This video shows exactly how to tear down the NEW PS4 controller. They've called it the DualShock 4. After use, the battery may stop working, or the charging port might become damaged. Instead of buying a new PlayStation 4 controller it might be worth fixing the old one. This video will show you exactly how. Idk if it's been mentioned but I opened my ds4 to replace the sticks and when I put it back together It wouldn't charge. I figured my USB port was damaged. Checked the ribbon cable to the light, looked ok. Then I noticed the touchpad would only work as a button but not when swiped. Took it apart again and took the plastic cover off the back of the touchpad and seen the ribbon cable was loose. Plugged it back in put it together and tried it out. Touchpad works and controller is charging again! If it stops charging after you take it apart take out the touchpad and check both ends of the cables. Make sure u lift the little black latches on the end of the ribbons too. Good luck ppl hope this helps someone.

***** theres a ribbon cable that goes from the back of the touchpad to the circuit board, it has little latches that you have to pop up then push back down once you have the ribbon cable in position. If you can push the touchpad in and use it as a button but it doesn't work when you swipe around, its most likely the cable being loose or damaged.

I connected it back then put the battery back in too then it finally turned on.

He likely started recording his voice and didn't like how the way he sounds (most people experience this when recording themselves) and used a lower voice to compensate. I'm experiencing this right now lol. I guess over time he's gotten more comfortable with his voice.

After dropping my controller into a container full of water (don't ask) back in Feb. I was able to use this video to take it apart and dry the inside. The controller is still functioning to this day though the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. Thanks Jerry!

I was thinking, could I possibly be able to replace these analog sticks with the ones from the Xbox One controller? Those are amazing in my opinion.
I read in comments on a similar vid that someone had done it, Whether he was full of shit or not is unknown. I plan on trying it but in the meantime I put a set of PS3 thumb sticks in, as these make my thumbs feel like they're going to blister.
That said the PS3 thumb sticks required some modification which took time and patience.

Make sure you dont take out the triggers because theres a little steel spring in them that falls out sometimes and is a bitch to put back in.

@@donaldtrump6988 make sure you threaded the ribbon cable on the touchpad through the plastic and connected it to the motherboard. This should fix it

Make sure the cable ribbon is around the right way at either end of the connections?

After not playing for 2 days, I went to my ps4 and my controller wouldn't turn on. Must be dead. But it won't charge, so I open it up and notice right away the pin is detatched from charger like you fix here, but I reattach that and it still doesn't charge and everything else looks right

After putting it back together, my touch pad 'slide' feature no longer works, only the clickable button its self works. anyone know why?
I just discovered the problem. The plastic housing of the daughterboard on the touch pad also has one of these ribbon cable plugs leading underneath it. If you're too rough removing the touchpad to begin with, the other end of the ribbon cable will become dislodged. All you have to do is carefully pop off this housing peice (only affixed with a weak adhesive) and reseat the plug.

Every time i Put both of my controllers to charge the Orange light turns on for a sec Then it turns off and it doesnt charge, what does that mean? do i need a new charging cable? cause i Kind move around the Area where the cables is inside the Charging port, i mess with it, but i turns off again.

It means that your controller is fully charged
Not necessarily, my controller is doing that right now. As soon as I plug in the cord it turns orange and then shuts off. I know its not charged because I used it until it was dead, now it doesn't charge at all. Plus for the 2 seconds it is on while "charging" the battery blinks empty on the screen then shuts off. I can only assume it means I need a new charging port or a new battery as my other controller charges just fine on the same cord.

The one in decent condition was doing exactly what you're saying. So what I did was change the battery's and nothing else and the decent one was charging like normal. I also go a new stronger battery put it on the fucked up one and they both charge fine. So it's more than likely the. Battery

I made the mistake of using my cell phone charger to charge my controller. Thanks to you I was able to fix it and even increase the size of the battery. Was super cheap to only $2-$3. Although it sucked to have to wait more than a month for it to ship from China.

The only way to know that TB, is to look at the charging port board and look at the model number. For example, the JDS-001, is a 14-pin, and it's blue. Then there's the JDS-011, which is green, and a 12-pin. Then there's also the JDS-030, which is similar to the JDS-011, also a 12-pin, but the 030 model is a little skinnier on the one end. Hope that helps.
I would stick with the model number, but before you hit 'buy', compare the shape of the one in your controller, to the one you're buying.
I realized I'm not supposed to use a Samsung Galaxy fast charger for my ps4 controller so basically I overheated my battery and destroyed it and I can only play with it connected to the charger

Yes. I was charging while playing and the next time I found that my controller is dead even though it was charged.

