissatisfied as I am regarding the ending, it's not necessarily because they didn't answer questions. Lost was built on too many characters that it seemed the writers were stuck between a rock and a hard place when they knew they finally had to answer questions regarding the island, and furthermore every single character (almost). This is probably why it was met with mixed reviews. Leftovers was similarly a fantastic story, based on a forever interesting concept of religion and 'what happens when we die'. I don't feel many stories have dealt with it as well as this series. Now I do feel lost was a learning curve that trying to answer all these questions can be less interesting than leaving the audience think for themselves. But the final episode seemed to answer more the loving relationship of the main character over the actual core of the entire storyline. It's as though they forgot that this was not a love story between these 2 characters, rather a story about characters and their way of adapting after a strange anomaly. Much so that I didn't really care about their romance, as the constant drive has not been in that direction, it involved many characters. Many episodes are slightly dated in it's slow paced way, but the final episode was a great one off love story, that would be best fitted as a budget student film. As the episode pressed, I felt worried that it wasn't going to deliver. So much that I kept googling convinced there must be another episode, or series remaining. It didn't deliver. The parallel world, another dimension answer was great. However it rendered much of the religious jargon obsolete. Left me thinking that forcing religion down the audience's throat to then conclude it wasn't really anything to do with religion at all, is ultimately rather lame. Yes they didn't actually conclude it wasn't religion based but let's be honest, it wasn't was it. It was potentially the hand of God the same it was when marley died in Marley and me. Again I must reiterate, the extent of how forced the final episode was in giving the audience an end to a romantic drama. What does that mean when you look back on Kevin and his James bond style afterlife experiences. Was that a dream? I mean no, he died for hours, several times and always came back. But the significance of this dwindles when you realise religion wasn't a part of it. Patty became nothing more than a driving force for more destruction. The guilty remnant's mysterious ways became nothing more than a cult, a group who knew nothing more than the rest of us. All these long drawn out dramatic scenes were fabulous to watch, but lose credibility in the shows conclusion.
The most I could take away from your video, is that I shouldnt watch The Leftovers at all. Because you liked lost and thought it was great. I assume, that the leftovers will follow the same concept. The mystery box. And I hate that mystery box, which is only in existence for the sake of it. Thank you for your time, you saved me from wasting mine.
It doesn't follow the mystery box at all, in fact the creators made a point of saying from the beginning that the main mystery would never be solved, its about the character in the aftermath
I’m familiar w/ the Bible. Season 3 has biblical episodes, like the metaphor of Book Job, Book of James n so on, but the Bible was creatively written as a metaphor for spirituality. There’s a a later Ep. In season 3 based on the internal conflict. All of it is based on the human condition. I liked the ending.
I've just finished Season 1 and loved it ... getting onto Season 2 and 3 now so will get back to this AFTER I have finished the Series - sad it ends at only 3 seasons, I was hoping for a 4th. But yes ... even after just seeing Season 1 I had to get the other seasons and I am not easily impressed by many TV series. By the way ... Tin Star is also an amazing show with Tim Roth - just FYI.
Watched the show when it aired and recently rewatched it with my partner through lockdown. Probably THE best TV show of the last 10 years (IMO of all time). For a show with such a high concept to pull of the most low key, quiet and yet perfect finale of all time is again IMO perfection and a masterclass in story telling. Everything from the music to the individual character arcs was just pure genius. Such a shame it never received the recognition commercially that it deserved.
Great video but you should REALLY take the "no spoilers" out of this title. There are SO many spoilers in here. If I'd watched this before the show I would have been extremely mad. In a show like The Leftovers where the core content is the exploration of ideas and analysis of ambiguous information, talking about the character arcs are literally the main content of the show. Talking about how "we can't know the answers but the true meaning is how we and the characters come to terms with that" is literally the epic conclusion the entire show builds towards. Telling someone that before hand totally undermines all the red herrings and misdirection the show meticulously builds up over three seasons. Knowing that from the start effects how the entire journey is perceived.
Yeah, I wouldve been upset if I saw this. After the first season I was furious the show gave me no answers and wanted to quit, but I kept watching and finally understood everything the show was trying to tell me from the beginning. Going through that journey is an essential part of the viewing experience. I wouldn't tell anyone what the show is about besides giving the vague "people struggling with their lives after 2% of the world mysteriously vanish." That's all you need to know going in and to not have anything taken away from a first view.
I loved Lost but comparing it to The Leftovers is like comparing Saturday morning cartoons to Casablanca. The Leftovers is the best show I’ve ever watched. I’m a Breaking Bad fan so that’s saying a lot!
The Left overs movie is in my opinion one of the Best *Ever! * and I will tell you why...1# This Event is profisized in the Bible and it shows Exactly how..it could play out.. FOR Real.. ( the Guilty remnent.. selling of manufacturerd Burial figures..Ett..) Leftovers will be A series That will Be Honored for the rest of Eternity..the Cast and crew..I hope will one day receive the Credit For Producing no Doubt one of the Best cenomatic movies / Series EVER!! from the Excellence in storytelling..to the musical sound track..and most importantly THE ACTING WAS TRULY SUPRIOR..and Kudos to Lindelof and Tom perrotta and thank you to all who where involved in this ORIGINAL AMERICAN MASTERPIECE.... that is ** THE LEFTOVERS **
I thought the ending to this series was pretty cool. SPOILER: there was a split in the universe at the moment of the departure. So if Nora lost her whole family in universe 1, her whole family lost Nora in universe 2. If 2% of people departed in universe 1, 98% of people were lost in universe 2. It's a pretty crazy theme. The one thing that I wish they delved more into was Holy Wayne cause his story line was really interesting.
