As a first year in undergrad when I was 18 I drank and partied too much. I ended up flunking out of school with the right to appeal that decision. I was terrified of telling my parents, and when I told them they were livid but they never stopped believing in me. I got back into school the next year (on academic probation for the year), completed my degree, completed another one and am now doing my PhD. This story is particularly horrifying for me because situations like this can be resolved.
I think many teenagers need a breather/break immediately after high school. Time to mature a bit, and get back into the groove. College is a totally different animal than high school.
i basically flunked out of college and never went back. it was never enough of a shame for me to fabricate a story about, but i never let my parents see my college records either. i went on to marry a girl i met in college and eventually became a software developer earning six figures, sort of the path chandler wanted to pursue if he could ever quit playing games all day. but he chose the "kill your parents and make a joke of hiding the evidence" path. sucks for him!
I think they can be resolved for most people. This guy is just missing something. A soul maybe?? A conscience?? I believe if this situation with his parents had not happened he would have still ended up killing someone. Possibly a wife or child. He could’ve ended up being another Chris Watts. For him, the only person that ever mattered was him. Sad
Just because your parents never stopped believing in you doesn't mean other people's parents would be the same?! It seemed like Chandler's dad hated him and wanted to humiliate him but scheduling a meeting and forcing Chandler to go. You have ZERO idea of what went on behind closed doors in this family or what his relationship with his parents was like.
Good thing Mejio! By you sharing this you just gave people hope to have a second chance to get things right! I’m pretty impressed. God bless you on your journey in life.., peace be with you. 🌿🕊🌿🕊
I had a friend who made up his entire life, he'd tell me stories that I had no idea weren't true. I accidentally found out he was lying and it led to him threatening me at one point. I just realized how lucky I was that he didn't kill me. 😟
i had an ex like this he had made up an entire backstory for himself and everything. this story is very sobering because i realize that i’m lucky that’s all he did
What about the girlfriend? It will presumably take years to get over this. They had sex in the period right after he dismembered his parents. Does it get any creepier?
When Chandler’s brother was hospitalized for type 1 diabetes and was given a lot of attention and concern by the parents, within a week or so, Chandler ALLEGEDLY fell down the stairs and caused a brain injury and/or neck injury. He was then lavished with attention too. Funny thing is that it was a split level home!
@@whitepouch0904 It has been two years since I watched the trial. I cannot agree or disagree with you. If It was mention, then you shared another possibility.
I think we can see how he failed his I.T. course if he didn’t even understand that it could easily be identified where e-mails and texts were sent from.
Absolutely. Everyone goes through a rough patch where they don't know what they want in life. Even with all the lies, his parents would have understood his situation and guided him to a better path but he didn't give them that chance. He destroyed his entire family
I agree. Love seeing Dr Grande's take on cases. A million subscribers........congratulations. Just love your presentation and insights. His parents probably would have supported him, IF he had come clean. Such a shame.
There are people who had terrible childhoods who could only dream to have lovely parents like his. He received abundant love and still did away with them. It's hard to fathom how somebody could do that. By some articles I read, his parents were very good people who were loved. What a shame.
I discussed Chandler Halderson with my 15 1/2 year old son. I wanted him to understand that whatever path he chooses I will love and support him …..but honesty and open communication is key to his success and happiness. My heart breaks for Bart and Krista Halderson …..they truly seemed like loving, hardworking people that didn’t deserve what their son did to them!
Your 15 year old son needs a better role model than Chandler Halderson. Also you should be concerned about your safety after giving him such terrible ideas.
I simply can’t comprehend how someone would do this. How he was able to do this to the people that raised him then systematically dismember and dispose of them is just truly disturbing
This case is too close to home. (The murders happened less than 5 miles from my home). And my friends noticed the smell around that time as well. It was odd. It is so sad. His parents didn’t deserve this and his older brother lost his whole family. 😞
It seems Chandler was jealous of Mitchell’s success. Even being so jealous of the extra TLC Bart & Krista bestowed upon Michell after his diabetes dx / hospitalization to (HIGHLY LIKELY) fake a tumble-&-fall down the stairs. Then proclaiming a concussion, headaches, walking issues, etc. Even occasionally sporting a neck-brace. 🙄 Yes. Mitchell lost his entire family (sans his fiancé) all due to Chandler’s GREED & COWARDICE. 😡🤯😡
@@Daniel-fq5vq you are probably right, but you do find very strange things in the water around here and I have found drowned pets, etc so it is not as far fetched as it sounds.

