Guilty. Melody said on phone recording, "he wasn't supposed to burn like that"... Melody wanted Gary recognisable to get insurance monies. She hung herself with her words. If she was innocent why didn't she take the stand and say this is what really happened? She adamantly told her granddaughter she could not stay on the 4th July. Two separate receipts were shown where she bought bleach and a lot of other cleaning products. A juror said they weren't that concerned how he got on the pile; he could have been held at gun point told to walk out of house and shot at burn pile, or shot inside and bullet did not kill him instantly and he went outside for help. (Basement was not typical down stairs, but on ground level). Melody knew how to use tractor and easy to scoop him up and drive him to burn pile. She had the motive. Rusty looked up plain gold rings a week before. Melody tried to implicate her two sons and one of her daughters. I have followed this case, there were many things you left out clearly implicating Melody. It was clear to me beyond reasonable doubt Melody was guilty.
i absolutely think she is guilty for sure but i think that in murder cases defendants are almost always advised against taking the stand in their defense
@@moonshinedown2 Her defence counsel probably said not to because she was cold hearted and be ripped to shreds by prosecution. Most people on trial are guilty and told not too. @@Freida657It was a fascinating trial wasn't it? Poor Gary the had that dinner plate thrown at him by Melody that he videoed broken on the front porch of his house. Such a beautiful house but not a happy home. I cannot wait to see what the wacky Judge gives her as a sentence.
@@Antoinette14273 It's a constitutional right in the US to choose not to take the stand, no matter how innocent you may actually be. Which is why you rarely see anyone actually testify in their innocence at a trial. If you waive your right to remain silent the prosecution has the ability to ask you any questions or present any evidence to incriminate you. Which it is entirely possible there is some that may make you look guilty even if you are innocent. Prosecution has the burden of proof, and by giving them more to incriminate you on you're just helping them. This is why criminal defense attorneys will advise most people do not take the stand in their defense. You are absolutely right that it's clear this woman is guilty but not testifying in your defense is not and has never been a direct signifier of guilt.
There was a reason that Gary restricted funds from his wife...she had taken out $50,000 from their home equity line of credit when she ran off with her first boyfriend...
@@melissaharris3389pretty sure it was the last boyfriend Rusty & that's when he shut off her credit cards. That's why she had to take Scott when she went shopping. Scott had a credit card & she didn't.
For a lawyer he really missed an important detail by not changing the beneficiary on his life insurance policy. That should have been the first thing he did after she started cheating on him. Sleep in separate bedrooms? Fine. Forget to change the insurance beneficiary and let her know? Quite remiss on his part.
I very much appreciate that you're doing a lot less cutting on your videos. The more realistic conversational pace you're using feels way more authentic. Thanks for the content as always!
@@badlandskid I wanted to make exactly that comment ;-). The worst videos are those without normal pauses between sentences. (Dr Grande never made those luckily.)