I interpreted the ending more as "Nora says there was a split in the universe". :) The show is largely about the things we tell ourselves to give answers to life's mysteries; the characters are all dealing with the Departure by convincing themselves of their own stories and explanations. Holy Wayne would be one example of that, which I think is the reason why they never confirmed whether he was a fraud or "the real deal". They chose not to show Nora in the "split universe", and I think the main reason for that is that the show wants us to have some doubts about it. The important thing is that the story provides Nora with an explanation and the satisfaction she could never find.
The thing I wanted to know most was how the Guilty Remnant was getting insane amounts of money. They never once explored that, ever. They just rolled around buying churches and having a video game infinite money glitch to go eat out whenever they wanted and shit lol
Out of all the TV Shows on this planet "The Leftovers" will always remain my absolute favorite. It truly is a masterpiece. Watch all of it, you won't regret it.

The rant path that you almost visited for lost... killed me. :D
I just watched the series 3 finale... twice. What a show. Something that truly gets better series after series.
May I ask. Do you finally get any answers in the final???
@@spicnspan981 Yes... And no.
I got different viewpoints on my two watches of the last episode.
I suppose if you're asking: Did they give a DEFINITIVE answer?
Then, no, they do not.
But this show was never about those who disappeared, it was about those who remained, hence the title: The Leftovers
@@jameswebber359 appreciate your reply James. Do you ever find out what happened to the 2 % of people that disappeared . Where and why they went???
@@spicnspan981 SPOILERS
No, you don't.
This show hit harder than any other show I've ever seen
A video about Lost, then Westworld (with ideas that I happen to agree) now this, my top show. You gain another subscribe. Thanks for the work you put into this videos.
Thank you bro. Finally, closure to this bloody series.
Thanks for putting my thoughts into words, I'm going to share this regularly with people.
For me not answering the questions you proposed in your show is like telling me “ I have no idea, I’m just rolling with it, I don’t know how to write a satisfying story” yes sometimes you don’t need to answer everything, or the answers aren’t satisfying, but still that will fill the void somehow, it’s just my personal opinion, I will watch the show maybe i will change it
very professional video...highly underrated
One of the BEST SHOW EVER!
Great video. This and Lost are both near the top of my list.
Life is full of mysteries, twists, turns and legos.
Whithout seeing the series and knowing what happens my opinion is that the answer is proton decay. The Departure is a glimpse into the far future.
There are favourite shows. There are important shows. I think this is an important show. It shows how as a humanity we are in fragile state and we are one disaster from kinda crazy to batshit but not in Hollywood way. It's very important to understand this show.
Just found your channel, I love content like this. I'm subscribed so keep it up
Your videos are extremely well done. Just subbed after seeing your Lost video on AV Club. Awesome stuff.
Trying to find a new show to start. Never heard of this show. Thanks for the video. Im starting it now:-)
Jessica Barkman did you like the show ?
I recently finished this masterpiece!!
It's like a Fight Club put into tv series frame. Great show!
Saosinn Mr Robot
What really sold me on this show was episode 3. That was the most uncomfortable episode that made me so nervous
The Velo In The Vale prepare for season 2 best season of any TV serie ever made... An the third season is the perfect final for a perfect show
thinking about the leftovers on this fine Tuesday afternoon
Watched the show when it aired and recently rewatched it with my partner through lockdown. Probably THE best TV show of the last 10 years (IMO of all time). For a show with such a high concept to pull of the most low key, quiet and yet perfect finale of all time is again IMO perfection and a masterclass in story telling. Everything from the music to the individual character arcs was just pure genius. Such a shame it never received the recognition commercially that it deserved.
This is the second video i've watched on your channel and i am starting to think that u r goddamn genius
Knowing that from the start effects how the entire journey is perceived.
oh no! I just watched this as i wanted to start watching. Guess theres no point now...
I love your analysis, very beautiful
I loved Lost but comparing it to The Leftovers is like comparing Saturday morning cartoons to Casablanca. The Leftovers is the best show I’ve ever watched. I’m a Breaking Bad fan so that’s saying a lot!
Mr. Robot is the best show of the last decade. The Leftovers is up there though.
So the show is not going to explain anything just like life.. well thank you I am in that show already then.
Why you shouldn't watch it till THE END: she went there, then she came back... Wow, what a surprise! I never could have figured it out...
Couldn't agree with you more 👏 👍 on Lost comments
Keeping Life interesting and choices to improvise.
Best tv series ever.
Loved this. So original.
Ok. Thanks so much.
I’m on S1:E3
Out of all the TV Shows on this planet "The Leftovers" will always remain my absolute favorite. It truly is a masterpiece. Watch all of it, you won't regret it.
Kali Celeste curious. did you keep watching?
Will Ramirez yes I did. It’s good
I cried every damn episode of this show
