My personal theory is that after the time-skip, Isayama couldn't understand his own characters anymore. So he kept the main cast in a constant reactive state using the Yeagerists until the rumbling. Keeping his characters reactive and only giving them a finite list of choices to make was a smart way to continue the story without needing to understand the characters. But this blew up in his face when it came time for the main cast to become proactive, and he ended up completely butchering their characters. He probably had no clue how to explain why Armin and the Survey Corp didn't do jack for the past 4 years without retconning something. He should've taken time off after he time-skipped the story.
It really feels like every character after the time skip other than a few became stagnant and static, no change in character for Mikasa, Armin, survey corps members and everyone else. No character arcs anymore. just straight lines
This is how I see it as well. You're telling me the Scouts did next to nothing in solving their problem in the last four years? Just making trains and guns? So many characters became stagnant and others completely left in the dust like poor Historia.
I realized a couple of weeks ago that to start the rumbling eren needed to outsmart 3 smartest aot characters: armin, hange and zeke which means these three became dumber for the sake of the plot

Do you all remember when Mikasa was ONLY disappointed because Eren killed children? She wasn't even sad because the children died but because her lover did it. However, when the best ackerman truly condemns Eren and throws him away with a kick, she quickly tries to protect him again because he is just a child who murdered innocent people, but Armin ends up stopping Mikasa from putting her hand on Eren's head, repeating the trial scene where she gets mad at Levi for hurting her precious Eren, but now he has very solid reasons which makes things 100x worse. This time its Armin who condemns Eren's actions, but he made the mistake of defending Mikasa, he ended up being imbolized by her and one of the strongest soldiers watched him being destroyed in a fight at the hands of the man who killed her best friend and the innocent lives that she does not care. One thing I never understood is how they put Mikasa as some kind of “hero” but she still loved humanity's greatest enemy. I know Mikasa was always delusional but she's not a little girl and neither is Eren, and for Eren to like her with all this delusion and obsession doesn't make sense, he hated Krista who was a slave, what makes you think he secretly always liked Mikasa? I also don't like how she behaved with the Louise( girl that was inspired to become a soldier by her) In their last encounter Mikasa literally just took the scarf that Eren gave to the girl and turned back without saying thank you or anything. Didn't even tried to listen to her last words she was just focused on Eren and this scarf again without trying to fight with her nature or something. She came for that scarf like to regain her old addiction or something, just one more time and all that stuff. He spent the whole story painting Mikasa's feeling as being very one-sided and bordering on delusional but he made an ending that only works for people who literally think like Mikasa 😂
Your headcanon about creating a rift between Eren and Mikasa post-timeskip is peak fiction and would have added a LOT more depth to Mikasa's character. I used to like her in the early seasons but from beginning to the end, she stays the same. No dreams, no goals, no aspirations. Just Ereh. It's sad actually, she had so much potential.

I loved it when Ymir was inspired to break from the chains of love when she saw Mikasa obsessed with Eren until the day she died - very cool! Eren's pathetic scene really snapped me out of my rose-tinted view of the final, especially after finding your channel and your last video, so thank you for that!

There are people who are so convinced of the typical *SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN IS A MASTERPIECE, IT IS NOT LIKE MOST SHONEN, MIKASA IS SO COOL, HERE WE HAVE A STRONG, STOIC FEMALE CHARACTER THAT KICKED BUTTS, WHO IS NOT THE TYPICAL DAMSEL IN DISTRESS LIKE MOST FEMALE CHARACTERS, RATHER IT IS SHE WHO SAVES EREN AND IT IS NOT EREN WHO SAVES HER* They are so aware of this idea that it prevents them from realizing that Mikasa at the end of the manga, at the end of Shingeki no Kyojin ended up being just as poorly written as any heroine of a generic shonen. They focus so much on the fact that Mikasa kicks ass and is *cool* that they completely overlook the fact that she was Eren's slave all along, Just like Ymir goes to King Fritz's slave. They focus so much on how great Mikasa is that they overlook the fact that she was a one-dimensional female protagonist, Without any kind of character development who was always in love with Eren despite how badly he treated her, Just like the situation of Ymir and King Fritz, And the most serious thing is that the manipulated use this similarity as legitimation of such a simplistic character: A girl who falls in love with a jerk who treats her badly no matter what he does to her. And then they tell us that we didn't understand the story. Anyway. The problem is that Mikasa never showed that she was upset with Eren even though he literally told her that he hated her, She just limited herself to crying, feeling sad, AND DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OTHER THAN KILLING KYOJIN AND BEING STRONG AND POWERFUL. Mikasa is a one-dimensional character with no character development, no nuances, who is only loved for being strong, powerful, and "independent", But she was never independent enough to be upset with Eren for everything he did to her through all the Manga, Or to question her love for Eren when she saw him killing women and children in Māre. Or consider another personal goal besides "protecting Eren because he saved me from kidnappers, He told me that I should fight (Tatakae), and giving me a scarf", Or SIMPLY confess her love to him and ask Eren to marry her, and live together, With her doing that she already became a deeper character. It honestly hurts to see such an incredible series turn out like this.. A series about Freedom turned into a very badly written fanfiction about Love in mere seconds....( But ngl Your headcanon was way better than what we actually got.) The fact that Isayama threw a well developed/believable relationship "Erehisu" and made EM the center of the story in the very last minute when the entirety of Season 3 and Flashbacks scenes from S4 (even more specifically shown in the manga) was hinting that Eren and Historia are gonna be the end game and will be putting an end to the Cycle Of Children Carring The Sins Of Their Parents/ Children In The Forest Theme.. which was kicked out of the story for no fucking reason after becoming a huge part of the story....not to mention that the cave scene effected Eren so much that he uses the same speech that Historia gave him while he's at his lowest point in life to Ymir in Paths when HE FREED HER.. Eren thinking about Historia and her asking him about what he thought about her getting pregnant while Zeke is telling him that Mikasa likes him , Eren in Liberio when he was conversing with Falco shows he associates romantic love with wanting to protect a girl from becoming a titan, while he did exactly the same with Historia time and time again.. Eren standing outside the barn while Historia talks to Farmer-kun, Historia lying about her Pregnancy date to Levi and the baby being born exactly at the same day as The Rumbling began wasn't all just a coincidence as some "People" might wanna believe...you can clearly see the ANR ending approaching from a mile away... I wonder what possessed him to do so.. or Did he accidentally build a "well development/believable relationship" in AOT and said nah can't have "Developments" lets scrap that and put some random bullshit in the story.. LOL the collar on Dogkasa and Eren's derp face just kills me. Eren's been mostly about freedom. Less then 10% of the manga was him being all "Friendship!!" Yeah, Mikasa's a one-trick pony. It's a shame her development went right out the window within the FIFTH episode of the FIRST season. Your HC would have helped her a HUGE amount. Ymir? Good lord. She never loved her abuser. Stockholm syndrome is not a valid excuse, because there would have been a CONNECTION, but we never saw anything like that. Romance shouldn't have been in AoT.
i cant believe one episode single handedly fucked all of attack on titans themes and characters. the most baffaling argument of all is that eren just gives a fuck about his freinds and not the island. His freinds are his priority. Growing up it is emphasized that eren greatly idolizes and looks up to the survey corps. even at a young age he is mature to know and tells his mom n dad that "if noone would join survey corps the soilders deaths will be meaning less" and wants to be one strongly . Erwins speech during his last moment tells what it means of to be in the survey corps "Our comerades deaths has meaning because we refuse to forget them and that their sacrifices gives meaning to their lives and we die trusting the living who follow to find meaning in our lives, my soilders rage my soilders scream my soilders tatkae!!!" Eren can maybe live out his 4 years peacefully but he continues to fight because everyones sacrifice will be meaningless. (and also his freinds lives offcourse) Now this masterpeice of a scene means nothing because eren is afraid to die and wants to fuck his cousin. Crap writing 101
The main problem with Annie is that there’s so little time to explore her character. She’s just been gone for too long and there’s only like 12 episodes left that don’t have room to properly resolve her. Annie should have come back after Armin got the Colossal Titan, as the very last scene of season 3. Maybe he touches the crystal and she comes out because she sees Bertholdt. I don’t know what she’d do from there (the Warriors would be too OP if she rejoined them, the Scouts would be too OP if she switched sides, maybe she somehow becomes a neutral party until the Rumbling), but at least that would give her some interaction with other characters.
Or just keep her in the crystal and add a few chapters of her thoughts and feelings, explore her guilt or lack of it and remove the shitty humor and she might have been a great character

