  • Sting plays his song "Russians" live in concert with the San Francisco Symphony before a sold-out crowd at Davies Symphony Hall on February 15, 2024. Russians appeared on Sting's debut solo album, The Dream Of The Blue Turtles (1985). Its melody is based on “Lieutenant Kije Suite” by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. This chamber version was arranged by American composer Rob Mathes, who also served as the concert's musical director and played piano and keyboards. Sting is a Grammy Award winning British singer-songwriter from Newcastle, England who was a founding member of the band The Police. This was one of only a handful of shows Sting is playing with symphony orchestras, including an upcoming show with the Philadelphia Orchestra on March 8 and 9.
    ==================
    Russians lyrics:
    In Europe and America
    There’s a growing feeling of hysteria
    Conditioned to respond to all the threats
    In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
    Mr. Khrushchev said we will bury you
    I don’t subscribe to this point of view
    It would be such an ignorant thing to do
    If the Russians love their children too
    How can I save my little boy
    From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
    There is no monopoly of common sense
    On either side of the political fence
    We share the same biology
    Regardless of ideology
    Believe me when I say to you
    I hope the Russians love their children too
    There is no historical precedent
    To put the words in the mouth of the president
    There’s no such thing as a winnable war
    It’s a lie we don’t believe anymore
    Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
    I don’t subscribe to this point of view
    Believe me when I say to you
    I hope the Russians love their children too
    We share the same biology
    Regardless of ideology
    What might save us me and you
    Is that the Russians love their children too
    Written by Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner a/k/a Sting

    As well as being an amazing singer, musician and songwriter, Sting is an incredibly intelligent thinker. His mind is always looking for more. Everyone on this planet should feel like that, regardless of their intellect or circumstances. There is so much to learn and so little time.

    Thanks to you from the Russian for posting this video, to Sting for his clear mind and warm heart, and to the wonderful orchestra that performed this score based on the music of my favorite composer Sergei Prokofiev.

    That did not sound like the Prokofiev music used in the original recording.

      @Bunny99s 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well, Prokofiev used a lot of horns and bassoons but this orchestra doesn't sound like they have many if any. It's mostly strings, violin, chello and probably some clarinet

    The irony that when they song is most relevant to the world he takes it off the set-list. - He never did so in the case of They Dance Alone in the context of Pinochet

    Who is sending their children in meatgrinder is ambiguous from my POV. Mister V.Z. or mr. Putin as Sting says at 1:16. Both I would say and all is blessed by mr. Biden.
