      It's funny you mention that because myself and others have tried to find a way to SH FF and incorporate the 0 degree waveland in but it just doesn't seem to be a thing. It's nice Falco can at least achieve the 0 degree via the SH/FH backflip since his ECB curls up but Fox truly has the privileged life.

    B = Must perform a backwards jump (backflip)
    S = Short waveland
    X = Likely not as useful because the benefits do not make up for difficulty of execution and/or the character has better options that already exist.

    Hasn't this tech been around for a while? I know I've used this occasionally myself, not sure if the angle is 0° cause I'm playing Vanilla on a GC. The "backflip" into a waveland is particularly useful with Falcon.

    • @GalenTheWise
      @GalenTheWise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PWLs have been around for a while, yeah. I renamed it "0 degree waveland" because in order to get this particular waveland, you need to be holding only left or right. Hence why some characters can do this and why some can't. Also that the revised term accurately describes why it works.
      You can get pretty nice distance off of a regular waveland but if the character you're using has the ability to get a 0 degree waveland, it doesn't matter what angle you're holding your stick at - it isn't gonna go further than full left or right.
      You probably have gotten it a lot before or really close without knowing you were getting it. Also, the backflip is noice for this w/ Falcon because he curls up so his ECB interacts nicely with the platform which is why Falcon and Ganon have a really easy time getting this tech

    Very essential tech, not sure why it isn't more well known lol. My friend called it a -Perfect Waveland-, and I think that colloquialism might be known by many others as well, but 0 Degree Waveland is a more direct term, so I'll use both in my dictionary of smash tech whether I publish it or not. And yes, I'm trying to document every last tech in this game, and I think it would include literally everything you could possibly think of, but I'm not sure where to publish it 🤔. Was going to comment that this is just a perfect waveland, but checked the comments and see you acknowledged that already. My other thoughts though...
    I like 0 degree waveland over perfect waveland tbh, the term is less ambiguous, though I think it still needs some refining to be more intuitive.
    Was neat seeing Fox and Falco preserve the momentum into bairs, I didn't realize that could be done. Not sure what application there is outside of styling and tricking people, it seems to be highly telegraphed from the setup. I suppose it has to be an edgeguard if anything. As someone who mained ganon for a very long time, 0 degree wavelands into jabs/grabs/ftilts worked more often when doing it from the ledge than from a shorthop on stage because the ledge dash happens much faster.
    I have, more by intuition than intention, many times over the years done a 0 degree waveland while retreating with Marth if I get hit at low percents and popped up a little bit. It's not exactly something I plan for, and usually I keep getting hit instead of seeing this window, but it's a swift retreat that covers a little more distance than a battlefield platform in less a second and it's something I just do when I see it presenting itself. It seems to be more prevalent in the floaty matchups for him. I don't think this example would really be a thing at top level play because usually when they hit each other they keep hitting each other.

    • @GalenTheWise
      @GalenTheWise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, for sure I agree - 0 degree WL doesn't quite roll off the tongue as nicely as PWL but as you said, refinement.
      As far the actual tech, there's a lot of chance to see it in high level play with how Fox benefits from it. As I stated in this video, Fox doesn't need to do this same setup as Falco does so he sees way more benefit.
      Imagine getting knocked down by Fox's shine and you tech roll in or out, if Fox decides to SH out of the shine, he can cover both those options with a 0 degree WL. Super theoretical stuff but this could be applied to edgeguarding, neutral usage, tech chasing, etc.
      At the same time, since Fox doesn't need to setup the same, you wouldn't be able to really know when I'm gonna do it, right? You'd have to make a callout and that's a commitment where I as Fox could whiff punish you for that.
      Def agree that there are better options but to say you probably won't see it in high level play imo is wrong. Like, we never thought we'd see moonwalking used for edge guards like Mang0 uses them, or used for deceptive movement for baiting certain D.I., or even in neutral to throw someone off, etc. But never know until we get there (:

    • @dippn7047
      @dippn7047 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GalenTheWise i meant that high level play comment about my specific marth example heh.
      Im skeptical about your example though, without going into theory crafting, it doesn't really seem like modern top fox players have any issues tech chasing, it could work for sure and maybe there's a line where it continues a string where traditional play doesn't. I agree though without actually seeing people trying it we wouldn't know so it definitely could have its use(s).
      I will say that at the very least having another option is never a bad thing.

      Yeah, that's what I'm usually in the mindset of - nothing wrong with a plethora of mixups. My style specifically is just tons of players all meshed into one so I think that's where the thought process comes from.
      But I definitely do not disagree with you - modern Fox mains tech chase just fine and use options that are more viable and consistent. But no harm in adding more to it is the way I try to look at it.

      @@GalenTheWise yeah definitely. Falcon can do it quite easily from a fastfalled dj. Sometimes fastfalling increases the frame window for success in this tech. Similar to the backjump thing.

    • @GalenTheWise

      Well since you're the first person to mention it, I didn't know. Nobody has either for the past year or more plus I've been using it lmao. Also I feel like 0 degree waveland is a better name tbh anyways.

    • @GalenTheWise
      @GalenTheWise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shit if that urks you, then tell me why they call Falco soft nair for edge guarding the Ginger nair when Zhu was the one who started that trend? People will forget tech, rediscover it, then rename it or they'll popularize it (even if they didn't start it) and then it just gets named after them anyways. Not like I stole tech rofl

      @@GalenTheWise th-cam.com/video/zexwVu-kh-I/w-d-xo.html
      This is hardly rediscovered tech. Any Ganon you play will do it constantly. Both Matteo and I learned this tech before we even learned how to wavedash when we started playing the game.
      Also, 0 degree waveland would imply it only works to the right. Maybe horizontal waveland would be a more accurate name.

    • @GalenTheWise
      @GalenTheWise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TurbinationE I'm aware that any Ganon/Falcon will do this but 0 degree wouldn't imply it could only be done to the right - it would imply the direction needs to be a horizontal one otherwise you wouldn't be able to get 0 degree in the first place. Because any character that has a nice curled up ECB that can get it to the right and do it to the left that I have tested.. Am I missing something here? Genuinely curious.
      Don't get me wrong, some characters cannot achieve that degree but I did mention that in this video since their ECB isn't nice to work with.

      I've seen him get pretty far WL's before out of SH FF, but I'm 95% sure he doesn't do these ones since Falco's version requires the backflip. Definitely could get good distance of a WL from a SH FF, but not as much as 0 degree WL

      @matiasmoreno3562 My b, homie. Didn't mean to make you wait this long for a reply
      Yes, this doable without a rectangle controller. All a rectangle does for this tech is make it easier to land due to the being able to get a fully horizontal input every time. You could absolutely do this on GCC.
      For the next part, yes - Samus is capable of doing it. Out of a short hop, full hop, and on plat too. Her ECB on her double jump is nice because she curls into a ball.