I'm not a hardcore shipper, personally I just do that for fun and I tend to stick to the canonical ships, but Eremika is by far the most poorly developed (if we can even call it developed at all), I shipped them in the first two seasons, they didn't have any development, but I had hope this would change, and when the scarf scene happened i though "that's it, that's the kick this relationship needs to finally develop" but then Miksa tried to kiss Eren, and he just gives his back to her like "nah, I prefer to punch a titan with my bare hands" (and I can see now that even if he kissed her it would be really strange, like Hannes just died in front of then 2 minutes ago) and they never talk about this again, like, never. When Historia revealed herself and started to get developed, I really didn't put any expectations in it, I thought she would be at most just a cute female character that people would ship with Eren just for fun. But then the pregnancy subplot started, and all the hints pointed at Eren possibly being the father. In the end, Isayama threw that development out the window just to put Historia with a nameless and faceless NPC which she doesn't exchange more than two words (seriously, do we see these two even talk to each other?). And the pregnancy subplot didn't even go anywhere, what's the point? Why she got pregnant if she was protected by the spinal-wine plan? Why this baby has so much focus? Seriously, if you take the pregnancy subplot away absolutely nothing about the ending or even the entire story would change, I challenge anyone to prove me wrong

And at 1:34-4:05 I never thought of this before, but yeah, they really are missing the _tension!_ Mikasa crying in that scene always felt a bit ooc to me seeing how when Eren says something similar in S1 about how he's different from them and isn't a parasite, Mikasa actually gets mad and punches him there. This would've been more in character with the Mikasa from season 1 to actually fight Eren. It's like her character died after season 1 tbh lol. Also, I really liked the Eren and the Jaegerists walking animation at 2:04. It looks so badass!

I want to drop after timeskip/after 130 chapter, but I fell in love with Attack on Titan after chapter 131 came out. I didn't even pay attention to the Cringevengers, I liked the Eren/Ramsi and Rambling scene the most. I still think this is a best chapter of Attack on Titan, even though it's the beginning of the end of a great piece.😢😢😢😢