This story is what my Grandma called a "Crying Shame". He had the support to be what he wanted to be but he didnt want to do the work. He was sick and grossly maladjusted. There was no mention of him being abused or in fear of his father's cruelty. ----sad story. Great job. God bless you Doc. Have a good weekend!
Seems to me that it would be easier to go to school and have a job than remembering all the lies he told and dismembering his parents and scattering them. Eager to hear your millionth video topic!
I’m sitting at work and said to myself let me check if Dr. Grande hit 1M and now I’m crying. I’m so happy for him! I’ve never rooted for anyone on YT as I did for this man. Been here when he had less than 100k subs. Can’t wait to celebrate w everyone on that 1M special video that I know is coming…. Now on to this video. 🥳🥰♥️🙌👏👏👏
You made one million subs. Congrats. You deserve it. When I’m at chemo and/or radiation, I start watching your videos and u end up on the big screen at the infusion center. Everyone absolutely loves you. You make us all smile....and makes us happy to see the criminals go to prison. Thank u so much for being so awesome. Much love from Kentucky, Lesley and Service Dog Jake.
This guy wasn’t even close to getting away with it. Talk about the Dunning Krueger effect. This guy who can’t pass an intro level class at a low key college nevertheless thinks he can commit the bloody murder of his own parents in his home and get away with it.
right, I mean even if it wasn't for all the mountain of evidence they found against him, the very fact that cctv shows his mum arriving home on Thursday night and we never see her or Bart leave, when the only other person in the home is Chandler, that's really evidence enough.
He really did do a terrible job of attempting to cover up their murders. I thought, he can’t be that dumb, he MUST’VE wanted to get caught… Dunning Krueger indeed 🤦♀️
Wtf....who could do this?? I know the guy was a liar but really, do you kill your parents because you don't want to face your lies? This guy was more than a little messed up.
I think financial reasons too, him and his brother would have inherited a million dollars from insurance and other material assets in case of parents death.
Your analysis, Dr. Grande, was the most succinct, comprehensive summary I've heard from anyone! I sat through the entire trial and have watched many true crime commentators discuss this fascinating (yet grisly) case, but what has been missing for me is the psychological analysis of this kid. WHY did he kill his indulgent, loving, patient parents? Thanks for providing the answer. And your comments regarding listening to one's gut was excellent. Keep up the awesome work!
You’re almost at the 1 million subscriber milestone, Dr. Grande! You totally deserve it and thank you for your informative, interesting and engaging content that explores a diverse range of topics, your dry wit and humor and your knowledge and expertise in mental health. You work so hard to make these great videos and I love your channel. EDIT: WOOHOO! It’s official- 1 million subscribers!!! So happy for you! Congratulations, Dr. Grande!!!! 🎉
Dr Grande, I am watching the trial at the moment. What a horrific crime, he sits unmoving throughout the entire gruesome process. Great prosecution team, but the poor defence team really had nothing to offer in mitigation. You look pretty Grande today Doctor! 🇬🇧
The defense didn't even try. They put together a word salad and hoped for the best. They knew this case was closed well before the doors on the courtroom ever opened.
"Technical Genius" - Sends text messages from the house, claiming to be from somewhere else. I guess he thought he could fool the cell tower, "pinging" that message. I see why he failed the IT class.
Please pray for his poor brother, Michell, who now is suddenly and tragically orphaned in such a traumatic way. Plus the poor fellow only recently hsd a life altering diagnosis for which his parents were able to emotionally support and bolster him as much as possible. This young man will remain the primary victim of this crime throughout the remainder of his days. Please send him your healing prayers. Thank you.
@@shdz57 No amount of money is going to fill the hole left by this horrific event. If he has kids, they will never meet grand parents on his side. All that said, I'm glad he got some money and I hope that it helps.
I lied my parents that I was going to English language classes, instead I went to a biggest store in the city and bought myself donuts, lemonade and traveled endlessly on the escalators up and down. My parents got suspicious because I knew the exact price of many goods. It was back in the 70 ies and I was about 9 or 10. Back then we were going to school or after school activities by ourselves. I still remember the shame when I was discovered.
I think the dad’s Fitbit pinned down his time of death pretty well. When i was watching the trial I was bawling when they described finding pieces of their burned heads in the fireplace. And his girlfriend’s testimony was heartbreaking.
@@ririimari Oh, from this video I got the vibe he was an only child (as no sibling was mentioned and he was so indulged). Damn, that’s awful. He must feel so alone in the world now.
I feel bad for his brother. Chandler took so much from him. I hope he's doing ok (as ok as he possibly can) through all of this. Congrats on 1 million subs, Dr. G!
I have an additional analysis to offer in this case : Chandler has an older brother, Mitchell, who was successful, lived at his own place, had a job, had a girlfriend, seemed happy. This contrasted a lot with Chandler's make believe land. There could have been an inferiority complex, especially when Chandler was grounded by his parents at 22 years old, which is humiliating. He made up everything to not suffer from his laziness and shelter himself from critics. When those critics werr about to hail on him, he hubristically thought that it would be easier to kill and dismember his parents than to search for a job. He also made up an injury to receive the same attention as his brother who had become ill recently. This reminds me of Munchausen syndrome. All in all, Chandler was the most short-sighted arrogant fool to ever live, because his lies were bound to be discovered a few weeks after he was making them up. Receiving no salary, no degree, not working when he shouldve been working, the list goes on. I think we should all have a thought for Mitchell. He knows that his own brother murdered his parents for no reason other than pride, selfishness and greed. There was indeed a life insurance policy on them, who wouldve benefited Chandler. A tragic story committed by a prideful traitor.