I can't understand if he felt that way why he even stayed. We only get one short life, and his was certainly shorter than most in the end. What a waste to live so unhappily with someone.
If Gary divorced Melody, how much would he have to pay Melody in the divorce settlement? I think he was holding onto it for the adult children. Melody was allegedly not happy with giving money to the children. It's like being trapped by his own wealth.
Her not standing up would’ve made a big difference to me as a juror. I take note of entitled behavior. Thank you, Dr.Grande, per usual, you are right on 😊
I don't believe her lawyer's explanation. Think she is just like Sarah Boone multiplied by her actually having wealth etc. They are always right no matter what people or the law says.
Yeah- sometimes people put things off when they shouldn’t. My daddy was in the process of having his beneficiary changed over to me on his policies. He completed one but had not gotten to the other yet when he was murdered. But that beneficiary did not get the proceeds though- my siblings & I got that one as well. Convicted murderers can’t receive insurance benefits on their victims. His ex-wife, (NOT MY MOTHER- but actually the woman he left my mother for💔)along with her aunt & her aunt’s boyfriend were found guilty & served their sentences. Losing a loved one is hard- losing a loved one to murder is even harder. She didn’t want him, but she didn’t want anyone else to have him either.
Exactly! When she said, "he wasn't supposed to burn like that". She is guilty beyond reasonable doubt. She wanted to have him identifiable and recognisable to get insurance monies. Many other things convinced me.
Why did she think she was getting away with it! Why lie to the police about her affairs, she criticized everyone in her police interviews and threw them under the bus, except for Amanda 🙄. I don’t care for Chris as he stole from Gary, don’t care for Amanda as she was expecting to enjoy blood money from Melody, Scott could have done better and use his own credit cards. These kids all used Gary, I believe they loved him but they are all adults and wanted daddy to pay for lots of stuff for them. Cable, vacations, bills etc… just a mess.
@PatriciaA572 It is normal for parents to buy their grown kids items, give them money, work for them and go on vacation with them. I had no issues with that because Gary didn't neglect his wife in the process. Melody had the issue with Gary being generous with his money that HE WORKED HARD FOR! She didn't lift a finger. She had everything (a normal person) could want didn't she? Except happiness within herself and her marriage. How much more could she want? (We know the answer to that!) Gary worked hard and if he wanted to give his children money and other things then why not? Melody didn't appreciate him what she had.
Dr. Grande, I’m a longtime subscriber and fan, but I think you missed a lot of the facts that came to light during this trial, and refusing to stand for the jury was the least of her problems. She had a decades long history of pathological lying, numerous affairs, stealing $50,000 from the equity of their house when she left her husband to live with someone else, humiliating her husband and children by inviting her lover to her daughter’s wedding & dancing with him in front of everyone, spreading despicable lies about her husband and children to friends & family…the list is endless. And the her calls to her most recent lover (and possible accomplice) were shockingly heartless and cruel!! As terrible as she was to her husband, he gave her everything she ever wanted and even bought her the farm AFTER she took $50k, left him for another man, and came back! And her second cousin, Martha Jane Barton, was an extremely transparent and credible witness who obviously loved Melody and was devastated by what happened! Based on all of the evidence, along with her willingness to throw her own children under the bus to save herself from this murder charge goes a long way in proving that there was only two things she loved; herself and money, and she finally decided to take eliminate the husband she despised and take full control of his multi-million dollar estate! Not to mention, she didn’t show an ounce of sadness over the death of her meal ticket or over the horrible loss his death was for her children, and she was ice cold during the trial. While there was very little direct evidence, the sheer amount of circumstantial evidence was more than enough to convict her.
This is a trial that he needed to watch from beginning to end before he did a piece on it himself. I love Dr. grand but sometimes after watching these trials from beginning to end, he does not have all the facts.
Money and property etc can’t be construed as having everything. It sounds like she hated her husband. But the husband must take some blame for this - he could have been a real b…..d to her in many ways. I’m not saying she was right to burn him - just divorce the man - she could still have got half of everything ……
“I can tell you that there should not have been as much damage as there was done” “that body should not have been burned up”…..said Melody to Rusty. RIP Gary & I hope the family heals 🌹
There are many details that were not brought out in Dr. Grande's synopsis. She bragged that she wsnted him to die alone a gruesome death. She was the only person on the property the night of the murder. We have no way of knowing if Gary was even dead when she dumped him. She and her boyfriend talked at considerable length on the night of the murder; that was totally out of character for them.
I have been wondering when you would star Melody . First time that I have watched an entire trial , and thrilled that justice was served for Gary and their children
Me too! I’m wondering if Rusty will be charged with conspiracy or obstruction of justice for telling Melody that the police were recording her phone calls
I’m stuck in 3 (barely)bedroom semi detached house in uk. I’ve got 3 kids one who’s 16, then 10 then 8 2 are girls 1 boy. Why do people who have such beautiful homes and lives do such things like this! It’s baffling to me 😲😲😲
As an adult with soon to be adult children, understand this ... There are some truly evil people out there and there is nothing to identify them until they do the deed. Her evil was just monumental. Didnt respect her marriage. implicated her KIDS. murder was nothing to her. I bet she slept like a baby that night.
I have found that people who cheat want to try to play the victim. I remember hearing one of my husband's colleagues trying to explain the reasons why he left his wife and moved in with a woman whom he had been having an affair with for a year or so. Throughout his explanatory story, he continued to paint his wife to be a horrible bad woman who shouted at him all the time, he said his wife had refused to cook for him since learning of his affair!! He even made derogatory remarks regarding his wife's personal appearance… during his story, he continued to hang his head and say words like “her screaming and shouting has made my nerves bad... He knew he was the one in the wrong and caused his wife appalling anguish but still, he wanted sympathy and to be the victim. He did not receive sympathy from me that's for sure.
@@Azelia834Heather it’s called “rewriting history“ and it’s common among cheaters who are trying to cast blame on the betrayed spouse instead of taking responsibility for their own behavior. Perhaps it’s some form of defense mechanism.