Armin and Annies relationship had potential, but it should have been one-sided (since Yams is obsessed with one-sided relationships anyways) on Annies part. Season 1 already foreshadowed Annie having a soft spot for, if not feelings for Armin, but him reciprocating makes a total of 0 sense. I guess you can look at it as Armin viewing himself as just as bad as her or whatever Yams tried to force down my throat but Annie needed to suffer at least a little bit like damn. Her father shouldve been killed and her feelings for Armin shouldve been completely one-sided. Instead, she gets to have the man she loves, achieves her goal (being with her father) AND gets to roundhouse kick a few eldians just like the good old days!
I remember reading the last chapters, romance never even crossed my mind as a motive for anything even after we got the whole decapitated head situation. I always just assumed EH was the plan and not even in a romantic way necessarily. I figured Eren would die, and Historia's pregnancy would become relevant because in chapter 88 we learned that shifters that die without passing on powers get transferred to a random child regardless of distance. She would name this child after her best friend ymir. And they would be the one to end the curse as the vow no longer exists. I think if EM had been more properly conveyed prior like you showed, I might have been fine with it. But talking about love while killing 80% of the global population just doesn't work for me.
AoT was a story about responsibility, duty, hard decision, and sacrifice, the last S4 is filled with politics, conspiracy, backstabbing and excellent plot twists, it's really sad that the fans are consumed by romance and friendship ignoring that Erwin's sacrifice was in vain and they are coping with this, EH has some buildup and it adds an excellent plot twist and a motivation behind Eren why he's fighting his friends as it was teased multiple times as Eren loves his family and lover more than his friends, but Isayama slapped us with a predictable outcome, the last thing Isayama can do is to release a video game based on branched storytelling, where fans can craft the Eren they want, his fate his romance partner his ending
@@CKER-cl8in didn't watch the Witcher games but it should be more like Cyberpunk 2077 or telltale games where basically the player crafts the story that he wants, we should be able to define Eren's personality, his fate, his romantic partner and the overall structure of the ending, maybe even switch between different characters to end the story with, just like justice league 2 you had the option to end the story as superman or as batman I don't find any other solution to fix the ending after the death of AoE while ending all the conflicts, shipwars and controversy that surrounds the ending. Luckily S4 hasn't been adapted into video game just yet.
I agree with this so much. I don't understand EreMika at all nor do I understand how Ymir is free after Mikasa kills Eren then kisses his decapitated head. It never sat right with me. Sure Mikasa is a strong female character. But what else is there to her character if you take away Eren? I think most people would say she's strong and powerful, and that she cares for her friends. But that's about it. Thank God someone has the same opinion as me. Especially the thing about not liking the ending, but still loving attack on titan and Isayama. As for Levi, I assume he didn't care about Annie, because he just wanted to do what he promised Erwin. Kill the beast titan. I think that at this point that was all he wanted to do, and that it was the only thing keeping him going and the reason he was still fighting, even after he got severely injured. But I hate how everyone just accepted Annie. How did Armin even fall in love with her? I never understood that. How did Annie fall in love with Armin? There was no buildup at all. Did anyone even ship Annie and Armin before Annie came out of her crystal? I especially hate how Hange of all people accepted Annie as well. I understand that they needed all the help they could get to stop the rumbling, but when the alliance was bidding Annie goodbye, Hange smiled and waved?? No f way Mikasa's a strong female character. Physically definitely, but mentally she's just a slave as Ymir Levi promised to kill annie/make her suffer in the fta but he kinda forgot
The worst part of it all: Eren and Mikasa never talk to each other. An honest, deep and sincere conversation, about themselves. Every time they interact is because there is something urgent and bigger happening, or Armin is in the way. And of course Eren is always more engaged with Armin, since he respects his intelligence. I am used to visual novels when you have hours and hours of dialogue and interaction between the MC and heroine. Where you can clearly see the relationship building up from scratch, their views about each other evolving in a natural and organic way. So is beyond me why people can accept Eremika as a good romance that is also the key to solve the entire plot.

Isayama had a strong female heroine that could fight and he still managed to make her worst than previous shonen heroines because he made Mikasa worst in ever other way. She barely talks, her crush isnt even that nice to her half the time, she's delusional about him, she's adopted into his family too. She has no motivation but him, her goals in life dont match his but theyre secondary becaause shell follow him anyway. She's usually passive and reactionary deapite being the strongest of her generation. Only being active when it comes to her crush. She's barely allowed to have interactions, thoughts and feelings outside her crush. And she's way more obsessed and dependant on her crush than any heroine before (unless we count actual yanderes).

What I hate about the romances shoehorned at the end, is that Armin and Annie's values completely contrast each other's. Annie doesn't regrets her actions at all, whilst Armin does regret being a mass murderer and the show itself states he wouldn't have breached the wall had he been in Annie, Reiner and Berthold's position. Armin should have grown out of his crush on Annie after witnessing her be so cruel. that makes more sense for his moral compass. He cut his friendship with Eren because of Eren becoming a genocidal maniac! How come he still pants after Annie?!
It couldn't have been said better. The only satisfying scene in the epilogue is when Annie confronts Armin about the Survey Corps with her Military Police (which she didn't even serve in, per se) and Armin pointedly ignores her and looks quite distant. I can't say what Isayama was trying to say with this, but perhaps Armin's feelings really do belong to Bertholdt, and Annie is no longer Armin's assistant after the war. Otherwise it makes no sense, because the message that people from different sides of the conflict can be together and should forgive each other is not at all appropriate here.
Back in 2019 I heard a rumor on internet that Isayama wants an ending where everyone dies .. If this is true then he should have stick to it's original plan
Saw a video on TH-cam that said, the best way to watch AoT is all the way you episode 81, then skip to episode 87, where Eren initiates the rumbling, the background ost is the same one from the scene where Eren vowed to kill all titans. The "I'll kill them all" part...and basically stop watching after that. With the knowledge that no one knows what Eren would do after that, but deluding yourself into thinking that Eren did the Rumbling all the way...

Compared to how AoT could've ended, it ended in the most generic normie friendly way. I was an anime only who managed to avoid spoilers, but when people said the ending was terrible I expected like for some crazy full out tragedy where everyone on the entire planet, Eldians and Paradis included, ended up dead, or something else so horrific that fans couldn't accept something so gruesome for the characters. Like I knew the ending would be controversial but still expected it to be controversial in AoT fashion, and it would be a cautionary tale of how mindless tribalism leads to pointless death and possibly even the end of the world. Maybe I was in denial, but I could've never anticipated it would be the case to have a nonsensical ending that failed by every account. But nope, it was bad as in just pure trash bad. It practically becomes a romcom with forced shipping trash rather than using any of the themes it built up. Eren implies he made his friends "HEROES" by doing what would make them all hated by both non-Eldians and the Jaegerists. Somehow the Jaegerists unrealistically don't care that they killed Eren somehow and they even negotiate peace with the Jaegerists and they live long lives in Paradis??? What??? They wouldn't be killed for treason? And the rest of the world after knowing that an Eldian killed 80% of the population, happens to not hate any of the same people that helped him? So instead of "hatred is bad, it will destroy the world!" It becomes "Lol. Learn to cut off the head of your crush so you can kiss their decapitated head because then the power of LOVE (by killing who you love) will magically make all problems disappear!" So now just as you said the themes of war, discrimination and indoctrination are just completely casted aside. Now it didn't matter that Eldians were hated or if Marley was indoctrinating their citizens into selfhate or Jaegerists turned into extremists. All of a sudden none of this matters because the point of the story is Ymir/Fritz and Mikasa/Eren, which had next to nothing to do with the actual plot beforehand. Everything else mentioned is just a backdrop for this true story of Mikasa and Eren. Such pure garbage I'm still shocked this went this way. Thanks for the video as always. Knowing there are people that see it the same way helps me keep what little sanity I can after experiencing that.