there is no evidence that Chandler was ever grounded by his parents, on the contrary according to students that knew him when he was living at the college campus being grounded was a lie he would often use on Cat in order to get free time away from her to see other girls.
Also I don't think his motive in killing his parents had anything to do with him not wanting to get a job, actually immediately after killing them he wrote a "to do list" that included getting a job on it. Rather I think his motive was solely about not being exposed as a liar, particularly to his gf Cat, you will note he sent some text messages to her in the days after killing his parents where he questioned if she would leave him if the space-x job fell through, he knew it was important to Cat to be with a productive and successful man.
the head injury lie was also a convenient excuse as to why he could not take the space-x job and it seems he actually got the idea for it from his army friend, the one who gave him the gun, his friend was discharged from the army due to a head injury and I believe this is where Chandler got the idea that falling down the stairs was a good excuse for why his lies were not being followed through. Cat was expecting to move to Florida with him and he had shown her pictures of a house he had supposedly already rented for them. He needed a good exit strategy.
You are the most painfully, yet ENJOYABLY dry humored fellow I've ever heard speak!! You CRACK ME UP, Dr.Grande!! And your opinions and elaborations of these cases are sooo intriguing!! 😭🤣 Congrats on the 1 million! You deserve it, Dr. Grande!
I read the case online and was taken by how gifted the defendant had been in terms his intelligence and social skills. He had a girlfriend and when he chose could find a job easily. Yet, he was detached it seemed and unappreciative. I noticed in the articles I read how he also caused a lot of pain for his brother not only with the crime but just his lack of concern for his brother. Before the crime from what I could see he was not a particularly friendly or nice person.
Chandler wasn't gifted he wanted to be and his parents coddled him. The mother knew he was off, she asked one of her co-workers a younger woman to come over and spend time with Chandler because he had a difficult time making friends. Hmm, where have we heard that before?
This situation reminds me of a similar series of events that occurred several years ago in Texas. A young man set up the murders of his parents and younger brother after the whole family came home after a dinner celebrating his graduation from college. His mother and brother were killed, but his father survived the shooting. The supposed graduate was only slightly wounded. He had dropped out of college, but never informed his parents and somehow kept up the pretense that he was still a student. He hired someone to ambush his family so they wouldn't find out he had deceived them. He arranged to receive a relatively mild wound in the hope it would deflect suspicion away from him. Eventually, the police discovered the conspiracy and the young man was arrested and charged/convicted with murder. His father stood by his son despite the fact his wife and other son were dead and the father was as much a target as they were. I know I couldn't be so forgiving.
My sister had a big graduation party for her daughter and we all went up to see her graduate from college. Turned out the college allowed people who were within a certain number of hours of graduating to "walk" and have their names called out. We didn't find out for a couple of years. It was conditional on finishing over the summer semester. Which she didn't manage to do. But wow, nobody killed anybody over the thing! I don't know if she ever graduated tbh.
So you didn’t mention any diagnosis like sociopath or such. Was he just a kid who was shameful of his lies and his inability to be successful? I wonder if the parents put a lot of pressure on him. Sad story. Love your channel! Oh and I know that feeling that someone is “off”, I didn’t listen to it 39 years ago and it nearly landed me in the grave. I know & trust that feeling now and I get the heck outta dodge.
It could most definitely be the first option you gave. At the very least he is narcissistic. I saw another psychologist say that they wouldn’t label him a psychopath because he has basically no charm and is bad at hiding things, and is also not a pathological liar because his lying served a purpose. I’m thinking it’s somewhere along the lines of sociopathy, because it doesn’t seem like he really cared about anyone but himself and how he looked
@badgalbinka I think extreme social anxiety mixed with a heap of narcissistic traits and possibly a personality disorder. His repeated lying seams like an extremely maladaptive avoidance response to stressful social situations: like telling his parents and girlfriend he'd flunked out of school. He often lied grandiously to his girlfriend Kat just to avoid spending time with her. He spent almost all his time playing video games online where he could curate his image. All his lies steamed from an inability to confront embarrassing social situations and an attempt to defer any emotional discomfort. He just keep stringing people along and creating even more lies to cover for, or get out of, the previous ones. I think he killed his father because he knew his dad wouldn't continue to support him after all his deceptions were revealed. Then he 'had' to kill his mother to even attempt to cover up his father's murder.

