The Last Kingdom is probably my favourite series. All the feelings it gives you. Uhtred's story is such a tragedy. He pretty much lost everyone he loved, but despite that, he stood tall, strong and proud till the very end. Massive respect for Eivør, having a voice of an angel. And respect for Alexander Dreymon, he is truly a phenomenal actor. This show is a masterpiece. Can't wait to rewatch it.
I can’t believe how slept on this show is. It trumps Vikings in almost every sense of the category. I feel more invested in characters in TLK than I EVER did with anyone on Vikings. Heavily underrated and more historically accurate show of the two.
Season 1 and 2 were good, rest was trash. So really only season 1 and 2 of the show are underrated, the rest of it is overrated of anything. Either way fantastic soundtrack.
Man this entire show was 10/10 Oscar worthy winning epicenes.. every time Uhtred giving both an inspiring speech and heartfelt scenes honestly made me cry, such a strong character in both heart and soul as well as out in the field, to be preaching words of wisdom.. And in this final scene where he recalls all of the hardships, all of the heartfelt moments, the good, the bad, the happy the sad, through thick and thin leading up to this one final point, where what he has been fighting for has finally bore some fruit. One mans journey, traversing such hardship and adversity, having loved and lost so much along the way, to lead him to this point, so very surreal.
The ending made me so freaking emotional.. all his flashbacks, he lost so much.😭 And when Brida died I honestly fell tf apart, even after everything she’d done.. Uhtred loved her.
At the end, he only have Finan and Sithrid to witness his victory along with his children. He has lived a long life watching his friends and family killed and yet he doesn't even have athelfled to share this moment. This is truly an emotional journey for Uhtred.

A rare example where an end of series montage does not feel forced, tacked on, used as a way to facilitate an emotional payoff. It does have an emotional payoff, but it's earned and it's thematically relevant, because Uhtred's identity, and his journey to become Lord of Bebbanburg is informed by the connections he made along the way. How he influenced those people and how they influenced him in turn, so it makes sense that he thinks about them in this moment. The most important parts of this scene are the bits where we cut back to Uhtred reacting to what he and we are remembering. It wouldn't make nearly as much thematic sense otherwise, and that is a brilliant touch. And, of course, Eivor is just stellar in this melody, her body of work on this show is spectacular and she doesn't disappoint at the very end, adding so much to the scene and the moment. Because the show is so consistent in quality, every memory hits a strong emotional beat and my eyes did begin to water at several points. It also makes me want to rewatch the show curiously, which is not an intention I think was there when this scene was put together, but that is achieved quite successfully. P.S. On a personal note, the bits that get me the most are Uhtred and Gisela, Uhtred and Alfred at the end of course, and especially Uhtred and Hild (their scene in the field after Uhtred is freed from slavery is one of the best of the entire show for me).

The way this scene is written, shot and acted shows you just how much care went into this show. TLK is and forever be my favorite historical drama. It gives me chills every time I watch it over and over again. Such amazing music, such an amazing show, such amazing actors. Best show on the planet, hands down!!!!
When Alfred finally confirmed everything that Utred did for him and england and showed real respect to him.... I teared up not going to lie. Such a powerful scene. The show wasn't the same after Alfred died.
This show is very special to me. Uhtred suffers a lot of loss in his life and keeps pushing forward and I think this song from Eivor does a great job of helping us feel that pain.
Uhtred may not be a Viking by blood, but he is the best Viking character in media. He lost everything, suffered more than enyone and yet he kept fighting not to gloryfy himself but to protect the ones he cared about. He never sacrificed enyone for his own ambitions, the opposite, he sacrificed his whole life to protect his family, his friends and his people (both the Danes and the Saxons). And that's why in the end he got the happy ending that he deserved so much.
Well, the fun part is that populations from the Isles and Scandinavia have identical genetic markers. Same bloodlines. 🙂 Only some different markers from living on different lands.