It forgets entire plotlines. Suddenly the Ackermans aren't immune to the memory wiping and Eren can just plant Mikasa memories now. Suddenly Zeke can control YMIR again when she was already not following him. So much that was a mess even overlooking the obvious.

I never understand why Yams decided to make Attack on Titan about romance as well when there was hardly any between Eren and Mikasa unless you count as one sided or Armin and Annie when she killed tons of scouts and use them as yoyo's. Then there was also freckile yritz and Historia whichh are just friends and ymir with king fritz which makes no sense at all and especially how it connect towards eren and mikasa. However, there was one romance that does makes sense and how it would fit into the themes, characters and ect and that was Eren and Historia. I mean if Yams want it to be about romance also why not have it about Eren and Historia and them breaking the cycle and ending the titan curse. It would also fit in and give more motivation on to why Eren have to do the full rumbling because he is not only trying save his people, himself, break the titan curse, free ymir but also save his wife Historia the girls he love and his child. Heck why not have ymir see eren memories about him and historia since she also curious about love as well. Why have eren show ymir about him and historia bond, maybe go on dates secrently, and such except the barn scene where him and historia were doing it. Eren winning would be fine, if only Reiner, Connie, Pieck, and Annie die. Mikasa and Armin come to understand Eren but they still cut their friendship with him. Paradis starts to collapse within itself after three years. It's the only to accept either end. There were so many ways this story could've ended.
That sequence with Armin and Annie (and floch), was hilarious. But, I have to disagree about Isayama. After seeing him do the rounds, pity-fishing in cons and gaslighting in his interviews. Contradicting his past statements, and acting like what he says now has always been the case. And after seeing his desperate revisions, in the anime ending vs. the manga ending, the guy can't even stick to his own guns. I'm sorry if my statements might seem a little harsh, but I see no reason to respect or admire Isayama, the simpering coward that he is.

5:44 Annie was I think gone mathematically I think around 82% of the story reiner was a child in season 1 when he murdered all those people and after spending time with them he realized they weren’t devils but he was too far up shits creek to stop he wanted to take Eren back without additional carnage a stark contrast to season 1 he got soft grew a heart and realized his actions were wrong leading to his hesitation even back in season 2 which makes how he’s handled in season 3 even better.. but Annie, Annie unlike Reiner commuted atrocities while laughing and smiling unlike Reiner and Bertold who grimmced when killing Marco she had no hesitation she should’ve died, but they let her live because uhhh we need a female titan who by the way is just Eren but weaker by the end of the show once he’s more experienced. Even her Titan lacks any sort of unique advantage or meaning she’s just there to be a thorn in the story

I think the story is very clear when showing their reasoning & internal struggles I think, I don't think there's any room for misunderstanding unless you go into the show with preconceived notions from the media and turn a blind eye, but at the same time there are also topic that encourages debate & analysis because fandom stuff is fun, i like to see them. But there is no real excuse for saying a character is trash because one didn't bother to understand them.

I agree. Erehisu might be better EM but Eren and Historias relationship isn't enough to be romantic. Yams should've finished the Chapter 130 conversation with Eren rejecting the idea of having a baby with Historia so Erehisu shippers can shutup and ship wars would tone down. Yes his chemistry with Armin and Reiner seemed more romantic, but Eren isn't gay or probably not bisexual. He's better off being aromantic. Historia and Mikasa deserves better love interests and a character.

I think it would be better if: Annie had her own arc focused on redemption. The ODA did help focus on her viewpoints but we still needed more time for her to cook in the oven. It's fine for her and Armin to be in a relationship, but it needs to be naturally formed rather than thrown into the story. Your points about Mikasa and Eren, plus more. I would love to see more moments with Eren struggling against his destined path to kill a huge chunk of humanity, especially while he is under the founder form. Imagine that giant head showing some minor change of facial features. Maybe showing the inside of the mouth to foreshadow Eren's very weak point as well as show weakness despite his strong goals. Could focus a bit on his mental struggles and what he might be going through, each second being years worth of a tick of time as he processes every lifetime full of thoughts and fears, regrets even as flashes of his dead mother, th 7:20 e break up with Mikasa, what he has said to Reiner and Mikasa, even good memories, the trauma of each tick towards his goal pushed... All for what? An enviable. Thanks for showing more of your perspective man. I agree still with your viewpoints, considering that there were plenty of elements that could have been worked on to improve the ending. Always the journey, not the destination, that makes a story great, but that goes the same for making an ending a masterpiece. You need to build up to your ending. I can enjoy the ending, although I kind of have to rely on emotional pay-offs and suspending reality. Its by no means the worst, god awful thing I've seen, but it definitely doesn't sit entirely right when you sit and think on it. Like you said though, I can't not respect Isayama, the man created a ten year story that was constantly delivering top-tier storytelling every chance it got. Him fumbling on the ending is... not good, but I can still respect everything. Man does deserves some respect for dedicating like a 1/10 of his life to this story.

