    We also have chicken Gyros , beside pork Gyros. One more fact .
    In your Pita with pork Gyros stamples are : tomatoes , fries , onions , Tzatziki
    In your Pita with chicken Gyros usualy it is served with : tomatoes , fries , Yogurt or yellow sauce , Lettuce or very thin sliced cabbage and carrot salad ( it is rare but it happens ) .

    the last time i had a gyro was when i visited family in germany a quarter century ago, and tzatziki sauce, so easy to make, and goes well even with salad and even on burgers and bbq

    Greek is not an easy language and my husband being Dutch still makes me laugh with his pronunciations. Thank you 🙏 for this video you did a fantastic job 👍 I really appreciate it 😍 and my mum and I were arguing over Christmas 🎄 as I put lemon juice in my tzatziki and she insists it’s vinegar 😂 everyone has their own variation so as long as it’s tasty : who cares? I’ve been known to fuck up meals and leaving guests thinking I am the worst cook!

    I'm a Muslim, usually I find it hard to resist bacon. but I never wanted so badly to eat pork till I saw this video.

      actually, beef 10 times more delicious than pork. Pork is cheap, that's all. All quality restaurants in Europa and USA go with Beef instead of pork. For me Beef > Lamb > Chicken > Fish > broccoli > Pork

    I don't see if anyone has commented on that but u should try to freeze for a couple of hours your neck or shoulder before slicing it so you can have finer and easier cuts.... Anyways great job as always!!

      @@An0th3rOn3 , ronnin2011 is talking about freezing the meat before slicing not freezing it after you season it and stack it. They usually trim the Gyro after its stacked to get rid of any loose hanging pieces.

    In Australia gyros is mainly lamb, sometimes a combo of beef n lamb, plenty of lemon, garlic and pepper to season, tzatziki here has mint n garlic in it also, still looks bloody yummy tho😄

      Greek gyros is pork or chicken but I'd be curious to try lamb, in fact I'm having lamb tomorrow, that's in the oven though :)

      Not just there, everywhere. Including the mint.
      He made a nice pork roast sandwich on a pitas pocket, but it stops there. With the exception of some spice, the only thing Gyro on this sandwich is the sauce, sort of. LOL
      Call it "Gyro inspired" but that's it.

    Just saying. My Dutch would probably be terrible.
    Quick tip, say it like you were saying the word Year, and then add the O at the end.

    That was a nice Gyros recipe👍👍 , with an alternative way to enjoy it. Really now cabbage? cabbage in a "pita gyros"? 😂😂😂
    The clasic world winning Greek "pita gyros" is: Pita bread+gyros+sliced tomato+sliced onion+tzatziki+salt and paprica. If you want you can add some fried potatoes.🍺🍺🍺

      That's the Athens version of "apo olla" in northern Greece like Thessaloniki Katerini Veroia the "apo olla" is first pita second tzatziki the tomatoes and onions the gyros potatoes and the ketchup and mustard. No paprika in there

    Thank you for a very interesting flavorful video. I have a number of Greek restaurants in my area however none of them have ever made my food look as mouth-watering as your food did today. I do not have a big skewer or pit to grill my chicken or pork but I gather maybe home Depot or one of these kitchen depots I might be able to purchase one. I'd like to feed approximately 45 people with the meat and so I guess I'm going to have to get my hands on one

    Hey Roel, that's almost the same recipe, I use for my Tsatziki. I recommend to add 5+ cloves of garlic however!

    I am Greek, is one of the very few time that i see a video on youtube with γυρος that has actual meat and not minced lamb... i dont know what kind of marketing or advertising has been done but we dont eat minced meat in our γυρος here :P its a great take on gyros Pitmaster X... next time try to put some ultra thin slices of pork belly (the meat-y part) and if you can find some beef fat or even lamb fresh suet to give extra and natural fatty-ness... 10 out of 10 from a Greek... well done :)

    You can add a bit of finely chopped dill to the tzatziki for some extra flavor.
    If you want you can also make the gyro with chicken thighs and chicken breast as well. The breasts and thighs need to be pounded out thin and spiced and layered just like the Gyro.

    Pointers coming from a professional gyros tester. You should drain the cucumber cause the tzatziki will get watery and runny, add vinegar instead of lemon. In the end, slice some onion rings inside the pita bread. Gyros doesnt look any different so well done doing your research. Anyways, tasty video as always.

      ive personally never seen anyone say add vinegar instead of lemon but i can see them doing a similar thing apart from removing the lemon and just adding a sourness or tanginess

    How long did you cook it for and at what heat before putting the back burner on? if you don’t eat it all at once would you just heat it, cut a bit off, heat it, cut a bit off and so on and so on then maybe freeze it?

    Every time he says Ggggyros with that heavy "G" in front, a little bit of me dies inside. Just a tip, it may be written like that, cause those letters are the "equivalent" of the ones in the greek word, but if you want to pronounce it correctly, try "jeeros" with a soft and not grunty j.
    Edit: Now that I've seen the whole video I can say this is the best try I have seen any non-greek youtuber, tv chef or restaurant has ever attempted in making gyros. Good stuff.

      @@kostis2004 I think he was thinking of kebab, not gyros exactly, in which case he's right, cuz it's normally made from veal or lamb meat. But "gyros" is the version where you can use pork as well, and the sauce changes a little bit too.

      @@TheCalvinator999 I lived in Greece for more than 20 years, I have been to almost every city in Greece and I have seen lamb gyros maybe twice in my life, while pork or chicken gyros is 99.9% in every corner. If you are talking about kebab meat or anything similar that comes from eastern cuisines, where they mostly cant eat pork, sure, but in greece, gyros is made from pork, not lamb.

      completely agree with the pronouncation of gyros, really annoyed me. Could have been pronounced as "yeros" would have sounded better. Other than that personally i always squeeze the juice of the cucumbers, never tasted good for me and add a drop of vinger.

      Yep, I got a rotisserie attachment for my weber kettle and won't use my gas one at all. Sure, I can understand why people use gas for the convenience, but I need that flavor that only charcoal (with wood chunks) can only give.

    When you grill it on indirect heat first, are you aiming to cook it all through? If yes, how long would it approx take to cook it all through? If no, how long would you let it cook indirect before turning on the backburner and slicing down the crispy bits?

      Lamb isn’t exactly gyros. I have only seen lamb done by Turkish people in Greece. And it’s called Döner

    No matter how you pronounce it, with a J or a G. Doesn't matter who came up with it first, The Turks or the Greeks.
    Mint or no mint in the Tsasiki. In the end only one thing matters. Does Denise thinks it's yummy. :-)

      Gyros is only pork in Greece. However there is also a chicken gyros available mainly for people who want to avoid pork.

      Astoria Queens is/ was the biggest Greek community in America, and Gyros are pork throughout that neighborhood but sometime in the 70s every diner owned by Greeks started serving gyro made from a beef/ lamb mixture in Syrian style pocket pitas they sold like crazy and that's what most non- Greeks think a gyro is

      Готвене с Георги in greece the g is pronounced often as a y so a lot of people pronounce it as yeeros or yeero which is the proper way but it can be pronounced properly with a h as it’s acc a really soft g to say the word and since a lot of English people struggle with that , it often comes out as a h sound