There's no such thing as "Viking blood" as being a Viking was a lifestyle rather than a specific 2:49 ethnic group. They were from across Scandinavian, the Baltic area, and later on from any other areas that had substantial Viking settlements( like Ireland, England, and NW Russia). They could have been Norse,Finnic, Balto-Slavic, Celtic descent, or a variety of combinations of the aforementioned.
I agree, but i don't think netflix is all to blame. Game of Thrones and Vikings dominated the genre. The last Kingdom came a little too late, but didn't make up for some of the weaknesses that the other two series revealed. So TLK is at least on par, if not higher. In any case, an epic masterpiece that has been far too underrated.

Out of all the people I thought I'd never cry over, it just had to be Alfred. Just goes to show that you can write characters you might despise sometimes, but in the end, they turn out loveable all the same.
Brought tears to my eyes The Last Kingdom is absolutely insane. I loved every moment and it teaches you about life in a way read between the lines filled with lessons which can be applied to real life about love, hate, family, honor, duty.. a thriller
This is special, one of a kind. I can not describe the emotions we have experienced watching this masterpiece. The moment lord Uhtred recaptured Bebbanburg, we were in tears/slapping our sofa to recreate the noise of the shields.... What a moment!
This ending was so much emotional. It brings tears. Finally lord uthred claimed his birth right in the end but it costs him the most dearest ones he loved.
“The Last Kingdom” is the absolute BEST series I’ve ever watched in my 54 years. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, at this point. But it’s hard to watch something else afterwards. The acting is superb. The music stirs something in my soul. I’m always amazed when I ask people if they’ve watched it & they say, “never heard of it.” Netflix didn’t do a good job promoting it. Alexander Dreymon does such an incredible job as Uhtred. I love the books and wasn’t sure if he was a good fit, but he quickly replaced the Uhtred that I had imagined. I wish we could have had many many more seasons of it. It’s criminally underrated. 😢
One of the few shows that it doesn’t get worse with time, instead it gets better. Something a lot of great shows like GoT, Vikings etc... struggled with, like this show is genuinely my favorite show/story. Also Uthred is such a beautiful character, tragic but beautiful. The cast of this show is amazing but the WRITING is phenomenal which is why this show is amazing, the writing is always good, even in the weakest parts of the story it’s still good.
It was a great final. While watching the sea, it was very nice that Uthred remembered the most important moments of his life, the friends who fought with him and sacrificed their lives for this cause, the women he loved, and his struggle that was crowned with victory.
This show really touched deep into my heart. Love the love-hate relationship between Uhtred and Alfred. When they went against each other, you just knew that both were right.
Just finished my second watch through of this show. It’s absolutely phenomenal. I loved Vikings (and even enjoyed Vikings Valhalla and looking forward to S2) I have to say TLK is probably a step above. Vikings clearly has a bigger budget and perhaps LOOKS a little better as a result, but TLK nails the important bits: story, characters, pacing, setting, music, nails the ending, everything. Vikings was amazing but suffered greatly after Ragnar’s death, however TLK was a show that got better and better and better every single season without a doubt.
So agree. Last Kingdom is so well constructed. Superb screenplay and excellent atmospheric soundtrack by this talented artist. It's a MUST to watch at least twice through!!
The Last Kingdom, is one of the great series of modern times, offering a profound reminder of our collective history. It illustrates the lengths to which people went to create nations and empires, putting modern life into perspective. Reflecting on my British and Eurasian roots, I see a common thread. Among the Eurasians, we had the Seljuks with Tughril Bey and Alp Arslan, Amir Temur, and the Ottoman Empire. In Britain, there were also many great heroes. History is filled with flawed characters and complex heroes like Uhtred. I've watched the series three or four times now, and it always provides new perspectives. Long live the king...
I must say it once and i'll write it here. I started " The Last Kingdom" waiting between 2 seasons of viking since the subjects are similar . What finally happened is that i falled in love with Uthred, Alfred and many of characters of the series. The subjects are deep and emotions so present. ( the misic helping a lot indeed ) , many years later, i regularly come back to The Last kingdom and it will stay one of my all time favorite. Easily top 3 of any series i saw. Anyone who havent seen it must make him/herself a favor and "netflix and chill" it.