Amazing video I fucking died when you put Floch watching Armin and Annie. Also Hate the ending, But I won't lie, I never saw a big issue with the Annie X Armin ship in the end or most of her character in the final season, She was always stand-offish and above caring about the conflict. She was just forced into a bad situation, and had to deal with it, none of that Reiner hero-complex stuff. Her taking a liking to Armin, who not only didn't really villainise her but supposedly talked to her all this time, makes sense to me. What did bother me tho was the fact that much like Zeke she clearly took some pleasure in killing people. With Zeke, it sort of makes sense, he hates Eldian life, but for Annie it's never even brought up again

Chronologically before the female titan arc there are the scene with marco's death and lost girls events where annie is humanized and is shown to be sympathetic towards paradisians, feeling regret for having to kill the islanders but right after the ova she turns into a psychopath for no reason and murders everyone indiscriminately

One scene that is constantly used as evidence is the s2 scarf scene. When mikasa speaks to eren you can tell that her words are ment to be romantic. Even her body language holds romantic implications, from her blushing to her even going in for a kiss. Eren’s words on the other hand were not romantic and if they were wouldn’t he have been blushing?Em’s claim that erens words were romantic.. so if erens words were supposed to romantic and hold romantic implications… wouldn’t he have been blushing? This ship is also questionably incestuous considering the fact that mikasa is basically his adoptive sister.

That is one scene of one small side event that you're using to make their entire character. That's not building character relationships at all. If you want to see character relationships progressing realistically and properly look to Guts and Casca in Berserk

Hey, if you want to watch another alternative ending, search for Operation Usurper. Those guys haven't created an extremely different ending but have added a few manga pages of their own, which makes up for a lot of plot holes. Their manga is not completed yet, but it sure is worth it to read.

My personal theory is that after the time-skip, Isayama couldn't understand his own characters anymore. So he kept the main cast in a constant reactive state using the Yeagerists until the rumbling. Keeping his characters reactive and only giving them a finite list of choices to make was a smart way to continue the story without needing to understand the characters. But this blew up in his face when it came time for the main cast to become proactive, and he ended up completely butchering their characters.
He probably had no clue how to explain why Armin and the Survey Corp didn't do jack for the past 4 years without retconning something. He should've taken time off after he time-skipped the story.
It really feels like every character after the time skip other than a few became stagnant and static, no change in character for Mikasa, Armin, survey corps members and everyone else. No character arcs anymore. just straight lines
This is how I see it as well. You're telling me the Scouts did next to nothing in solving their problem in the last four years? Just making trains and guns? So many characters became stagnant and others completely left in the dust like poor Historia.
I realized a couple of weeks ago that to start the rumbling eren needed to outsmart 3 smartest aot characters: armin, hange and zeke which means these three became dumber for the sake of the plot

It feels like Yama saw the alliance as an afterthought, from dumbing down characters to crazy plot Armor to contrived death of fanfavorite because idk to more crazy plot armor. Hell, that same dead person appears in the pt 4 op (you can see the sc cape).

Do you all remember when Mikasa was ONLY disappointed because Eren killed children? She wasn't even sad because the children died but because her lover did it. However, when the best ackerman truly condemns Eren and throws him away with a kick, she quickly tries to protect him again because he is just a child who murdered innocent people, but Armin ends up stopping Mikasa from putting her hand on Eren's head, repeating the trial scene where she gets mad at Levi for hurting her precious Eren, but now he has very solid reasons which makes things 100x worse. This time its Armin who condemns Eren's actions, but he made the mistake of defending Mikasa, he ended up being imbolized by her and one of the strongest soldiers watched him being destroyed in a fight at the hands of the man who killed her best friend and the innocent lives that she does not care. One thing I never understood is how they put Mikasa as some kind of “hero” but she still loved humanity's greatest enemy. I know Mikasa was always delusional but she's not a little girl and neither is Eren, and for Eren to like her with all this delusion and obsession doesn't make sense, he hated Krista who was a slave, what makes you think he secretly always liked Mikasa? I have a lot to say but I'll end it here, btw great video as always

They are so aware of this idea that it prevents them from realizing that Mikasa at the end of the manga, at the end of Shingeki no Kyojin ended up being just as poorly written as any heroine of a generic shonen.
They focus so much on the fact that Mikasa kicks ass and is *cool* that they completely overlook the fact that she was Eren's slave all along, Just like Ymir goes to King Fritz's slave.

And then they tell us that we didn't understand the story.

The problem is that Mikasa never showed that she was upset with Eren even though he literally told her that he hated her, She just limited herself to crying, feeling sad, AND DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OTHER THAN KILLING KYOJIN AND BEING STRONG AND POWERFUL.
Mikasa is a one-dimensional character with no character development, no nuances, who is only loved for being strong, powerful, and "independent", But she was never independent enough to be upset with Eren for everything he did to her through all the Manga, Or to question her love for Eren when she saw him killing women and children in Māre. Or consider another personal goal besides "protecting Eren because he saved me from kidnappers, He told me that I should fight (Tatakae), and giving me a scarf", Or SIMPLY confess her love to him and ask Eren to marry her, and live together, With her doing that she already became a deeper character.
But she did none of that, she just showed that she is strong and is cool.

The fact that Isayama threw a well developed/believable relationship "Erehisu" and made EM the center of the story in the very last minute when the entirety of Season 3 and Flashbacks scenes from S4 (even more specifically shown in the manga) was hinting that Eren and Historia are gonna be the end game and will be putting an end to the Cycle Of Children Carring The Sins Of Their Parents/ Children In The Forest Theme.. which was kicked out of the story for no fucking reason after becoming a huge part of the story....not to mention that the cave scene effected Eren so much that he uses the same speech that Historia gave him while he's at his lowest point in life to Ymir in Paths when HE FREED HER.. Eren thinking about Historia and her asking him about what he thought about her getting pregnant while Zeke is telling him that Mikasa likes him , Eren in Liberio when he was conversing with Falco shows he associates romantic love with wanting to protect a girl from becoming a titan, while he did exactly the same with Historia time and time again.. Eren standing outside the barn while Historia talks to Farmer-kun, Historia lying about her Pregnancy date to Levi and the baby being born exactly at the same day as The Rumbling began wasn't all just a coincidence as some "People" might wanna believe...you can clearly see the ANR ending approaching from a mile away...