Even as an adult, I valued the approval from my folks. They set the bar high for achievement, discipline, being decent, honorable human. I “get” that maybe he felt he was a disappointment. What I can’t understand is why he didn’t know they would have loved , supported him ,and helped him through his struggles despite his web of lies.Unfathomable.

"Either way, Chandler was full of shame". I seriously thought Dr. Grande was about to say another word starting with 'sh'. I can't believe this guy would kill his parents because he couldn't own up to something relatively small like being unsuccessful and lazy. He could have got past that. Something's very wrong with someone like that.
Just "being unsuccessful and lazy"? Sure, it *is* relatively small. But lying to everyone around you about how successful you are for years? Going to those lengths, faking everything, setting up multiple accounts to "prove" your story? That's no small thing at all. I can't imagine killing someone over this, but imagining owning up to something like THAT is... rough. He still should've told the truth, of course, I'm not trying to excuse his vile actions. But admitting how much of a fraud he was proved too much for his ego.
@@asverithagreed- the naans lengths he went to to defraud his family and girlfriend is BONKERS. He was a loser and everyone as about to find out that he was an insane loser to boot. But yeah, he kinda over reacted a TAD.
Throughout the trial, I wondered how Mitchell dealt with all of this. I’m sure he had a hard time believing that his brother could actually do this at first. Since he has lost his entire family, I wonder if he will be able to forgive his brother and have a writing relationship in the future or if Chandler is dead to him. I’m not saying that I think he needs to forgive his brother (I wouldn’t) but I have seen some people do odd things when they only have one family member left. I wonder if the parents discussed their suspicions of Chandler’s lies with Mitchell.
At the trial, the defence made vague insinuations that he (Mitchell) might be the perpetrator, because he benefitted from the life insurance policies. They would only have done that with Chandler's agreement.
@@horrortackleharry they both were going to benefit from the parents life insurance policy...it WAS split 50/50 between the two brother's..meaning Chandler would have benefit just as much as Mitchell would have
@@rdv217 You can't murder somebody and collect their life insurance. You can't benefit from a crime-like write a book and collect royalties. I'm pretty sure that's the law in Wisconsin, it sure is everywhere else. All the money would have gone to his brother by default.