i have never seen tv character as natural as uhtred....its easly to connect with such a person,we have been all uhtred in one part of our life : betrayed,lost loved ones,lost everything just to rise again to get beat up again,we gave ouselves to someones else profit and gain nothing...it was truly amazing show and Eivor with music make it masterpiece

This song haunts me in the best way possible. The full scene from the show (as I feel like this isn't quite the same scene, I've watched it so many times that I know exactly when each scene matches each note of the song 😉) is so powerful and moving and the song is definitely 95% the reason for it! Such a powerful voice Eivör has!! And this is definitely the best show I have ever watched, even surpassing Game of thrones in my opinion!
So happy I got to grow up with this show went through all of highschool with it coming across it when season 2 came out I watched all of the show in 2 days I was in love. I literally cannot watch any other Viking show.

I loved this show and wished it could have lasted forever. This show also introduced me to Eivor and John's music and nobody could have done this any better. I love Eivor's music and I had the pleasure of seeing and meeting her in Washington DC. Her voice is beautiful and magical and can't wait to hear more from her!

One of the best acted series ever, broadcast on TV. Strong made people, portrayed, with tenderness and strength. People of the bygone, age, everything, and nothing has altered.
What gives me chill watching it and makes this final scene so powerfull, is something, we rarely see in modern entertainment: Here is a man with a goal, experience victories and losses on his path. It reminds us, that everything worth fighting for, you have to invest effort (and be willing to risk something), for achieving it.
Uthred was to me like definition of strength and courage.. would need it now myself.. to carry all the pain. why often the best of us have to withstand the most difficult trials
My souls is healing here.. for over years now... Eivør is the bridge for me on earth and the world out there, magical, majestic, united... something far beyond.. The Uhtred at the end gave me hope that it is always worth fighting.. even if we lose a lot each day. We all carry a lot of pain, we all suffer and secrifice, but time is limited and we should embrace what wr have NOW. Until it is too Late. Playing the role of Uhtred is such an honor and huge responsibility, I am sure Alexander is feeling each second of Uhtred and it was really hard to finish this series, yet he played the character historically, it was EPIC. I am grateful to be able to come along to this masterpiece.
Beautiful. GOT did not bring out the emotion this series did (except for derision at the end) and I am quite sure neither will HOTD. So underrated. Evor added to everything.

Those who read the books, know that Uhtred was related to King Alfred’s wife. And by extension King Alfred. Queen Elswith, was the daughter of Uhtred’s mother’s Brother. And Aethelred from Mercia, was the son of the sibling’s other brother. Uhtred’s and Brida as teenagers lived for a time in the Hall of Aethelred’s father in Mercia, and fought for him against The Welsh. They tried to put him in the front line so he would be killed riding their house of the half-Dane Heathen from the north who brought Shane to their clan. In their Christian eyes. But Uhtred said “Nah watch this”, and slew all comers that day. Just a little info

While watching the sea, it was very nice that Uthred remembered the most important moments of his life, the friends who fought with him and sacrificed their lives for this cause, the women he loved, and his struggle that was crowned with victory.

This show really touched deep into my heart. Love the love-hate relationship between Uhtred and Alfred. When they went against each other, you just knew that both were right.

Just finished my second watch through of this show. It’s absolutely phenomenal. I loved Vikings (and even enjoyed Vikings Valhalla and looking forward to S2) I have to say TLK is probably a step above. Vikings clearly has a bigger budget and perhaps LOOKS a little better as a result, but TLK nails the important bits: story, characters, pacing, setting, music, nails the ending, everything. Vikings was amazing but suffered greatly after Ragnar’s death, however TLK was a show that got better and better and better every single season without a doubt.
TLK has a lot better storyline. I felt like Vikings ran out of story pretty fast after the death of Ranger Lodbrok.