The main problem with Annie is that there’s so little time to explore her character. She’s just been gone for too long and there’s only like 12 episodes left that don’t have room to properly resolve her.
Annie should have come back after Armin got the Colossal Titan, as the very last scene of season 3. Maybe he touches the crystal and she comes out because she sees Bertholdt. I don’t know what she’d do from there (the Warriors would be too OP if she rejoined them, the Scouts would be too OP if she switched sides, maybe she somehow becomes a neutral party until the Rumbling), but at least that would give her some interaction with other characters.
Or just keep her in the crystal and add a few chapters of her thoughts and feelings, explore her guilt or lack of it and remove the shitty humor and she might have been a great character

I'm not a hardcore shipper, personally I just do that for fun and I tend to stick to the canonical ships, but Eremika is by far the most poorly developed (if we can even call it developed at all), I shipped them in the first two seasons, they didn't have any development, but I had hope this would change, and when the scarf scene happened i though "that's it, that's the kick this relationship needs to finally develop" but then Miksa tried to kiss Eren, and he just gives his back to her like "nah, I prefer to punch a titan with my bare hands" (and I can see now that even if he kissed her it would be really strange, like Hannes just died in front of then 2 minutes ago) and they never talk about this again, like, never.
When Historia revealed herself and started to get developed, I really didn't put any expectations in it, I thought she would be at most just a cute female character that people would ship with Eren just for fun. But then the pregnancy subplot started, and all the hints pointed at Eren possibly being the father. In the end, Isayama threw that development out the window just to put Historia with a nameless and faceless NPC which she doesn't exchange more than two words (seriously, do we see these two even talk to each other?). And the pregnancy subplot didn't even go anywhere, what's the point? Why she got pregnant if she was protected by the spinal-wine plan? Why this baby has so much focus? Seriously, if you take the pregnancy subplot away absolutely nothing about the ending or even the entire story would change, I challenge anyone to prove me wrong
Historia should have just run away as eren suggested her. It wouldn't worsen the story and at least she wouldn't have been butchered as a character

And at 1:34-4:05 I never thought of this before, but yeah, they really are missing the _tension!_ Mikasa crying in that scene always felt a bit ooc to me seeing how when Eren says something similar in S1 about how he's different from them and isn't a parasite, Mikasa actually gets mad and punches him there. This would've been more in character with the Mikasa from season 1 to actually fight Eren. It's like her character died after season 1 tbh lol. Also, I really liked the Eren and the Jaegerists walking animation at 2:04. It looks so badass!

I didn't even pay attention to the Cringevengers, I liked the Eren/Ramsi and Rambling scene the most. Armin and Annies relationship had potential, but it should have been one-sided (since Yams is obsessed with one-sided relationships anyways) on Annies part. Season 1 already foreshadowed Annie having a soft spot for, if not feelings for Armin, but him reciprocating makes a total of 0 sense. I guess you can look at it as Armin viewing himself as just as bad as her or whatever Yams tried to force down my throat but Annie needed to suffer at least a little bit like damn. Her father shouldve been killed and her feelings for Armin shouldve been completely one-sided. Instead, she gets to have the man she loves, achieves her goal (being with her father) AND gets to roundhouse kick a few eldians just like the good old days!

I remember reading the last chapters, romance never even crossed my mind as a motive for anything even after we got the whole decapitated head situation. I always just assumed EH was the plan and not even in a romantic way necessarily.
I figured Eren would die, and Historia's pregnancy would become relevant because in chapter 88 we learned that shifters that die without passing on powers get transferred to a random child regardless of distance. She would name this child after her best friend ymir. And they would be the one to end the curse as the vow no longer exists.
I think if EM had been more properly conveyed prior like you showed, I might have been fine with it. But talking about love while killing 80% of the global population just doesn't work for me.
Attack on Titan was an Eren/Zeke/Reiner story but Isayama went 180 in the end made it an Eren/Mikasa/Armin story.
Because Armin is a secondary protagonist, a deuteragonist, but Yams butchered his character. Mikasa too, but her arc went nowhere after Season 2.
AoT was a story about responsibility, duty, hard decision, and sacrifice, the last S4 is filled with politics, conspiracy, backstabbing and excellent plot twists, it's really sad that the fans are consumed by romance and friendship ignoring that Erwin's sacrifice was in vain and they are coping with this, EH has some buildup and it adds an excellent plot twist and a motivation behind Eren why he's fighting his friends as it was teased multiple times as Eren loves his family and lover more than his friends, but Isayama slapped us with a predictable outcome, the last thing Isayama can do is to release a video game based on branched storytelling, where fans can craft the Eren they want, his fate his romance partner his ending

didn't watch the Witcher games but it should be more like Cyberpunk 2077 or telltale games where basically the player crafts the story that he wants, we should be able to define Eren's personality, his fate, his romantic partner and the overall structure of the ending, maybe even switch between different characters to end the story with, just like justice league 2 you had the option to end the story as superman or as batman
I don't find any other solution to fix the ending after the death of AoE while ending all the conflicts, shipwars and controversy that surrounds the ending.

I agree with this so much. I don't understand EreMika at all nor do I understand how Ymir is free after Mikasa kills Eren then kisses his decapitated head. It never sat right with me.
Sure Mikasa is a strong female character. But what else is there to her character if you take away Eren? I think most people would say she's strong and powerful, and that she cares for her friends. But that's about it.
Thank God someone has the same opinion as me. Especially the thing about not liking the ending, but still loving attack on titan and Isayama.
As for Levi, I assume he didn't care about Annie, because he just wanted to do what he promised Erwin. Kill the beast titan. I think that at this point that was all he wanted to do, and that it was the only thing keeping him going and the reason he was still fighting, even after he got severely injured.
But I hate how everyone just accepted Annie. How did Armin even fall in love with her? I never understood that. How did Annie fall in love with Armin? There was no buildup at all. Did anyone even ship Annie and Armin before Annie came out of her crystal?
I especially hate how Hange of all people accepted Annie as well. I understand that they needed all the help they could get to stop the rumbling, but when the alliance was bidding Annie goodbye, Hange smiled and waved?? I'm sure that if it was their squad that got massacred brutally, they wouldn't react like that.