You sound like a sicko. So, you find his discussions of murders and murderers, including this horrific one, to be *_"so relaxing_*_ and _*_entertaining"?!_* Which _specific aspects_ of this murder & dismemberment case were _entertaining,_ and which caused you to _relax?_ Hmmm?
Hahaha! I sent it to him as well while the trial was going on and I'm sure we weren't the only ones. I agree he put it together quickly. I knew he would find the case fascinating!
I watched the trial and I have never seen a defendant so emotionless! Chandler never flinched at the pictures of his dismembered parents, not at any of the evidence not even when he was found guilty. That's eerie.
only time you see a spontaneous response from Chandler during the prosecutor's opening remarks. He vigorously shakes his head "no' when the prosecutor says something (paraphrasing) about the rope found around the father's body had a knot that could have been tied by "boy scout". I think Chandler is very arrogant, angry. After the jury verdict, he can hardly wait to get out of the court room. Go back a watch that.
Dr. Grande, your new table lamp is beautiful and classy.✨ About this case- it’s nauseating to see the callousness with which he treated his parents. Really heartbreaking. Lastly, I am very excited for your 1M milestone, it might happen tonight! I think I will cook something special to celebrate it!✨ Thank you for another excellent analysis.❤️
Very similar to the JOHN LIST murders in Westfield NJ ..November 1971. One young man did the same to his parents. He was from Knoxville TN...Mother's head was in a pot of water cooking away.
This is an excellent discussion of the extensive timeline and trial. I watched bits of the trial and Dr. Grande's summary of events is better than some news channels covering Halderson. I totally agree with you about Chandler. I see the problem is no one ever asked him specific questions, follow up questions or made him clarify his answers. He got away with it because he was white, middle class , lived in a good neighborhood and came from a good family. My main question is,why would a 23 year old with a girlfriend want to live at home? He could have gotten a job and got a roommate. His life consisted of lying, playing video games and eating from fast food restaurants. He claimed his parents grounded him. Unbelievable. It would have been so simple to follow up on the scuba diving job and the college. No one takes a year to get a pay check from any company in America.
One factor i noticed is his parents let his girlfriend sleep with him at their house …that made it convenient for him to live a sexually active life and still be financially supported by mama and daddy
Hello, I had been writing notes while listening to the evidence and I said "impulse" at the very moment you did at 11:00 Wow did I feel chills. Your analysis cases are so engaging and crafted to hold the attention of those that enjoy putting together pieces to its puzzle. Thank you so much for your superb content. This is by far my favorite; you handled this case well despite its many disturbances.
Wonderful analysis as always. Thank you. I watched the trial and feel so bad for all the victims but I particularly hope that his girlfriend Cat , gets some help. She believed all his lies like his parents and I shudder to think what it must have felt after learning she spent nights in the house with body parts in the freezer and bones, teeth and a partial skull in the fireplace.
She slept in the couch fort next to "that" fireplace with the burnt stench in the air, next to that creature!!! She is lucky she came out alive, but will be affected for the rest of her life by this.
Totally terrifying. I kept wondering how she slept in that house and didn't notice anything or question the smell, the cleaning supplies, etc. Not to even mention she was up close and probably intimate with someone who had just killed and was in the process of dismembering body parts. It's all so disgusting and the horrific stuff of nightmares.
I felt so terrible for her. It was the one time I saw Chandler deeply inhale at the end of her testimony. I think her testimony effected him as much as he was able to feel anything.
Thank you for again bringing your intelligent assessment and views on this horribly dangerous person. I can’t imagine the loss and suffering of his brother who has lost all of his family but must pick up the pieces of his life.
A million? YAY! You did it, and well deserved too! Congratulations! 🎉 As for this story.. I feel badly killing an insect.. I will never understand how anyone can kill a human being (especially parents who loved him). So horrid!
As always a great analysis. I’m anxiously awaiting your Thank you for 1 Million Subscribers! You always discuss an interesting topic. A bit early but congratulations and thank you for all the time and diligence you put into each episode.
So, for 3 years he carried on his charade of "good employee/student w a bright future", victimized by unreasonable college staff/employers and went to great lengths to continue the charade. My younger sister flunked out of college when she got involved w the local cocaine dealer but kept up the charade that she was still in class. My son kept up his charade of attending high school (when I'd drop him off daily, he'd walk right out the back door and party all day) and I, too, blamed the school officials for reporting him absent when he actually was. Both lied directly to their mother's faces. I guess my mother and I should count ourselves lucky that we were not shot, dismembered and cooked in the family fireplace.
What a terrifying case. There always seems to be a narcissist, sociopath or psychopath in these events Dr Grande! 😱 congratulations on your ‘almost’ million milestone. Well deserved!
That's a great observation. I've noticed that people who murder close friends or family tend to display a form of sociopathic tendency or narcissism or both lol.
By looking at this guy's life you wouldn't really think anything was wrong with him until you learned that he lied to every single person in his whole entire life and that is the first sign of a narcissist and a psychopath... This was so helpful and informative this case bothered me so much it’s so tragic and horrible. It’s heartbreaking I watched some of the trial and it blew me away what this young man did. As always you did a great analysis thank you. As a therapist myself I love your insights
He had a plan. It wasn't a smart plan though, which is why he got caught pretty much right away. I think his girlfriend had a close shave. I watched a lot of this trial and was shocked that Chandler had insisted upon going to trial rather than taking a plea deal. His demeanor in the courtroom was like a dead man sitting at the table. Not once did he interact with his attorneys who were stuck with an almost indefensible case. It seemed like that his insistence on going to trial was his last public F...you to the world and to his family. These were murders that did not have to happen if only Chandler had put as much work into getting a real job and his schooling as he did in his years of deception, lies, and ultimately murders.
I was shocked too until I remembered that this is Chandler, who lies and lies and lies to the end. I think even if he shot them right in front of your eyes he would still swear he didn't do it.
FU to his family is pretty much it. If his had just pled guilty his dirty laundry would have never been fully known. Since they didn't show any gruesome pics the chilling part for me was the slow walkthrough video of the house before the full search when into effect. Eerie just knowing they were dead and how close they were to deadly danger without even knowing it 😳
I watched 7-8 hours every day of the trial, and your presis was as good. THE EVIDENCE WAS INDEED OVERWHELMING. Thanks again for your insightful presentation. I will never be able to understand how or why etc. a man could do this to a human being never mind his parents...Dona in 🇨🇦
I'd hardly call someone you've only played video (killing) games with _remotely,_ your "friend." They apparently _met in person_ only *once,* 2 weeks prior to the murder, when Smith gave Halderson the rifle and 400 rounds of ammunition. Smith was smug, flippant and arrogant when giving testimony. He dressed in fatigues, instead of a shirt, tie & jacket, which show respect for the judge and court procedure. Others were also dressed casually, but none were as off-putting as he was, especially when the prosecutor asked him how many gun "exchanges" he'd done.

