    King Carol I built it, he ruled from 1866 till 1914, he was born in Germany, he fought against Ottoman Empire and he gained independence from it in 1878, he is the one who built Romania.

    *Bucharest was the first town on Earth fully street illuminated by Petroleum Lamps (1857 year) and Paris had only center of the town illuminated with Fat Whale Lamps that needed people to change the light every 3 hours and London had only main street illuminated, while the rest of the city was pitch dark at night. Ploiesti had the first petroleum refinery on Earth! Timisoara was the first town fully illuminated by Electricity on Earth! 40 years later people started to find petrol in Texas ~1900 year!*

    Probably easier to reference Castelul Peles (Peles Castle) as being in Sinaia rather than an hour from Brasov for those who want to visit it. Catch a train from Bucharest to Sinaia, about 1 hour and 30 mins and you can walk to the castle from the station. Definitely a beautiful castle and still classed as a royal residence despite housing the museum. Sadly I was there in December 2017 two days after King Mihai I passed away and the country went into mourning, they closed the castle to the public the day after I was there to get ready for one of the first funeral receptions held there. Beautiful little part of Romania, among the so many amazing beautiful places in Romania.

    7-10 minutes with the train.. In Bușteni there is also another castle named Cantacuzino. In front of that castle you can also eat / drink (order) but the beauty of it its that you also have a lovely view to the mountains (while you seat to eat or drink something) :)

    The rooms you saw in Peleș that give that oriental vibe... the reason why they were built is because the royal families from different countries visited the Romanian royal family and brought gifts. And because they came to visit, they also arranged a room themed as such in honor of their guests. Others were commissioned directly by the Romanian royal family as they just liked the style (like the wooden stair case from the grand hall or the mirror hall) It is one of the more opulent castles of Romania and it really is a beauty 😍

    That castle was given back to the old royal family after the fall of the comunists in 1989, with the condition they maintain it and keep it open as a museum, at least partially. As a fun fact - the Black Church was burned multiple times, once in the time of Vlad the Impaler in the 15th century (yes, aka Dracula) and again in 17th century when most of the town was engulfed in a fire

      @@Peregrination it was a controversial decision, which many romanians didn't agree to. The royal family had been living abroad for more then 60 years after practically abandoning the country to the nazis and the communists in the first place. They didn't even speak the language anymore, except a few phrases with a thick british accent. Truth be told, they didn't deserve it. But, considering our leadership aren't capable of of maintaining a hut for tourism, less so a castle, maybe it's for the best.

    • @Alex-gn1ws
      @Alex-gn1ws 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ionicafardefrica you are giving inaccurate information. King Michael was driven out of Romania by a Communist cue. The Royal Family did not leave the country willingly and did not abandon it to either the Nazis or the Communists. The historical facts are much more complex. And for the record I think that it's a good thing the castle was given back to the Royal Family. They were not obligated to keep it as a museum, only share maintenance costs. King Michael ordered it to remain a museum once it will be under the ownership of the Royal Family.

    • @ionicafardefrica
      @ionicafardefrica 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alex-gn1ws ,though the political circumstances were indeed complex, the result was quite simple - they left the country and abandoned it to extremists, severing all ties with the nation for more then 50 years. They lived a pampered life in exodus, while everyone suffered and bled. After the Revolution, they came back out of nowhere and were received with open arms and given back most of their former feudal lands and rights (yes they were actually offered forests, hunting domains and palaces and there was talk about political offices for king Mihai). That is outrageous, considering they even forgot the language and had no hand in the uprising. It all turned out fine in the end, simply because they chose to use common sense and refuse most of the benefits given to them by our moron politicians and kept a dignified diplomatic role, engaging in humanitarian and symbolic actions. While I can only praise their political maturity, I condemn the monarchists who would see them return to power, exactly for the reasons I mentioned above

    • @Alex-gn1ws
      @Alex-gn1ws 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ionicafardefrica let's just agree to disagree. I'm only saying this: if the Monarchy was "oh so horrible", how come today we are an independent nation, how come we have almost all our historical regions united under the same flag, how come we are part of the NATO and the EU? Look up King Michael's file from the Securitate, it has been debated publicly, look at testimonies from people who knew the King or where there in December 1947 or while the Groza government was in power). Look at the actions of King Michael and Her Majesty the Custodian of the Crown after the Revolution and I can go on like this for days. I'm just saying look, it's your choice what you do with what you will read. Everything I am talking about is public information, you just have to look for it. Never think that republics (with very few exceptions like the United States, France and Germany - which of these two still have powerful Royal Families) carry much weight to monarchs. For a monarch, the word of another monarch carries 10 fold the weight of some guy who happens to be President for a while. Look at the countries in Europe and which have the best standing and living conditions. Aside from France and Germany, the only powerful and successful republics in Europe (and maybe Switzerland which has a more unique system), all other evolved countries with high living standards are constitutional monarchies: The United Kingdom, Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Andorra, The Principalities of Monaco, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg and the Vatican.
      Look back in history (especially Romanian history, but also European) and compare things, you might start noticing some things.
      All the best!
