    Damn, I should have sent my Amazon Exclusive Limited Edition Crystal Dualshock 4 controller to you that I busted because of Wreckfest Big Rig Convoy trophy hunting rage, instead of flogging it as parts only on eBay for £10. The shell was in excellent condition, just internals dislodged and parts rattling around, I'm sure the guy who bought it was also an enthusiast and managed to fix it.
    There was a red dualshock 4 controller that my brother busted in fifa rage (a lot more common 😂) 2 years ago and had the left analogue pop out but still encased in the shell. Looking at this video I guess I was glad that all I needed to do when I opened it up was pop the analogue back in, and a bit extra improvement work reinforcing the springs on the triggers.

      Some clips are harder than others I've found. Technique also plays a part. I've broken these clips in the past. I'm sure a lot of people will break them too. The controller is still held together with screws, so it's only a minor increase in the size of the seam that is affected. Good luck.

    You could have just replaced the sensors inside the potentiometers(the circular spring looking things you said not to bend) you can get. 10 pack on Amazon. Just take out the sensor springs from the ones you ordered and put them in yours. Those things are the cause of drift about 90% of the time. So it would save you the hassle of desoldering anything. The other 10% it’s the metallic connection inside the potentiometers that scrapes off from wear and the sensor spring doesn’t have a good connection. At that point you could just replace the whole potentiometer which you will have to desolder. All in all this controller could have been fixed by just replacing the sensor springs you took out.

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The metal discs are called wipers, and they usually don't go "bad", as they're metal, and not heavily spring loaded. It's usually the other part, the carbon track which erodes after extended rubbing by the metal wiper. What makes you say that is the point of failure 90% of the time? I've never seen any videos of people bending back the prongs to restore them 🤔

    • @DaFullo
      @DaFullo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RestoreTechnique Agreed, the thing that wear more are the one that soldered to the board rather than the disc itself. But I think it's possible to just replace the potentiometers itself and save time more time by just desoldering the potentiometers. And another thing that I noticed is that the clip that connects the disc and the carbon track you had for the replacement there is different from the original, so I guess it's the lower quality or fake alps one.

Fortunately I bought a second controller just in case I needed a second one. I've been using it. Now that I know what to do I can at least attempt to do a cleaning. Thank you so much! I had jittering in the vertical directions on the left stick, and wiping the contacts with isopropyl alcohol totally fixed it! Great quality video!

    Spilled a drink on my controller thanks to my dog, buttons sticking, etc, even the L1 not being picked up. Used this, controller feels even smoother than before....but the L1 seems to still not work, could be it still had some of the drink between the pad so I'll let it sit overnight and see what happens

    One of the best disassembly videos of this control on all youtube!
    Great footage, great technique and use of the right tools! I became a fan of your channel! Congratulations!

    This with other controllers helped me fix the button I needed to fix without having to buy a new controller thanks!!!!!

    Thank you!!!! I bought a new controller a month ago and it started to stick drift yesterday (I like to play FPS so the run button always gets messed up) I did exactly what you did, cleaned it and put it back together and it’s not drifting anymore!!!! It was driving me insane. Thank you!!

    I always get the analog problem on my controllers. I never knew how to fix it. I just kept buying new controllers when it was too much. I have like 5 controllers now that I’ll try to fix.

    I just got setup. My right analog used to drift to the left a little now I made it worst and it starts moving up and I can’t fix it. I should have never tried this

    Hello Restore Technique, all right with you, I hope so!
    I have two DualShock4 controls, each one has the two types of potentiometer that you demonstrate in your video. Being the first one you remove, with the yellow caps and then replace with an alps switch with the blue caps. I also realize that ALPS are firmer than yellow caps, Having said that, in your opinion which of the two models is the best, and why? Thank you very much in advance!

      Hi, thanks for your question. Unfortunately I don't have enough experience with the 2 caps to form a preference. I am not a professional PS4 repair technician, and haven't replaced many of these. Cheers :)

      @@RestoreTechnique, hello again and thanks for the reply! In the video you say that you are testing between the analog types/brands, so I would like to know, which one do you like the most? I say that about the analogs themselves and not just the caps of the potentiometers. I think the blue ones are from the ALPS brand, and the yellow ones are from the ROCKER brand.

      @@rogerdn8665 In the video I say I will experiment with different analog sticks in the future. I am yet to do that.

      Awesome, well done. I often press the PS button accidentally when fixing controllers, and my housemate is downstairs watching TV and the PS comes on all of a sudden 😆

    My controller is a different model, but taking it apart and replacing the parts were relatively similar.
    Thank you for sharing this video.

    Cool, can you do the same to a PS3 controller. I have about 8 are do of them . I have 2 the the joystick sticks can I swap the little joystick thingy from one to the other. Most of them are just some I picked up, some of the joysticks work some don't. Just asking.

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not currently have plans to repair a PS3 controller sorry, but maybe in the future.

    • @carlhelmick7711

      @@RestoreTechnique oh I'm sorry hero , but you misunderstood. I was asking if it could be done. I want to see if I can get a controller working so I can have a extra controller. I do little things like cleaning and sure. Try not to get into repairing. But might have to. As it's getting hard to find anyone to fix a ps 2/3/4 these days . Now everyone is gearing up for the ps5 . But yeah, I was just wondering if I could just swap parts from one to the other. Just asking , sorry about the . My bad for not phrasing better.

    Hi I open my and know it doesn’t want to charge what do I do?

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check if you plugged the battery back in properly. Check if you plugged the charging port back in properly. Check if you damaged the charging port ribbon cable.
      Did you cause any impact to the circuit board?

    Great video! The clips that hold the top and bottom together ended up snapping but that's what the 4 screws on the bottom are for 😂 imo theyre the least important part of the controller so I'm not too phased

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah the clips just hold the controller together a little tighter at the seams, mainly aesthetic.