The whole circle of friends and family in my eyes , have seemed to never had any interest in him ever yes even his own parents Hes lacking normal human interaction on all levels . Be honest would you have questioned him a long time ago ??
Pure narcissism, stupidity, and a fundamental inability to own up to the countless lies he built his life upon because he’s a pathological liar. At least that’s my interpretation.
What I find weird (apart from all the killing and such), is that his parents didn't know he was gaming instead of studying, or that the job wasn't real. He lived with them, after all. We have three college students at home and we know where all of them are in terms of term workloads, exam prep, tutorial schedules, results, etc etc. We talk to them constantly about their education and their jobs - and always have done. Kids have to know a) that they're answerable, and b) that their parents are interested and involved.
The whole sars 2 corona lock down crisis just made his cover easier as he was supposedly working remotely from home..therefore on the computer …if he was in his room with the door closed and on the computer gaming who would know? Also his parents worked outside of the house,
Preach! That's how our parents were. Chandler sounded regressed, what 23 year old wants to stay under their parents? You should be out mingling, going to the library parties! Going away to college was the best thing my parents encouraged us to do.
@@valerielstevens4712 On the contrary 'going away to college' is the worst thing kids can do. It's what has caused so many social problems in American society - kids being thrust into the adult world before they're ready. They're too young to be without boundaries, because they haven't learned nearly enough about compromise, cooperation, resonsibility, and answerability. Kids need to learn to function in a multigenerational setting, to mature properly. When they live exclusively with other kids, their development is quite arrested. Besides, parents who want their kids to 'go away to college' are wanting it for themselves - not their kids. They want to check out of parenting early.
He went to extraordinary lengths to fool his family and girlfriend. Pretending to study for exams, buying books, making fake schedules and showing them code he'd supposedly written for classes. He created an elaborate ruse and was only discovered because his father needed to file his taxes and requested his college transcripts. It it hadn't been for taxes Chandler would have likely provided falsified transcripts but since his father would eventually discover they were fake since he would be using them to file his taxes Chandler had to come up with his lies to string his father along.
Great summary Dr G! I watched this trial from beginning to end, the prosecution did an excellent job of creating an organized and clear cut case of guilt. My mind continued to go back to the reality that these types of people live among us, the family appeared to be the ‘people next door’ going about their normal lives, until this crime happened. Intriguing true crime story.
Now you know his parents would have been angry, hurt, but they would have forgiven him. That's what we parents do. I think he needed some serious psychological help.
This type of situation for young adults trying to avoid Shame from their loved ones for failing school or falling behind, I myself from slacking and immaturity fell behind 2 years at university but this year, I’m getting all As and writing my lsat in a few months