I made this same mistake, too. When I plugged my fast charger into my controller, a question mark appeared on the battery image on the PS blade. I unplugged it immediately. But now it won't charge. Luckily I have a backup controller. Now I know to never do that again.
The different sizes of the vibration is in every Dualshock. The big vibration is for the strong rumble. The small is for the lighter and deeper ones.

Chris Stokes Not trying to be rude man, but how am i supposed to help troubleshoot individual controllers over the internet? I show the process of taking mine apart, and when I put mine back together, it functioned... so if someone's controller is not functioning... they must have deviated from the video. Like the video description says... attempt this at your own risk.
Im sorry, i didnt know whether or not you have done this numerous times to amout to might having the same problem maybe. no disrespect. if you havent had these issues then obviously you cant troubleshoot.

8 yrs later this video just helped me realize that the Gamestop controller I bought from them has no dam battery! I only took it apart to fix the USB part and noticed that the reason I was only able to use a cable was because they either didn't check for it or straight up took it out & didn't put a new one back in. How do you sell something without its biggest part of making it wireless?! This video helped in so many ways. F*** Gamestop.

My charging port is definitely loose or in need of repair / replacement. It only charges if you hold the cable in its "sweet spot" and just a few days ago, even the sweet spot hasn't been working. You think getting a new controller is bad? Imagine replacing a $150-$180 SCUF :T
I'll have to try and just replace the port myself because dropping 200 bucks is something I really don't want to do right now. Will update you after the weekend Jerry!

worked great. did have troubles but ended up being my fault with the power cable. also them springs for the triggers should have been mentioned as they were a pain. was about to buy a new controller and throw it out

Update: I found that pinching the ends of said spring together prior to inserting the spring is required. No tweezers needed. Thanks for the vid!

If the battery follows standard usb protocalls, you should be able to replace the battery with a cell phone battery. Much greater capacity.

OMG... it is cool that my GF showed me you and wife's video. Also the elevator for her was cool. So my PS4 dual shock does not have the screws for the charging port that you first take off or show at 1:23 so i'm kinda stuck now lol
That clear plastic piece just got caught when I was putting it back together and broke if it doesn't matter I won't worry about it. If I can also get a better battery with longer life I will do that and go ahead and change it since I was changing the thumbknobs is why I had it open to begin with.

I tried this and this is so damn frustrating.
I had 1 working controller that simply needed a new charger port.
I had two other broken controllers with working charging ports. BUT, none of them fit! You have to get very specific parts for these remotes. Don’t even bother to try and fix this on your own because if you do, you first have to take the remote apart to see which part it exactly needs.
I also tried putting it together and for the life of me, I couldn’t. And yes, all the parts are in their proper place.
It’s easy to take apart but when you try putting things back together after realizing none of the extra parts fits, it’s a real shit show of stress and annoying rage.
Cheap in my country . Only 0.99 usd 😅 for charging port and that cable in charging*Fix it if i wrong*.

Replaced the batteries in my PS4 controllers, not difficult purchased a few off ebay, the 2000mah. The controllers charge and WORK in the MENU only, they do not work inside of any APPS or GAMES. iN THE SAME WORDS - The toggles and buttons cease to work as soon as i go inside a game or TV application. So far can't figure this out.

There are a couple new controllers for the ps4 that are available pretty much everywhere, but the U.S market. They are coming soon. The Razer raiju and the nacon revolution. The revolution is available I believe and there are a few vendors on Amazon that are selling the raiju without a warranty, because they are not official vendors of razer. I have read about some minor problems and decided to risk it. Where do you get your parts in case there is an issue? And is there any way you could do a video on both of these controllers? I have a feeling because they are the first pro controllers for the ps4 that is officially liscensed by Sony that lots of people are going to be interested in them

type in dual shock 4 on ebay or amazon. than order the part or a few like 2 or 3. depending how many controllers u got bc i had 2 go bad already. Than follow his vid step by step. Focus and have patient.. worst that can happen if your carefully rough??? no worries the clips that break are almost useless screw holds controller back together just dont break any by R2 and L2. Ur welcome. 😊

On my controller the charging port is locked In to place with only one screw and with tiny bit of black (maybe Electric) tape and because of that i think it broke. Usb cable wont go In now so its most likely warped inside, slowly but surely my other controller is doing the same so thank you sony for cheap builds and good luck to all of you guys out there Who has the time to fix these etc