I appreciate you talking about “reasonable doubt,” Dr. Grande! Between the cases I’ve followed on your channel and 48 Hours, it’s become clear to me that jurors these days have completely forgotten about what “beyond reasonable doubt” means and how that’s supposed to be essential in their decision. They hold the rest of someone’s life in their hands; they’re not supposed to be able to declare someone is guilty (and effectively end their life) based on a hunch or with the mindset that they’re possibly wrong.
The jury had doubts, they just weren't reasonable ones. The man was killed and his wife was there at the time. She incriminated herself with all of her stupid phone calls to her paramour. It was as if she couldn't shut her mouth to save her life and that's actually what it's come down to.
Because thats what can make marriage so dangerous. A thin line between love and hate. This woman you can see the evil just by her face. She wears it right there. Husband Gary had to see this coming. Especially if she had affairs, and tried to poison him. But evil is dumb. She killed him and left him on burn pit and told someone. No she, didn't get rid of evidence well at all.
Yeah. Anyone who's watched a cop show in the last 30+ years knows that the first suspect is the spouse. Acting all offended and shocked would make me suspicious if I was investigating.
Good afternoon Dr. Grande, thank you for your very informative analysis on this case. I agree that sadly, greed plays a huge part in lives ending and families torn apart😢

Dr. Todd, i have followed this case for months and there aren't a lot of people who believe she is innocent their is just a few and a HUGE number of us who watched the entire trial that knows she is guilty asfm as for not standing the jury were asked and they sid, they totally didn't notice her standing up. It was only the people online that watch it that commented about her not standing NOT THE JURY.
Definitely beyond a reasonable doubt and she pointed the blame at their grieving son to everyone . All the lies, the jail phone calls, and the geo tracking . She hated Gary , had poisoned him for years and she loved money. Also I think they said that the life insurance would have been doubled for an accident. We heard her talking about that he shouldn’t have burned so much also a 2am call that he is on the fire. She made up a story about the horses being loose to lure Scott over to find the body- a monster
With the not standing thing, it feels like that is something she has decided herself "Im not standing for those guys like they are better than me" then her poor lawyer is left to cover it...poorly. Poor guy is like: Okay so she looks bad right now, just sitting there, I need to cover "Yeah, I told her to do that, she doesn't need to stand for these people, they are her peers!". He is probably wondering why he doesn't get clients anymore.
Yeah. It's better to just ignore it and pretend it's a non-issue. Hope no one calls her out or asks about it. I think the lawyer was just embarrassed by his clients behavior and knew it was disrespectful; he tried to cover it and instead put his foot in his mouth by bringing attention to her behavior.
The deleted photos from the trail cam were all restored and showed nothing of evidently value. Scott kept the memory card clear, so while searching for Gary, he reviewed the photos and saw they yielded nothing to help them find Gary. Then he cleared the card. Scott may have had mental health issues, but he loved his dad and mom, and his whole world has been flipped upside down.
I followed this trial online. I’ve always thought she shot ‘at’ him the first time in the basement- either he stumbled out to get away from her & he fell on the burn pile where she shot him again (bullet in rib bone) OR she shot at him, then forced him to the burn pile by way of holding the gun on him, got him to the burn pile where she shot him again. I heard the recording where she told Rusty, her lover, the night before he became missing, that “Gary’s on the burn pile” BEFORE he was noted as being ‘missing.’ Rusty may have recanted WHEN he thought about it later- but we heard him the first time via the recording. Also, Melody said on one of the recordings, something to the effect of ‘His body should not have been burned as bad as it was.’ Also, it was pointed out that she was quite strong for her size (even helping a friend move a grand piano). It was also pointed out that she was quite a ‘clean freak’ and could’ve very easily cleaned where there could have been evidence- although she did miss some blood & the spent shell. She was a cold, callous person who tried to blame her own children and eventually turned brothers & sisters against each other. No mother with a clean conscience would want her children turning on each other to take the focus off herself.
@@easternkiwiz I need to refresh myself by watching some of the trial again- But there were recorded conversations when the investigators had Rusty to record them without her knowledge. Then he couldn’t stand her not knowing that he was having to do that so he bought “burner phones” for them to communicate with that the investigators didn’t know about, but they still sometimes talked on the regular recorded lines. Then there were recorded conversations from the jail after she was arrested- And jailhouse calls are always recorded (unless it’s attorney/client conversations). I hope I have my information correct as I was recovering from surgery as I was listening to a lot of the trial- If I’m wrong, I apologize- I’ll try to update after I have listened to some of the trial videos again.