@@yeebby1He was very motivated at those computer games he played each day.

Murder is bad enough, but when someone is capable of dismembering it takes it to a whole new level of evil, that's the stuff of horror movies.
Especially if it is your parents!
yes to dismember elevates it to another level - the fact that it is someone he knows.

This case is terrifying. Knowing someone can plan to kill their own parents in cold blood is so disturbing.
Great analysis commenting so more people can see
@@landlubbr thank you :)
there is no evidence that Chandler was ever grounded by his parents, on the contrary according to students that knew him when he was living at the college campus being grounded was a lie he would often use on Cat in order to get free time away from her to see other girls.

Hmm, where have we heard that before?
sibling rivalry was probably an aspect as well. His older brother is a college graduate with a career.
GoGreen1977 -thank you for reminding me, I knew there was another case involving lying about going to college. So sad for the surviving father.
Bless his father
Bart Withaker and there is another one, Chris Porco
Also when you said Roxbury, all I could think of was, What is Love and Will Farrell bopping his head 🤣🤣

I sent this story for Dr. Grande's consideration, happy to hear about it so quickly ! Thanks as usual for your content of utmost quality !
I watched the trial. UnFuckingBelievable what he did.
@@doneestoner9945 He never blinked an eye or showed any emotion. He is a stone-cold killer. Any remorse he feels is for himself.
Kinda surprised when he said he did this one before the verdict came which only took 2 hours. Considering he never said "allegedly" once.
Dr. Grande, your new table lamp is beautiful and classy.✨
About this case- it’s nauseating to see the callousness with which he treated his parents. Really heartbreaking.
Lastly, I am very excited for your 1M milestone, it might happen tonight! I think I will cook something special to celebrate it!✨
Thank you for another excellent analysis.❤️

Rejane, Dr Grande just hit the one million mark.
"Dedicated Imaginary Friends". I'm going to have to remember that one.
Kudos for mentioning Halderson's overestimation of his intelligence. So happy for close to 1M subscribers. Very well done!
Dr. Grande your channel is superlative - your content is diverse, topical, interesting, succinctly presented and hilariously entertaining 😀 THANK YOU - YOU should have 1M Subs -