The worst part of it all: Eren and Mikasa never talk to each other. An honest, deep and sincere conversation, about themselves.
Every time they interact is because there is something urgent and bigger happening, or Armin is in the way. And of course Eren is always more engaged with Armin, since he respects his intelligence.
I am used to visual novels when you have hours and hours of dialogue and interaction between the MC and heroine. Where you can clearly see the relationship building up from scratch, their views about each other evolving in a natural and organic way.
So is beyond me why people can accept Eremika as a good romance that is also the key to solve the entire plot.

Isayama had a strong female heroine that could fight and he still managed to make her worst than previous shonen heroines because he made Mikasa worst in ever other way. She barely talks, her crush isnt even that nice to her half the time, she's delusional about him, she's adopted into his family too. She has no motivation but him, her goals in life dont match his but theyre secondary becaause shell follow him anyway. She's usually passive and reactionary deapite being the strongest of her generation. Only being active when it comes to her crush. She's barely allowed to have interactions, thoughts and feelings outside her crush. And she's way more obsessed and dependant on her crush than any heroine before (unless we count actual yanderes).

What I hate about the romances shoehorned at the end, is that Armin and Annie's values completely contrast each other's. Annie doesn't regrets her actions at all, whilst Armin does regret being a mass murderer and the show itself states he wouldn't have breached the wall had he been in Annie, Reiner and Berthold's position. Armin should have grown out of his crush on Annie after witnessing her be so cruel. that makes more sense for his moral compass. He cut his friendship with Eren because of Eren becoming a genocidal maniac! How come he still pants after Annie?!
It couldn't have been said better. The only satisfying scene in the epilogue is when Annie confronts Armin about the Survey Corps with her Military Police (which she didn't even serve in, per se) and Armin pointedly ignores her and looks quite distant. I can't say what Isayama was trying to say with this, but perhaps Armin's feelings really do belong to Bertholdt, and Annie is no longer Armin's assistant after the war. Otherwise it makes no sense, because the message that people from different sides of the conflict can be together and should forgive each other is not at all appropriate here.

Saw a video on TH-cam that said, the best way to watch AoT is all the way you episode 81, then skip to episode 87, where Eren initiates the rumbling, the background ost is the same one from the scene where Eren vowed to kill all titans. The "I'll kill them all" part...and basically stop watching after that. With the knowledge that no one knows what Eren would do after that, but deluding yourself into thinking that Eren did the Rumbling all the way...

Compared to how AoT could've ended, it ended in the most generic normie friendly way. I was an anime only who managed to avoid spoilers, but when people said the ending was terrible I expected like for some crazy full out tragedy where everyone on the entire planet, Eldians and Paradis included, ended up dead, or something else so horrific that fans couldn't accept something so gruesome for the characters. Like I knew the ending would be controversial but still expected it to be controversial in AoT fashion, and it would be a cautionary tale of how mindless tribalism leads to pointless death and possibly even the end of the world. Maybe I was in denial, but I could've never anticipated it would be the case to have a nonsensical ending that failed by every account.
But nope, it was bad as in just pure trash bad. It practically becomes a romcom with forced shipping trash rather than using any of the themes it built up. Eren implies he made his friends "HEROES" by doing what would make them all hated by both non-Eldians and the Jaegerists. Somehow the Jaegerists unrealistically don't care that they killed Eren somehow and they even negotiate peace with the Jaegerists and they live long lives in Paradis??? What??? They wouldn't be killed for treason? And the rest of the world after knowing that an Eldian killed 80% of the population, happens to not hate any of the same people that helped him? So instead of "hatred is bad, it will destroy the world!" It becomes "Lol. Learn to cut off the head of your crush so you can kiss their decapitated head because then the power of LOVE (by killing who you love) will magically make all problems disappear!"
So now just as you said the themes of war, discrimination and indoctrination are just completely casted aside. Now it didn't matter that Eldians were hated or if Marley was indoctrinating their citizens into selfhate or Jaegerists turned into extremists. All of a sudden none of this matters because the point of the story is Ymir/Fritz and Mikasa/Eren, which had next to nothing to do with the actual plot beforehand. Everything else mentioned is just a backdrop for this true story of Mikasa and Eren. Such pure garbage I'm still shocked this went this way.

It forgets entire plotlines. Suddenly the Ackermans aren't immune to the memory wiping and Eren can just plant Mikasa memories now. Suddenly Zeke can control YMIR again when she was already not following him. So much that was a mess even overlooking the obvious.

I never understand why Yams decided to make Attack on Titan about romance as well when there was hardly any between Eren and Mikasa unless you count as one sided or Armin and Annie when she killed tons of scouts and use them as yoyo's. Then there was also freckile yritz and Historia whichh are just friends and ymir with king fritz which makes no sense at all and especially how it connect towards eren and mikasa. However, there was one romance that does makes sense and how it would fit into the themes, characters and ect and that was Eren and Historia. I mean if Yams want it to be about romance also why not have it about Eren and Historia and them breaking the cycle and ending the titan curse. It would also fit in and give more motivation on to why Eren have to do the full rumbling because he is not only trying save his people, himself, break the titan curse, free ymir but also save his wife Historia the girls he love and his child. Heck why not have ymir see eren memories about him and historia since she also curious about love as well. Why have eren show ymir about him and historia bond, maybe go on dates secrently, and such except the barn scene where him and historia were doing it. Heck they could have it sorta a funny scene where ymir curious but eren prevent because of what historia and eren did togther.