It illustrates the lengths to which people went to create nations and empires, putting modern life into perspective. Reflecting on my British and Eurasian roots, I see a common thread.
Among the Eurasians, we had the Seljuks with Tughril Bey and Alp Arslan, Amir Temur, and the Ottoman Empire. In Britain, there were also many great heroes.
History is filled with flawed characters and complex heroes like Uhtred.
I've watched the series three or four times now, and it always provides new perspectives.

I must say it once and i'll write it here.
I started " The Last Kingdom" waiting between 2 seasons of viking since the subjects are similar . What finally happened is that i falled in love with Uthred, Alfred and many of characters of the series. The subjects are deep and emotions so present. ( the misic helping a lot indeed ) , many years later, i regularly come back to The Last kingdom and it will stay one of my all time favorite. Easily top 3 of any series i saw.
Anyone who havent seen it must make him/herself a favor and "netflix and chill" it.

This scene was so good, so bittersweet. He finally achieved his lifelong goal, is respected and honorable, but the cost was very dear.

i have never seen tv character as natural as uhtred....its easly to connect with such a person,we have been all uhtred in one part of our life : betrayed,lost loved ones,lost everything just to rise again to get beat up again,we gave ouselves to someones else profit and gain nothing...it was truly amazing show and Eivor with music make it masterpiece

This song haunts me in the best way possible. The full scene from the show (as I feel like this isn't quite the same scene, I've watched it so many times that I know exactly when each scene matches each note of the song 😉) is so powerful and moving and the song is definitely 95% the reason for it! Such a powerful voice Eivör has!! And this is definitely the best show I have ever watched, even surpassing Game of thrones in my opinion!

So happy I got to grow up with this show went through all of highschool with it coming across it when season 2 came out I watched all of the show in 2 days I was in love. I literally cannot watch any other Viking show.

I loved this show and wished it could have lasted forever. This show also introduced me to Eivor and John's music and nobody could have done this any better. I love Eivor's music and I had the pleasure of seeing and meeting her in Washington DC. Her voice is beautiful and magical and can't wait to hear more from her!

What gives me chill watching it and makes this final scene so powerfull, is something, we rarely see in modern entertainment: Here is a man with a goal, experience victories and losses on his path. It reminds us, that everything worth fighting for, you have to invest effort (and be willing to risk something), for achieving it.

The scene with Halig had me in tears...Uhtred lost so much. He earned his home 10000 times over.
One of the best TV shows ever made, and the magic that Eivør added the heart to it.
My souls is healing here.. for over years now... Eivør is the bridge for me on earth and the world out there, magical, majestic, united... something far beyond.. The Uhtred at the end gave me hope that it is always worth fighting.. even if we lose a lot each day. We all carry a lot of pain, we all suffer and secrifice, but time is limited and we should embrace what wr have NOW. Until it is too Late.
Playing the role of Uhtred is such an honor and huge responsibility, I am sure Alexander is feeling each second of Uhtred and it was really hard to finish this series, yet he played the character historically, it was EPIC. I am grateful to be able to come along to this masterpiece.

Those who read the books, know that Uhtred was related to King Alfred’s wife. And by extension King Alfred. Queen Elswith, was the daughter of Uhtred’s mother’s Brother. And Aethelred from Mercia, was the son of the sibling’s other brother. Uhtred’s and Brida as teenagers lived for a time in the Hall of Aethelred’s father in Mercia, and fought for him against The Welsh. They tried to put him in the front line so he would be killed riding their house of the half-Dane Heathen from the north who brought Shane to their clan. In their Christian eyes. But Uhtred said “Nah watch this”, and slew all comers that day. Just a little info