Great video! I cringed hard at the bags of fertilizer demonstration, it was an thoughtless insulting analogy to the victim, which the jury may have also noticed!
The jury was able to visit her home , the crime scene, a juror stated during this visit they saw that the basement had sliding glass doors that opened to a fairly steep downhill slant, thus even if he was killed in the basement it wouldn't have been necessary to "carry" him out as the defense kept insisting. The second cousin was pretty convincing about the gun. Melody also made the statement in a phone call that the body was not supposed to be burned so badly, lol. Watched the whole trial, there may be some that think there was reasonable doubt, but it seemed the vast majority of people who followed this trial considered her guilty, as did the jury.
The jury is performing a service with sacrifice. They have nothing to gain , and probably experience some trauma as a result. They deserve that extra dose of respect. They are not simply there to observe.

I think the neighbor helped her possibly or Gary got outside as blood dripped on stairs and died in yard and she used the tractor to put him on pile as there was his fresh blood found on the tractor too! Kind of tells the story! The juror who spoke out thought as I did on that! She did it alone and was only one home! The neighbor heard the gun shot! If anyone else was there they would have reacted to that loud gun shot! She was alone killing him when he returned from dinner!

@@Antoinette14273 I believe you & I watched the same trial! Our conclusions are VERY similar!
i absolutely think she is guilty for sure but i think that in murder cases defendants are almost always advised against taking the stand in their defense
@@moonshinedown2 Her defence counsel probably said not to because she was cold hearted and be ripped to shreds by prosecution. Most people on trial are guilty and told not too. However, if you are really innocent of the crimes though, you would not hesitate to get up there in a heartbeat and tell the truth.

Her husband said that each day with Melody was the worst day of his life... wow! He should have left her.

He filed for divorce but changed his mind and she would not leave!
If Gary divorced Melody, how much would he have to pay Melody in the divorce settlement? I think he was holding onto it for the adult children. Melody was allegedly not happy with giving money to the children. It's like being trapped by his own wealth.

Yeah- sometimes people put things off when they shouldn’t. My daddy was in the process of having his beneficiary changed over to me on his policies. Exactly! When she said, "he wasn't supposed to burn like that". She is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
She wanted to have him identifiable and recognisable to get insurance monies. Many other things convinced me.
Yes, that and all her lies to everybody. I think also she was such a bad wife and what she did to Gary by cheating we want her to be punished.
Oldcollegecoed, Spot on, you described the evidence perfectly
Just a reminder, I'm not analyzing any adulterous murderous wife in this video; only speculating about a female life-ending serial cheater like this.
Money and property etc can’t be construed as having everything. It sounds like she hated her husband. But the husband must take some blame for this - he could have been a real b…..d to her in many ways. Hi Doc
Did you get a new camera? The video quality looks great.
Thanks, as always, for your reliably excellent content.
You can’t imagine how thankful I am that you have broken this down for us.
I suspect the lawyer did not tell her to do that, and was just doing his best to clean up after her.
Yah there was probably minorities in the jury and she decided she aint getting up for those people. Now she gonna die in jail. idiot.
The lawyer said in the courtroom that he had told her not to stand for the jury because they were her peers.
I was thinking the same thing.
She appears mean spirited and even disrespectful to the jury. I wonder how Gary was able to put up with her for so long.

If she was an equal peer to the jury she wouldn't be on trial for MURDER 🤦🏼♀️
Basing collective behavior upon a singular personal experience is an interesting way to go through life.
@@Azelia834Heather it’s called “rewriting history“ and it’s common among cheaters who are trying to cast blame on the betrayed spouse instead of taking responsibility for their own behavior. Perhaps it’s some form of defense mechanism.

Cheating on one's spouse is one of the worst things a person can do. And it often leads to this result for the innocent victim.
Correct. And so, the jury did indeed find Melody Guilt of the murder of Gary Farris beyond a reasonable doubt!!! She is guilty, guilty, guilty.
The jury had doubts, they just weren't reasonable ones. The man was killed and his wife was there at the time. She incriminated herself with all of her stupid phone calls to her paramour. It was as if she couldn't shut her mouth to save her life and that's actually what it's come down to.
She stood to inherit $5 million. She never thought they'd find the bullet either. Guilty ..the Jury was correct..
Martha was an incredible witness and she knew her stuff, I wish her the Best 💐 💌
It always amazes me that when some one dies in a suspicious manner, the spouse is somewhat surprised when they look at them.

I live here and I have never heard of this.
Craziness!
Question - how did her calls come to be recorded?