Also he should've stopped at 97% or enough where there's communities not countries. Also removing the whole Ymir loving Fritz, "I don't want that"scene, and Eren killing his mom. Eren winning would be fine, if only Reiner, Connie, Pieck, and Annie die. Mikasa and Armin come to understand Eren but they still cut their friendship with him. Paradis starts to collapse within itself after three years. It's the only to accept either end. There were so many ways this story could've ended.
That sequence with Armin and Annie (and floch), was hilarious. But, I have to disagree about Isayama. After seeing him do the rounds, pity-fishing in cons and gaslighting in his interviews. Contradicting his past statements, and acting like what he says now has always been the case. And after seeing his desperate revisions, in the anime ending vs. the manga ending, the guy can't even stick to his own guns. I'm sorry if my statements might seem a little harsh, but I see no reason to respect or admire Isayama, the simpering coward that he is.

but Annie, Annie unlike Reiner commuted atrocities while laughing and smiling unlike Reiner and Bertold who grimmced when killing Marco she had no hesitation she should’ve died, but they let her live because uhhh we need a female titan who by the way is just Eren but weaker by the end of the show once he’s more experienced. No romance, only edgyness.
I agree. Erehisu might be better EM but Eren and Historias relationship isn't enough to be romantic. Yams should've finished the Chapter 130 conversation with Eren rejecting the idea of having a baby with Historia so Erehisu shippers can shutup and ship wars would tone down. Yes his chemistry with Armin and Reiner seemed more romantic, but Eren isn't gay or probably not bisexual. He's better off being aromantic. Historia and Mikasa deserves better love interests and a character.

Annie had her own arc focused on redemption. The ODA did help focus on her viewpoints but we still needed more time for her to cook in the oven. It's fine for her and Armin to be in a relationship, but it needs to be naturally formed rather than thrown into the story.
Your points about Mikasa and Eren, plus more. I would love to see more moments with Eren struggling against his destined path to kill a huge chunk of humanity, especially while he is under the founder form. Imagine that giant head showing some minor change of facial features. Maybe showing the inside of the mouth to foreshadow Eren's very weak point as well as show weakness despite his strong goals. Could focus a bit on his mental struggles and what he might be going through, each second being years worth of a tick of time as he processes every lifetime full of thoughts and fears, regrets even as flashes of his dead mother, th 7:20 e break up with Mikasa, what he has said to Reiner and Mikasa, even good memories, the trauma of each tick towards his goal pushed... All for what? An enviable.

I can enjoy the ending, although I kind of have to rely on emotional pay-offs and suspending reality. Its by no means the worst, god awful thing I've seen, but it definitely doesn't sit entirely right when you sit and think on it. Like you said though, I can't not respect Isayama, the man created a ten year story that was constantly delivering top-tier storytelling every chance it got. Him fumbling on the ending is... not good, but I can still respect everything. Man does deserves some respect for dedicating like a 1/10 of his life to this story.

I never saw a big issue with the Annie X Armin ship in the end or most of her character in the final season,
She was always stand-offish and above caring about the conflict. She was just forced into a bad situation, and had to deal with it, none of that Reiner hero-complex stuff.
Her taking a liking to Armin, who not only didn't really villainise her but supposedly talked to her all this time, makes sense to me.
What did bother me tho was the fact that much like Zeke she clearly took some pleasure in killing people. With Zeke, it sort of makes sense, he hates Eldian life, but for Annie it's never even brought up again
Fair point about Annie being a psycho who doesn't care about her past crimes, I just find it weird that the anime expects me to like a scene where said psycho is blushing or making jokes
It's a cool concept for a character ngl, a psycho who doesn't care about her past, only the story doesn't treat her as a psycho, it treats her as a hero character
if it did treat her like a psycho we would get that exciting Levi Annie confrontation with sassy dialogue and high tensions, we wouldn't be watching her blush or make jokes. this is a story about war crimes, a war criminal blushing in love sticks out like a thore thumb as a contradiction
Annie was never punished for her actions but rather rewarded for them
Yeah, she was forced to continue the mission but no one asked her to spin one of the sc soldiers like a yo-yo and smile after killing the scouts
It just doesn't make sense. Chronologically before the female titan arc there are the scene with marco's death and lost girls events where annie is humanized and is shown to be sympathetic towards paradisians, feeling regret for having to kill the islanders but right after the ova she turns into a psychopath for no reason and murders everyone indiscriminately
@@revvin7624 For sure I agree. I felt satisfied enough with Mikasa's confrontation at the campfire, but there's definitely a lot left under developed.
As I said one of my personal big gripes is how accommodating Annie becomes of Mikasa's BS in the finale.
Personally I just head cannon it as her knowing Mikasa's could sabotage the mission and sending her after Armin, not some Last minute girl's girl friendship
I agree with some of that bro but I can’t get past the her taking a liking thing. Like sorry not sorry that’s like looking at it through an eye of needle level for it to make sense. Plus the whole thing is forced asf from both perspectives. why would armin like the person who had a hand in getting his grandpa killed and why would Annie like the person who essentially led her into a trap which stopped her from getting back to her father for 4 years? One scene that is constantly used as evidence is the s2 scarf scene. When mikasa speaks to eren you can tell that her words are ment to be romantic. Even her body language holds romantic implications, from her blushing to her even going in for a kiss. Eren’s words on the other hand were not romantic and if they were wouldn’t he have been blushing?Em’s claim that erens words were romantic.. so if erens words were supposed to romantic and hold romantic implications… wouldn’t he have been blushing? This ship is also questionably incestuous considering the fact that mikasa is basically his adoptive sister.
Blushing or not I thought this scene would be built on and mentioned to continue building their dynamic.

@@revvin7624 I definitely do think the point of the scene was to build up their dynamic and I personally think it did somewhat good on that, after that scene as far as I remember eren is much more nicer to her. Still this did not prepare me for the 139 dumpster fire.
That is one scene of one small side event that you're using to make their entire character. That's not building character relationships at all. If you want to see character relationships progressing realistically and properly look to Guts and Casca in Berserk

@@dolly8797 People conflate a single scene where 2 characters interact as the basis of their entire character and personality. In this case, the scarf scene is used by people defending to romance that that one scene defines their entire characters and relationship. That has no depth or buildup

They released a trailer it's coming next fall so arround october if all goes well
Hey, if you want to watch another alternative ending, search for Operation Usurper. Those guys haven't created an extremely different ending but have added a few manga pages of their own, which makes up for a lot of plot holes. Their manga is not completed yet, but it sure is worth it to read.