A truly magnificent comment to commemorate an important milestone!
Let’s gooooo 1 mill! Congrats Dr. Grande!!
Hello, I had been writing notes while listening to the evidence and I said "impulse" at the very moment you did at 11:00
Wow did I feel chills.
I would have to question using the fireplace in July.
Empathy award! 🎖🏆🏅
A million? YAY! You did it, and well deserved too! Congratulations! 🎉 As for this story.. I feel badly killing an insect.. I will never understand how anyone can kill a human being (especially parents who loved him). So horrid!
The police interrogation video is one of the most surreal interviews in the history of the true-crime genre.
I find your calm analysis, even discussing gruesome details, comforting.
As always a great analysis. I’m anxiously awaiting your Thank you for 1 Million Subscribers! You always discuss an interesting topic. A bit early but congratulations and thank you for all the time and diligence you put into each episode.
Not early! Right on time!🕑
So, for 3 years he carried on his charade of "good employee/student w a bright future", victimized by unreasonable college staff/employers and went to great lengths to continue the charade.
I feel very sorry for his girlfriend she seemed sincerely traumatized and heartbroken😥
Prayers for his entire family for comfort and peace in this devastating time🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💔😪
Dr Grande cracks me up with his small but hilarious comments

What a horrific case, and one I haven't heard of yet. I was so taken off guard when I heard you say that he shot his father in the back, then his mother. I was completely expecting to hear that Chandler took his own life.
Great video, Dr. Grande!
Had to laugh when you said "....so they were highly dedicated imaginary friends." ;D
This was so helpful and informative this case bothered me so much it’s so tragic and horrible. It’s heartbreaking I watched some of the trial and it blew me away what this young man did. As always you did a great analysis thank you. As a therapist myself I love your insights
He Scares me to Death!! So much planning, and Soo BRUTAL!!
He had a plan. It wasn't a smart plan though, which is why he got caught pretty much right away. I think his girlfriend had a close shave. Had she continued their relationship, (had he not killed his parents but still a psycho) she wouldn't have been safe. They had been dating 3 yrs...fairly serious...YIKES
@@peggypeggy4137 was it 3 years? the other girl who testified said they dated in 2020
@@Healcraft It could be. I didn't see the entire trial and I was going by what I heard the mother say. This guy was both stupid and dangerous, a scary combination !
@@peggypeggy4137 i could not believe how stupid he was. I could understand all the mistakes made on the night he burned the bodies etc because he probably didn't sleep once and then hung out with his gf all day. But just surprised anyone believed his lies
I will never be able to understand how or why etc. a man could do this to a human being never mind his parents...Dona in 🇨🇦
Hey Nancy, I think I saw u in the love stream!!❤️
@@donalee1975 hey girl!!!❣️ I'm so excited to see everyone that was in the stream I missed y'all lol
Should definitely do a follow-up regarding his friend Andrew and his court appearance. There appears to be plenty of subject matter right there.
@@wholeshebang1 Smith is a social cripple; I think his disrespectful demeanor stems from that vs a nefarious nature.

Watched this entire trial and I can't wrap my head around why this went to trial--did Chandler just want to waste time and money or was he really arrogant enough to think he had a chance of getting away with it? No way his lawyers advised him to plead not guilty lol
@bleedingberryjuice, Yeah, that is an interesting question. What was he thinking? Why go through the embarrassment of a trial and have it all shoved in your face? I guess he really believed in himself and that it was all going to work out?
@@tomruth9487I saw people saying that this was his last “f*ck you” to everyone and that really seems like the case

It's amazing how many videos I've seen on this one guy already but of course your analysis is the best one
Not one character witness says it all. He had no friends. He had no life.
Horrific murder and dismembered parents… he’s nothing short of diabolical. With that said…”Maybe his mom came home and tripped on his imaginary scuba gear 🤿…”. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that made me howl with laughter 🗣
This was so heartbreaking, I just can’t imagine what was going through this young man’s mind to commit such a horrific thing.
His parents may they rest in peace ❤ must have been Delusional its very clear to us all that Chandler isnt the full shilling so to speak as far as common sence his pretend life was going on for a few years and he took advantage of lockdown like a lot of others and not once did anybody ever in his family and friends Bubble asked for any prove of anything he said he was involved with 🤔 come on this guy is totally the opposite of human we as the real humans was sensible enough to sum this guy up in a few days.
The title of Dr Grande's video is a clue.
One of your best videos, much appreciated 👏 👍
As a local to this trial… I’m very glad I was ineligible for jury duty due to sitting on a less gruesome trial with slightly less media coverage 😎
1 Million! Congratulations!!!!!! Excellent work.
