Dragonboat to me is the ultimate sport. Despite my busy schedule at work I see to it that I make plans to still paddle over the weekend. I even deprioritized my other engagements like hiking for me to be able to train for Dragonboat, the dedication!!! Ever since I got into this sport I have been more mentally healthy and of course physically. It changed the way I view team sports it taught me how important it is to be super in sync with the team. I did not only make new friends but a second family. I now always look forward to the training day because I wanted to be better at it. I’ve tried several sports but I see myself doing Dragonboat until I get old. Of course thanks to this channel, I learned a lot of tips and preparations to be ready for Dragonboat. Now, every time there is a newbie in Dragonboat I connect with them by sharing this YT channel because personally it helped me. Thanks a lot!!!

Dragon boat to me is about trying something new and meeting new friends. Before I joined dragon boat, I had absolutely no friends and would always sit in the library after school on my phone because nothing interested me. I saw a flyer to join my school's dragon boat team in which I went because so many people in my school was doing it. After a year of paddling, it's safe to say that I have definitely picked up a new hobby and sport I fully enjoy. I have also gained so so so many new friends as the team has become my second family and I don't sit alone at lunch anymore.
Dragon boat to me is tied in with taking a stab at something new and meeting new companions. Before joining the dragon boat, I had no companions and would continuously be on my laptop in the library after school since nothing ever intrigued me. I spotted an advertisement on Instagram to join a high school dragon boat group which I went to because many of my friends were also a part of that team. Following an extended rowing time, most would agree that I have certainly gotten another side interest and game I completely appreciate. In addition, I have acquired a new community to be a part of. This leads me to where I am now as many of my current closest friends also paddle on the same boat as me.
To me, Dragonboat is about community and self improvement. I consider it as a second family. It is where we support and encourage each other to grow as better paddlers and people. Where we made countless memories that we can look back upon. Being in Dragonboat introduced me to so many amazing people who inspire me today to continue to improve on myself.
DB is forcing myself out of my comfort zone and interact with others…. Forcing my teammates to be my friends. :) Winning is always fun, and so is stuffing our face post practice or race.
Dragonboat to me is a sense of community that encourages everyone else to push themselves to their limit. It is amazing views on a lake/river but also an opportunity to build strength and fitness. The best sport in the world.
Dragonboat to me is like a second family. I would usually be lonely through out the day. I then heard an announcement at my school saying they were recruiting. So I decided to join since I was already very lonely. While I was on the team, everyone was super friendly. They gave me advice on stuff that are not even dragonboat related sometimes. That's why they to me they are like a second family.
Dragon boat to me is self improvement, but more importantly, a gathering of friends of all sorts who care more about being together than winning (winning is a plus though 😄). It's not about the end result, it's about the journey and company
How lucky was I to see a flyer in my surgeon’s office for a breast cancer survivor dragon boat team and to be able to start paddling two months after completing treatment. It’s opened up a whole new world of water sport for me and the supportive nature of all dragon boaters (and especially breast cancer teams) has been astounding.
Dragon boating to me is a gateway to better myself. This is the only sport I have and it has been helping me work on my mental health problems. In the past, I worry about what to do with my day. I go to the gym after work and it ends there. Now, I have a community, I have a Family that I look forward to seeing every training. Gym days are no longer bro splits but stamina, endurance and power building. Oh, how I love cardio now. I see swimming pools differently today. I have more reasons to be healthy and have a more meaningful life. Dragon boating, like any other team sport, is a lifestyle and career correcting activity everyone must try. It keeps you grounded and elevate cohesiveness and sychrony. Now, I cannot imagine my life journey without it.
Community and a fun competitive sport is what dragon boat means to me. It has helped me improve my social skills and learn about a new sport. Compared to other sports I’ve done, this is by far the most community building one. Everyone does their part to get to the finish lane. Encouraging each other to do their best.

When I was a kid, team sports for girls were few and selective. I love the team dynamic of working out together and socializing in tandem! I also see the older (than me) paddlers as role models of being active and disciplined indefinitely.

My local Annapolis,MD (ADBC) group has been my saving grace through all the treatments following surgery. The encouragement, guidance, camaraderie, and support all while exercising outside is so uplifting! It gets me moving, laughing, and it’s breaking up that scar tissue!! Bonus! I’m incredibly grateful for the dragon boat experience! I’m totally hooked and loving it!
I came from a physically contact sport and dragon boat offered me a place of community while giving me the intensity of a workout without the constant pain. It’s so fun!

Ever since I was a wee little lad, I have been bullied (online). My favorite game use to be CS:GO, and I would queue for competitive games daily. But, over the years like an OC that's been leaned on the wrong way, I'd flipped from loving CS:GO's competitive scene to despising it. CS:GO has a horrible competitive community filled with rage togglers, smurfs and cheaters alike. Valve anti cheat does nothing against these BLATANT cheaters. Statistically 1 in 10 cheaters are banned per Overwatch case. The CS:GO Overwatch is extremely broken, and easily abused by cheaters to falsely ban legit players while simultaneously defending the real cheaters. Valve, please fix. Because of the horrible CS:GO community, I have been driven to find another hobby. This ultimately lead me to dragon boat, after I had dropped badminton and mud wrestling. Dragon boat is a form of escapism from the sullen lands of competitive CS:GO that have been besmirched for so long. Dragon Boat pushes people to their physical and mental limits, and rewards them for it. People get stronger together, it builds camaraderie, and it provides a sense of community.
Dragon boat is my getaway! When I found out my breast cancer had spread and I'm now Stage IV, I attempted a support group. How depressing! But through it all, I found Dragon Boat.
